Nice interior even though the outside looks conspicuous

Was craving some Thai food so I tried out Thai Mekong which is within walking distance of my place in St Albert. I've seen other good reviews so I was looking forward to trying it out. We ordered 3 dishes: Tom Yum Soup, Pad Thai and Panang Curry. The food was quite tasty in general but the Tom Yum Soup was sweeter then I expected and didn't have enough coconut milk. The Pad Thai was a little disappointing because the noodles were too dark from the seasoning but my dining partner thought it was the best tasting dish. I have to say I really enjoyed the Panang Curry. The actual curry was flavorful, the vegetables still had crunch and the beef was tender. The curry didn't come with rice however so we had to order it on the side. The pricing was my biggest issue with Mekong... Everything was at least $2 more expensive then it should have been. A single serving bowl of coconut rice was $4! We each had a beer with dinner and the total bill ended up being over $60 before tip. That means that I won't be coming here as often as I would like and I think they may be turning away customers by the high price point.

We just ordered a modest meal from this establishment. $74. Meager portions. Pretty good but you will feel like you payed too much.

Love this place. A little pricy, so that limits our number of visits, but we've never had a bad meal.

It's also generally quiet enough to have a nice conversation, if you're a talker like me. The service was quick and friendly, and they were very good at reccomending dishes! We found this particularly helpful for choosing what meat/protein to put in our meals, and we all agreed that they knew what was best. As for the food, it was the most absolutely wonderful and authentic Thai I have ever had. Every dish was flavourful, fairly priced, and came in a huge portion! We have never gotten a single bad thing there (and we experiment often), and we have never left without takeout containers full to the brim. The leftovers are always amazing, too. I could go on and on about how much I love this restaurant, truly. What a lovely place to dine in St Albert that I wish I had discovered so much sooner! If you're interested in what to try, my favourites are the Pad Thai with chicken, or the Pad See Eiw with chicken or tofu. I'm not a beef lover, but they make it quite well there I will say. The curries are quite good but some of them get fairly spicy, at least for me. The peanut curry is definitely my favourite! As for appetizers, they have these excellent deep-fried crab and cream cheese dumplings that I can never get enough of! Be aware though, there are lots of peanuts used in recipes, so be careful if you have an allergy.

Tried this place twice about a month apart, the food is great but there's inconsistent portions and service can a bit slow as it's a mom & pop restaurant. Seating arrangements are ok but can definitely could use a deep clean/upgrade - old time hole in the wall look, feel & vibe. During our latest visit, the restaurant opened up a few minutes late as owners were running a bit late. Service was slower as there was only one person attending 6+ tables that came in about the same time. The food tasted great but again was inconsistent with portions & plating. We both ordered the same Pad Thai Tom yum at the same time & one plate completely was missing mushrooms & lacked bean sprouts while the other had an abundance. The rice curry dishes are good but could use a much bigger portion of rice.

New little Asian gem in Stony Plain. Family run, friendly staff, large portions, fresh food!…read more We love Thai food so we're pretty excited to find this spot on a recent trip to Stony Plain for hockey. The Spring Rolls and Chicken and vegetable stir fry were our two favourite dishes. The papaya salad was super fresh and SPICY AF (which we asked for)! We did find it to be more of an Asian inspired menu rather than a Thai spot as there were limited options / flavours (specifically looking for Thai dishes like Pad Se Ew, Sweet and Sour Stir Fry, Massaman curry, etc. ) We will most definitely hit up this spot again the next time we are in their neck of the woods to try out more of the menu. FYI to go containers are paper based and leaked by the time we got home - I'd suggest bringing Tupperware or ziploc containers if you have them available for leftovers.

I do enjoy the flavours of my most recent experience with ordering the pad Thai, this time I could taste the sweetness in it. Good flavour profile and I enjoy the tofu in it too! Feels a bit expensive for the portion size of that, where as every other thing on the menu has felt like you get more than enough for what you pay for. Overall the prices though is something you can't beat. Having a pad Thai, 2 small soups came to $36 dollars. They do offer 5% off on take out orders ONLY if you pay cash. And they offer 10% for seniors. Those are nice incentives I believe, but paying for cash while dining it does NOT get you 5% off. From my experience any time of the day you go, you'll be guaranteed a spot to sit. The chef is so friendly and always happy to see you, she is a sweetheart.

But there it was, this bright green little gem. It's not as modern as other places, but the food was fresh and topped up on the buffet + even though not as big as others, there were still a few items I hadn't seen anywhere else. Their broth was good too - we tried the satay & tom yum and both were flavourful. They've been open under the same management for 11+ years! Covid has been tough - they closed completely when dine in was shut down and are just starting to rebuild business (I don't think they do take out but I'm not 100%). It was completely dead when we were there, minus one other table - and they still kept filling the food with fresh items. They kind of fall under the radar, maybe because they're not as flashy as other places? But they are yummy with super nice people - if you're considering hotpot, it's worth checking out! A few things to note: it's one of the cheaper AYCE hotpots in the city (I think it was $26 + $2 for broth - other places are $35-40). AYCE only. No late night or lunch special, the price is the price all day. Cash or debit only.
