Very solid thai food. Have lived in SF, Chicago, Thailand...it's right on track without being out of this world. Menu isn't too creative but very solid food! Love that this is a family run business. Closed on Mondays. Kept it simple for my parents who have never had thai before. Kai Kra Pow and shrimp pad thai, crab rangoon and wonton soup for take out. Total damage was a reasonable $37 which fed all 3 of us. It might seem pricey for B-N, but worth it for some nice, fresh made to order thai food. Too bad they don't have a better location! Put this place on Veterans and it would/should be packed. The owners should think about relocating. read more

I ordered pick up from Thai House because it seems that Na Na Thai has closed? I'm pretty sure Thai House got wind of this because they raised prices...Pad See Ewe for $9.50 for the tiny portions????? Are you kidding me? Even Opart Thai in Chicago charges $7 and change for MORE food that is BETTER quality, no grease. Eeek! I was appalled. There was barely any noodles and beef in the order. You're better off purchasing the items and making it yourself for cheaper! And you apparently cannot order the small sizes for any meal or the lunch deals if you pick up, only dine in. I didn't like this place that much before, but now know not to come back. If this is how you do business, good luck! read more

In the culinary wilderness that is Central Illinois (at least as far as affordability is concerned), this is an oasis. For Bloomington, it could be five stars. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. Service is pretty good. The real star, though, is the menu. It is not just your typical Thai food. It is creative and interesting. Appetizer: Fried mussels coated in egg. I was expecting a crusty exterior, but the egg makes it a soft dough. I would still prefer it crispy, but the sauce that goes over them along with the contrast of bean sprouts was quite nice. I would probably not get them again, but they hit high on the interesting scale. Entrees: Crispy duck. The sauce hinted strongly of molasses and the duck was overdone. The skin was great though. It is really easy to overcook duck, so I didn't mind too much. Half of a duck for $15 is a good deal. I wouldn't get this again either, but the skin was great and, again, added interest. Second entree was wide rice noodles fried crispy with chicken and basil. Outstanding! This is where the high rating gets locked in. The Chow Fun noodles are actually deep fat fried so they puff up. Crispy on the outside and soft inside. The crispy exteriors on the noodles at the bottom of the bowl soak up the delicious sauce. Not sure how they thickened the sauce but the texture was awesome! The basil is deep fried too so its really aromatic and also adds texture. The dish is rich. It is delicious. We paired with with a salad of rice noodles and pork. It is essentially larb (a minced meat and lime juice dish) with noodles and greens. It's almost like Thai cerviche. It goes great with the fried noodle dish. Once is rich, the other is acidic. Just perfect. Add Sapporo beer and you have a real meal. You really have to choose your items carefully. Without the pairing between the salad and the noodles the meal would not have been as good. The other dishes would have, perhaps paired better with other items. But the quality of the dishes was good, sometimes great, and the whole experience demands repeating, for the novelty as well as the enjoyment. read more

Great, fast service on a pick-up order for a reasonable price. The food is ok, it is what is to be expected in terms of Thai food in the Midwest... (It cannot be compared to Thai food of the west or east coast where it is easier to find fresh ingredients for food) They made it easy to veganize my food - I requested no egg and they omit fish sauce upon request. I ordered tofu Pad Thai and pineapple fried rice with tofu. The Pad Thai wasn't very sour, and the noodles were skinnier than what I am used to eating. I would call the dish more of a stir fry (soy sauce based) noodle dish than Pad Thai. The fried rice on the other hand, was sour thanks to the pineapple and some tamarind in the rice. My girlfriend and I order from here religiously every weekend. We get the Pad thai & pork gyoza it is always soooo good and spicy!! They're not messing around. First time we ordered it "spicy" and that was too much. Now we get "a little bit a spicy" and "medium spicy" and it's perfect. Love that they have so many heat options. Only problem I've ever encountered is sometimes when I call to order I'll get a busy signal for long periods of time as if they only have one phone line. read more

Ok, I know I've written about Thai House before, but we went tonight for dinner that was particularly good and I wanted to give them a shout out for it. My Panang with the sweet brown curry and coconut milk was so good, and then kicked up a notch because I ordered it extra spicy... man! I ended up sniffling after each sweet and firey bite and loved it. Oh, and if you have never tried the Tom Yum Soup it is delicious. The broth is made with lemon balm and is almost puckering tart at times but you can't stop eating eat. And of course the straw mushrooms, basil and chicken finish it off for a tasty treat! We make a handful of Thai staples at home, but when getting Thai out with friends, Thai House is the place. The food is fresh and the menu is big enough to please everyone I've eaten with. I agree with another reviewer that it doesn't compare to Thai restaurants in larger cities as Thai House is Americanized Thai food, but it's still better than I expected in Central IL. Their seafood dishes are also limited, but I'd rather have that over a long list of options that have been frozen for a month. Thus, I ventured south to Thai House after a couple of recommendations. This restaurant fails due to bad placement, and that is highly unfortunate. Went here often with coworkers while working in Bloomington. Loved it. Back home I usually go to the Thai temples for the most authentic food you can get outside Thailand. This place help up to that standard. While I would say I didn't care for the size of the noodles in noodle dishes like Pad See Ew but overall flavor and everything is amazing. I really like this place. Unfortunately I don't remember what I had last time. But the waitress recommended it. I have had the Pad Thai though which is wonderful. I have also had both of the dishes with sweet potatoes and they are awesome! They also have awesome fortune cookie "cookie rolls". They are really cool, and TASTY! The food comes in large portions I also take about 1/2 home like Megan A was saying in a different review. It is a little pricier than I would normally go to but most find the prices reasonable. Pay attention to the spice level though. They will make all the dishes in any spice level you want! Dress trends are casual at lunch more more dressy at dinner. read more

The atmosphere was cool, and I felt like I was really enjoying something exclusive due to the unexpected location, but my waiter was terrible. I had to ask him multiple times if my Thai coffee had milk in it, and his mom or whoever the cook was had to come out and apologize. He wasn't helpful, and he just kept wearing this annoying grin the whole time. It felt so awkward and I felt rushed, so I wound up ordering the broccoli tofu, which was the most expensive meal in the vegetarian section, yet was nearly tasteless. It tasted like something I could have just thrown together at home. Finally, the price (34.20 something for my meal, my girlfriends meal, two appetizers and a coffee) was way more than it felt like the meal was worth. The fried tofu was really good, and I want to go back to give them a second chance/try something else, I just hope I get a different waiter next time read more

Owned by a husband and wife pair who are always present, they insure you get a great meal at a great price. You can eat in or carry out. I only wish they had delivery. I've been traveling to Bloomington-Normal for a few months now, and have had the opportunity to try lots of different restaurants. It wasn't until yesterday that I found an "asian" restaurant that I would go to if it were located in Chicago. Thai House has finally satiated my desire for quality Thai food that strives to be more than just a Midwest or Central Illinois version of (insert cuisine here). I'd probably give a 3.5 if it were an option. I used to strongly prefer Nana Thai to Thai House, but I think the difference in service gives Thai House my nod. In general the location is a bit un-inviting on the outside. While it is small and a bit crowded on the inside, it is reasonably nice there. It can be a bit congested at lunch time, and there really isn't any space if you are waiting for a table. The vegetarian area of the menu is about 8 items, but there are other dishs (curries, noodle dishes) that can be made with tofu/vegetables as well. In general the food is pretty tasty, at least compared with other Central IL options. I usually get Pad Kee Mao, Panang Curry, Pad Kra Prao, or maybe Pad Thai. All are good. The vegetarian appetizers are not as good as the entrees. read more

I tried to like this place, I really did. The decor had a lot of the trappings I've come to associate with authentic Thai places, and I could hear the staff talking in Thai in the kitchen. But it just didn't taste right. I ordered lard na moo (flat rice noodles, pan-fried, in a brown sauce with bok choi and pork) and I was thoroughly disappointed in the noodles stuck in a pile with the center completely pale--they never saw a hot surface. My spouse's pad thai was greasy and barely had any of the protein ordered. Points for being a well-liked local joint that's survived all these years, but I just can't. Great food at a great price, in a funky little building. This place has a great selection of safe and recognizable (pad thai and currys) and adventurous (can't spell 'em, not going to try!) dishes. There are stir-frys, noodle dishes, soups, and at every level of spiciness, from totally-not-spicy (and even sweet!) to screaming hot. Just be sure to ask, as it isn't always clear which will be which. The panang curry, a fresh, garlicy lemongrass hotpot, is my fave. A tip - If you like to experiment, go for whatever the special is that day. It will be something fresh amazing that you've never had before, but ask about spice level first. The only thing I am deducting a star for is that they seem to be out of things a lot - spring rolls, massamum curry, and something else on the appetizer menu the last time. I'm not as crazy about this place as other people. For the most part, I love the food. I am not Thai expert, but their food has always been pretty good for me. I give 3 stars, because the service really isn't very good. The dining room is crowded and open. The servers I have had haven't known much of anything about the food menu. Couldn't answer any questions that weren't on the menu. Also, you have to pay at the door which seems outdated and annoying, because the host is also the cashier and she or he is often absent. Thai house is good eats in Bloomtown. I've had the Panang, Tom kha, Papaya salad, carrot salad, and the pho here. They have all been fresh and well spiced. I ordered the ginger tea last time and it was amazing. Seriously, try it! The service has been mostly good. The waiters are young, but pretty eager to do a good job. If I could make a list of my top 5 favorite places in town, I think this place would make that list. I don't think I would've ever known about it if my friend had never taken me there years ago because of the location, but I'm so glad that they did. Almost every dish is flavorful. I like how they show on the menu a rating of how spicy each dish is. The service is good and friendly. The outside of the building could fool you into thinking this place is not nice, but the inside of it has a nice home-y feel to it. The dishes can be served family style, which I love, especially when I go there with a big group of friends because we can get a little taste of several dishes. I recommend the panang noodles. They're just the right amount of spicy and sweet. I also recommend the thai iced tea. It's a unique but sweet flavor that's worth a try. I also really like their fortune rolls. They don't taste like your average fortune cookie. I've actually used change to buy another one at the register because they taste so good. read more

Went here for a date night tonight, and as always the food was excellent. Had the Pad Kra Prao with ground chicken, and it was delicious while being just the right amount of spicy. Nothing short of superb! This restaurant serves delicious authentic Thai dishes I've tasted. Menu offers so much varieties ranging from the most common ones to some rare gems like Pad Pak Bung, Dry TomYum Noodles, Sukhothai style noodles and Nam Ya. Don't bother going to the other Thai place in town. Thai House is where it's at! The food is always excellent and the service is good. I always want to try something new when I go, but I can't bear to part with the pad thai! However, if you're gonna get an appetizer, order the beef sticks. You can thank me later. On a funny note, when I was there most recently I had to use the bathroom. (Keep in mind it's winter and VERY cold outside.) Got the pad thai both times I've been here, and tried a little bit of a friend's pho. Both were very good! I will say that I thought they were both a tad expensive, but were filling. First time I sat down and the waitress was very nice and knowledgeable about the spiciness levels, but the food took forever to come out (30-40 minutes). When we paid, the cashier straight up asked how much I wanted to tip, which was a bit odd. Second time I had it delivered by doordash. Food was still good but friend's pho was in separate containers which looked a little weird. Would still recommend if you like authentic Asian food and have some time to wait! read more

Quite authentic Thai restaurant in the suburbs of Bloomington, Illinois (which Qype does not seem to know as a town). The fish cakes were small and not too spicy, but that is as expected in the midwest. The sauce was clearly housemade and good. After, I had Hoi Tod, not a dish you would find in a restaurant in Thailand (rather in a foodstall) but still one of my favorites: a sort of pancake with scallions and mussels. This place was pretty good! As noted, even though it looks shady from the outside, the inside is very nice. It is in like some industrial area of the city where no one seems to work. For appetizers we had the eggrolls. They were tasty, but I was also super hungry at this point. Not mind blowing and as noted by others more of a Chinese sort of fast food eggroll. My meal was pretty good! I love green curry and/or eggplant and together is even better. I asked for spicy, but it wasn't that spicy except for like two bites. Perhaps it just wasnt mixed well. Anyway, still good! The portions were good even though I was still hungry afterwards. Its a pretty common occurence though. The service was not bad, a little smothering because there were two waiters! Presumably one was training the other, but the trainer/trainee was standing behind the guy who was actually talking smiling the entire time. Weird! I had a Phuket beer as well and they served it with a frozen mug which was a nice touch. As we do the tour around BloNo restaurants I doubt we will find anything better than this. read more

The food here is amazing... but the customer service is TERRIBLE. Head over to BonaFide Thai. Same recipes & menu but under the management of the Thai House owners daughter is what I heard. They are fantastic at BonaFide. Still amazing food, quick service, kind service, everything that the Thai house failed out. I will NEVER go to the Thai House again... here is why: Terrible customer service. The last time I went we waited 2 hours for our meal & missed our movie. I asked for a discount they told me no. The time before that I ordered satay chicken & it was not cooked threw. They said no discount on that. The time before they got my order wrong. The time before that we waited an hour for our meal. Entrance has flowering jasmine and smelled very nice. Waiter was very polite, professional, and I was seated within five minutes. I ordered krab kra pra shrimp from the lunch menu. It arrived within 7 or 8 minutes. The dish had great presentation and looked like a gourmet meal. I usually like to try different sauces, but it was so delicious I didn't want to add anything to it. Couldn't have asked for a better experience! Will definitely be back! Very pleasant staff! read more
