Let me start by saying that the pad Thai and fried rice were both good - 4 stars. It's downhill from there. Salmon poke bowl - 2 stars (possibly not our cup of tea) California roll -2 stars (odd flavor to the rice) Spicy tuna roll - 0 stars (inedible, so bad we had to throw it away. Only ate one bite) Service was slow, so we waited about 25 minutes for food that we threw away half of. What a waste of money. Do not recommend.

Combo with chicken curry and pad thai, also sticky mango rice. Amazing

Great Authetic Thai Food. If you live Thai, you need to eat here. Probably the best Thai food I've tasted on the Island of Kuaui. Great service and atmosphere There are other options here, it's like a Food court with different options.

Combination plate with jungle fried rice, spring rolls, and pad thai

We came here on a weekday and ordered one food and received a little buzzer to notify us when the food was complete. I ordered the Combination plate with jungle fried rice, spring rolls, and pad thai. We asked to add chicken to the pad Thai, which I don't think we were charged for but as you can see it is a small portion of pad Thai. I thought that this was the best Thai food we had on the island. We had also gone to another Thai place but this one just tasted much more delicious. The jungle fried rice is mixed with green curry, which was made and spiced to perfection. The pad Thai was also similarly great, we just wish there was more in it. The only complaint I have is that they ran out of egg rolls, which comes standard with this plate. The spring rolls they replaced it with were still good, but I didn't see any meat or protein in it. For $25 per combination plate, the food is definitely more on the pricier side but it was still very good and worth it.

Cool little spot with awesome Poke bowl and chicken katsu bowl!! Worth the drive and cool spot with food trucks.

The combo 2 was recommended and it was a great choice! The Thai iced tea tasted good too. Great meal to get when in the area. Unlike the food trucks around, their schedule seems to be the most consistent.

Came to this food truck for lunch. We ordered the Thai Elephant combo plate which came with pad Thai, spicy chicken coconut curry and 2 spring rolls. The curry was very flavorful and had a good amount of spice. The pad Thai was just okay, a bit bland. The service was friendly.

Food was good. Pad Thai with shrimp at 7 shrimp. Service was fast. The roosters and chickens will keep you company!

Combo - Chicken Skewer with papaya and rice.

Sooo good! We came on Wednesday hoping to try it but they were closed. Came back Thursday determined to try it and thankfully they were opened. I got the chicken skewers with papaya and rice. The papaya was so light, fresh, and delicious! Different from the typical papaya I would get in CA because there's no crab/shrimp paste. However, I was surprised at how much I liked the papaya with only the fish sauce, palm sugar, lime juice, etc The chicken was so tender and juicy as well. I finished the whole combo plate before I knew it. Would definitely come back and would totally recommend for those looking for a little thai comfort food.

I'll preface this by saying my husband is Thai, and we cook / eat a lot of Thai food at home. We really enjoyed the food at Thai Elephant! The gang gai (chicken curry) was delicious - very much like we make it at home, with a flavorful curry, kaffir lime leaves, Thai basil, soft eggplant and good cuts of tender chicken. It was served over a bed of jasmine rice. The larb was also really good! Tender ground pork cooked with shallots, galanga, and other herbs with mint, Thai basil, lime, and extra dried chili on the side. It was served with sticky rice and lettuce, perfect for eating with your hands. Our kids enjoyed the chicken skewers with a side of sticky rice. As for the commenter below who didn't like the Thai beef, she must not have ever had it before - that dish is supposed to be exactly as it is pictured - it's kind of like the Thai version of beef jerky (salty, dry, a little hard). The owners spoke Thai and were friendly and genuine. We will definitely visit again the next time we're in Hanalei!

Delicious Thai food! Enjoyed the Chicken Pad Thai, Pad Kra-Prow Beef, Garlic Pork and Garlic Chicken. Thai Iced Tea was perfect and Guava and Passion fruit juice was good too. Recommended!

Please note, this Yelp page is for the Thai Elephant food truck in the Hanalei Eats food truck area in Hanalei (https://www.yelp.com/biz/thai-elephant-hanalei-2) on the north shore. This is NOT for their second location on the south side of the island in Kalaheo (https://www.yelp.com/biz/thai-elephant-kalaheo-3) which I believe has completely different days and hours of operation. Do not confuse the two. I believe folks are posting reviews and updating the hours for the wrong locations. I have requested for the hours/days of operation on this page to be updated as I verified them yesterday. I checked with the folks working in the Hanalei food truck on the north shore, and the hours of operation are: Thu - Sun, 11am - 4pm I believe the hours for the Kalaheo food truck on south side are (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g60615-d10500475-Reviews-Thai_Elephant-Kalaheo_Kauai_Hawaii.html): Mon - Thu, 11am - 7pm Please be sure you are viewing and posting reviews for the correct location, or you will be frustrated, as many reviewers have posted, with the food truck "never being open". Now, to the food and the experience. We went at 3pm on a Friday and there was no line. We promptly ordered and were given an electronic paging unit to indicate when our order was ready. We had our food hot and made-to-order within 15 minutes. The staff was friendly and our experience was great. We ordered the vegan spring rolls. They were tasty, not greasy, but they seemed smaller "than usual" at other places, however, we did get 5 in our order instead of the listed 4. For our entrees, we ordered Pad See Ewe with tofu and Pad Thai with tofu. We thought they had nice flavor. The Pad See Ewe came with lime slices and a tasty tangy/spicy red sauce. The Pad Thai also had lime slices along with fresh bean sprouts and alfalfa sprouts. We normally get Thai food on the mainland from an Americanized Thai-Fusion restaurant, where the portions are huge and the spicing is different. Some differences are that the portions at Thai Elephant were smaller, but I believe were still appropriately sized for an entree, just not the huge portion we're used to on the mainland. The tofu was soft and mildly sauteed, and not deep fried and crispy as we've had at other places, but I liked it just the same. We also liked that the Pad Thai was not as sweet as the Americanized versions. We enjoyed the food and would eat here again. I think you just need to set your expectations so that you won't be disappointed. You are getting traditional Thai food and flavorings, not Americanized flavorings and huge Americanized portions.

Service was good, and it's located in a nice spot, but the food was pretty awful. Tempura shrimp and spring rolls tasted like frozen food tossed into a fryer. The only thing that was decent was the red curry, but it was more of a crock pot chicken curry soup. Worst meal I've had on the island by a long shot, and overpriced. They also gave us heinz sweet and sour sauce, which was strange.

Chicken pad Thai was extremely dry with zero flavor. It was like they just forgot to season or add sauce of any kind

Big Nick's was such a standout spot during our time in Kauai! I ordered the chili pepper chicken…read morebowl, which came with three pieces of juicy, flavorful chicken that had the perfect spicy kick -- not overwhelming, but definitely satisfying. It was served over a scoop of rice and made for such a filling, delicious meal. On the employee's recommendation, we also got the taro wedges, and I'm so glad we did! They were crispy and crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and yes... a little oily -- but in the best, indulgent way. The sauce that came with it (not sure what it was!) was SO good and paired perfectly with the wedges. My husband ordered the taro burger, and we both loved it -- it ended up being his favorite vegetarian meal on Kauai! Good to know: there's parking in the back, which is also where the bathrooms are located (just ask for the key). Overall, Big Nick's is a must-try for flavorful, local-style comfort food. Everything we had was delicious, and we'd absolutely come back!

Especially after the super religious chicken barrel spot ran out of chicken and ribs (but not Jesus). The outside patio is nice, with stools, and we saw a rainbow. The end. The sequel! We went back, a 2nd time. My partner's idea. It was still tasty. There are bowls instead of plates, which is less food. I should have gotten that.
