Bottom-line: super-sweet but competent Thai food. They get four stars by virtue of grading on a curve for Asian food in Utah county--where having food that's too sweet is a requirement if you want to stay in business. The rest of the story... The venue: Thai Drift offers casual dining in a double-wide strip mall venue. The place is clean, simply decorated, and not cramped. Service: The staff are pleasant and attentive. They did seem a bit over-run and made some mistakes, but we didn't feel neglected. The menu: Basic American Thai favorites. Bring on the sugar! Our experience: We ordered (fresh) spring rolls with pork with peanut sauce on the side, but that's not what we got. We got veggie spring rolls. And they mixed the peanut sauce with sweet chili sauce. Not bad. But not what my wife wanted. We also wanted to start with Tom Ka Gai, which they style as Galangal Coconut soup--it seems that's just what you call it in Orem. But we didn't start with it because they brought it last. Our main dishes were Massaman Curry and Pad Siew. They were flavorful, but too sweet and too mild. The Tom Ka was a disaster--not even a hint of galangal, kaffir lime leaf, or lemon grass. Just bland. I know it sounds like I'm trashing the place, but it's probably the best Thai food within 25 miles of my house, so, yeah, we'll be back. read more

This place is seriously the best Thai food I've ever had! The coconut soup is so delicious and comforting. The pineapple curry is my next go to. The vegetables are fresh and the sauces are perfect. I've been to several Thai restaurants and I can honestly say that Thai Drift is one of the more authentic restaurants I've been to. My first time here was in 2010. They were a lot smaller but I still remember the appetizers, curry, and mango with sweet rice being delicious. More recently, I was feeling a little home sick so I decided to take a trip to Thai drift. I ordered the Lahb and papaya salad. The Lahb had all the essential ingredients and it really made me reminisce sweet memories of my father's homemade lahb. All the herbs and the amount of fish sauce with sweet rice powder. It tasted just like home. The papaya was a little small but it had the perfect proportion of sugar to lime and peanuts. And the dishes came with sticky rice which was completely necessary for dipping into the excess sauce. The service is nothing notable but I didn't notice anything bad either. Food was not bad- not what I expected with all the rave reviews though. Spice level is on point- 7 is exactly what I expected. Portion sizes were fine if you were looking at three courses, but again, not what I expected especially considering other reviews. I ordered an item without onion- had an entire half of an onion in it- only found out when I got take out order home (guess my bad, should have checked). When I called restaurant the person who answered was short and asked, "what I wanted him to do?!" And hung up when I was taken aback and said, "I guess I don't know, nevermind?". My husband and I went here for lunch on a Friday, so it wasn't busy and we had really good service. I've had better Thai food before but I did like this place and would probably go back. My husband and I got the sample appetizer, Galanga coconut soup with tofu, and Panang Curry with chicken. Total was about $40 before tip, which did seem a little pricey for how much I enjoyed the food, but also seemed similar to what I usually pay at a Thai restaurant. The flavors were pretty good (again not the best), we particularly liked the appetizer sampler. However the tofu was a soft tofu and I personally prefer firmer tofu. The curry was also the thinest curry I've ever had anywhere (literally the same consistency as the soup. They had the option of sticky rice or steamed jasmine rice, but we forgot to specify and they didn't ask so we ended up with sticky rice. Didn't really matter to me, because I prefer brown rice and they didn't have that option. The decor was nice, but there was several spots on the wall where the paint was chipping off, and the drink glasses were the kind you'd have a pizza joint, which really didn't match their food dishes. So overall it seems like a casual place, while at the same time trying to be a little more upscale. read more

I'm kind of all about customer service these days. I love to cook from home, so spending money going out to eat is always with the purpose of having a dining "experience". Bad customer service once, from one person, is not enough to write a bad review. However, I've been treated poorly by staff the last 3 times I've been in. Each time I try and give the benefit of the doubt, and each time it's always the same: my various waiters seem very irritated to be doing their job. I've come alone for lunch, invited a date, and brought in a group of friends and family members. Doesn't seem to matter. It's hard to pay my hard-earned money to someone who doesn't seem to really want me there. Staff- please don't hate! Your food is great, but your attitude stinks. read more

Not impressed. I had the chicken pad thai. It was bland, almost tasteless. I wanted to send it back especially because the peanuts were not there. But after setting the food down, the waiter went in the back and wasn't back for a good 5-10 minutes. I was too hungry to care so I gulped it down. Also got to taste the beef red curry and that DID taste like the real deal. Having eaten in Thailand and at a Thai places across the country, I can easily say that the pad thai was probably the worst I've had. Not that it tasted bad, it just didn't taste like Pad Thai. We went for dinner there. Ordered Chicken Satay appetizer, Pad Thai, Rad Nah and Chicken Fried Rice. The peanut sauce that comes with the appetizer is the bomb! I love Thai food and decided to pick up some Thai Drift on my way home one night. They had it ready for pickup really quickly (and this was a Friday night) and the food was great overall. My only warning is that when you order something spicy it is really spicy. I always think of myself as being able to handle a lot of heat but when I told them to make it 7 out of 10 I could barely handle it. I can't even imagine what type of person could handle a 10 out of 10 at Thai Drift... this isn't the reason for the docked star, though, as this really was my fault. The guy on the phone even warned me that 7 out of 10 would be hot. My only real complaint is that there wasn't enough beef in my massaman curry. The sauce is great, I really liked the cashews (I've noticed some places use peanuts instead, I prefer cashews), but there just wasn't as much beef as I was hoping for. I wish that Yelp allowed half-stars, though, because I would actually give this place a 4.5. read more

Delish! Swift, as the name says; this is perfect for a quick lunch. I was in and out in under 30 min, including a long line and sitting down to eat. Pretty annoying to show up to a place 20 minutes before it closes and be told we can only order "to-go" just to watch a bunch of teenagers come in 15 minutes afterwards and walk right in and be seated... if you are going in late don't waste your time. read more

They sat us then forgot about us, randomly brought us water. I got the lunch special (pumpkin curry) which they brought 10 minutes before my husbands food (red curry). His napkin was dirty. After a few visits, I've got no complaints about the quality of the food. However, portion size of certain dishes here can raise an eyebrow, or both. Namely the seafood salad and the pineapple fried rice. Both were great, but the seafood salad was skimpy and I would need to order two more rounds of these to even get semi-full. The portion just really doesn't make sense for an entree that costs roughly $12. The pineapple fried rice came with a more appropriate portion but again, it wouldn't fill you up. Consider the main ingredient is old rice, it should over stuff you instead of not filling. Overall, really good flavors and high end ingredients in every dish, but plan to do a 3 course meal if you want to walk away full. read more

It's a tiny restaurant, but the food is really good. I've had better Thai before, but for the price this was hands down the best. My wife, two small kids and I ate plenty for under $25, and like I said, the food was really good. They have a decent-sized menu too, with lots of different types of options, so it should work for any dinner group. read more

Thai Drift is my Must Stop whenever I'm near Provo/Lindon... Go for the lunch specials in particular, and it becomes not only delicious, but also amazingly cheap! The pumpkin curry is my favorite, with a thai iced tea to drink. The only problem is the tea goes down so quick, you'll need another one. read more

Excellent! The food was very good we had Beef and Broccoli and Pad Thai with Shrimp. The restaurant was nice and clean and had a great atmosphere. The service was great they catered to our every need. The prices are good as well. We love this place. My wife and I come here every time we are in Utah. Inexpensive, good portion size (I usually have left overs), and they have lunch specials. The service can be spotty from time to time. I love the red, pineapple, and pumpkin curry. My wife always goes for the green curry. Their pad Thai is good too. Spring rolls and chicken satays are very good as well. I have recommended this place to numerous people and they have all loved it. I've never sat down there and tried their food in the restaurant but I've had pad Thai 2 times as a "to go" meal. I have probably never had such dry pad Thai ever! I thought it was bland and it tasted like it was cooked the previous day. Also there were HUGE pieces of garlic in it, like half a clove pieces and it was not pleasant to bite on those :( So not a fan of their pad Thai. However the service was good and it came about pretty fast so I'll give them that. So for now I am giving them a bad review and I would never recommend this restaurant until I try something else and check if their other stuff is good. I'll give them 2 stars for service. read more

All 5 dishes that we ordered to go were horrible. All of the meat was extremely over cooked. The rice was over cooked and burnt in some places. All of the thai noodles were under cooked and were too chewy. It wasn't even busy in the restaurant. There was no reason for the poorly cooked and poorly seasoned food. We're done! Kept thinking we would give Thai Drift one more chance and it's not working out for us. (Sadly, We've been giving them our last chance for 6 months). We've be eating there for years and the food has been good but lately they are watering down their peanut sauce to where it's like water. Pad thai noodles so hard and dry it seems like it had been sitting out for a couple of hours. Sticky rice had some dry hard spots on it also.
