    Pad Mee with Chicken

Very cramped space, hard to accommodate our party of 7. But the food was great! I got the Pad Mee with chicken for $13.50, and the portion was huge!

Ok....how do I put this delicately.... The quality of the Pad Thai's were extremely poor....I'll explain why. The rice noodles were overcooked and stuck together, which could only mean one thing....they pre-cooked the noodles then refrigerated it then reheated it, and not fresh....oh and they don't know how to cook noodles. Stingy on the protein (beef and pork), and whatever protein there was it was extremely tough. The pork tasted and looked like a door mat and the prawns were not cut/detailed. Not surprisingly I had indigestion all night. Honestly, it was probably the worst Pad Thai I've had so far.

Pad Sew Ew, Pad Thai & Sprint Rolls

Had a Thai craving and decided to check out Thai Basil. I ordered delivery which sometimes lowers the quality and can't speak on what the in restaurant experience is like. Spring Rolls - 7/10 They were good but not my favorite. I live for a good spring roll and they were just missing something. They also didn't have any carrot in them as described on their website. It was strictly cabbage with some vermicelli. The one pro was that they were not greasy which you often find with spring rolls. Pad Thai with Chicken - 7/10 I was pleasantly surprised to see two shrimp included in my chicken pad thai. I'm not sure if that was an error or how their orders come. The portion was large for lunch (enough for leftovers - which is always appreciated). There was nothing wrong but again, nothing extremely memorable either. Pad Sew Ew - 8/10 Super tasty but I'd say it's hard to go wrong with some egg noodles, veggies and protein. I wasn't a fan of the side salad that came with the orders. The flavor of the dressing wasn't too my liking - but i think that's just a personal preference. The veggies seemed clean and fresh.

I'm not crazy about this place. I thought it was alright. It's really small. Can probably only accommodate 10 people at a time. I think this place is meant for take out. I ordered a Pad Thai and it's too dry for my liking. The menu items are reasonably priced considering its downtown location. The place is neat and the service is friendly. That's everything I can say about this place.

Really disappointing this time. The pad krap pao pork was so blend in flavour and ingredients. I understand the costs are up but charging more for less is frustrating for loyal customers. Will take a break and try out other options.

thai basil was my to-go restaurant when i was a student because of the amazing price point and authentic taste. I grew up in Thailand and I find most of the thai restaurant in this city "fancify" the food and ambience so much, but none of those in that basil. This place provides average service, street foodish/minimal ambience, and good portion, which is what I look for in a authentic thai restaurant. we ordered tom ga kai. This is tom yum with evaporated milk, and we loved it! there were lots of ingredients with different textures for you to enjoy: cubed chicken breast, mushroom, veggies etc. A soup that is perfect order for both summer and winter and anytime really :) Thai basil is known for their curries within my friend circle haha. We ordered their weekly special: keang phed saparod ped. Think red curry with pineapple with duck. An interesting combination, in my opinion, but it worked out ok. Would want to try their massaman next. for dessert, I got mango sticky rice. the sticky rice is a bit over cooked (mushy) and they were a bit stingy on the coconut milk. the mango was stringy. but overall a solid mango sticky rice because honestly you cannot go wrong with this dish.

Had ordered six dishes for three people but it could easily serve two meals so it is like six people. The food is very flavorful and we ordered tofu as the protein and I liked how the tofu was different types in each of the dishes for example some was soft and others was fried. My favorite dish was the fried rice. Highly recommend.

Yikes! Ordered pineapple fried rice, and the pineapples were missing! Overload on white onion chunks, no pineapples :(.

Finally a Thai restaurant in Vancouver with HOLY BASIL for their pad gra pao! Other places call it that but uses Thai basil which are not the same. Thank you thank you kob khun ka

Green curry with chicken lunch special
    Jasmine L.

I was just walking around and decided to pop by here to grab lunch since their Green Curry Lunch Special seemed appealing. The restaurant itself is a small little place with very cute vintage decorations like mail boxes and a cute bike. The food was OK, it wasn't too flavourful and there was hardly any spiciness. And the salad on the side was just really sad.

The chicken satay was definitely very good, flavorful and tender. The peanut sauce goes very well with the meat. Downside was the calamari, the pieces are quite big which make it not as crispy as it would be. Our favorite was the salmon penang curry. the coconut flavor of the curry together with the sweetness make it a very well balanced item. it went very well with the jasmine rice. We also tried the mango sticky rice. the warm sticky rice went perfectly well with the sweetness of the mango. very well made I would love to visit again to try other items on the list which caught my eyes

Drinks were nice (BBL/peach Bellini non-alcoholic) but probably overpriced for the size. (Banju drinks are half the price.) My friend's seafood dish had a weird mix of too many onions and drowned lettuce with not enough noodles. My pad Thai with beef had kind of a fishy taste. Have had more delicious pad Thai at places like Thai Coco or even Thai Express. Was offered dessert but didn't feel like staying. Servers were telling other customers about their 1.5 hour policy and they were really bothered by my empty drink container on the table until I put it down below on a chair for our purses and things. I actually wanted to keep the cup because it was thick plastic and reusable. Weird that at 5:30, they wouldn't let people sit inside because of reservations. Didn't look full by the time we left either so I think we could have sat inside just fine. Anyway ... I don't think I'll be back.

Steep as it is, I decided I wanted a "quick little sushi lunch with a view", and a quick little sushi lunch with a few is exactly what I received. Although I don't recommend it, I walked right in from the street, no reservation, and was seated at the bar (in pretty casual street clothes I may add). I enjoyed a premium sake flight (which was fine...just fine), an old fashioned served with the perfect accompanying dark chocolate, and a good amount of sushi including their signature aburi style sushi in flight form and nigiri tuna flight (bluefin, chutoro, otoro). After visiting Japan last December, I'm a bit of an otoro snob but I have to hand it to them, all three of these cuts were perfect. The accompanying rice, perfection. The quality of the fish, divine. The view was the cherry on top of this experience. This will certainly be a spot I revisit next time I'm in Vancouver.

Michelin starred quality in their service by how they explained the menu, brought out the food, came back around to refill waters. Just top notch service and elegantly so. The food was good but not of value. Their lunch set was a good introductory to what they offer. I enjoyed the food for its flavours and presentation but I thought that it was a bit overpriced. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, fresh and definitely elevated, but it was $50 for 10pcs of sushi, 2 appetizer sized samples of their appetizer or entree dishes, and miso soup (which we did not get and didn't realize till much later in the day). If you're wanting an upscale experience (and portion) of good quality food or wanting to impress other parties, then this is a nice spot. For regular eats, it's a bit too luxurious to be a casual thing in my opinion. The ambiance is nice and calm. They have a patio, which has a meh view overlooking the harbor, but beware of a breezy day. It will catch a bit of a wind tunnel. They have heaters and blankets but the heaters don't really reach unless you're sitting next to it.

My partner really wanted to try their Boat Noodle for a while now so we were quite excited to try that dish. The waiter was nice and recommended a couple dishes for us. Som Tum (Papaya Salad) 3/5 The texture was nice and it tasted refreshing but it is QUITE spicy. I appreciate the authentic Thai spice level but it was too spicy for us. I liked the sourness and I know this rating is a very personal rating based on our spice tolerance. Roti with Curry Sauce 3.75/5 Nice, flaky roti that wasn't too oily. I wish there was a little more sauce. Pad See Ew with Crab Meat 4/5 Great flavor. There was a decent number of clumped up noodle but the portion was great. Good amount of crab as well. Boat Noodle Soup 4.25/5 This was the best boat noodle we had so far. Flavorful broth with generous portion of various meats. There could be an option to get more noodles but my partner got this and she was satisfied with the amount since there were good chunks of meat. Good heat that creeps up. Roselle Drink 3.75-4.5/5 Great compliment to the dishes as it lightened and refreshed our pallette. Slightly sour. It tasted better with the food than by itself. Thai Milk Tea 3.5/5 Good enough. Wasn't the best but wasn't bad. Rainbow Sweet Sticky Rice 4.25/5 We were surprised it came in a cup and that it was soup-ier than we imagined. I was hoping that they had mango sticky rice but we thoroughly enjoyed the coconut I think it's also important to keep in mind that this is a relatively fast paced restaurant. There is some wait so you want to finish your food, pay, and leave. The staff was nice but we could tell that they wanted to keep the flow. We would be coming back again for sure! We loved the staff and the food.

We tried three dishes this time. We had MOO TOD PRIK TAI DUM as appetizer. It's fried pork loin with tamarind dipping sauce. The pork was surprisingly lean yet tender. It somehow reminded me of McNuggets but of course better. We had PAD PONG GARREE CRAB MEAT (turmeric curry with crab meat) and PAD KEE MAO CRAB MEAT (stir fired sheet noodles with crab meat) as our mains. Both dishes came with impressive amount of crab chunks. They were very flavorful and delicious. The curry was smooth and went so well with rice. The Pad Kee Mao was very well done too! The noodles were chewy, with layers of tastes - savory and herbal (lemongrass/ lemon leaves?) and it has wok hei too! Service was good. Servers were helpful and friendly! The taste and portion was good for the money. The only down side is that there's no free parking around the area. If parking is easier, I would go there more often!

As usual, I'm late to the party. I've heard about Phnom Penh…read moreand its famous chicken wings ever since I moved to Vancouver, nine-ish years ago. My fellow Yelpers raved about this place when I first moved here, and my kid came here with her school pals 5-6 years ago and also raved about the wings. It's been on my list to come here forever - and last night, finally, I did. It did not disappoint. My kid warned me, there'll probably be a line up waiting to get in (they don't take reservations here. I checked), so we decided to go at an off-time and get an early dinner, around 5pm on Friday. We walked there and, miracle of miracle, there was no line and we got seated right away. (Granted, we got the last vacant table in the place, and when we left after our meal, there already was a line of people waiting to get in). Food-wise...wow. I am NOT one for adventurous eating, so there were dishes on the menu I couldn't comfortably order (I wish I could, but hey, I'm better now than I used to be!). Still, there was lots for me to choose from. And first and foremost, I HAD to try the famous chicken wings. And I can honestly say, they were the best I've ever had: SO SO crunchy and crispy on the outside, and hot and moist on the inside. OMG so so so good. I can't speak highly enough of these! My kid ordered the butter beef. It was tasty and soft ("like butta!"), and the marinade was lovely, but personally, I couldn't get over the...rawness and redness of the meat and juice (which looked like blood to me). For fellow non-adventurous eaters out there, this might not be for you, despite how flavorful it tasted. It was just hard for me to get over how it looked. (I know I'm in a minority here. This dish is one of their most popular and asked-for dishes). We had the garlic dry spare ribs. I love spareribs. These were delicious but a tad too salty and greasy. I brought most of them home and had them today for lunch. I gotta say, they were so much better for me today: less salty, and I blotted off the excess grease. Delicious! My kid ordered a "small" sweet and sour soup with prawns, and wow, it came in a huge black cauldren. I can't imagine ordering a large size. Anyhow, this soup was a stand-out soup - especially for my kid who said she had dreams about it all night (lol)! So complex in flavors - spicy, sweet, savory, chock full of prawns and sprouts and lotus shoots and pineapple chunks and and other delicious stuff.... For me, it was a wee tad too spicy, but wow, even I thought, this is a special soup. So delicious and warming. 10/10. Our servers were prompt and impressively able to efficiently tend to a full house of diners. They got it all down to a science here. One issue of note: my kid had to use the washroom at one point and she left for a very extended period of time. I actually thought at one point that something had happened to her or she was ill, she was gone so long (VERY unlike her). When she returned, she told me it was "quite a hike", around the back of the restaurant and up a flight of stairs, too. I only make note of this in case anyone has mobility issues, know that the bathroom will be difficult (or impossible) for you to access.
