Craving Thai after a full day of appointments and running errands, I stopped at Thai Avenue on the way home based on a Yelp search and reviews. This is definitely a hole in the wall, but don't let that stop you. Depending on when you arrive, you may be the only one sitting in the dining room, again, don't worry. The food is legit. Fresh, flavorful and plentiful. Ordered Pad Kee Mao, my go-to, and it arrived quickly. The dish is very veggie forward so if you prefer more protein, spend a few extra dollars and order extra protein. The reason for 4 stars and not five is for two reasons. The veggies - onion and green peppers, cabbage - are diced, not cut in strips as is traditional. This may sound minor, but shape affects texture and makes it challenging to eat along with the noodles. Dicing is typically for fried rice or chicken and cashew type dishes, not long noodle dishes. And the peppers are green, not red, which have a much better flavor. Although I was the only one eating my meal there, people were coming and going picking up take-out orders. From the conversations, it was obvious many were regulars. Parking was a bit sketchy - there is a strip parking area right past the restaurant - and thankfully on this late night, while I was alone, there weren't any tents otherwise I would probably have passed. Probably should try more things here but I am stuck on their Khao Soi- I have had it like 4 times and every time it is so deeply comforting and delicious. Pickled mustard greens, fresh yummy veggies, crunchy noodles and unreal broth! When the craving comes I cannot resist. I have had the salad rolls they are good too, served with warm peanut plum sauce. The owner is wonderful, warm and kind and the restaurant itself is spacious with thoughtful decor, there is also plenty of outdoor seating and parking. We've lived a few blocks from this place for a while and have seen it gone thru many incarnations so we were skeptical when it became a Thai place but I'm so glad we finally got over our skepticism and gave it a shot! The environment inside is cozy yet open with plenty of seating. They have a bar inside which is just delightful. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food came quick enough and was paced well with the drinks and appetizers. We had the egg rolls, the Khao Pad, and the Yellow Curry and were very happy with all of our dishes. It's a pretty standard Thai menu but the Khao Pad was a unique dish to me and I thoroughly loved it! It's a beautiful take on fried rice with big bits of freshly cooked veg. My partner really liked his Yellow Curry. The warm dish and the spice were perfect on a cold evening. Give this place a shot. The outside may not look like much, especially if you've seen it as the former businesses there but it's definitely our choice for Thai from now on! read more

When I got it, I could not eat it because I was so spicy. I could tell though that it is very delicious. I got a new one, and I was correct. first review! i will try to be as thorough as possible. this is a brand new thai restaurant located on powell, previous owner of khao soy thai in the pearl! the authentic flavors certainly transferred over to this location (as well as their signature khao soy dish) we ordered a feast for 5ish people, but i didnt quite get to snap a photo of it all.. please keep in mind that some of these dishes (like the skewers) were somewhat of a bulk order, so it doesn't accurately depict the amount you would get with just a single order. the place used to be a sports bar with pool tables, and they have done a lovely job with revamping the space! much of the decor as well as the wooden tables were made by the owners themselves. love the creativity, especially with their accent wall that features traditional thai plates which are very hard to find! while there are many thai restaurants in this area, i would highly recommend giving this place a try! some of the top highlights for our group were the pork skewers/moo ping (best eaten with sticky rice), pad grapao, and all of the noodle dishes! if you're someone who likes herbs and spice, the nam tok moo is a really great option as well (also goes good with sticky rice lol) price wise, very reasonable considering the generous portions. service, also delightful - no complaints. read more

Stopped here today for the first time. The food here is amazing and there is lots of it. I'm not a knowledgeable connoisseur of Thai foods, but I've had a lot of different Pad Thai dishes over the years. I have to say that this was one of the best I've ever had. Lyn had a plate of Pad Cashew Nut which she loved. We also had some appetizers: Pot stickers, coconut prawns, and cream cheese wontons which were all terrific. The food is first class, as is the presentation and the very friendly service. Prices are very reasonable. We will definitely be coming back here. Right now I cannot think of another Thai restaurant in the Portland area as good as this one. read more

The food here is excellent and the staff is helpful and friendly. I always judge a Thai place by their Pad Thai and Pad Kee Mao. Both are excellent with great textures. My husband had one of the more regional dishes and enjoyed it as well. They were in NW Portland for 10 years and moved to this location. Location on Powell isn't the most inviting, but the food and staff are definitely worth a visit. This is my go-to now for Thai food. They also have beer, wine and liquor. Try it! read more

Went with two friends this past Friday evening. We had a wonderful, relaxed experience. The appetizers, (try the coconut shrimp, for example!) and menu choices were varied and delicious. The vegetables were ample, fresh and crisp and the tofu I chose with my entree was the best I've had in Portland.
