A couple years ago I stopped at this restaurant to meet my family and I really loved the food. We always said next time we were in Dayton we'd eat there again, so we got take out dinner on our way through yesterday. The PadThai had little to no flavor, the noodles were completely stuck together in one big lump, and the sauce was not at all a typical padthai sauce. It was very tomato based, which is not . The sweet & sour stir fry was ok, but it had more of a Chinese style thick sauce rather than a fresh light sauce I expected in Thai food. I will say the golden tofu was delicious and perfectly fried. The chicken satay was a big hit with one of my kids, and I enjoyed the peanut dipping sauce. The portion sizes were quite large, too. I'm not sure If cooking staff has changed or not, but I just remember the food being much better which was a bummer. read more

Don't let the bland exterior fool you. The warm and inviting dining room is a treat for the senses as you step into this exotic little piece of Thailand. I finally got to meet up again with my friend and fellow Yelper, Libby V. for a wonderful afternoon get together. The weather was fine that sunny afternoon as we sat on the patio while the attentive server kept our cocktails flowing like the Mississippi on a warm New Orleans afternoon. Now I'll be honest that I had already set my mind on getting some of their Pad Thai which turned out to be good but not great. It came out as spicy as I asked for but then again it lacked the depth of flavors that great Pad Thai should have. Oh well, the rest of our meal made up for that. From the fresh ginger - tangy side salad to the crispy Spring Rolls we enjoyed together, everything else was excellent. I plan on going back again but I'll be sure to ask for a little special preparation on that Pad Thai to get it to where I will like it. These folks have a great reputation in Dayton and I have a strong feeling these folks can rise to the occasion. (A )- Crispy Spring Rolls are delicious and highly recommended. (B+) Sushi - Philadelphia Roll. That's a yes. (B-) Pad Thai is good but I'd ask for some extra fish sauce and spice it up a bit. I was slow to warm up to this place, but glad Mike G. suggested I give them another chance. We sat on the patio on a beautiful summer afternoon and sampled several apps, drinks and entrees. And it was all good...really good. I recommend the fried noodles though I wimped out on the spicy factor. Choice is from 1 to 10, and sent too low. Mike went to 10, and while he liked it I noticed he turned red when eating it! It isn't easy being red. Went back this week with a friend and decided it was too ungodly hot to sit outside but found the inside enjoyable as well. We had sushi, wine and several entrees. Sushi - good. Fried curry rice with chicken - excellent (level 4) and Pad Thai (level 4)- good. Took the other half home for dinner. Portions are large. Oh - and we wanted to start with sushi and it came out with entrees. Not a big deal. We still managed to eat it. Waiter kept teasing us "out of Fried Rice" "out of wine" until I told him I was "out of tip." He was full of personality and fun. Everyone here is helpful and friendly. YUM YUM YUM! What an awesome, delicious, perfectly located thai joint in downtown dayton. I went to Thai 9 last weekend on a double date. Parking was easy as there is a large lot attached. Parking is only $3 but you can get it validated if you spend $30 or more at the restaurant. Either way it's a steal! We were surprisingly seated right away outside. The tables were spread out and masks were worn by all waiters and waitresses. Our waitress greeted us immediately and brought out our drinks and took orders. For an appetizer we got eggrolls and the thai calamari YUM! For my main course I got my thai go-to: Chicken Pad Thai. The waitress does ask your spice level for this dish from 1-10. Me, being unadventurous, got a 3. The dish was extremely large and filled with flavor. The leftovers were even better ;) For two people with drinks, apps, and entrees, the meal was between $50-60 which wasn't bad at all. After dinner we we were easily able to walk through the oregon district and have a drink or two at a few bars. I had the privilege of dining here in the first couple weeks after they opened when my brother used to live in Dayton. Now, I have the opportunity to go back while I am here on business trips. Outside of maybe being more popular now, not much has changed. The food to consistently good and it has a pretty nice vibe. On the most recent trip, I had the claypot seafood dish, which was fantastic! It was a bit bigger than I thought so perhaps you'd want to consider splitting it with someone especially you have appetizers, which we did have. This is a first visit to this restaurant for me. Im not big on spicy food. Since my coworkers wanted to eat here, I was in! The waiter worked with me and made sure that I had a "fire free" lunch. I ordered Miso soup, 2 Chicken Spring Rolls and Crab fried rice. (The Chicken Spring Rolls were pretty big!) The restaurant is clean, plenty of space between tables, very nice and friendly staff!!! We had a group of 10 people, the waiter took care of us and had our appetizers and orders placed in a short amount of time! I ordered non spicy, I'm not big on spicy food. If you are ever in the Dayton area and are in the mood for real good Thai food, do yourself a favor and try this place out! One quick note, the doors open for lunch at 11:30, so plan accordingly! The last couple of times we visited Thai 9, the food was OK (not great, but OK) but the service was not so good. We tried again last week and nothing has changed. Let me start out by saying that the restaurant was not busy. Maybe 10 tables were filled and there was plenty of wait staff. Our waitress barely came around to check on us, we sat with no drinks for quite a while and then no refills for about 20 minutes after our glasses were empty. One of our friends did not get part of his meal - it just never showed up (but they did try to charge for it). Two others got their meals switched (only difference was the heat level, so I guess this is a legitimate oversight). Again, the food was just OK. All in all, not a great experience. The decor and staff here are amazing. Real nice set up. Enjoyed the ambient decor. But wasn't the greatest fan of the food. The noodles seemed as if they weren't cooked long enough they weren't soft and had a really strong egg taste. I get their egg noodles but the taste was off. I have always loved Thai 9!! The pineapple fried rice and pad wun sen are my favorite dishes. I always go lower on the heat scale like 3-4 which is very flavorful but still has a good spice level. My dad always get Thai Hot which is above the 1-10 scale and it can vary a lot on the spice so be wary if you have never ordered it that way! I've never had bad service, and even when it's busy we always seem to get our food very quickly. The Thai iced tea is soooo yummy and rich so I would definitely order some if you are a thai tea lover. It depends on what section you are seated in but sometimes it can get a little loud at dinner but it's always pretty calm during lunch time. read more

We ordered Thai iced tea, a kimchi roll, duck curry and a dessert called FBI. All of it was absolutely delicious! Ordered an 8 spicy level on the curry and it hit the spot. Even between the 2 of us sharing it there was plenty for my lunch the next day. I could have drank a pitcher of the delicious and beautiful tea. Was able to grab lunch here while I was in town for lunch. I LOVE the space! The inside is so nice. High ceilings and airy. Gives you the feeling of a temple or house in Thailand. We sat on the patio and it was perfect! Shaded on a hot day. Nice and protected. We had spring rolls to start and they were delicious and HUGE! I also had the sweet onion salad and miso soup. Both were delicious. The salad was light and I liked it as much a ginger apple dressing. I also had the spicy noodles with shrimp and rice noodles. Very tasty!! I really enjoyed it. This was my first Thai restaurant. I'm not big on spicy so I was glad they had a spice Rating from 1-10. My son had the Thai Pan noodles and he loved them. So did my husband. My husband had the shrimp stir fry. It was just ok. The shrimp was kind of blah. I had beef in oyster sauce which was good. I liked it. Not great, but good. Crab Rangoon for appetizers. They were good but I think they were overcooked. The won ton wrapper was quite dark. The atmosphere is very nice. Although it was cold. Probably because of the high ceilings. Nice decor. Good service. Again, I'm not a Thai person so I'm probably the wrong person to ask. Although my son likes it, that's why he took us there. Overall I would say it was ok. read more

Been coming here since I was a teen. Went home for the holidays and had to stop. Can't ever get anything other than the shrimp pad Thai. It's the bomb. My mom loves the papaya salad. The level of spice I can handle is about a 2-3. Another fav is the massaman curry. Went with some vegan friends and they were able to get what they needed from the menu. It was busy but the service was great. Our server was attentive and checked on us without it seeming persistent. Appreciated it. The bartenders are also fun and chatty. Such a great vibe. Very large restaurant with great staff. The waiter was very helpful and pointed us toward some great dishes. We skipped the salad and had the soup as a starter. The Miso soup was very flavorful. We tried the spider roll as an appetizer. I have to say it wasn't my favorite. Should have skipped it as it's not my normal so I am not counting against the star rating. Yellow curry with chicken. I had a spice rating of 7. Hot enough to make me sweat and not mask the flavor. The chicken was very tender and took a little flavor from the curry. I was slightly disappointed by the potatoes as they were still a little to firm for me. (To be fair was there at lunch once the doors opened). Spicy fried noodles (egg) with chicken. Very irritated. I called early in the week for a reservation and was told they don't take them for parties less than 8. Ok, fine. So I asked what the wait time was on a Sat. at 6:00 p.m. because we had tickets to an 8:00 show close by. Person on the phone said maybe half an hour to 45 minutes. I have been wanting to try Thai 9 for some time now. I finally did order through the 937delivers app for a lunch delivery. My first ordeorder was 2 weeks ago. I requested pad thai with chicken, but when delivered it was with shrimp. I wouldn't have minded shrimp, but it was tough. Today I ordered the Pad Sea Ewe with pork and spring rolls, I received the Pad sea, the description said carrot, broccoli, baby corn and egg. Sadly there was egg shell in the scramble and no spring rolls but a fried shrimp appetizer. I would like to think it's just a fluke, I might try 1 more time. Just disappointed. read more

Y'know, I usually try to pay a restaurant multiple visits before dropping a Yelp review, but I often suspend this informal rule if I'm on vacation. Thai 9 seems like it's kind of the bomb for Thai/sushi in these parts and I can see why. For one thing it's got ambience up the wazoo. I've never been in a Thai place anywhere near this big! The main room is absolutely cavernous with it's high ceilings, while at the same time feeling pretty homey if not exactly cozy. It's really a sight to see. And I don't even know how many smaller rooms are off to the sides. It was kind of an adventure even finding the bathroom. I got Pad Thai with beef as I usually start out with what's basically Thai 101 anytime I venture into an unknown Thai place. (Usually I prefer shrimp but I figured I'd have leftovers sitting in my rental making the trip back to Detroit.) It was pretty tasty, with the egg and the sauce being especially good. One interesting thing here is the spice is on a number system (Thai 9, ooohhh!) unlike the Thai restaurants I've frequented back home and in other cities where it's mild, medium, hot and extra hot. I used to find more places that had mild plus and medium plus, too, but those designations seem to have largely gone by the wayside. This is disappointing to me, as medium plus used to be my jam. I don't know if they're trying to uncomplicate the process with less temps but Thai 9 pleases me by going in the opposite direction with 0-9 with 9 being the most blazingest. The system I'm used to you'd get 6 levels at most, with 4 levels being more common. At any rate my server was patient with my probably annoying newfound wonder at their system. I ended up going with 5. I probably could have kicked it up to 6, but better safe than sorry, right? The price was slightly more than I was used to, but the portion was nice and heaping, too, so it seemed reasonable. I had a nice fourth meal out of it when I finally rolled bleary-eyed into the D. I had fun eavesdropping on a couple near me, too. This blonde lady was an avid concert-goer and music fan and discussed at length Violent Femmes, Eminem and, oh, somebody else just as different from those two as they are from each other. She was very analytical and had diverse tastes. It was enjoyable listening. I could probably almost give this place a 5, but it's hard to judge from just one visit, and just eating the most basic of Thai entrees, so I'm going to go with a 4 as that's the median average here.
