We couldn't describe more ideal hosts for our wedding - Deb and Herb were kind and thoughtful, extremely professional and prompt, super flexible, and an absolute joy to work with. With all our questions and extra visits, we always felt welcome and accommodated at Pacheco Ranch. On the day of the wedding, Herb and Deb were directing traffic, managing vendors, and clearly enjoying every moment of it. They take so much pride and love in caring for their home, and it shows in the natural beauty that flows throughout the ranch.

The grounds are beautiful, I see why many people choose this spot for weddings and parties. The old ranch house is still owned by a descendent of Ignacio Pacheco - for whose family our town, some shopping centers, and a bunch of streets (including Rowland) in Marin are all named. We were there on a beautiful November day at an event remembering a friend who had recently passed. Even though the event itself was bittersweet, the management at the ranch did an exceptional job of making our visit memorable. The family provided parking assistance, led all the guests to the beautiful outdoor space, and kept the food and beverages flowing during the memorial. I will definitely think of Pacheco for our next event!

While working in St. Helena, I could never find an opening in a reservation, so here was a great opportunity now that all of us are retired. Our friends live in Clear Lake while we live in Vallejo, so this is a central place to meet. It was the best decision I made because every year for the past several anniversaries, we've gone to Cache Creek to C2. Their food and service is excellent because my husband enjoys poker, but I thought a change of scenery would be nice. And it was! Firstly, it was very kind of the staff to present us with a greeting card signed by everyone -- how sweet and thoughtful! We will cherish that! Secondly, we were very impressed with how the food/wine was locally sourced. It was incredible to hear the story about Custom, the Bull, and taste the difference between the Highland beef compared to Angus. Our waitress was "Erica S." She was engaging, personable, and very informative. My husband and I would definitely like to return to return to experience the dinner menu! We and our guests had the following dishes: Artichoke appetizer Arbororio Biscuits & Gravy Two Cheeseburgers Three Bloody Mary's Farmstead Margarita When they found out it was our anniversary celebration, the house sent over four glasses of complimentary champagne and a dish of dessert -- again, very sweet and kind of them I now understand why so many crowds flock to this restaurant! It's well worth the wait! If you have not experienced a meal there, you must definitely go now!

From the beginning, there seemed to be constant miscommunication between staff. We specifically booked an outdoor reservation and were seated inside instead. While mistakes happen, it set the tone for the rest of the evening. The bigger issue involved the wine and corkage fee. We purchased a bottle directly from the market associated with the restaurant and were told by the employee there that the corkage fee would be waived if we bought their wine. When we sat down, our server Sara told us that was not true and that we would still have to pay the fee. I explained what we had been told, and when she asked if I wanted a manager involved, I said yes. Before the manager even arrived or clarified the situation, the server opened our bottle of wine. In the silence and confusion, I reasonably assumed the fee issue had been resolved. Then the manager came over and told us we would still be charged and implied that nobody at the market would have told us otherwise. The way it was handled made my husband and I feel like we were being accused of making the whole thing up, which was especially upsetting on Mother's Day. At that point, the bottle was already opened, so we were essentially stuck paying the fee regardless. Between being seated incorrectly, the poor communication between employees, and how dismissive the situation felt, the service completely overshadowed what should have been a special meal. The rest of the service we felt ignored and there was minimal effort to accommodate. Great food alone is not enough to justify returning when the hospitality experience feels this frustrating and unprofessional.

It's serene, grounding, and quietly stunning--a place that invites you to slow down, take a deep breath, and savor both the wine and the moment. From the moment you arrive, the owners will make you feel like old friends. Their passion for what they do truly shines through, and the service is friendly, attentive, and never rushed. You can tell this is a labor of love, not just a business. The wines are fantastic--with something for everyone. I love the chardonnays and my bf loves their wine slushies. Very refreshing on a hot day. Another plus is you can bring your own food as long as there is not an event taking place where they serve food. Be sure to check their website calendar before you arrive. If you're looking for a one of a kind place in Castro Valley, that is beautiful, relaxing, family‑run, and genuinely special, this is it. It's the kind of winery you want to bring all your friends, and recommend without hesitation. Highly recommend.

Tucked away along the winding backroads of Castro Valley, this charming winery feels like a little secret escape. It's quiet, secluded, and has a really welcoming vibe. The staff was super friendly and made us feel right at home. I learned the winery has been around since 2003 and produces around 1,000 cases a year. All sold exclusively at the vineyard. We did a tasting that included a sparkling, two whites, two reds, and ended with a fun slushy rosé. Honestly, I liked every single one which never happens for me! After the tasting, we didn't want to leave. The setting was so relaxing, we ended up opening one of the two bottles we bought and spent the rest of the afternoon soaking it all in. A few tips if it's your first time: tastings are only offered on the second and fourth weekends of each month. There's a $10 tasting fee for six wines, but it's waived if you purchase a bottle (which are very reasonably priced at around $16). They don't sell food, but you're welcome to bring your own, something we'll definitely do next time. So glad we found this place such a peaceful spot, just minutes from home. We'll definitely be back!

It came with bone marrow which was unique and very tasty. The views are incredible. The vineyards...Mt Diablo and the views of the clear night sky with low light pollution are breathtaking. When we first arrived we were seated right away and given waters immediately by our lovely host, after being seating it took 15 minutes for our waiter to even look at us and when she did she said "Do you know what you want to drink?", this was our first interaction. It took about 20 minutes to receive our wine and when she brought it to us she never let us taste the wine before pouring it, which I have never experienced at any other winery. After leaving it took an extra 10 minutes to receive our order of French fries, luckily the water machine was right next to us so whenever we needed a refill we could just get up and get it ourselves! We almost asked them to not even bring out the bread because it had been 45 minutes after ordering before it came to our table. I think we would have been more understanding if it was a busy night but it was the complete opposite. I could have driven all the way to Napa, been served, eaten a full meal, then home with my teeth brushed in bed by 8, but instead I'm at Shadowbrook waiting for my bread. Overall the food was great, the wine was excellent but the service was absolutely horrific! We felt overlooked and unwelcome from the start. Our server barely acknowledged us and gave the impression that we weren't worth her time while serving others next to us with enthusiasm. Unfortunately the 20% service charge did it for me, I wouldn't mind paying if it was worth it, if I could tip our waitress less I would.
