They understood what we wanted and suggested design that would work well. They assisted in choosing cabinetry, flooring and counter tops that all worked well together. Tom came originally to scope out the construction details and what would need to be done ex. vent for stove through attic, sub panel for electric system. Once the construction started Eric was the lead carpenter. He supervised the whole project. He was great. He kept us informed about what was happening when. He also introduced us to each of the sub contractors who came to do work. All were pleasant and professional. They put protective coverings on floors and doorways to limit dust. At the end of each day they cleaned up and vacuumed the work area. When one of the cabinet doors came in the wrong size, there was no question about replacing it. One thing I really appreciated was that construction did not start until they had received all of the cabinets, flooring, countertop etc so work went smoothly and was completed without delays.

We worked with Alyssa to help design everything, something she has great skill and a true eye for detail. She didn't try to push products or oversell us. If anything, she provided some suggestions on how to lower cost (used remnants for the quartz countertop; suggested comparing costs to Home Depot). Once the design was finalized, I was extremely impressed with Eric, the contractor who installed the island himself and oversaw the other contractors. He was excellent communicating with me each and every day. He noticed some inconsistencies in the wood on the cabinet doors of the island and immediately ordered new one (he still installed the original and came a few days later with the new doors). Everything was just so professional. I haven't had too many experiences with contractors in the past, but every one I (and my family, for that matter) have had for the most part have been negative. The project doesn't start on time, finish on time, guys no-show for no apparent reason, etc. This was the opposite. Watch City had the chance to move up the timeline, which fit into my schedule. As a result, the project was done a week early. If you're looking to do any sort of work on your kitchen, definitely give Watch City a look.

We struggled for over a year to find someone to help us retro-fit our lower cabinet and counter top for a new cook top. Then we found Paul! He made sure to present us with the best possible options and then executed it wonderfully. When I decided I needed doors for my office, Paul was the first person I thought of because I wanted the job done right and to look great. I am so happy with the outcome. I highly recommend him!

We contacted Paul at DesignWorks Company (DWC) to get a bid on renovating our bathroom. Paul got…read moreright back to us and arranged to come look at our (sad, dated) bathroom. He had some great ideas on how to enhance the space, showing us how we could easily have a bigger shower. We checked with a couple of other companies, but went with DWC because we liked Paul's responsiveness, ability to explain, patience, and flexibility. The bid wasn't the cheapest, but DWC did a fantastic job and was worth every penny! Paul walked us through every step, from design ideas to site logistics to explaining the process to connecting us with wonderful, sensible local vendors for tile, fixtures, paint, and window treatments. He and his crew are reliable, trustworthy, friendly, and CLEAN, besides being outstanding craftsmen. The subcontractors he engages are just as wonderful. They all have a good relationship with the city and took care of all permits and communication with the city. His ability to coordinate and adjust schedules kept the project humming along - it was finished in less time than anticipated despite a global pandemic hitting right at the end! He and his subs worked with the city to get everything signed off despite the city's shutdown. If you've read this far, I hope you'll let me share a story or two. How clean are they at DWC? They set up a staging area in a spare room with plastic walls and floor covering, and covered the stairs as well. One day I looked out the window to see them vacuuming the *driveway* at the end of a day when they were sawing outdoors. How good are they? They found a squeaky subfloor board on the landing and fixed it (yes, it cost extra) because they were worried it might warp the tiles in the bathroom. The subcontractors pointed out many times little details that made them want to work with DWC. How creative are they? They wanted to recess our medicine cabinet but found a pipe behind the wall. So they bumped out the wall there so we could have a recessed cabinet (which we hadn't even thought of, but which looks much nicer than one hanging on the wall). How quiet are they? I work from home, and they never disturbed me. Or our dog, for that matter, but she's pretty deaf. In fact, they were always happy to see her, which of course endeared them to me even more. How perfectionist are they? They fixed some dings made in the other rooms in the course of the work and even had the painter do the stairway, even though most of those dings were done by us. Finally, if you've read this far, the DWC crew and everyone who works with them are just plain NICE. It was a pleasure to have them work with us, and I would engage them again in a heartbeat.

These guys deserve a review, and five stars nonetheless!…read more Over the long July 4th weekend, my toilet water valve broke (sddsdvvxfsdsdfsdf). Thinking it would be an easy fix, I went through a chain of DIYs I consequently regretted. In the end, the pipe ("nipple" as the lingo goes) that I thought would be a standard fit for a new water valve, was of course not standard. I went to Home Depot, and they sent me a'packing and told me to call a plumber. Well, you try getting a damn plumber over the long freaking weekend that won't charge you a visit fee and a $300/hr emergency rate. Therefore, on to more DIY attempts, after much failure of getting a plumber out to my house (this took about three days of NO water as we had to turn the main water valve off). Luckily, we found this gem, albeit lacking in reviews and situated in the more industrial part of Waltham. We were NOT disappointed. Plenty of street parking, so we placed our car in front of the entrance, and went in to be greeted by a fleet of guys who looked happy to get a customer on a Monday before the fourth. The first guy we spoke to knew what he was talking about as soon as we showed him the water valve we cut off, including the nipple we needed replacing that was attached. He told us what we needed to do (we needed to go back to measure the pipe length as of course we didn't think about doing that) and told us he had the non-standard parts we needed (THANK THE LORD). One trip home and a lunch later, we came back with the measurements. Unfortunately, the last guy we spoke with wasn't there, so we had to re-explain the situation. A total of about 3-4 guys worked with us, trying to figure out the best approach (love the teamwork) as one of the guys called the original guy who spoke with us (sorry for the lack of names, I'm horrible with them). Although I didn't think they were as efficient or as sure of themselves as the first guy (Pete was it?), they still set us up with parts and alternative options about ten minutes after we arrived. Plus, while we waited when they were figuring out the best approach, they had a cute pup behind the counter that kept us amused. In the end, we left with a bag of parts and a game strategy (they gave us extra parts to try, and told us to return anything we didn't use, which is much appreciated). Ultimately, we had to cut a bigger hole and replace the nipple, as we thought. They recommended calling a plumber to come in to perform the labor, but although gave us tips on if we wanted to do it ourselves (I strongly urge first timers to call a plumber and observe, which is what we did after our many failed DIY attempts). In the end, highly recommended, especially if you think you need parts that you can't find in big chain stores like home depot.

Update 11/8/20: see comments on my personal Facebook page…read more(Maureen Holmes) for comments on Robin Boyce after posting my review there. Unfortunately I am not the only one who has endured a bad experience with her. MH I warn anyone who will listen away from this unethical business and owner Robin Boyce. I had the misfortune to be her client and endure her careless, unprofessional, dishonest and ultimately abusive and vulgar treatment. My "custom kitchen" arrived without the custom elements and with a grossly oversized refrigerator. The kitchen designer blames someone else for a major kitchen error and refuses to fix it! (See photos) I had the exact same experience with the shutters and the custom stair-runner I ordered from her. They were both delivered with errors and missing parts, and Design West has done NOTHING to correct its errors. This is the worst experience I've ever had with another human being, period. I never received an apology on any mistake I swear to God. That's when I realized too late I had hired the wrong person. Robin Boyce/Design Center West scammed me by promising professional results and delivering dirt. Robin Boyce then turned verbally abusive when confronted with her easily disproved lies. (I have all documentation to prove my charges.) This last point deserves special mention. When I expressed my dismay at the errors, delays and lack of accountability, her demeanor shifted immediately from friendly to combative and borderline violent. It was a shock to learn the owner wasn't just a sleaze but mentally unhinged too. When I confronted her in her store after she ignored my contractor's emails and texts, she began screaming profanities at me while hurling insults about my appearance and character, which I presumed was an intimidation tactic. That felt sickening, but it worsened when she came at me with her arm pulled back as if to throw a punch, but thankfully she stopped herself before landing her fist in my face. I feel certain the only thing that stopped her was a possible assault charge. I would feel sorry for Ms Boyce if she wasn't a thief, and if her emotional instability didn't manifest in such an ugly manner. But no mental state excuses her dishonesty, mentally healthy or not. Not a word of this review is hyperbole. I lost thousands of dollars and was blindsided by a venomous verbal assault because I had the temerity to call out Robin Boyce on her mendacity and fraud. I could provide a colorful litany of her actions, but suffice it to say that it involved a lot of obscene finger, hip and hand gestures. Incidentally, her staff just sat there like dummies the entire time and let it all happen. Apparently they don't have an issue working for such a repulsive woman. Prior to my dealings with her, Robin was verbally abusive to my contractor on multiple occasions as well when he asked her about delayed deliverables. Following is an example of one the few correspondences between him and Robin that isn't littered with her F-bombs: "Shut up. Stop talking. Don't tell me what to do. Its not Maureen... its you. I'm surprised guys take your mouth, and the way you talk down to others; I suspect you've been punched a few times." This is the first---and I hope last--bad review I ever had to write. Let this brutally honest review serve as a public service announcement to warn others away from this troublemaker. Do not hire Design Center West. You will pay a premium for sloppy, mediocre results, and the owner will curse you when you express your dissatisfaction. This has been a yearlong nightmare that only ended after I hired someone else to fix all of her mistakes. Caveat emptor!

Any mistakes (Fedex dropped a vanity and it cracked) were handled quickly and replaced at no cost to me. Her attention to detail is incredible. Additionally, she was very focused on saving me money and making sure I was not buying things I did not need. It has been a true pleasure working with Robin and her team again. I cannot say enough good things about them!

I did a partial kitchen reno and needed to match the existing quartz counters that Mona's team installed last time. Ran into a problem: they didn't have any remnants in that color, and I'd have to purchase a whole slab just to match a little section. Mona came to the rescue! She offered me a remnant of a different color that she promised matches really really closely the original color. And since the new section was to be installed across from the old one (not contiguous), it would be very hard to tell. Sure enough, it worked out perfectly and Mona saved me a lot of money by finding a creative solution. Just like last time, I was doing this long distance without seeing anything in person. With contractors there is always drama or miscommunications, especially if you are not there to supervise. Not with Mona. Her reliability, attention to detail, and smart problem-solving in every project, no matter how small, give me total peace of mind. And the prices are still very reasonable, even years later! Thank you so much!
