Wow! The best salon experience I've had ever outside of my mom based in KY. Most importantly, it is legitimately affordable as I consider it black economic fairness. So on that alone I highly recommend this salon 10s across the board as it should be. While I've had lower prices for premium haircare in NJ & NYC, Textures is the best that has been recommended to me in this DMV area. Secondly, the shampoo was premium quality. Cosmetologists don't cater to the scalp, hair, and strands the way they did here. She took her time to ensure no splashing of water on my ears or face as if haircare and client treatment was important to her paycheck. That is respectable given most lack this. The interior is beautiful with state of the art equipment/mirrors/lighting, the service was lovely they were all kind, the snack/beverage compliments were quality and much appreciated though I didn't know about it & came with my own so didn't really take advantage. The bathroom was nicely decorated and smelled clean. Parking & location was safe and easy. I drove far for this natural hair recommendation and I'm so glad my experience was 10/10. I've been wearing braids for a while that unfortunately led to very split ends. I was VERY hesitant to get a trim (despite needing one) because I prefer enough length to frame and flatter my face. She informed me of the cons that come with not getting a trim and I opted for one. I'm used to stylists pushing a "trim" that really leads to a cut however, true to her word she trimmed only what was needed. I booked the Textures Girl w/style online and the process was extremely easy. Once I arrived I was immediately greeted and saw how cute the salon was. They even have a sign welcoming new clients which is super cute and personable! I had an appointment with Da'Naisa. She sat me down for a brief consultation first to go over my concerns and then I was washed by an assistant. She did an amazing job and was communicative yet not too much throughout the was. Textures...an appropriate name for this hair salon because there is a stylist for literally every texture of hair whether your hair is relaxed, naturally curly, or loc'd. In January 2020, I decided to embark on a journey to loc my hair and was already connected to Mimi on social media. After watching her work for some time, I chose her to be my loctician. It just so happens that she works out of Textures. I love this salon! I'm always greeted when I enter even if everyone is busy. Everyone is friendly and you don't get that salon gossip that you may have experienced at other salons which is something I appreciate. During each visit, I am seen on time and it doesn't take all day to get my hair done. Usually, they offer water and snacks but that is currently on hold due to the pandemic. Speaking of covid, they take a lot of precautions to keep everyone safe including temperature checks, hand sanitizer station, and requiring everyone to wear a mask while inside the building. Getting beautified in this salon was the best! My daughter and I highly recommend it. Natural hair styling takes time and TLC, tender loving care. This salon was abundant in all three! Tenderly combing tangles from hair that had been finger combed for month prior. Tip: finger combing doesn't effectively detangle from the root, especially as your hands become fatigued. Thanks to the owner, Montoya and Aleya. Loving the dialogue, that was thoughtful and entertaining. My stylist, Taylor, was amazing. She focused on my hair and included everyone in conversations. Caring for our time is essential to me. Scheduling the appointment online was pain free. They also called to make adjustments when the schedule changed in a timely manner. We expected a room full of clients, but were happily surprised that the wait was minimal and times was allotted sufficiently. Today I got my hair braided by Emmy (@Emmazingbraids on instagram), and she did a great job. I came in for an 11 a.m. appointment after a long night, and i'm still not sure how I managed to stay awake, but i'm really glad that I didn't embarrass myself. Initially I contacted her, and explained how I was looking to try out a few different styles before my upcoming wedding. From there I sent her a few photos so that she got an idea of i'm guessing length and texture, and we scheduled and confirmed my appointment soon after. Today when I came into the shop I was greeted politely by the staff. The inside of the shop is very clean, and surprisingly spacious. I waited for Emmy to get to the shop because I had gotten there about 15 minutes early. She got there maybe 2 minutes later and immediately acknowledge me, and introduced herself. We went to the back area of the salon. She has her own private area where she sees her clients. Once we got situated, we went over what I was looking to do with my hair, and she got to it. The whole process took about a hour and a half, and when she was finished I was blown away. Though at the time I was just dragging myself through the day, and probably didn't come off as excited as I was. One big thing for me was that unlike other people that have done my hair, her braids didn't hurt as she did my hair, but they definitely felt tight (not uncomfortable) when she was finished. I also still can't figure out how she did so much in such little time. I'm not mad though... As far as the finished result, she couldn't have been any more on point. I told her at the beginning that I'm vanilla when it comes to certain things, and that I was looking to change things up. I went in with telling myself to be open minded, but came out wondering why I had been growing my hair for 2 years and only gotten straight backs and box braids...lol I sent some photos of my hair to my fiancee and she hit me with the heart eye smiley emoji..lol Needless to say, before I left I made sure to schedule another appointment. I booked an appointment online to get a weave done by Alexis. She wasn't the most warm person upon arrival but I was hopeful this salon wouldn't disappoint. She gave me some tips about health hair care at the wash bowl which is fairly standard. All went ok but when the service was finished, I noticed a bald area at the top. My HAIR IS NOT THIN AT ALL, but she just didn't leave enough out to blend with the weave. This wasn't the first time that I had received a weave, so it was all about her application. I pointed it out and she got an attitude immediately. I asked her what could be done. I am allll about solutions. She didn't seem to care though. She explained that I could buy some black spray at the beauty supply store. I had no idea what she was talking about. She had some and sprayed it in my hair and showed me the bottle. Mistakes happen, but her ATTITUDE was exceptionally poor and not customer focused or solution oriented. Her youth and lack of professionalism was apparent. All I was hoping for was for empathy and understanding and maybe a simple apology. Mistakes happen! How you respond and acknowledge is key. The manager apologized and acknowledged that she was new and that her behavior didn't reflect their core values. They said i could schedule an appointment to return to get it fixed by someone else, but I was going out of town and they stopped replying to my text messages. Sadly, I won't return. read more

I cannot say enough about how happy I am that I was able to find a salon so close to home. Black/woman owned, professional, friendly, relaxing. This salon feels like what all salons should. Very clean, modern and COVID aware. I also appreciate that hair wash and blow dry is a part of the booked service. I have only experienced the services of Emmy but I get a sense that all the stylists would recommend another in a heartbeat if that person specializes more in a style you're looking for. Back to Emmy, she has done my and my daughter's hair a few times now. From natural braids and twists to feed-ins to small knotless goddess butt length braids. Always punctual, friendly, making helpful suggestions and making you feel like you want to come back for your next style. If you're thinking of scheduling an appointment here please don't. I scheduled a trim and perm rod set. I received a perm rod set alright, but my natural hair was chopped off in the most distasteful way. When I emailed the salon about my dissatisfaction I was told they do not offer refunds and to come in for them to "fix the cut." How can the cut be fixed if my hair has been chopped off? The stylist is sticking to the narrative that we agreed for this amount of hair to be cut off which is a lie. I honestly should've gotten up and left the salon when the stylist proceeded to cut my hair with no product in its shrunken state. I found a natural hair salon and they are great!!! They are located down the street from me, which is awesome. The prices are reasonable too. Not a bunch of gossiping! I wasn't being juggled between 2-4 other clients. It was clean. Montoya didn't take a bunch of breaks when doing my hair. She scrubbed my head sooooo good. If I was a puppy my leg would have been kicking away. She was very knowledgeable and gave me good advice on the upkeep of my hair. She also told me about my hair as well. I just scheduled my next appointment. I have never felt my hair so flows and soft. It blew in the wind and fell right back into place. Best salon experience ever. Unfortunately I sweated my hair out. But the odd part is it's my ends and not my roots. I guess my hair was rubbing on my shoulders and neck when I went to the cherry blossom parade in dc. I really hate to do this...I have been natural my entire life and have always had waist length and beyond healthy curly natural hair. My husband scheduled an appointment for me as a gift at textures with Taylor. I wanted a wash, protein treatment and trim. I came in with 18 inches of hair on my head and left with 10! Taylor was very nice but she seemed pre occupied with helping another stylist color weave bundles...she washed my hair (was rough when she tried to de tangle I could hear my hair snapping) she then put in a protein treatment and put me under the dryer she left to bicker with other stylists about being educated and then to offer her coloring expertise to another stylist. Once I was done under the dryer Taylor asked if I wanted a silk press at first I was hesitant she was very persuasive and said "well don't you want to see all this length pressed out and smooth" I agreed to get a silk press. She then began combing through my hair and said "oh my god it's so tangly" I was thinking well you just rough it up by washing it (not using a raking motion but a circular motion) she started to blow dry RIPPING THROUGH MY HAIR WITH A PADDLE BRUSH again I could hear the snapping at this point I told her I did not want a silk press I was nervous she asked if I still wanted a trim I said yes (it had been 10 weeks since my last trim) I thought a trim was a easy stylist skill but I was mistaken another stylist commented "I had no idea she had all that hair when she came in with that bun" taylor said "I knowwww" She CUT inches and inches from my hair while I was turned away from the mirror when she turned me around she explained that me that my hair was "SO DAMAGED" so he had to cut that much off...she did not discuss this with me prior to trimming my hair she did not ask if it was okay my hair was not "SO DAMAGED and SO SEE THROUGH" it was a blatant lie. I paid and left with my hair unstyled. Once getting home I realized that she cut my hair uneven and choppy I go in touch with the owner via Instagram and asked for a refund for the cut only she said she would this was a month ago and I still have not received a refund for the cut. I've seen Taylor's color work and her silk press and blow out work and it looks great but I would not recommend this stylist for natural hair styling or trims at all! I was looking for a shop closer to my home but I will continue to travel to Virginia. read more

My daughter needed her natural curls cut. Her hair grew out and she just needed it cut back down to the original cut length. It is in a curly bob. I went online to book her appointment. The closest thing I could find was the Texture girl service of a wash and trim. There was no service listed online as a haircut. When I get there I'm told by the stylist that there is no time for a hair cut. So I say fine do what I booked. When I asked how I could have booked what I wanted, I was told that they prefer clients to call for haircuts - but nowhere on the website did it say, if you want a haircut, please call us. $74 later my child had her head washed, roughly blown out, and trimmed - no style. Her hair was just wildly blown out on her head. I am shocked that there is any service where the client leaves the salon with unstyled hair. I mean put some curls in it or something. Plus the trim messed up the shape of her cut; I learned when I went home to re-wet and style her hair. Also, she has sore spots on her scalp where she said the stylist put too much heat. I'm going to have to take her somewhere where they can do a good cut to curly hair and actually style hair. I'm really disappointed. read more
