Been going to them for about nine years (with a gap in between) and I've never received greater service than during my visit in the midst of the pandemic. My eye doctor, who I unfortunately cannot recall the name of during this time, is an older man who always seems genuine when he asks "And how are you today?" I truly believe he sees his clients as human beings rather than people who come to him for the yearly eye exams. If anything, the break I took from this office was due to the other staff who helped with the little "use this clicker when you see lines in your peripheral" or the "puff in the eye" machines (I apologize for not knowing the technical terms). Those staff members would often be impatient, talk bad about me to my other family members who were getting their eyes checked, and the lady who would usually help me find my glasses had the greatest poker face I've ever seen! Impressive for other businesses but it all made me feel like a burden for just wanting glasses! I had my eye exam yesterday and the front desk greeted me kindly and always spoke in soft tones from the front desk to the waiting room to the eye doctor himself. In a short time, many asked how I was doing, shared jokes, and seemed to forge a genuine human connection no matter how fleeting. I was surprised when instead of the usual one person to help pick my glasses, two workers stepped in to help suggesting various styles (and not expensive ones either! They checked prices to help me find low costs) and were honest about which glasses fit me best. I admit I might've given them a hassle with how many glasses I tried on (which they sanitize after use of every customer) but the ladies were sweet regardless. I couldn't be any happier with the staff. I highly recommend! Edit: Unfortunate that I wrote this while there. Overheard the staff discussing the comment and one mentioned I purposely chose too many glasses and TRIED to be indecisive. I would avoid this place if you are looking to purchases glasses. I paid hundreds of dollars for a pair with "high-index" thin lens that turned out way thicker and heavier than any of my other glasses with the same prescription. The processing and shipping of the glasses also took a long time. When I asked the staff about it, they had a very dismissive and rude attitude, saying there was nothing they could do. Overall attitude from the staff was that they could not care less, and made me feel very uncomfortable. I will stick with Warby Parker, where the staff are friendly and go out of their way to make sure their customers are happy! read more

I been seeing Dr. Lopez since I was a kid. I have been living off Highway 6 and Westpark(25-30 mins away) for the last four years and still go to him. He has kind of seen me grow up, but Is legit one of the few people I've grown up around who talk to me as an adult. Mind you, I'm 25 so I been an adult, but if you're a millennial, you know the older generation typically sees you as a kid, even when you're in your mid 20s. I've also had serious conversations about my career with him. All while getting my eye exam and having casual conversation. I have been going to this TSO for 20 years now. I really like Dr. Lopez, he's so nice and helpful. I went at the end of this year and I just noticed they have changed the staff in the front. I am very disappointed as they were not pleasant at all. The first time I came thru they were OK, but no happy smiling faces. Today I went and picked up my contacts, which they never contacted me to let me know they were in, I had to call them. No smiles, no warm welcoming feeling. When they gave me my contacts, they didn't offer/provide the contact solution they have in the last 19 years, I had to request. Not sure what happened to the young lady who was there before. She was happy and helpful and very nice. The new ladies seemed put off that they had to help a customer. Very disappointed they would hire these women as they are obviously not happy working there. read more

Nothing but problems with my glasses, "warranty" does not exist, manager is never in the office and doesn't return phone calls until you call the corporate office. Since they are a franchise, the corporate office doesn't offer support. They push extra stuff and dont stand behind their work. Paid extra for scratch and anti-glare, film for anti-glare came off in less than a year. Full story: I had my eyes examined elsewhere and brought my prescription in because they have a large selection of frames. When my glasses arrived I was excited, tried them on, then headed back to work. All day I kelt adjusting them and though I just had to get used to the bigger frames, but no-went I sat them down on of the ear pieces was a quarter inch off the table and the top above the lens was warped-like it was melted. Brought them in and they accused me of leaving them in my car. After 45 minutes of talking to them they agreed to replace the frames. I had the glasses for less than 24 hrs! I thought my problems were over until the anti-glare coating which cost extra came off months later. All of a sudden one lens was just rainbows everywhere. I took the glasses back in because we purchased the year warranty and they said I used it on the frames already! They sold me defective frames but used the warranty to cover it! I changed jobs and lost my insurance, they wanted full price to replace the lens that should still be under warranty. Went back and forth with them for months. MONTHS. The practice manager is always in vacation or not in. Never returned my call. After calling he corporate office they dropped the price to replace the lens, still cost over a hundred. read more

Called this morning to schedule an appt for an exam they went ahead and made one for his afternoon asked if they accepted care credit they told me no still kept the appt kept looking and doing that another TSO did take care credit so I went ahead and called to cancel my appt since I was going to a different location when I called the new office with my ima info they told me that this location had to cancel their authorization code in order for them to be able to pull up my eligibility info went ahead and call them back to ask them to do this they told me it was done already the new location called me later in the afternoon to tell me that they still hadn't cancelled the request called back to ask what was going on when the girl answered the phone she was extremely rude about the whole situation saying while you were talking I did it it's done taken care went ahead and called the other location just to be told that they still had not done it the lady at the other place was so kind that she told me she would contact them personally to take care of it imagine if that's how they are already acting when you are a new pt how they are once you already spend your money there!!!!!! Dr. Lopez did my eye exam. Very professional, and friendly. I needed to get another copy of my prescription. I had my exam about 6 weeks ago. I just called. Phone answered on 2nd ring by a very nice person, who listened to me, and get this, said I could pickup the copy of the prescription in 5 minutes. That is usually the time you spend trying to get through prompts, and then add the fact you are transferred several times, Would heartily recommend Texas State Optical and Dr. Lopez and his staff. read more

Started 5/20/2013 Crooks as far as the eye can see. Unfortunately due to their practices my eyes don't see worth a damn. It doesn't matter how your eyes really are they will give you the strongest eye blurring pair of glasses they have. My vision has gotten worse with every pair and it took a while to realize. Now i have a super thick lens on one eye and until last year it was my good eye. They put you in a dark room (that's good if I'm there only to see at night), press the big thing on your head so hard you feel like an X-Man, and to top it off the dude is closer to you than your lover. Each of those things go against how I would normally use my eyes in the first place. To them it's all about the money....TSO in general is the bottom of the barrel. I'll be checking with eye masters soon. Thank you Dr Lopez.....I've always needed an excuse to have someone shoot a laser in my eye and replace parts I was born with. Don't think you can go in and have a hand in it. You can tell them your old glasses were just right and the prescription doesn't need changing....you'll come out with a new one anyway and once again your eyes change how they work. I never thought I'd see the day when my left eye is clearer than the right. Sometimes i just close the right altogether. You can be sure Dr Lopez won't be in heaven working as a sight giving angel....not the way he taketh away. read more

I made an appointment here to get my eyes checked since it was close to home. During the appointment, Dr. Ring seemed to like to talk a lot more than do his job. I ended up being late to my next appointment due to chatty kathy. I gave my eyes a month to try and adjust to my new glasses, but my vision seemed to be worse when wearing them. I knew my prescription wasn't right. I made an appointment to go back and check the prescription and have my eyes re-examined. I ended up waiting over 25 minutes to be seen for my appointment, so I just left. The woman at the front desk who answers the phone seems to be lacking when it comes to customer service. She never says thank you over the phone and is extremely rude in person (heavy-set woman in front) I will never be coming back here again. Seems incredibly unprofessional and was the biggest waste of my time. Save yourself the trip and time and go somewhere else. read more

Wow, I'm very surprised at the reviews I've read.... I've only visited this location twice in the past couple of years, however both times I left completely satisfied, feeling well taken care of and valued. Both times I had the pleasure of being seen by Dr. Lopez who is AMAZING by the way. I haven't been back to see him since May 2017, but today I instantly remembered why I chose to come back and see him as I now no longer live in the area. He is very thorough, informative, takes time to ask questions as well as answer any that you may have! He is very personable, you can tell that he cares about you as a PERSON and PATIENT rather than just a "client". I will come back and visit him as long as he is at this location, even if I do live 15 minutes away from this location now. If you choose him as your go-to-guy, I promise you will not be disappointed! Dr. Lopez and Dr. Ring are both awesome. Both are very through and both have a great personality. Most of the staff seems to be patient with the exception of one lady. The african american lady loses her patience pretty quickly so be sure to get one of the other ladies to help you if you think that you are unsure of what you may want or you think that you will have a lot of questions. read more

Dr Lopez is awesome but I had a problem with 2 pairs of glasses. They lasted us 6 months before they broke. We were not wanting to really go any where during the pandemic so we waited. I had to glue mine for them to be usable. 2 months later we went to replace my son's glasses first and they replaced them no problem. The glue I had used gave out the following week and I went in to get them replaced. I was told I voided my warranty by applying glue. They manufacturer would not take them back. Well I tried to speak to the Dr Lopez and they said he would call me. No such luck. I drive 25 miles one way to go there. My wife has been going there for close to 40 yrs. When I married her she dragged me there so I had gone there for close to 20 yrs. Well, you lost my family as customers. I will definitely find somebody closer and just about anybody else is cheaper. Hopefully they have higher quality glasses or have more compassion if the glasses break during a pandemic. read more

Dr. Lopez is awesome!! The customer service in the store was terrible today though. I spent 160$ buying new contacts from Myecia who was very friendly and helpful. Afterwards I asked if they could adjust my glasses frames so they fit tighter. The older, skinnier gentleman took my glasses and tightened them. When he came back out he told me the lense was warped when he first got it. Not true. I walked in wearing the glasses and they were fine. I had to put in my sample contacts so I could drive myself home because the warp makes it impossible to see through one lense. I don't expect a replacement, it's an out of warranty adjustment, but don't lie to me. Then when I asked if they have my pupillary distance on file so I can order a cheap replacement frame online, he told me they would have to charge me.... if you don't know, anyone can measure it, all it takes is 10 seconds and a ruler with cm to measure pupillary distance, and they probably have it on file since I've been going there for the past decade. Although I love Dr. Lopez, I think this will be my last time visiting TSO. read more

I am so happy to use this opportunity to tell all that is in my heart, I was always rushed during my examinations and so I was very anxious . When I first went to Dr. LOPEZ I told him about my experience and he listened to me.I told him how I struggled with the examination because even once I came to a lens that was pristine I was so amazed that I was speechless and then the moment was gone. i would be out of the office and home before i was able to process what happened! Dr LOPEZ is my answer to prayer. I have been going to Dr LOPEZ for a few years now and I noticed that his patience and professionalism is the way he is . He explains what he is doing.Dr Lopez is very courteous to everyone. The staff seemed to be cloned from him. Everyone is very warm and kind I appreciate them so very much! This office changed my life I was stressed because I could not see.I packed it in with every other thing in my life. When this was eliminated loads of pressure fell off my shoulders.I was able to see my computer at work and work became easier and the beat go's on! i enjoy the night always but now I can see clearly! I had already been wearing contacts 10 years when I moved to Houston, and had a bad experience with the first place I went. This place forced me to change from the lenses I had worn for years, claiming the manufacturer wouldn't make them anymore soon, and when I immediately had trouble with terrible dry eyes and pain (which I had never had before) claimed the new ones were "better" for my eyes (silicone) and could not possibly be causing all these problems, I must just have dry eye. So I went to Dr. Lopez, who very honestly explained he had to fight for his customers to keep samples on hand (they are required to let you try out your RX before prescribing) of my favorite lens as the reps would prefer people switch to the more expensive ones. He also got me back into the correct Rx (they had made it too strong and he takes a lot more time during the vision exam to make sure you are comfortable). He takes into account my years of wearing lenses and, you know, having my eyes, to trust that I know what I am talking about if something feels wrong. He keeps track of complaints from customers with certain brands, even that the "sharper edges" or larger size of some bother people, and knows which direction to go if you seem to be one of those. He also takes into account personal concerns of wanting cheaper lenses, or shorter-wear ones if you don't clean them so well, or yes silicone if you don't take them out like you are supposed to and they don't bother you (which was not the case with me). Over five years later, I am still mostly wearing my old 'fav lenses and the manufacturer has decided they will keep making them as their "base" thanks to Dr.'s that listen to their patients. He did help me find some color lenses I like, and the ladies at the desk are helpful with getting the max out of insurance coverage. I can usually get an appointment in a week or so and they are open Saturdays, convenient location to do some shopping at Meyerland Plaza afterwards. Dr. Lopez always chit-chats a bit about how I'm doing (I think he keeps notes about people's jobs and whatnot just for that purpose) and I don't feel rushed. I have enough of a medical background, he will explain to me how my eyes are doing and what they are looking for. They also have an "air-puff" machine for like $25 extra that takes a picture of my eyes and lets me avoid dilating drops. My eyes recently stabilized enough to be eligible for Lasik, and he was very happy for me and let me know (I think I had mentioned wanting to get it someday a few years prior). read more

Dr. Lopez is a great eye doctor. I have required corrective vision wear since the second grade and have used TSO most of my life. Dr. Lopez is as good as it gets. He spends time with you, listens to your concerns, and tries to find the best fit for your lifestyle. He will also not hesitate to refer you to an ophthalmologist should you require it. I find the other people in the office to be okay to deal with, nothing really good or really bad. If you want in and out in a timely manner, Dr. Lopez is your guy. read more
