Although the hot dogs they are Famous for really ARE that good, I cannot get over how amazing my bacon cheeseburger was! One of the best I can ever recall eating, truly. And the chocolate milkshake was divine. The French fries are the hand cut style, exactly like I prefer. And the food comes out in 5-10 minutes! Service is efficient and friendly and the location really cool. Like a time capsule. Either sitting in a booth or dining at the counter, it's a really good experience. My buddy suggested we go here for lunch....88 miles each way. I thought he was crazy, but let's do it. We sat at the counter as all booths were taken. I am glad we did. I enjoyed watching the hustle and bustle of the workers from the cooks to the servers to the bussers. It all worked. Food came out within 5 minutes. Texas Hots were great. I got mine without onion. I also ordered a bacon cheeseburger, and it was somehow one of the best burgers I have ever had. The fries are the fresh cut (like Five Guys, but dare I say better?) option. Other stuff looked good too, but only so much room. A near four-hour round trip and we were in and out in about 25 minutes. I talked a different friend into making the journey next week! Avoided this place since I thought it was a unique hot foodie kind of place. Boy was I wrong. Nice traditional diner that services so much more. Staff was friendly, cooks were fast. Me and the wife looked for a place to eat lunch traveling in Wellsville. Found this place nestled on the Americana Main Street. What a jewel. The service and atmosphere was awesome. The food was delivered in a timely manner. I had the club sandwich with fries and my wife had the French toast. Even though this restaurant is famous special sauce not served anywhere else in the world we passed that up. A fantastic throwback restaurant which serves amazing Texas hots as well as breakfast and daily specials. The interior reminded me of my childhood going out to eat lunch with my grandmother. Just has that 60s early 70s style atmosphere. I had thought I ordered two Texas hots, a side of fries and macaroni salad, but when my plate arrived it was a 'garbage plate'. For those who don't know what a garbage plate is, it's macaroni salad and French fries topped with mustard then topped with two hot dogs and Texas hot sauce (like a meat/chili sauce) and onions. Still, the unique plate was amazing! Very tasty! My wife got the roast pork special with potatoes and gravy. Of course I tasted it! It was also great. I'm giving it 5 stars because our food was fresh, our waitress was nice and the overall appearance of the establishment was nice. My only complaint would be the fries; they use little 1/2-inch pieces of french fries because I guess most people order it covered in chili or cheese and would make it easier to eat that way, but if you're trying just to eat a fry it's a pain with all the little tiny pieces. read more

I moved away from the area quite some years ago, however like I said they are like family and any time I am home visiting I actually stop here before seeing my parents and other relatives. My wife's family lives in Wellsville and on occasion when we are visiting we will go out to eat. Almost always, our trips lead here. I am a huge fan of simple, fun, non-chain restaurants and have a specific leaning towards greasy, fried food joints. This place is all of that and more. I have had their hot dogs and hamburgers which are good, though they are famous for elevating them to another level by topping them with meat sauce, mustard and onions. It is usually busy, crowded, and somewhat loud. I don't hold any of that against them because their service is always friendly, relatively fast, and spot on. Whether as part of a group of 8 people or just the two of us, they have always taken care of us. Other people have had their salads, soups, and entrees and said that the food was good. Caution about the milkshakes: apparently they used to use flavored ice cream (strawberry, chocolate) but on a recent visit we were told they now use syrups for flavoring. If they don't taste as good as you remember, that might be why. This isn't fine dining but it is fun dining. read more

This restaurant has been a staple of Wellsville for 100 years, and every time we get company in town they asked to go get a Texas Hots! Let's see, highest rated for this area yet I have sat here for twenty minutes and still haven't received my drink. Not to mention I had to clean my table so I could sit at it. Oh wait, my food is finally here and I don't have my untensils. The service here is terrible. The Texas Hot is nothing special. Glad I didn't go with the burger as it is a thin morsel of meat. I had the roast beef sandwich which was fine. Did I mention the service here was terrible? After sitting down at out table she attended to the table next to us and behind us two times each before we finally corralled her. Claim she didn't "see us". I grew up around Wellsville and Texas Hot was the small town restaurant to eat at. Honestly i loved it, but once moving away and experiencing better food, my taste buds just don't agree. The food is bland, and all the same color, brown. The only upside to the food are the milkshakes, which still win my heart. The menu is super outdated, there are items on the menu people probably don't even eat anymore; definately time for an update. It is super cheap so prices aren't an issue. Service is friendly, but at the same time a little rushed since it is so busy and small, the waitresses want you in and out. All in all if you are still in the small town mindset and eat WNY food on the reg you will probably like it; if you have experienced real quality food than you may not see much too the place. read more

My siblings and I came here while we were in Wellsville for a few days. We spent summers here visiting our grandparents and remembered this iconic restaurant fondly. Today, however, we are not as fond of it. Texas Hot claims to have a hot dog, called "The Famous Texas Hot," that is "famous for many, many miles." That is probably in large part because there are many, many miles of nothingness around this little town. The hot dog actually had to be removed from our table because my sister found it nauseating. She later went to the bathroom to floss her teeth and rid herself of any remnants of the Famous Texas Hot. It should be famous for being expired! That aside, the malted milkshake was terrific. We also ordered the Greek Salad, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Western Omelette and the Hot Roast Beef Sandwich. Everything was average at best--I could probably have made dishes just as good on my own. If Ya'll want to step back into time and get a feel for what it was like to go to a juke joint after school in the classical 50's and 60's era, go here. I moved to Texas three years ago so I do not know if this place has changed since then, my review is based on my last time there. It is in a small building space on Main Street in Wellsville. You can watch the cooks from the street, and see the waitresses busily tend to tables, bus, and repeat. The booths have a small juke box so you can select an oldie but a goodie to set the mood. The folks that go here are mostly comprised of local regulars. With that being said- if you are not one to frequent this place often, you are not treated with the same smiles and banter as the rest. The waitresses, were mostly older women, I am sure tired as hell from being on their feet all day- rush you to order, place it, put it in front of you,,,,,and move on. On a cleanliness scale, well come on, you don't come here for cleanliness. You go here to try the famous Texas Hots, which were never a favorite of mine. Nathan's hot dogs all the way for me. Texas hots has a secret chili sauce that makes them unique. I know there's cinnamon in there. I just don't care for it. Most people order their Hots, fries and a milk shake. The milk shakes are nothing to write home about. They do have other dishes and daily specials, again....not much to brag about. What I can say- their pies........their homemade pies are WONDERFUL! I discovered their banana cream pie when I was pregnant with my last daughter. My husband and I would walk to Texas Hot almost every night near the final days of my pregnancy, because i had to have that pie. My absolute favorite pie! The other pies are good, but the banana cream....my favorite. You can get a lot of food, typical greasy spoon sort of food, and pay next to nothing. Cheap food and a well known eatery in Wellsville.
