Definitely better than our last visit. We got the roost burger with everything it has to offer. The meat was dry and a bit overcooked. We were not able to change the temp of the burger, they all apparently they all are cooked medium well. The toppings were good. I was surprised to see that the burger was $15 and the tots were an additional $3. I was under the impression that it came with a side for the $15. Not a big deal really. The beer selection is lacking in the craft beer category. Long ago when the roost opened they had so many cans of craft beer. Maybe they've adapted to what more people want. So visiting Wellsboro for the week , a town that reminds me of Bedford Falls. Had one night to myself and after much research decided to grab dinner at the Roost . My server was Antoinette who was both informative and friendly . Went for the French onion soup and a Chefs Smash Burger. The food came out rapid fire . Just about all at the same time . A pause would have been nice . The onion soup was different . They use pumpernickel bread . The soup was heavy on that bread to the point where I thought it dominated the soup . I don't know if I'd order it a second time . The burger was perfectly cooked made smash burger style .They get the bun from a local bakery and it was very good . Maybe brioche but I could be wrong . It was a good touch . The meat maybe could have used more seasoning but a solid choice and the tots were good as well. I also opted to try the onion rings and they were really great . After dinner I tried one of their ciders and struck up a great conversation with Sean the bartender who is a true mixologist with a passion for cooking . What I truly loved about the place , besides the staff was the ambience . The lighting and decorations and just the dam vibe of the joint was really inviting . Food was excellent- mac and cheese with wings, pork southern quinoa bowl, and pork tacos...and rosemary aoli fries. Entered restaurant on a Sunday evening with my wife and two daughters. We. Were seated timely and drinks were brought out to us. We ordered a pork belly Brie bites. Leading with the word "Pork Belly"" is being generous. It pretty much was bread chips with a very small piece of pork belly and a lot of fig jam and a blob of brie cheese. If you like Pork Belly this dish is not for you. Sadly the portioning was very very skimpy. The 6OZ sirloin steak i ordered with steak fries was average at best. Steak slightly over cooked. A side of onions went for 3.49 in addition to the 20 dollar price tag of the steak. One daughter got the chicken masala needed additional sauce as the flavor was very thin. A flatbread was ordered which again lacked real good flavor. Short on the topping which would have solved the flavor problem were missing. Interior was nice. Service was fine. This place needs to put more money into the food servings and less into the decoration. Would go back in a pinch, but don't expect a great food experience. read more

If I want to read a book, I'll go to the library. This trip in, we had a salad with chicken. The chicken was under cooked, we sent it back to the kitchen only to have it returned and we were told the dressing made it look undercooked. We removed the chicken, put it on another plate and ate the salad. This was an 18.00 dollar salad. We ordered a 10.00 special cocktail off the drink menu, it was undrinkable. Our group of 6 adults, young and old, stopped in for a late lunch after hiking at the Grand Canyon of PA. This is a really cool, vintage vibe bar. On a Thursday afternoon, the place was not busy. My wife and I ended up eating here twice in two days! I ate the Vegabond vegan burger and fries and my wife had the gluten-free chicken wings on the first night. I also tried a couple of their bourbons (Blue Note and Nulu) and my wife got a smoothie. The staff were friendly and attentive. This might be wordy, but it's worth the read and meant to only help the business thrive and improve. We don't head to Wellsboro as much as we should when we decide to go out to eat, but since all the buzz recently that The Roost got for being featured on the Roadshow--America's Best Restaurants, we decided we needed to check it out. We visited this past Friday night for dinner, expecting it to be busy, which it was, but we were able to be seated right away. The place is small but laid out nicely, and the décor is exceptional--a very cool atmosphere! We were impressed by the refined look of everything right down to the menus. The hostess was very pleasant upon seating us, but our server might have been fairly new at the gig because he lacked in areas that are very important when waiting tables, drink service being one of those. We weren't provided any glasses for water, although a half-empty water pitcher was sitting on our table when we were seated. The drinks we ordered came out timely and were very delicious, but our glasses sat empty for a while before the hostess asked if we wanted any refills or to order something else. The bartender did an excellent job at making my margarita, and my husband enjoyed the beer selection. Our daughter ordered the strawberry lemonade, and that was also good. We ordered an app (fried pickle chips--YUM), and they came out timely as well; however, we weren't provided any small plates, silverware, or even napkins to ration out the app, so we allowed them to cool in the dish they were brought in. I had to snag our server and ask for those things and napkins; it was because they didn't have any small plates available at that time... finally, about 15 minutes later, our server brought us small plates, but I told him to use them for another table because the app was almost gone by this time. We received our meals approximately an hour after ordering. My husband and I ordered the NY Strip Steak entree with pricey add-ons of mushrooms and onions, and the meal came with a potato choice and sad roasted asparagus. I asked our server where the steaks were from, and he said he'd ask the chef. After asking him a second time, he returned to let us know the steaks were from Nebraska. I was a little disappointed that they weren't locally sourced. Besides that fact, the steaks were good and cooked as ordered; however, the asparagus needed help! Both of our sides were mostly thin, woody pieces of asparagus stalk that really should not have made the plate; we each only had a couple of tender spearheads that were good, but for the price of the dish, the entire side should be pleasantly edible. I had the dauphinoise potatoes, but my husband can't handle dairy very well, so he opted for french fries. Both potato sides were good; however, they were very small in portion size for the price. Our daughter ordered The Marg (margherita-style flatbread pizza). It was ok; however, the basil was dried up and wilted. Basil should be added after cooking so that it is green and fresh. The sauce/cheese combo was a little on the sweet side but still edible. Overall we felt that The Roost prices were a tad high for what we were presented with, and the service needs some improvement. The vibe of the restaurant atmosphere and décor was the most impressive thing about it. We won't totally disregard going back in the future, hoping that improvements are made; however, we've eaten at other local establishments for the same higher-end price but had a much better experience overall with better taste quality, portion size, and overall service. read more

During a recent getaway in Wellsboro, PA we were happy to stumble across a restaurant that had only been open for 3 weeks, but had already received stellar reviews. And, well these reviews didn't lie. The Roost had a great vibe, unique selection of food items, and very reasonable prices. And being smoke-free is a huge plus, which I no longer even considered to be an issue until visiting Wellsboro. In NJ, there is no smoking in any public place, so we were surprised to see a number of other establishments in Wellsboro allow smoking. We ordered the Street Tacos and the Vegabond burger. Both were delicious. I was especially impressed by the Vegabond - a vegan burger made from sweet potato, black bean and rice. Vegetarian and vegan options are usually "butchered" by most restaurants, but this was one tasty burger and the accompanying tots were a nice treat. Our waiter was so friendly and pleasant and we learned he was originally from the New Hope, PA area not too far from Princeton. We even got in a game of Ms. Pacman! read more

Visiting this cute old town for a work event. Restaurants here usually close early but this particular evening we were lucky at 8:30 to be let in and waited on at the bar. My husband ordered the burger medium (came out well) he said it was ok and the tors were over deep fried. My spinach steak salad would've been a lot better if it didn't have the steak on it. We stopped in for lunch and were blown away. For an appetizer we had the huge plate of samurai tarot tots which were outstanding.
