The worker was so friendly and made easy conversation with me. Ambiance is nice and on the corner with few parking spots. Great service, though I'm unsure if this complaint is really valid considering I got the cone from the vendor at the Del Mar fair. To be frank, this may be my own fault, so note to self: ask if the dips have any sugar alternatives before I order. It's been 3 hours and I'm still in severe discomfort and pain. Glaze wasn't too sweet either. They threw in one regular donut and a few donut holes with one of our Texas donuts. If you're looking for standard donuts and donut holes, I don't recommend them at all. Donut holes were extremely sweet and dry. Regular donuts were more dense than fluffy. I have never been more impressed with a donut shop in my life! So first off the gentleman behind the counter calls everyone "My friend" and has the most energetic and welcoming demeanour, the woman behind the counter is just as sweet. This is more than just a donut shop, they have an extensive menu with burgers, sandwiches, chilli cheese fries, Boba tea, Ice cream, and one of the biggest donuts I've ever seen. It's only $11!!!! It could seriously feed a family of 4. I saw a "Grand Re-opening" sign so I'm assuming the place has been renovated recently, and it is BEAUTIFUL!!! Everything is so clean and modern. Came here for the first time a week ago after work and I'm back again. I came in when they opened at 4:30 and I put in an order and came back for it an hour later and it was fresh and hot. I drove across LA because I needed a last minute "Texas Sized" donut and this was the only place that regularly stocked them without a preorder. It's tucked into an old strip mall, much like what you'd expect from an old school mom and pop donut shop. The Texas Donut was advertised on the menu as $7 or $8 plus you'd get to select a regular sized donut for free. What really rubbed me the wrong way about this place is that they charge me $1 more than the advertised price and also popped in random, dry donut holes instead of allowing me to select a regular donut. I'm not in the business of nickel and diming a small business, especially in a rough area so I didn't make a stink about it. I do think that's a shady business practice, especially since I believe I was "upcharged" because I looked like I could afford it. Anyhow, this place is exactly what you'd think of when you picture an old, LA donut shop. Kinda dingey and looks like it hasn't been updated in 20+ years (but that's what we love about these places). I was looking to make a donut cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday and came across Texas Donuts. I stopped by one morning to take a look at the Texas donut and see if they could make rainbow sprinkle donut holes. The lady at the counter was very friendly and said they could make a rainbow sprinkle Texas donut and rainbow sprinkle donut holes. I ordered two Texas donuts and four dozen donut holes for the following week, then took some donut holes and croissants to work. The donut holes were super fresh and my jalapeno, ham and cheese croissant was chock full of jalapenos and very tasty. This morning, I picked up my order to assemble my daughter's donut cake. It was ready when I arrived. I also bought a few croissants for my daughter's teachers and my coworkers. The donut cake came together beautifully and everyone raved about the ham and cheese croissants. I live in DTLA, so Texas Donuts is a little out of the way for me, but I will definitely be stopping by from time to time. For the most part, it seems to be a neighborhood donut shop, where the locals stop by to get their morning coffee/tea and some donuts. They have parking in front, but you either need to back into the spots, or back out into the street when you leave. What I was also impressed was their many fruits and veggie juices. Their juice comes straight from all natural ingredients like pineapple, apples, kale, celery, tomato, orange, beets, etc. You won't find juice pellets or canned fruits here. Owners work more than 12 hours a day. That's dedication. Parking is very limited. Next door is a Metro office so if you need to load up your tap card, it would be two birds with one stone. read more

3.5 stars Had this spot bookmarked as one of the top LA donut spots, so when I was driving back from a course I took in Long Beach, I stopped in to check it out. It's a small unassuming place. The big donuts are huge and super fun, I got a chocolate one. I also got a maple donut for my dad and a cinnamon roll for mom. I tried some of the chocolate one and it was good, but not mind blowing. Just a good donut, fluffy, good flavor, the way a donut should be. But nothing spectacular and no reason to stop in again or go out of my way. Donut Man donuts are better in my opinion (though perhaps a slightly less fluffy donut). I can see why others said they are pushy; it's definitely a cultural thing, but it was a bit annoying that she kept telling me I should buy 2 or 3 big donuts even after I repeatedly said i only want one. She was super nice though. I did ask for my donuts to go and she put the big one in a typical donut box and the other two shoved into the same small bag. When I got to my parents' and took it out of the bag a bunch of the maple glaze was stuck to the bag because she put two in one bag, so that was annoying. So 4 stars for the donut but subtract a half point for pushy employee continually trying to get you to buy more and then not packaging the donuts well. read more
