Inside vibes. Patio also an option.

Perfect spot to grab a steak and a bottle of wine. Very friendly owners and staff are always ready to help in any way. Amazing local community spot.

By far the best butcher shop in my area...in Austin! Please check out their website. They carry only the highest quality proteins sourced from the best local providers. Perfectly packaged and ready to go. Special requests welcomed. They also carry specialty cured meats, have a nice bottled wine selection, and other treats. All perfect for your next charcuterie board feast! Local grocers pale in comparison to Texas Beef Traders. I simply cannot say enough great things about TBT. :D The proprietor and supporting staff are all very well versed in cut and cookery, and could not possibly be anymore friendly. A+++ customer service! Located in a very quaint space where, in addition to retail sales, they host special in-house tasting nights, wine pairings, other various events (more to come; currently in reorg). I very much look forward to visiting and hanging out for a bit. Cheers to only expecting the best and settling for nothing less. Tell Darren I said "hi!"

I had heard of this place not too long ago, and I finally was able to check them out. I spoke with Darren, (I believe that is his name) He gave me so much information about the ranchers, how the meat is processed and brought to the store. They offer a lot more too. There is wine, and they have tastings on the weekends. They have seasonings and sauces, sparkling drinks and a sangria making kit, and a few other things. I will most definitely come back. So happy I was told about this place.

I also wasn't much of a meat eater back in those days, so I mostly had tried their sides. Now we're both on keto, so we go for just the meat. The meat was some of the best I've had lately! If I had one criticism, the brisket was just the slightest bit dry, but it had the perfect amount of fat to still make it taste good, and the smoky flavor was perfect! The turkey was moist, and probably my favorite part of the meal. We didn't order sides, but the included pickles were better than standard. It was rainy when we went there, so everyone was packed inside. There were barely enough tables. Their outside seating is not covered. There was no line, and my husband had finished our order by the time I had shaken out my umbrella. The air conditioning was a little too cold for a rainy day. The parking lot is all designated handicapped parking, but we got street parking right next to the building. Since we live on the east side, Micklethwait is convenient, and it has earned a place among our favorite places to go eat!

I thought it was odd that they would be closed on weekends when people have the time to shop along with being closed before people get off work. But those hours make sense when you realize they produce for distribution, not dine in. There's almost 30 reviews so far, but I was surprised that not a single one of them included any photos. If you're coming to this part of town, parking is always a concern in this area. The good news is that there are about eight places to park at here, otherwise you'll have to park in the street, but at least there's no kiosks. As soon as you pull in, the air is filled with that familiar smoky aroma. However, once you step inside, you suddenly realize that this is not a place you can dine in. Basically the first 10 feet of hallway is where the customer service takes place. There is a cold case with all of their sausages on display, including a little beef jerky, and that's it. I have to admit I wish they had brisket and ribs too. They do make a tamale-based sausage for Christmas as a seasonal item. The prices are very reasonable and there is no tip screen. This is not just a grab and go operation, their sausages can be found in virtually every H-E-B. So the good news is that you can find them here or at your favorite H-E-B. Check out the nine photos included.

Absolutely abysmal experience…read more I purchased a whole pig to roast for a charity fundraiser. Called a month in advance to secure product. Checked in weekly on pick up date but especially pick up condition, (fully thawed). A few days before pick up i was informed they picked the pig up early and there was a risk of spoilage if it wasn't refrozen. Complete shock as we had spoken twice that very week and that was never mentioned. I said if they needed to freeze the pig in the meantime to ensure quality, fine but I still needed it thawed on pick up. Pick up= associate can't locate the animal, price was not what we agreed to, and they found it "in the very back corner of the freezer". Counter associate said "I just work here, they don't tell me anything" Needless to say, working with Hudson meat market was the biggest mistake. Even with over communication on my part, they just couldn't have cared less.

We've had a few deer processed there over the years and I can say this last one we dropped off in January for youth season was disgusting. But unfortunately the BBQ, which should be the star of the show, just didn't quite hit the mark for me. I came in hoping to try one of their lunch specials, only to find out they had recently discontinued them. I almost left but the staff kindly honored the deal anyway, which definitely turned things around in the moment. I ordered the chopped beef sandwich with garlic parmesan fries. While the food wasn't bad, it lacked the depth of flavor I expect from Central Texas BBQ. Even with sauce it didn't deliver that rich smokiness or bold seasoning I'm used to. That said, maybe I just chose the wrong dish. Their menu does have some intriguing options like crispy duck, ribs, an elk burger, and a full bar. I might give them another try during happy hour or if I'm nearby, but I wouldn't make a special trip just for the BBQ.

Pickles and red onion were a nice touch. Overall, a different spot than the norm and worth a visit. Prices are by the half pound and generous.

Got a spot right up front which happens to be the entrance to the butcher/shop area. Nice sign directed me to the rear of the restaurant for the host and was sat immediately for my 6:15 reservation as I arrived early around 6pm. Jordan was the person taking care of me and they did a wonderful job. Great recommendations. Started with the grilled shrimp and they were tasty and I can't put my finger on what made it taste different. Perhaps the lime zest? Devoured those quickly. Next up was the antelope leg and y'all ain't never had it before but would order it again. Cooked amazing, easy to eat and those fries?!? Bye, just bye. I could do a whole plate of those and not bat an eye. Dessert was the basque cake and as anticipated fell inline with the rest of the meal. As you can see no plate (even the shrimp) was returned with something on it. Sooooo good. If you're looking for a new place to try, do it.
