Nice place, found another great cocktail lounge/bar. A cute tiki-inspired bar. The drinks are very creative and all the mixes are well combined. The bartender is knowledgeable and was very helpful in helping me decide what to try. The drinks here are carefully made and infused inhouse. With some drinks taking up to 3 days to make. The Millenial Falcon Fizz was so light and easy to drink, I could probably have a whole pitcher to myself, it's dangerously good. Heeling in Barbados was really good as well, its an expresso martini!! It was good order if your into coffee beverages. Oaxacan Dead was really good, the mezcal was not to strong or Smokey-like normal, It is well mixed so you can enjoy the flavors. The Buccaneer (which is usually served in a coconut but they ran out) was pretty good and refreshing This bar is affiliated with a few different bars in the area as well The Good Lion being one of them. read more

Hip vibe, open late, very interesting drink menu that leans sweet. I enjoyed the titular drink, the Test Pilot, especially since it had absinthe foam; I couldn't really taste the promised clove, though. Bartender said it was the most dry of their drinks. Only real " meh " were the bathrooms. The establishment was so busy that I couldn't fully appreciate the place, but I noted that it's worth a return visit. read more

I LOVED this place! I arrived during happy hour on a Friday when it was empty, so I got to really absorb the atmosphere and chat up the staff. The vibe is more tropical than tiki, and the drinks are totally legit. I had a great daiquiri and absolutely ADORED my frosé. As soon as 6 p.m. hit, it started to get really busy with what seemed like an after-work crowd -- some of whom were more beer drinkers and less cocktail fans. But the vibe was still good and the bartenders could keep up no problem. I really wish I lived much closer so I could come here much more often! read more

Came here on a Saturday night and it was pretty packed. The bar was pretty small, with not too many seats, but the service was great. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. We tried two drinks. The Juice Box had a very citrusy taste. It wasn't too strong, but it also wasn't too sweet. We also tried the Thai Iced Tiki, which had a super strong rum flavor. However, the boba on top didn't really go well with the drink, and it was hard to eat them. Overall, the Thai Iced Tiki wasn't as enjoyable as we thought it would be. read more

Was recommended this place by a local. Love the vibe and selections of everything. Because the sun was coming out I decided to go for one of their slushes and went with their seasonal. It was a nice Ube pina colada type and I absolutely loved it. So many places to check out in the area, but this one is a must since it's different from the others being a tiki bar. read more

This bar was my favorite in Santa Barbara! They had great tiki drinks and the place is nicely decorated with super friendly staff. I didn't know what to order and the bartender was very knowledgeable and helpful in finding a drink that I would like. The service was amazing and fast, and our drinks were delicious and super cute! I loved the serving cups and variety of options they had. I can't wait to come back the next time I'm in Santa Barbara! read more

We stopped in by accident as we were trying to go to the spot next door (a winery), but it was a good accident as we hung out for a bit, had a couple drinks and enjoyed the time. Service was friendly! They serve tiki inspired cocktails here with all sorts of flavors across the board; so if you're into that or open to it, all should be well. You can find drinks made up of rum, vodka, bourbon, mezcal, and several more options. I had the Ken-Tiki Kentucky which has bourbon, navel orange, Madagascar vanilla, lemon, citrus bitter, and nutmeg. Definitely a lot of flavors and aromatic qualities were going on here, but it made for a great drink. Seating was outside and made up of some tables and stool style seating. read more

We were happy to see that this bar was open despite it seeming that the town goes to bed early. Because of COVID, everything was outdoor seating, which was fine for us since the weather was nice and they had patio heaters to keep guests warm. This drink is a rum based bar. They have a menu dedicated to MANY different types of rum plus a variety of different tiki bar drinks. All of the drinks that we had were delicious and the service was great. It was a Thursday night, so it looked like they only had one server, but he was hustling and making sure every table was well taken care of. I got to see the inside while en route to use the bathroom and loved the interior,. I only wish we were able to have experienced it from the inside. I went in the afternoon on Saturday of Memorial Day weekend with 3 friends. There was a bit of a wait, but it wasn't too long (idk maybe 20 minutes, we we're talking in line and already buzzing from Modern Times, so this timing may not be accurate). I'm typically not a fan of tropical drinks, unless I'm somewhere on a beach with one in hand. However, the drinks at Test Pilot are unique in its offerings (ie: Thai Iced Tiki) and proved to be strong as hell! There aren't many seats inside, but probably for the best as this place gets packed as soon as its doors open! I would recommend coming in on the weekend in the afternoon, as a DJ comes in to hype up both the Paradise Springs Winery and Test Pilot crowds. read more

The best tiki bar in Santa Barbara! The bartenders are always so friendly and we've been able to buy collectible tiki mugs each time we've been. Drinks are tasty and not too expensive for a tiki bar. Not a ton of seats at the bar but there is other indoor seating along with a nice outdoor area. There was a food truck next door and public parking nearby. read more

This space is so fun and unique! They have so many drink options, everyone will be able to find something that they like. We tried the Passion Fruit Mule, Piña Colada (no longer on the menu but I asked if they'd make it), Oaxacan Dead, Loose Cannon, and the Bananacapa. They were all great! The loose cannon is super strong and not like a cutesy mixed drink. The wait was a little long but the staff was great and attentive even though they seemed to be a little short staffed. Visited during a covid road trip - service was solid & enjoyed the drinks enough but wish they were stronger. After having 3 cocktails each, both of us were not feeling the alcohol at all unfortunately. Makes sense why the drinks are on the cheaper side at ~$12 a cocktail. Flavor combinations and balance of the drinks were well composed. Their signature namesake drink had a absinthe foam that seemed gimmicky but ended up being the highlight. My favorite was the kentiki kentucky which toed the line of savory with a heavy hand of fresh grated nutmeg. read more

First of all, Emiliano who helped us out here is AWESOME! Such great recommendations from this dude and he had such great vibes. The drinks I got here were all tasty: - Hotel Nacional Special (a little tart, but still sweet and refreshing - Passionfruit Daquiri (not as good as the other ones but still tasty) - Juicebox (my favorite!!! Such a nice, sweet, refreshing summery drink) The zombie is good if you like black licorice. I also liked their coffee cocktail that was their spin on an espresso martini (tastes like coffee hard candy). Would recommend! read more

Great cocktails located in the Funk zone!!! Cool bar to get some cocktails, if you're not in the mood for wine. They do have a tiki theme on inside from what I could see. Ordered: Passion Fruit Mule - vodka, passion fruit, ginger, lime, bitters, vanilla and soda ($11) Ken-tiki Kentucky - bourbon, navel orange, madagascar vanilla, citrus bitter and nutmeg ($12) Both drinks were really good and tasty! Also, when I went on a Saturday that had a guy cooking fresh pizza to order. Not entirely sure if it's every Saturday? PLUS they do cocktails to-go WITH purchase of food. Their tables are outside and spaced appropriately for safety reasons. At night they only have candles at the tables. I wish there was more lighting/heat lamps as it gets pretty dark out. read more

Drinks were amazing. We tried the House OF and the Ken Tiki Kentucky. Both were absolutely phenomenal. Mirod, (sp) gave us a sample of the Boozy Slushy Painkiller. So good. Love the Tiki Bar vibe and playlist. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Santa Barbara's Funk Zone. read more

Fun environment + tasty drinks make for a great time. If you find yourself wandering around the Funk Zone and you're not in the mood for wine tasting, stop by Test Pilot for a cocktail instead. This tiki-inspired bar is located on the corner of Helena and E Yanonali, close to Loquita and Captain Fatty's Brewery. It's right next to Paradise Springs Winery. There's a small lot out front, but it was converted to outdoor seating when we visited. Public parking is available next to The Waterman hotel, near the Amtrak station, and behind the State Street Visitor Center. Parallel parking is also an option if you can find a spot. Passion Fruit Mule - vodka, passion fruit, ginger, lime, bitters, vanilla, and soda. Out of all the drinks, our group enjoyed this one the best. The flavor was a balanced blend of tart and sweet. The garnish on top is cute and photo-worthy. Just don't try to eat it... Thai Iced Tiki - Thai tea-infused bajan rum, coconut creme, passion fruit pearls, lemon, trinidad bitters, and caribbean allspice dram. A strong drink to me personally, with a nice spicy kick to it. The popping boba was tasty, but I wasn't given a wide straw for it. I have yet to come by during the evening, but I'm sure it's even more lively! read more

Strong Tiki drinks, delightfully crafted with love and attention to detail. Be it a Friday night or a Sunday funday, the atmosphere is simultaneously chill, hip, and upbeat (hard to explain I know). I personally like the Purple Mai Thai, but the Oaxacan Dead will also leave you plenty buzzed and enjoying the vibe on the streets of SB for the remainder of your day. LOVE this bar! We arrived in Santa B and went here for our first night. We were all in town for a friends wedding and on the first night out they had invited us all to Teat Pilot. The staff were amazing with our crew. They gave us the more private room to the side for all of us to gather and they were making epic tiki bar drinks that were strong af! The bar was busy but it had a great vibe to it! Definitely more of a millennial crowd vs. College crowd. The ambience was great and the drinks were tasty! They let us hang out and be as loud as we wanted all night and overall it was a killer first night! Sadly no pics! read more

Excellent rum bar. The bartender, Max, helped us out in selecting some great drinks. He had some excellent knowledge regarding the rum and he helped me get over, what I now realize, was an unfounded distaste in rum. Who knew Captain Morgan is not indicative of a whole category of alcohol!! The backbar selection is also really nice. Will definitely be back next time I visit. read more

I'm a sucker for anything Tiki themed so when my crew stumbled across the Test Pilot we ended up staying the rest of the night! The Test Pilot has a more relaxed vibe than most SB bars and in my humble opinion, drinks that I tend to gravitate to. The bartenders were quite attentive throughout the night and were pumping out tasty drinks regardless of how busy they were. Also, since Test Pilot is more State Street adjacent, there was plenty of different spaces to hang out and lounge about. The outdoor space is also a great place to congregate which is quite enticing with all of the social distancing concerns. Although the décor may not be cheesy Tiki, the drinks are up to par and definitely work for me. Looking forward to our next outing to the Test Pilot! read more

This place is okay, pretty pricey and while we were there during regular hours they seemed like they were having a staff meeting or something so it seemed like we kinda inconvenienced them. The drinks were okay- they have a decent rum selection but I would be 50/50 if asked to revisit. read more

Syrup forward drinks. Recommend you going to The Good Lion for more balanced cocktails. Test Pilot is one of the only cocktail places in the Funk zone where many hang out late at night. There are limited seating indoors but tables outdoor. The two bartenders are busy making cocktails and weren't really sociable. I suppose they were making an attempt on their take of a tiki bar. read more

My hubby and I stopped by here yesterday (coincidentally during happy hour!) on our only night in Santa Barbara (we're driving up to Napa as part of our honeymoon and had just gotten off a long flight from Fiji. We wanted somewhere fun but kinda low key. Test pilot was perfect! The drinks were delicious and reminded us of our time on that beautiful island but also made us happy to be back in the US. My hubby got two spicy margaritas(available as mild/med/hot which he got hot both times)and I got the happy hour Mojito (yummy) and then the bartender made my a "not too sweet refreshing gin cocktail". The drinks were great and the vibe was great. It's a cute little tiki bar with a little area that has a swing (we didn't take up that area but seems like it would be fun with a group). The bartender is the sweetest person we met! I forgot to ask for her name but we told her we were only in SB for one day and that we're driving up to Monterey and she went out of her way to make a list on places to stop by on our way up. The patio is in the back of Cutler's that can be entered around the corner (map on the front door of Cutler's shows the directions). The patio is next to other tasting room patios featuring wine and next door to Lark's restaurant. When we visited the tasting room at about 3pm in the afternoon, we were the only individuals there but started to fill up with other small groups. When a large group entered, the waitress said you will need a reservation as she was only wait staff there. Perhaps a sign is needed to notify people, that groups need reservations. The drinks were spot on- the drinks started at 14 dollars to about 16 dollars for cocktails. The tasting room also offers tastings of their products too. The tastings looked small. The cocktails were well poured. I was just disappointed to find out that I could not get a Bloody Mary on a Saturday- only Sundays- the Bloody Mary looked really good. If you are done with wine, and seeking something different, come relax on the patio here if your vibe is a low key environment with solid distillery cocktails.

The management here is terrible. There was six of us and we found a table and sat down outside. Two of the gentlemen in our group (70 year old Vietnam vets with a service dog) went in to buy drinks for our group. Beers were purchased at Test Pilot and a bottle of wine was purchased at the business next door. When they got back to the table, our waiter came and let us know that you could not drink anything from the business next door in their seating section. We said, ok we weren't aware of the rule since all the tables outside look like they were shared by both businesses. The gentlemen went back in to cancel the wine and they had already opened it. They were nice enough to let him take an unopened bottle in exchange so we could take it home. On his way out, the server gave him a very small free taste of wine and he brought it to the table. Our waiter reminded him he could not have any drinks from the place next door. He responded, that it was a gift, but no problem and drank it in one swallow. All of these exchanges were professional and polite on both sides. A few minutes later a manager with an attitude came to the table and asked if we had drank anything from next door. We started to explain what happened, and he yelled "IT'S A YES OR NO QUESTION!" We responded yes, and he demanded we leave and we did. There was no signage, no distinction between businesses as they share a parking lot. Covid restrictions make everything more difficult for everyone. This business could have been more compassionate in the misunderstanding, however his ego made no room for compassion. Too bad these 2 men sacrificed so much for this guy to treat them like 2nd class citizens. I would never go here again. I hope the owner of this establishment sees this and takes action. This was unacceptable. read more

Coworkers and I visited The Test Pilot on a busy Friday night. This place was packed and the bar was busy. The bartender, Suzy, was hand crafting mixology and talking with guests. It was too loud for me to yell to get her attention, so I pulled a $100 bill from my wallet and waved it above the crowd. An old trick I use. Instincts took over as she stopped what she was doing and asked how she can take care of me. Help here is very good. I told her that i wasn't drinking this month, but I would enjoy a nice red wine, not too sweet. She suggested a glass and I repeated myself that I DID NOT want it to be too sweet, and asked her to confirm. Sometimes bartenders just don't listen. Not Suzy. She reassured me that this was not too sweet of a wine, and that she even enjoys it herself. She selected the perfect blend of grapes and tannins for my palate. My neighbor makes wine, and this was a pretty good one. Its clear they have recruited the most knowledgeable staff from the top bartender schools in the area. Colleagues and I enjoyed our drinks, the atmosphere, and each others company (except Bill. Bill is the worst) until last call. I drank 10 cans of wine. Will be back soon. read more

This place is fucking amazing!!!! The cocktails are beautiful and super tasty! While talking to the bartenders, they informed me that the rum they use is top notch and you can definitely tell too. The bartenders themselves are so welcoming and knowledgeable! They carry this delicious rum called Plantation Pineapple and they do this float on their version of a Painkiller and it's so fucking good. I love the decor and atmosphere too. I'm so glad I walked into a tiki bar that didn't splash water in my face because I ordered a "special" cocktail (I'm looking at you Disneyland lol) Seriously, check this place out. Order the Painkiller with the float and then order 4 more. Get to know the bartenders because they fucking rule. Great place! Fight me at the Sportsman's parking lot if you think otherwise! read more
