It was my first time visiting Tesoro and wish I could leave a higher star on this review. We waited around 45 minutes which is not a problem because it was Sunday morning and everyone has a brunch wait of this time to 1hour. The hostess were kind and attentive. The ordering system was a little confusing. We were told by the waitress that if we ordered anything after the main order was placed in, we would have to wait an additional 45 minutes for that food. We didn't take a cake because my sister really loves their gansito pancakes but we didn't want to order them with our food because no one enjoys eating cold pancakes, right? Anyway, the chilaquiles were good. Be careful though , the waitress will ask you if you want chips and salsa however they have a small sign at the table that's it's $5 for that. It Seems scammy- I'd prefer them not to offer it, if it's not included and just list them as an appetizer to avoid that feel. The pancakes were super gummy in the edges like if they were undercooked (see photo). The competition for almuerzo- Mexican food is very high in the area. I would recommend trying out another place unless you want to go for the "Instagram vibes" as the place itself is cute. Maybe they were short staffed. Who knows. Stopped by Tesoro earlier today and WOW -- definitely impressed. I had the OG chilaquiles with three eggs and they were absolutely incredible. Everything came out fresh, hot, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. You can tell they really care about quality here. The coffee was also so good, and the customer service made the experience even better. My waitress was extremely knowledgeable, gave great personal recommendations from the menu, and made us feel very welcomed. The entire atmosphere was warm, inviting, and comfortable. I have seen this place on TikTok and thought it would be the perfect place to take my dad. When you walk in, it literally feels like you are in someone's home. My husband found this place when shopping for records across the street and hasn't stopped talking about it since then, so we got up early this Sunday morning and headed over there to try to beat the crowds. While we stood there waiting to order, I read their sign that basically let's you know that there may be tables available, but they will fill them according to the number of servers/staff available at the time. (I feel like the ones complaining would take the tables if offered and then complain because service was slow.) Once we were seated, we were checked on regularly and our service was impeccable. The food was delicious! Hubby is hooked on their chilaquilles and I had the chorizo con huevos and they were delicious. I wasn't crazy about the potatoes, but I'm that way most places with breakfast potatoes. (For the ones complaining about not having chips so you could eat the beans? In total we waited 2 hours for 2 plates of chilaquiles .. We visited this location on a Friday for lunch. We got there at 12:30 and there was a 30 min wait which we didn't mind at all. We willingly waited an hour to dine at Tesoro today, despite the chaotic and visibly overwhelmed atmosphere, I had heard the food there was delicious, so we decided to stay. Unfortunately, the entire experience deteriorated the moment we sat down. Before our drinks even arrived, we were immediately rushed to order. The real disappointment, however, came with the bill. My mother requested her chilaquiles without eggs, and the waitress actively offered potatoes as an alternative. She completely hid the fact that this minor swap carried a staggering $5 surcharge. When I calmly questioned the surprise fee, the waitress offered a careless excuse, became defensive, and treated us with disrespect, even appearing to hold back a laugh. It is incredibly insulting to be treated like a burden for expecting basic transparency. While the food was good, the unprofessional attitude of the staff completely ruined the experience. We arrived on a Saturday morning at 10:30 am, understandably busy time, told it would be an hour to 90 min wait for 2. We decided to leave and try again another time. We returned a week later around 12:45 pm and were told a 30 minute wait for 2. We waited and got seated at 1:11 pm. Nobody acknowledged us, asked for our drink order and multiple employees walked past us. Another couple sat next to us about 5 mins after we did and pretty much immediately, a waitress came to them and took their order. Meanwhile we remained sitting and waiting. We flagged down an employee to ask for someone to take our order please and about 5 mins after that, someone finally came. On top of that, they offer complimentary peanuts and the peanuts were pretty much empty with old shells leftover in the bowl. Don't get me wrong, the food is delicious and the ambiance is nicely decorated and beautiful. But it is disappointing that with such good food and beautiful decorations that the service has suffered. A simple acknowledgment is the bare minimum to offer someone who's spending their money on your business. I write this review not to be petty but to hopefully get someone's attention to make improvements. This isn't the first time I've been disappointed by Tesoro. It's been at least 2-3 times prior. I was so proud to see a restaurant with Zacatecas roots so I took my girlfriend here. After my experience, I was embarrassed. Although the food was delicious, this place is managed by inexperienced people that are obviously not reading the feedback from their reviews. We waited 1.5 hours for a seat and then another 30mins for food. They have signs that say they're hiring more waitresses and food runners when their waitresses and food runners interacted with us for a maximum of 3 minutes from the moment we ordered to when we left. They need more help in the kitchen to be able to service their clients. Food comes out like it's a video game. They bring out one plate at a time and there's no organization as to the order of which plate they do as they zig zag and fill tables in different orders. I had to wait 7 mins for my girlfriend to receive her meal after I received mine and if you're anything like me, I was raised to not eat until everyone receives their food at the table. Please please please focus on managing expectations given your wait times. Hire more help for your kitchen and invest in that kitchen. Bring out a table's full plates and not skip around. And preferably, ask for payment after one eats their food. It doesn't feel right to ask for a tip when I place an order after a long wait, it's very disconnected to the reality the customer is experiencing. Remember many people wait and save all week to try places like yours so for them to experience something like this ends up being the brand your restaurant gets known for.
