I stayed at the Renaissance Hotel and First Watch is an enjoyable 8 minute walk from the hotel. I absolutely love this restaurant. We had an Oasis suite and it was spacious and it looked newly renovated. The bathroom had both a tub and a walkin shower and we had a first floor room so we could walk directly to the adult pool. We went swimming every afternoon we were there and other than one person for 10 minutes, we were the only ones swimming. One nice thing is that they provide pool noodles so we could float to our hearts content. From the time we checked in, every person on their staff was helpful and friendly. We found when we checked in that the valets offered a free shuttle throughout the resort. So one night we went to the golf course and took a shuttle there. Since it was 112° it was a great alternative to driving or walking. If we had one quibble, the exterior of the resort, could've used an update. For example, the adult soft water pool surround was cracked in many places. I guess trying to grow grass in Phoenix in the middle of summer is difficult, but it made the common areas look unkempt. But overall, we loved everything else about the resort and would highly recommend staying here.

The family pool was extremely crowded with children, which is expected for a family-friendly resort. We spent most of our time at the adult pool, which was much quieter and child-free. Unfortunately, the adult pool area felt like an afterthought compared to the family side. Several tiles in the pool were broken, giving the area a worn and somewhat neglected feel. The lounge chairs were not as nice as those at the family pool, and the cabanas also seemed less inviting and less maintained. The food and beverage experience was another disappointment. There was no traditional menu available at the adult pool. Instead, you had to scan a QR code on the drink menu to access food options and then call in your order yourself. It felt inconvenient and took away from the relaxing resort experience. One bright spot was the poolside service. Our server was very attentive, friendly, and checked on us regularly throughout the day. She did a great job and provided excellent customer service. While the adult pool provided a quieter atmosphere, it lacked the quality and amenities I expected.

The property itself is well maintained, the room is spacious, the air conditioner works great (which is essential when Glendale is regularly over 100 degrees), and I even appreciated the TV remote--something that sounds minor until you've stayed in enough hotels where half the buttons don't work. Unfortunately, my stay was overshadowed by an embarrassing experience that left me feeling singled out. I was sitting in my car finishing a few text messages about the convention before heading inside. While I was there, I watched several people walk into the hotel without being questioned by the woman at the front desk. When I walked in--wearing work pants, a white T-shirt, a brown beanie, and flip-flops--I was immediately stopped and asked what room I was staying in. I answered. Then I was asked for my last name. I showed my room key, but I was still told to go to the front desk. What bothered me wasn't simply being asked to verify I was a guest. Hotels have every right to protect their guests. What bothered me was that I had just watched multiple people enter without being stopped, yet I was the only one questioned. As I got on the elevator, the employee gave me a stern look and continued addressing me in front of other guests. It was uncomfortable enough that another guest in the elevator felt the need to tell me, "If you're not a guest here, you shouldn't be here." I quietly showed them my room key, rode to the second floor, and walked to Room 223. I can't say for certain why I was singled out. Maybe it was because of the way I was dressed. Maybe it was because I'm brown-skinned. Maybe someone thought I looked poor or homeless. I don't know. What I do know is how it made me feel: embarrassed, humiliated, and treated like I had done something wrong when I hadn't. Could the situation have been handled differently? Probably, on both sides. But I keep coming back to one question: Why was I the only person asked to prove I belonged there after watching several others walk in without a second glance? TownePlace Suites has a nice property and comfortable rooms, but no guest should leave feeling publicly embarrassed or singled out. I hope management takes a closer look at how these situations are handled so every guest is treated with the same level of respect.

Got here and we had to wait an hour and a half for the Pickleball court, which at the end of the day, is understandable since we didn't have the reservation on a Sunday afternoon. so we waited about an hour and a half the gentleman asked me if I wanted 30 minutes or an hour I said an hour I got put down for 30 minutes, not knowing spent an hour and a half at the facility playing cornhole, and all the other games they had to offer our time was finally up after having a couple drinks and food. And if you're looking for a fast drinks from the bartenders, you might as well sit down for 15 to 20 minutes to wait for that drink as they don't really care or have a sense of emergency because it is a tip pool . What they don't understand is it's a team effort and because they don't care that affects everybody else that does care. We ended up playing Pickleball for 30 minutes and got kicked off the court after reserving it for an hour and there was a mistake. Clearly I was frustrated and the only reason that they are getting a five star is because John the general manager stepped in and clearly saw my frustration before I even had said anything he already offered to take care of the 30 minute game and some other items as I was not looking for this he still took care of it. It doesn't really make it better, but at the end of the day, he definitely made it better and we do appreciate it so we definitely recommend this place. We will be back to play some pickle ball and give the other staff a chance.

It didn't matter who we asked for help--everyone was friendly, attentive, and happy to assist. That level of service really elevated the experience.
