I am a regular long time shopper at Ashby de la Zouch Tesco and have yet again had to witness many young staff standing chatting about personal things rather than getting on with their job, trolley collectors chit chatting and having laddish banter, other staff moaning about management and unfairness and rude pickers who are loading large trollies with orders, also chatting and saying customers can put up with what has been put in their order if something is not available, also cutting across other customers. Really makes me consider going elsewhere on a permanent basis, I'm already using other supermarkets on some occasions. read more

The Tesco at Ashby is a large, but not daunting supermarket. As well as groceries it has a good, concise choice of books, toys, clothes, electrical and homewares. So even when doing a regular shop you can pick up those extras too. Like all Tesco I find their pricing average and it is very easy to spend more than you planned on doing! But the choice is good, well laid out and the store is clean. I always find the staff a bit aloof. It is hard to explain but this is quite a dull supermarket. There is a cafe but the times I have grabbed something to eat there it has been very disappointing and really only good for a cuppa if you are parched. The customer toilets are well maintained. There is a petrol station onsite and recycling facilties in the car park. read more

I used to work at this Tesco back in my student days. Shockingly enough though, I do not have anything bad to say about it! It is a large store and is open 24-hours a day on weekdays, while on Saturday's it shuts at 22:00 and on Sunday's it closes at 16:00. You can get just about anything you want from this store, whether it be clothes, groceries or electronics. As Tesco are so well known for doing, they are pretty competitive price wise on any type of product they sell. On the grocery side of things, the only obvious thing I can criticise is that for a store this size, their fruit and vegetable section (produce) is a bit lacking in choice compared to some competitor supermarkets in the local area. As is becoming more common in many supermarkets now, there are a couple of self-serving checkouts for those who want that way of paying for there goods. There is a large car park, where you should be able to find a space even at peak times. Be warned though, at peak times it does get very busy in here as this by far the biggest supermarket in the area, it does attract people from a wide geographical area. If you need a hand looking for something, the staff are generally receptive and will try and direct you to what you are looking for. In sum, it is a good Tesco's and it is the only 24-hour supermarket in the area, which is an added bonus for those who work unsociable hours. read more

I went to the little cafe here today. First time in Ashby, also. The staff in the cafe were very friendly, can't fault anything with that, and very good prices. I ordered a latte and a cheese and onion toastie (I'm vegetarian). It was an usually long wait for the toastie as it is pre-made so thought it would be a little faster (I dropped my boyfriend off at an interview so at this point I had about fifteen minutes to leave). After ten minutes one of the women was looking around and said "Toastie?" I asked "Is it cheese and onion?" she replied yes and gave me the toastie. I was so stupid but it wasn't until I got half way through the first half of the toastie that I realised I was eating ham and cheese. I wouldn't have had enough time to go up, wait, get a new toastie and wait again. I was also a bit upset and confused after eating the ham so I got up and left. There was nothing that could have been done anyway, I'd already eaten the ham. I know I should have realised I was eating ham but she said yes when I asked if it was cheese and onion so I didn't think to look. I know it's an honest mistake and no one got hurt, but I think maybe they should be more careful and know what food they're bringing out? Maybe get those tables numbers? Just an idea. Like I said, all the staff were lovely. Really my main fault is being served ham when I'm vegetarian. read more

Time for a much needed update, Tesco has undergone a startling transformation since my last review. Accessed easily from Resolution Road, you can now enter the car park passed the large petrol station or round the back, passing the entrance to the the McVities factory. The car park has been extended, there are many more spaces, which helps at busy times like Christmas. The trolley bays are easy to access, and there are always free spaces now. The store since its revamp is accessed from the opposite end, which took a bit of getting used to. Large promotional items in the entrance tempt you even before you get into the store. As you enter the store, there is Costa based restaurant to the right adjacent to the customer service desk. Much improved over the last incarnation of the restaurant, it is bigger, separate from the supermarket and has a good range of food and drinks, both hot and cold. With Costa coffee you know you are going to get a fairly good cup of coffee, and the surroundings are relaxing. Note though you cannot use your Costa card in the cafe, but you can use your Tesco card The store itself starts with a sizeable section of newspapers and magazines, as well as flowers and potted plants. The aisles that follow are a copious range of books, stationery, kitchen items, electrical goods, toys and games. Edging all these aisles are the special offers. The end of this section is a huge electronics area - TVs, IPads, Laptops, CDs, DVDs, games etc. A great range at mostly competitive prices. The end of the store has an opticians, a mobile phone shop, a pharmacy, as well as the obligatory fish, bakery and deli counters. Again the size of the store allows these specialist areas to quite be sizeable and the range of items they sell reflects this. The mobile phone shop is always awash with good deals. Near the far end of the store is a sizeable clothing area, offering men's, women's and children's clothes and shoes, all usually very competitively priced As for the main part of the store, all the usual faithfuls are here, a sizeable fruit and veg section, with good variety. The meat and fish aisles, are stacked with the usual chicken, beef, salmon, cod, etc, but also dotted amongst them more unusual types too. The frozen and dairy sections, have some of the best food and variety in the store. The alcohol section has some interesting and unusual, beers and wines. I could go on, but really all you need to know is that everything you would expect to find is present in an impressive scale. The store is now bright and airy, has a feeling of space, it doesn't look tired any more, it doesn't become incessantly busy and the staff are friendly and helpful too, a vast improvement. It is no longer a chore to get your groceries. read more

As one of the larger branches on the edge of town, Ashby's Tesco naturally stocks quite a wide range. Key features? - They have an aisle dedicated to 'special' food - health (Nakd bars, rye bread, seeds and fruit - they have a lot of their Whole Foods range, some of which is in the produce section), Free From and a range of cuisines from Chinese and Indian to Polish, Greek and Jamaican. - There's a deli and a fish counter, and the bakery is quite big. - Most of the store is for typical domestic stuff like food and cleaning, but around one third holds clothes, CDs/DVDs/gadgets, crockery and magazines. There's a half-size aisle or two for each, and there are £3 charts for the discs - most will be recent, but I've got David Bowie and Kinks compilations for £3 apiece, and recently they have a 3-disc Buddy Holly one. - There's a pharmacy, and it sells a couple of mainstream fragrances. - The makeup and toiletries section is big enough to have a couple of own-brand ranges and the full set of L'oreal haircare. They have four self-services, around ten normal checkouts and two 10-items-or-less. There's also a tobacco counter, and customer services cover the electricals support too. Chances are, most of your needs will be satisfied by this Tesco. It definitely gets the average household shop done, and unless you want real specialty food (like health food - I recommend Jane's - or fancy baking, which the two delis downtown cater for) you should find it's enough. read more

A decent size Tesco which has put in permission to extend and double it's size. This store has ample parking spaces and stocks a good range of items, they have a clothing, toys, homeware and entertainment areanot the biggest of any but adequate enough. The store also has a cafe which is unfortunately franchised now so a little bit more expensive than previously. The store also has self scan tills so good for que jumping or just purely playing.... The only downside to this store are the staff, they are some of the most rude people I have ever come across. The young members of staff are their only saving grace. read more

I used to spend hours ambling round here when I was skiving from my job! I prefer this store to the tescos in Loughborough which is closer. I don't know why but the layout feels easier. This tescos has a good range of books and clothing. Other items like electrical are sometimes a but lacking. I have always found everything I need and the stock levels seem consistently high. The café serves nice food but a little expensive. The self service tills are great and its like playing shop! It has a massive car park and recycling facilities. read more

The service at Tesco's cafe was terrible after waiting what felt like an eternity to get served I was then told they would no longer be serving hot food an hour an a half before closing. After getting served we then had to wait 19 minutes before getting are drinks and by then they were stone cold; the tables were also atrociously dirty and there was plates and cups left everywhere over all the experience at Tesco cafe awful. read more

tesco in Ashby lately submitted plans for doubling its size on the present site. which is good news for them but the local shops in the high street according to the local paper are not. they have a small range of TV on display and often go here to buy my shopping after work when i work nights as its a 24hrs shop. mind u its like a obstacle course at half five in the morning with cages and empty boxes in the alses. but if u needed any thing which is not on display then they will go in the warehouse and see if its been delivered by then and bring it out to you if it has. i got some frozen chicken drumsticks this morning a 1.3kg bag and it cost just 69p. a bargain i thought. lately they have brought out a new range of items called the discounter range thank you for that as Ive noticed the value range has dropped in price as well. there is a butcher and deli counter . their hot roast chicken are nice and the fish counter is brill as well. love the taste of fresh baked tiger loaf. normally they have just finished cooling down from the oven when i come in and cant wait to get home and put some butter on a slice for breakfast read more
