DOUBLE CHECK the price as they ring you up and your receipt! Unfortunately, I noticed too late that I was overcharged and I am not close to the area to go back. Receipt showing they over charged me $12 vs $10 on the soap bars listed. I should have double checked before I left but a long line was forming behind me! Aside from the price issue complaint, the shop itself is very cute. Everything decorated there looks like a winter wonderland during December. As the name suggests, they have a large nursery section for all sorts of plants throughout the shop. They also have many curated decorative and gift type items for sale. They have small sections of sale items which have very specific brands or circumstances that they apply to. Given the neighborhood demographic the steep prices are not surprising. If you find something you like here, it may be worth looking into how to get the item directly from the seller. One of the main benefits is that this is indoors and directly attached to the café, which I enjoyed much more. It's always fun to walk around and digest to browse after a meal. read more

This store is quite huge and my what an artistically designed store. I was visiting from NY with a friend and we were looking for local plant stores. While there were a few other nurseries nearby, Terrain is probably one of the largest and most well-designed I've seen. There's a large outdoor area where you can find sun-loving plants, including a few cacti. But indoors feels like an indoor forest. There are all sorts of plant displays, from succulents to air plants, as well as artistic pots. There are also non-plant items, such as candles for sale. You can certainly spend quite a bit of time in the store looking around, but they also have a restaurant and bar where you can relax. Overall, Terrain offers a lot for any visitor and is definitely worth the visit. read more

As soon as you walk in you will be captured with all of the interesting things they have to offer. Terrain is awesome. Westport is beyond blessed to have this wonderful, inspirational store and cafe. Each time you go in you are sure to see something interesting, different and unique. And, if you dine in the cafe, you had just made yourself the most lovely adventure. So many vegan and vegetarian items. Look forward to the cafe service opening after this lock down nonsense we just experienced that was planned as early as 2018 when the bonds were floated. This is a great place with a healthy variety of plants, gifts, ceramics etc. it's a large retail space so you can spend a fair amount of time wandering around shopping for house plants, planters, pots, bath items, etc. It's such a magical place for plant lovers. With great eye-candy, especially during the holidays. We had a couple of people ask if we needed help- some more friendly than others. But when I asked a specific question, the woman who I asked spent so much time explaining and walking us around to various plant options. She was very thorough. Upon checkout, they took quite a bit of care to wrap and box our plants and pots. It was such a happy experience. For all you plant lovers, the plants are well cared for. very upset i could not buy the tree that was made to look like a palm tree. Not to happy with Terrain in fact you lost a customer. That tree didn't have a not for sale sign on it. The people you hire are not customer friendly and don't get the customer what they want to buy. I told my friends and family and they definitely will not be shopping there anytime soon. Terrain is definitely one of the most unique stores you will ever step foot in. This is mostly a speciality nursery along with home decor, kitchen goods, and some personal items like jewelry and body lotions thrown in. My boyfriend and I stopped her on a whim last weekend and decided to stop by here again on July 4th. We were so glad they were open and found great deals on all their outdoor plants. The staff here is so friendly and knowledgeable. My only gripe was that a fellow shopper took a plant from our cart when I wasn't looking. Yes, that really happened. So be aware of the entitled clientele. I hope your plant dies, lady. Pro tip- My favorite time to visit is during the holiday season. They always have unique ornaments and holiday decor you won't find anywhere else. The store gets absolutely mobbed this time of year so plan ahead by either going on a weeknight or early morning/ late evening. She's pricey but if you want cheap go to the big box stores and buy there but if you want to think you are in a garden wonderland go here. The plants are not that much more but they are for sure in better condition. Yes I paid 75 dollars for a Christmas Cactus but it was huge....you will not find that elsewhere.. Some things are pretty to look at and you know you won't buy them cause they are too pricy but you look and move on. I made something they sell in a potters class and that cost me 14 dollars..... they were selling the same thing for almost 300 dollars....I had a good laugh and even a better one when I went back and saw the items half price! Friends have been to the cafe and found it too pricey and not enough food for the price. We have no issue paying for food but have it be portion appropriate. I don't have a green thumb by any stretch of the imagination (I can't even take care of air plants or succulents) so I mostly ambled around but did end up taking home a couple faux plants that didn't break the bank. The selection is stunning but definitely comes at a high price point - not surprising given the location. Beyond the flora and accompanying garden accoutrements, I loved browsing the items that had absolutely nothing to do with plants. This review is specifically related to Christmas tree experience at Terrain. I love the cafe and the store so I decided to purchase a tree here this year since they had so many unique and beautiful trees. Got it Thanksgiving weekend and it didn't seem like the employee had experience with Christmas trees. No fresh cut was provided. I'm not even sure how that's possible given they are highly experienced with trees and plants. Then the employee could barely tie the tree to the car and ended up tying the tree with the doors closed so we couldn't open the doors. Needless to say we got home put the tree in the stand and it didn't drink a drop of water and died within two weeks. $158 for a dead tree. Unfortunately we didn't save the receipt otherwise I would've brought it back. Never again. I'll stick to the tree farms in Easton. read more

I've been shopping here for years and often frequent the cafe. The people they hire can either make your shopping experience the best ever or make you want to leave the store. This store is in dire need of customer service or human interaction training. The manager, Jeannie handled a return (back in December) so poorly...rude, accusatory tone of voice and approach. This is took place in front of the staff. I put back what I was going to purchase. A week earlier my daughter had a basket filled with close to $400 worth of gifts and was scolded by an employee. COVID? Demanding customers? Who knows what drives the poor behavior. If interacting with the public is so difficult then Terrain shouldn't be in the business of serving consumers. I went here recently and purchased several plants and one pot. Be weary of buying plants here, when I got home I realized that the plants were completely infested with bugs (I think aphids). I'm frustrated with how much more plants cost here compared to other nurseries. You might as well go to your local big box hardware store if you're not bothered by infested plants, they will at least be affordable. Love Terrain, everything has been said by other reviewers. Amazing selection, fantastically talented staff and in house arrangements. On the pricey side but then again this is Westport CT. Fiona is amazing, have visited on multiple occasions and she has always provided excellent advice and recommendations she is a gem. On a side note we have visited for years with our leashed and well behaved dog and the staff have spent hours over the years playing with her. On this most recent trip we were stopped by an employee asking if she was a service dog and if not she couldn't be in here because of a recent health department ruling. I also believe it is against federal law to ask if your dog is a service dog. Meanwhile we watched other couples bring in their dogs in front of multiple staff and they even played with the dog. There needs to be some consistency in the enforcement otherwise this is discrimination. I would hope this was not a case of profiling of some sort, because that would obviously be quite inappropriate. This ruined out experience somewhat and we have to think whether we will be customers of such an establishment in the future. read more

We still don't understand why the prices here are so high, but one of our (well mine, Brock just gets dragged) favorite things to do on a Saturday afternoon is to come here, grab a cocktail from the cafe, and roam the store and admire all the terrariums, and handmade chachkees throughout... I've taken some of the classes here which have always proven valuable from an education and idea standpoint. The terrarium weekend classes are $25 for the instruction and basic materials, and then you are more than welcome to create something as elaborate or simple as you like. read more

I placed an order for pickup and never received a response. I was depending on this store to start a project and they let me down. Why make the curbside pickup an option if you completely ignore order requests? I also called to place an order and they just asked for me to leave my name and email - so also not helpful. Shouldn't there be a team or people taking curbside pickup orders? Almost all other stores have been able to make online ordering and store pickup work. Also I went there and used a coupon from the website and the cashier was all flustered by me having a coupon. She told me twice that if I have a coupon I need to tell her in the beginning of the transaction. She seemed like she required more training or was just someone who gets easily upset. I did not let it ruin my time there, I just waited patiently as she tried to make me feel bad and blame me for her not knowing how to apply a 10% discount. It was really unnecessary for her to say to me twice about when I should have told her about the coupon, she should have just been honest with herself and admit she needed help at check out. I see it is a common complaint from other reviews that the staff generally is in a bad mood and have zero customer service skills. read more

Every time I go to Terrain, I am impressed with the lovely displays and the amazing creativity and helpfulness of the staff. The holiday displays after dark are absolutely magical. Prices are high, but much like Anthropologie, deals can be had if you follow the markdowns. (I scored some great lights for just over $10, originally $44). The restaurant is a great place to catch a nicely prepared meal, and does not feel like you are eating on the sales floor at all. And lest I forget to mention it....there are classes, too! During my last visit I was surprised to hear something akin to country music playing on the store sound system. Nothing against country music, but it seemed out of place in this setting. Perhaps it was more noticeable due to its volume. In any case, a more ambient soundtrack seems more appropriate, and soothing. A trip to Terrain is definitely worth the trip. While you might not think of a place like this in midwinter, it is exactly the place to go to escape from the bleak winter landscape and recharge. You can't help but be inspired!! read more

I've visited several times and every time I walked out thinking WTF. WTF do people see in this place? I can never find anything worth purchasing. Not one item. Nada. None. And that's really really unusual for me. Usually I can find at least one thing worth purchasing. IMO the whole store comes across as a total waste of space. I mean seriously, what's so great about the plant pots that they require a 2x price hike compared to the plant pots at Walmart? Do they grow your plants 2X faster? I don't know what it is about the attraction of this store for others. On both of my visits the parking lot was completely packed. Maybe people go for the food.
