Terrain takes ordinary items available elsewhere and marks them up by as much as 100%. I bought two sets of string lights here for $88/strand. After installing them, I went to purchase replacement bulbs and saw the exact same string lights - same brand, same length, everything - are available for $35-40 from the manufacturer and at all other retailers where they are sold. Brought it to customer service's attention, but they don't care. I expect prices to vary between different stores, but that's different than a blatantly fraudulent markup. Although I've spent well in excess of $1,000 here over the years, this incident was the last straw for me. read more

Amazing in store experience in CT! The food in the cafe was amazing and really interesting drinks. Such a feel good store- that I knew I had to buy Christmas gifts for my family from there after I moved down to Florida... unfortunately, the online shopping part was a disaster. After using Lazership, and having my order (a small candle) sit in transit for 9 days after it went out, I reached out to lazership- they said to reconfirm my address. So I did... and they ended up sending it back to the store. 2 days before Christmas. Had to call Terrain online and they had no answers for me, but gave me a refund. Asked me if I wanted to repurchase ?? I said yes, but I purchased it as a Christmas gift and now it's 10 days out again... very upset with their customer service and shipping company, Lazership. The women only gave me free shipping ($7) off after that situation as well. read more

I usually love terrain and have a great experience. They have lovely flowers and lots of beautiful items. The staff are knowledgeable. But today I had the rudest man checking me out at the register. It's a long story but he was rude off the bat and very dismissive. He completely ruined the experience and I do not know if I will return. Horrible when a person can completely ruin a place for you. And we spent over $700, now you lost me as a customer. read more

This review is for an online purchase of a large dish. They sent the wrong color (one not shown on the site). It was awful and wanted to return it (the one I wanted turns out wasn't available). Their return policy states buyer is responsible for return shipment. I emailed them since the return was due to their error. They offered to refund $16 for shipping costs--though it cost me $38 (cheapest shipment) to return. Fine. Over a month after return delivery confirmed and have not received the refund. I emailed them and they asked for the return tracking #, which I sent--though the shipment contained all the necessary paperwork. Only then did I get an email telling me they would refund the full amount (still have yet to receive it). They wouldn't have refunded me at all if I had not contacted them. For their prices, I expected more. Terrible. Will never buy from them again. read more

Used to enjoy this garden shop. However today I traveled from my home in White Plains, NY. It was 93 degrees so I drank lots of water. When I arrived, the sign said that the restrooms were closed. I had hoped since I was purchasing nearly $100 worth of merchandise the cashier would make an exception. Not a chance. She explained that since the restaurant was closed, the bathrooms were too. Where is the logic in that? She suggested I try the supermarket down the block. I left without buying anything and won't return. In this pandemic, everything has become so much more difficult and this store didn't help. Shame on them for their stupid policy. Luckily the items I really wanted were available on Amazon. read more

Whoever does the buying for this place - is brilliant. It's worth wandering through the store just to enjoy seeing the carefully curated products - exquisite plants and unusual, thoughtful gifts for the home and garden. I like going there for gifts when I don't have something particular I am looking for. I would have given 5 stars, but I took off a star, only because parking is a bit of a trick, and prices are at a premium (no great "deals" to be found). read more

I used to love to explore and shop here but not since last year. I was given a plant from here following cancer surgery and it died in a few days. When I called to speak to the manager to maybe replace it they basically said too bad, and they would not do anything. They are not nice people in spite of the lovely warm fuzzies they market. read more

I left a review about the café yesterday... Went back today to get a jump on Spring gardening. The saleswoman was very creative and had some excellent ideas... I really appreciated her time and she seemed genuinely concerned that I was happy. The pricing is expensive but is reasonable for what you get. I would recommend this business. read more

Terrain is my go-to place for gifts and a wonderful shopping experience. The selection of items is eclectic and in great taste. The atmosphere transportive. It is the most beautiful, organic, and serene environment. What a pleasure it is to shop there. Talk about retail therapy! I always leave feeling calmer and uplifted. It's a really pretty place but that's the extent. It's way over priced from the plants to the bars of soap. Everything is just too much for what their selling. You can find plants there much cheaper other places or even online. It's a good place to take pictures, and maybe work in the cafe on your laptop but I would save your money and go some place else. Also everyone who works there seems to be very fake and snotty. No one is really nice or friendly, they all judge you. Probably because it's in Westport. read more

If I wrote this review several months ago, I would have rated it 5 stars, but during my last visit I was so disappointed! Terrain has always been my favorite store. The way everything is displayed and organized puts me in a "happy place"! Although items are pretty expensive and I could find similar stuff at half the price elsewhere, I come here for the best ideas and never leave empty handed. During my last visit however, the place was a MESS! First, the plants outside all seemed dead, unwatered, uncared for. It was so disappointing. And it wasnt due to the change of seasons..I have been coming here for years around this time of year, and the nursery stock was always A+. Maybe because they expanded the parking lot into the nursery area and everything died? Not sure. Then I sent inside and noticed the sign about dogs no longer being allowed in due to health regulations..another disappointment. I have always loved that they allowed dogs inside and all of the pups Ive seen were very well behaved. My favorite part of Terrain is the middle section where they have some sort of striking display, depending on the season. I always try to replicate what they do in smaller form in my own house after viewing what they did. Well on this particular day I visited, it was EMPTY. So disappointed. This was the first time I left the store in 20 minutes without purchasing one single thing. I was actually thinking "Could they be going out of business?" Also..one note..I HATE the valet parking during lunch time. I would rather park my own car since I go here mainly to shop. I will go back again soon and hopefully this was just a fluke of how disappointing my visit was. read more

Do not shop Terrain.com for any furniture. We made that mistake and don't want others to have the same unsatisfactory experience we had. We placed a furniture order in April 2021. The furniture we received arrived damaged. We were dissatisfied, and contacted Terrain to return our items and issue us a refund, which was in accordance with the clearly listed Return Policy on Terrain's website. To this date May 28, 2021, after making multiple phone and email attempts to Terrain, speaking to various employees of Terrain's Furniture Customer Service Team, after having been promised furniture pick-up multiple times, waiting around for hours to have Terrain's damaged furniture picked up, having Terrain not bother to show up as scheduled, or even bother to extend the simple courtesy of a phone call to say they would not be showing up - Terrain still continues to pass us along from one employee to another all of whom are apologetic and make false promises - Terrain still refuses to honor their own posted Return Policy. I would rate Terrain and their response to our requests as more than horrible. read more
