I've been to Terrain a few times over the past several months. It took a few visits to figure out whether I liked the restaurant or not. This wasn't because of poor service or bad food, because those are both pretty good. This was really just due to the atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, it's a newer building and well-maintained (and clean). But gives me "Tea Room" vibes from the colors to the plants. With that said, I won't let this affect my review. Our last visit was on Saturday night. It was a strange night because on Sunday, we were set to be hit with snowstorm Fern. You could tell that people were bracing for what would come. To me, it was very reminiscent of just before the lockdowns for COVID-19 in 2020. Anyways, moving on from my memories of that! We sat at the bar, which is always my favorite seat in any restaurant, but we don't do much as normally we have our six-year old son with us. Not tonight! There were two (or maybe three) bartenders. It's a large bar, probably about 20 seats, and at 4:30 pm, they were all open but 2. We started with a few cocktails, an Espresso Martini for my wife and the Torched Orange Negroni for me. The drinks were good...the Negroni was too good and went down too quickly; time to switch to beer I guess. For appetizers, we ordered the Fried Cauliflower: crispy cauliflower tossed in pastrami spice, served with tangy mustard aioli; and the Artisanal Cheese Board: a curated selection of local cheeses, tangy pickles, fresh fruit, sweet preserves, crunchy crostini, and golden honey (and yes, we added the prosciutto for $4 more). The cauliflower was pretty good; it wasn't breaded, which I was happy about, and both the spice and aioli added good flavor and contrast. It wasn't that hot, but I didn't think anything of that (more on this later). The cheeseboard was larger than I expected. Several mixed berries, five different (large pieces) of cheese, the priscuotto, and some crackers. All good. The crackers were probably the highlight and the most disappointing item. They were very good, heavily flavored with rosemary and the perfect crunch and salt. But, they overpowered the delicate cheeses. My wife likes a cracker with some cheese, but in this case, we just ate them separately (still very good). For entrees, my wife ordered the Shrimp and Blue Crab Bucatini: green garlic butter, fresh scallions, and spicy Calabrian chili oil; and I ordered the Terrain Burger: 8 oz. grass-fed beef, Cabot Creamery white cheddar, sweet balsamic onion jam, brioche bun, simply dressed greens, with an egg (cooked to order over easy) and bacon. And since we were facing the snowpocalypse, I ordered the Truffle and Pecorino Fries for an upcharge instead of the normal salad that comes with it (more tea room vibes here?). My wife's plate looked very good, and I'm always happy to see when a pasta dish with seafood isn't ruined with a heavy red sauce. Instead, a light butter sauce complements the light flavors of the seafood. My wife took a bite and said, "Whoa, that's spicy," but the subsequent bites showed that perhaps she had the only Calabrian chili in the first bite, and it was not mixed through. She did mention to me that her food was just lukewarm (cauliflower flashback?). I briefly wrote this off because sometimes she likes her food far too hot (temperature)...but maybe she was right. I was first surprised when mine arrived. I was expecting fries doused with fake truffle oil and some grated pecorino on top. Instead, I saw fries that had a truffle cheese grated on them, not quite melted yet. It honestly tasted good and was a good change. But it wouldn't melt; my wife was correct with the food being lukewarm. My fries were cool, so the cheese never melted, and the burger seemed cool too. Now, that aside, the burger was cooked to a perfect medium and was seasoned well. It was good! All in all, it is a good restaurant. It's a little on the high end price-wise for what you get, but it is a good change. I will return and think about my Tea Room fears as I hopefully enjoy another meal at the bar. read more

Better than expected! I had always thought this place was just a sandwich & salad place for some reason. They have way more than that. There were 3 of us for lunch on a Thursday and we were glad that we had made reservations - it was just about full at 1 pm. The 2 cocktails, a Winter Citrus Margarita and Pomegranate Mule were very good as was the bottled Stella Artois. The delicious warm Bread in a clay flower pot with Vanilla and Hibiscus flower butter was a nice start. The Beet & Burrata as well as the Cesar Salads were both very generous portions and were delicious. The Chicken Pot Pie was an upscale version of that dish with very tasty mushroom slices throughout. We had a lovely dinner at Terrain! The interior is absolutely gorgeous with all the greenery and plants! Service was wonderful as well - our wait staff were all attentive and friendly. Our server Amanda was attentive without us feeling like we were being rushed, we enjoyed the cute flower pots the bread came in as it fit into the farm/garden/floral theme, and the food was pretty good. We are retired 73 year olds on social security who went to the restaurant because we had a gift certificate. The good was that food and service were very good and the ambience was so special. The bad was that we had a gift certificate for $100 and they refused to accept it because our daughter ( who gave it to us ) chose the wrong link by mistake to their store and it wasn't good at the restaurant. So we had to pay $109 for a meal we would never have eaten if it wasn't already paid for at a time when we are struggling with bills. The one thing I really enjoyed was ironically their complimentary bread, however the butter they have was not good. It's "lemon poppy butter", but as you can imagine lemon-y butter falls on the more sourish side, something I was not fond of. I ordered the burrata with squash and the squash was undercooked. It was crunchy and hard to chew. The truffle fries were decent! And the burger was fine as well. However, if you get the lobster roll, be prepared to be utterly disappointed. It's smaller than a hot dog bun and is mainly bread. For something on the pricier side, the lobster portion is like a spread- definitely not something you're eating to be full. Overall, I would not come back here again if you're looking for tasty food. But the vibes were cool! read more

Our server was a joy. Friendly, funny, polite and informative. She gave us plenty of time to eat and talk without feeling rushed or forgotten about. The bread came in a terra-cotta pot which is very unique but the lemon butter was on the bland side. I shared the grilled cheese which came on thick rye bread crispy, crunchy with just the right amount of butter, cheese and had a nice fig jam. So bummed. The atmosphere is gorgeous but the food is so disappointing. We've tried brunch here twice and both were terrible. First time here I had the short rib and egg. The egg was over cooked and the potatoes tasted old and were like rocks. We tried it again today. My husband got the burger and asked for it with an egg and bacon, it arrived missing the egg and bacon. I ordered the mushroom frittata.. it was sooooo over cooked, the eggs were like an old boot and the mushrooms were like hard rubber. Came here for brunch on Valentine's day with my husband. The exterior of the cafe was giving modern farmhouse. Everything about this cafe was so aesthetic, and the ambiance was so lovely. The interior decor was beautiful, it's a plant lover's dream. I would recommend making a reservation. We didn't make a reservation, and it was about an hour wait, although the restaurant looked like it had plenty of seats available. Thankfully we were able to be seated at the bar, where it is first come first serve. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, but we were disappointed by the service. Not sure if it was because it was Valentine's day and they were quite busy, but it took a very long time for our order to be taken. The staff were disorganized and one of the servers was just standing around. The girl who was serving us had served us our drinks and bread, but she did not come back for a long time to ask for our order. It was probably almost 30 min of waiting and we had to ask someone else to take our order, which was quite frustrating. Despite this, we did enjoy our food a lot. They served bread for the table in a flower pot which was just the cutest thing! The bread was warm and delicious and it tasted a bit sweet. I really liked my mocha latte. My husband ordered the orange tumeric sunrise, but he said it was quite watery and not sweet. Our food was delicious. I had gotten the terrain burger with a side of fries. The burger was so flavorful and juicy. My husband ordered the short rib with egg. He really enjoyed his dish. The sauce was so flavorful, and the meat was tender and pulled apart so easily. After our brunch, we explored the store and plant shop which is all connected, so you can walk through both from the cafe. The store was such a magical walk through, it is filled with the most aesthetic home goods, dried flowers, and decor. I wanted to buy everything. The garden/plant shop was also so lovely. It also looked like they offer classes which was pretty cool. Despite the service, we do want to go back and try their other food. Overall, it is a lovely place to dine and shop. read more

After Ubering 45 minutes from downtown Philly, we were super excited to eat at this restaurant. Given the fact we had to wait 35 minutes for a seat made us think it must be REALLY good! Upon walking into the restaurant, we could see people's food choices and they looked amazing. Sadly, that's where the impressiveness ended. There were some redeeming qualities... the bread/butter was good, as was the mushroom soup, and my Matcha Latte was good. The Caesar salad was wilted, rotted lettuce, and resembled nothing of a Caesar salad. Then, they brought everyone else's main courses out except mine. When it finally arrived it was cold. The mgr comped my meal, and comped my friends' drinks and gave them a $15 gift card, which will never be used since we live clear across the country. The mgr admitted that her team completely dropped the ball. I have to agree. But at least they tried to make it right. read more

Really disappointed. I spoke to a hostess on Friday who noted I needed to call back Monday since their book is only 60days out. I just called to reserve a table for 16ppl (you can only book 14ppl online) for my daughters Confirmation and was denied bc "they're busy on Saturdays" and they "don't think they'd do a good job" at 12pm, so they offered 10am or 2pm. We go here for date nights often and I have no idea why they'd decline a party of 16 when they allow you to book 14-afraid we'll cancel? Take a deposit. Afraid you won't have enough staff? Put more on the schedule. I feel like this was an easy fix customer service wise and no effort was made. The general manager had the hostess call me back to explain. This is overall disappointing and I'm rethinking any future visits or recommendations to others. It's always sad to me when places chase the newcomers and don't value the locals who keep the business going during slow periods as well as the busy ones. read more

Our family celebrated two birthdays at Terrain this evening. The decor was as beautiful as ever. Both were expected. But the food and service were unacceptable. Cocktails and beverages were served promptly and then began an exceedingly long wait for the appetizers to arrive. Neither the soup nor quinoa fritters were hot on arrival. The salads were served a minute after the appetizers landed and one minute later, the entrées appeared. It was difficult to find room on the table for all of the dishes at one time. Not one thing was hot. Room temperature was the norm this evening. We were very disappointed in Terrain where we had enjoyed a number of wonderful meals in the past. read more

The atmosphere in Terrain can't be beat. It feels like you are dining outside. The Chai latte was beautifully presented and delicious. They serve their bread in a flower pot and have a different butter flavor everyday. The mushroom soup and avocado Benedict were both amazing. read more
