Had a reservation for 6 PM to celebrate my birthday. This was our first time here. We loved the atmosphere which is a little bit modern, but also warm and inviting. Our server Nhia provided fantastic service and was so friendly. It was moderately busy. The music level and ambience not overbearing and still allowed for easy conversation. We started with two appetizers, both the focaccia and meatballs. We were glad that happy hour ran to 6pm and provided half off both appetizers and pizzas. We didn't try the pizzas, but a neighbor had the mushroom pizza and seemed delighted with it. The focaccia was melt in your mouth good but better yet the meatballs seasoned just right. The texture good and the quality of the meats noticeable. Locally sourced suppliers for the win! Our hanger steak was top notch. We're picky when it comes to steak and how the demi glaze, potatoes, onions and mushrooms melded were perfect. This entree would make it hard to pick something else on a future visit. Returning Sunday for brunch with friends to share a new favorite restaurant. read more

TerraGR: Some Great Dishes, But Overall a Major Disappointment We drove about two hours to see a show and had pretty high expectations after seeing all the glowing reviews. Unfortunately, TerraGR didn't come close to living up to them. The Focaccia ($8) was probably the best thing we had all night. It came highly recommended in previous reviews, and I can see why. The pesto, 'nduja butter, and truffle pecorino worked really well together. At $8, it's a great value and an easy recommendation. Definitely a must-have. The Arancini ($15) were probably our second favorite. Very tasty, with a great gooey cheese center. The Calabrian chili oil, fried basil, hot honey, lemon zest, and ricotta salata all worked well together. Definitely recommend. The Pesto Casarecce ($25) was a completely different story. We honestly questioned the concept of this dish. The combination of pesto cream, fennel sausage, peas, garlic breadcrumbs, and Parmesan was just baffling to us. We ate maybe half of the dish and simply didn't want any more. The Scallops ($34) were disappointing as well. I skipped the jalapeño, and while the scallops themselves were cooked very well, the roasted corn, poblano, and chorizo mixture was cold. That was just a strange combination and really took away from the dish. I think it would be significantly better if that component were served warm. I did bite into several pieces of rock-hard chunks of something in the dish. My guess is chorizo which was extremely off-putting. The scallops were also a little too salty. At $34, the price felt excessive for what was served. The Short Rib Gnocchi ($28) was actually very good. The short rib ragu, potato gnocchi, and truffle pecorino worked really well together. Would recommend. The Brix soda was another head-scratcher. Just why? We didn't enjoy it at all. I understand it's local but just no. And then there was the Spiced Cranberry Martini. Unless you like unusual, heavy spice flavors that remind you of Jägermeister, do not order this. It was by far the worst martini I've ever had. I even mentioned to our waitress that I thought it was awful, and there was zero response. Service itself was fine. We were seated immediately, and the food came out promptly and at good temperatures. Our waitress wasn't particularly memorable, though, and I would have expected at least some acknowledgment when I mentioned how bad the cocktail was. The parking situation was also an absolute nightmare, which didn't exactly get the evening off to a great start. Overall, the appetizers were head and shoulders above the mains. The focaccia and arancini were genuinely excellent, and the short rib gnocchi was good. But we would not order the scallops or Pesto Casarecce again. Sadly, we were very disappointed with the overall experience. We came in with high expectations because of the near-perfect reviews, drove two hours for the evening, and ultimately felt that TerraGR was very overrated. There were definitely some good dishes, but the overall experience simply didn't live up to the hype. We did get to sit outside which was great. read more

This is a delightful restaurant with great food, great service and great ambiance. Their thoughtful farm to table menu was outstanding. I'm sad I was only in town for one night because I was forced to pick just one item. I decided on the Short Rib Ragu Gnocchi. It was a good choice, but everybody's meals looked great. We had 8 at a table and our server did an excellent job engaging with everyone, getting our drinks out in a timely manner and serving us all at the same time. I tried someone else's Salmon and it was delicious also. 2 people got the hanger steak and gave it 5 stars. The prices were reasonable given the quality, freshness and presentation of our dinners. We got there just before happy hour ended and our server was nice enough to clue us in and we got a few appetizers and drinks before the prices went up. Definitely go if you get a chance. I'll be back if I find myself in GR's again. read more

Nothing better than pizza on a Sunday morning lol. We came to Terra right after our race (Grand Rapids Marathon Run Thru the Rapids) around 10:15 AM and were absolutely starving, so needless to say, we were ready to eat! I ordered the margherita pizza and really enjoyed it. It was exactly what I needed after fighting for my life on the course. Our host and servers were all exceptional and made the experience even better. It was a great way to celebrate finishing the race, and Terra continues to be a spot we enjoy coming back to. Another lovely visit! read more

Like many reviewers say, Terra does many things right. I think their pizza crust is the best in the city, but I wish there were more toppings to chose from. It's very pretty inside and I love watching the chefs do their thing. Staff is professional, attentive and friendly. Dessert portions are perfectly sized. Wine selection is limited and corkage fee is high. We've been here numerous times and have never left disappointed. read more

I had the best dinner here. Everything was so good but the highlight for the table was the meatball appetizers specifically with the bed of Roman gnocchi. The sauce had so much depth and the gnocchi complemented the meatballs so well. The vodka pasta and pesto pizza entrees were also winners. Pizza was hot out of the oven. Also props on their mocktail menu that does not make you miss having an actual drink! read more

I can see why people give Terra five star but since I ordered the wrong items. It is a 3 stars for me. 1.corn risotto taste exactly like cream corn from a can, with lime juice. $26. Chef did a good job making the risotto but the flavor was a shocker. I prefer regular risotto. 2. Lamb meatball, is just lamb kafta shape in meatball shape. I thought it would be Italian meatball since most items in the menu is Italian. If u come here, just get pizza and pasta. That's what everyone getting and they look good. Don't try to explore outside of that. read more

Easily one of my favorite restaurants in the Grand Rapids area! I love that they make their bread and pasta in house and gather as many items as they can from local farms in the area! Their menu is very nice and has something for everyone on it! Great appetizer options, salads, pastas, pizzas, and desserts! It's an easy recommendation from me because I find that this place hasn't missed yet:) Their brunch is also fantastic! Love that brunch pizza and the coffee cake! The staff is incredible! Always kind and on top of it And they just did some updating on their interior and it looks great! Check this place out if you're ever in the area! read more

This place is a must try in Grand Rapids! The hype is real and it was a perfect spot for valentines! Our server was really kind and attentive, we got a great seat by the window and had a lovely view of east town. I had the pie in the sky cocktail which tasted like liquid apple pie and was delicious. Smooth but strong. My husband got the mushroom risotto which came with lovely chunks of locally grown mushrooms on top. I had the scallops which were perfectly cooked and the couscous, mushrooms, and nuts paired really well with it. Great atmosphere and will definitely be back! read more

Ordered takeout from Terra GR tonight, and it did not disappoint! The Torecchiette dish was still warm and perfectly cooked when I got it home. It had a rich sauce with just a little bit of spicy kick to it. I loved it. The Kale Caesar salad was fresh and crisp. I will definitely be ordering that again. Everything was packed neatly! The portion sizes were large. I will be glad to have some leftovers tomorrow. It's hard to find takeout that tastes just as good as dining in, but they nailed it. Will definitely be ordering again soon! read more

If you come to Terra, get the pizza! Service was attentive, the space was clean as always and the food came out in good time. You don't come along fine gems like this very often so you are doing it wrong if you don't come here when you're in GR. Fantastic brunch menu and I've been told that the dinner is just as amazing! I had the Margherita pizza and can say with confidence that it was one of the top three Woodfire pizzas I've ever had. The sauce is robust and really sets it apart. Everything is made in house, even the fresh mozzarella on my pizza. The decor is modern yet simplistic is the vibe and you have an open kitchen view of the chefs working their magic! Absolutely phenomenal service and experience from start to finish. read more

What an absolute hit. From the seating to the atmosphere to the service and the food. Fortunate to come here with a few friends and we were celebrating so tried a bunch of menu options and saved some for leftovers. Everything we tried was honestly excellent. As expected, anything with bread in the meal was incredible. We have had Terra bagels before so that makes sense. The only thing I wouldn't order again was the dessert. Cake was a bit dry when we were hoping for a more sticky toffee pudding vibe. Or would go for the chocolate torte. Very reasonably priced and was basically a full house when we walked in for a Tuesday dinner time. Had no wait time though and service was quick. Special mention for the pâté. So so good. read more

The food was good and the environment was great for a "fancier" dinner. I didn't feel that the food was quite worth the price. There was no option to upgrade the burger chips to fries and while the pizza was good it was what I would typically expect of a marg pizza. read more

Terra - Birthday dessert - New American Near Me - Grand Rapids, Michigan

Previously, I had only come here once for a happy hour cocktail. This was my first time coming for dinner and it did not disappoint! Simple, comfortable decor with house music playing, but not too loud, still a family-friendly atmosphere. Our waiter was prompt but also gave us extra time when we needed it. For an appetizer, we shared the brussels sprouts, which for $16 was a big portion! We also shared the pesto pizza; it is neapolitan style pizza, which is my favorite. The crust was so good! We also shared the short rib ragu gnocchi which had a good amount of shredded short rib, and the gnocchi were cooked like a soft pillow. If I needed dessert, I probably would've tried the pistachio cheesecake that was on the "specials" menu. I think I had heard mixed opinions about this restaurant as a dinner spot, but I would recommend it! read more

Terra hits the spot every-time, their brunch menu is small but very curated, the service always hits the mark and the ambiance is charming. The restaurant boasts a pizza oven, an open kitchen concept. I would like to see more of a rotating brunch menu and the drink prices did not do it for me, $9 for a 4 ounce mimosa seemed a bit steep for me. I also didn't enjoy the beat margarita, but the server was very attentive to it and insisted I order something different. The service was amazing, the extra care for a birthday menu, and dessert was unmatched. And good lord, I dream about the hair of the dog dish. 3.5/5 stars strictly due to pricing. read more

Terra - Mushroom Pizza Pepperoni Hot Honey Omelette Hair of the Dog Bowl - New American Near Me - Grand Rapids, Michigan

Terra is a restaurant that would be hard to find with the outside of the building being right by Terra Bagels, and the door not having any discernment of Terra GR. Parking is validated, in the parking lot to the right of the building. We stumbled upon this restaurant due to their social media posting of how they source their ingredients as well as how their chefs creative flow works. Our waitress was phenomenal and explained the way Terra was formed, what they were passionate about, and specials. There wasn't a moment I felt the need to find my waitress, and she had an instinct of knowing when to check in when we needed something. Magnificent Bastard - Floral, Citrus, Strong Thornwhip - Sweet, Pleasant, Smooth Mussels were salty and had a lot of umami. Mussels were steamed perfectly, causing it to almost melt in your mouth which I have never experienced with mussels before. The broth/sauce it is steamed in is very intense and flavorful, getting this during happy hour almost feels wrong, and should be an absolute must get everytime. Beet and Burrata salad was fresh, subtle pickling flavor, and very smooth and creamy. I think more pistachio and a little bit more salt would've brought this to the next level. Kale Caesar salad is the traditional salad and was very saucy. My partner thoroughly enjoyed the salad. Hot Honey Pizza - Has mild spice, nothing too overpowering, and is a very savory dish. I believe the cheese is homemade, or at least it tasted like it. One of the best pizzas I've had. I wish it had a bit more spice to it, but that could probably be accomplished with a side of red pepper flakes. Mushroom Risotto w/scallops - Scallops were cooked perfectly, felt like they were basted in butter with how rich and flavorful they were. The seasoning on this dish was absolutely perfect and brings you to maximum flavor town. Risotto was cooked perfectly as well. Overall I think if you look at a keyword I used, it would be perfect. Everything here is thought out, well articulated, presented with intention, and done with passion. I highly recommend visiting here if you haven't already, it is a hidden gem in Grand Rapids that I feel doesn't get enough love. read more

I have been to Terra a lot of times, but not once sat at the bar. To be honest, I never even noticed the bar. I brought my husband here for the first time and we bellied up to the bar and had a great experience. I ordered the hot honey pepperoni pizza, gluten free and it was so good. I asked the bar tender how the gf crust was, he said it's one of the best he has ever had, I agree! It was so good!! My husband had the house hamburger with the Cesar, kale salad and loved both!! Terra has been such a staple in GR for many years that I sometimes forget that it's there (especially since I don't venture into Eastown very often). However, my friends and I went recently for brunch and really enjoyed it! There's a lot of metered street parking but there is also a parking lot next door that you can get validated (who doesn't love free parking?!) if you dine in. My friend and I split the breakfast pizza and it was more than plenty for us to share plus take home for leftovers! It's a lovely woodfire pizza with eggs, sausage, potatoes and a lovely little drizzle sauce. Perfect brunch, with plenty to go around and share! I definitely enjoyed my experience and feel like I need to go back and try their dinner menu again soon. It's been so long that I'm not sure if they've changed their menu and would love to check it out. read more

Terra is an absolute gem, and I can't sing its praises enough! The food is a delightful symphony of flavors, and the ambiance? Simply breathtaking. This place is a visual feast; it's just so pretty! One of the standout features for me is their happy hour - it's a taste bud party! The dishes are not just delicious but also thoughtfully crafted. From the first bite to the last, every morsel is a journey of taste. And guess what? They've got a parking lot in the back, and they'll validate your ticket. I've had the pleasure of visiting Terra for both brunch and happy hour, and personally, I believe happy hour is the star of the show. It's like a gourmet adventure at a steal. The service here is top-notch too - the staff is friendly, attentive, and adds to the overall wonderful experience. Terra is a place where culinary artistry meets unparalleled ambiance, and it's an absolute must-visit. Mmmm Terra GR is one of those local favorites that I always recommend to visitors and newcomers to GR. They are always reliable for a fresh and satisfying meal. You can never grow tired of Terra as they update their menus from season to season as well. This last time I visited, my friend and I started out with the focaccia and whipped feta. Soo good! The focaccia was fluffy and the feta/olives/olive oil mixture was a perfect addition on top of the bread. We then moved on to our pasta dishes - the rigatoni bolognese and the pesto spaghetti. These dishes had the perfect amount of seasoning and weren't too salty. We both had leftover pasta to bring home as well. For drinks, I tried out the beet margarita and loved it! Was a nice tease of summer in a glass. read more

For starters we called in to put in a take-out order and we were put on hold for 10 minutes. We then just hung up and decided to order online. We noticed the prices were +$2 more for ordering online for each item compared to the menu on their website. That should have been a reason enough to avoid but we wanted to try it after driving by for several years now. We paid $90 for 2 sides and 2 entrees plus tip. The roasted vegetables were cold and unappetizing. The carrot dish was waaay too spicy and had very few carrots. The rigatoni was over cooked, mushy and overly salty. The gnocchi plate lacked integrity, was very mushy, bland and not light and fluffy as one would expect a $28 plate of gnocchi to be. Would not order from Tera again. read more

We had a gift card and decided to try out brunch. There was no wait on a Saturday afternoon and we were seated quickly at the bar. I ordered a beermosa and my husband ordered something gingery (his was better) for food we opted to try the biscuits and gravy with an egg added and he got the salmon Benedict. They were quicker made and served up. The biscuits were the star. The gravy was delicious and creamy! The salmon was also good but a little dry. After my meal, I had a second drink the Terra garden, which if you like a savory cocktail is absolutely perfect! read more

Terra has been a go-to spot for me for years. The menu is not necessarily super innovative or unique, but they do certain things really well and I've stopped by several times in the past few months. The kale Caesar salad used to be my favorite at Terra. I've since found a better version of this salad elsewhere, but usually Nate and I will still order a small one to split. Their wood-fired pizzas are really yummy and I just had the brunch pizza again for the first time in ages. It was tasty but I didn't love the super thick cut bacon as it was a bit fatty. Service is usually great at Terra, and they'll write your name on the menu if you're celebrating a special occasion. Definitely make a reservation for dinner at Terra, as they do fill up quickly and there's not a ton of space to wait inside. Terra offers gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options. It's also cool that they use local farms and suppliers. Note that they don't have a fryer, so you won't be able to get fries with your burger or sandwich. Pastas and desserts are usually well done at Terra. There is validated parking available in the structure next door and there are a few street spots right outside. Last time I was there I had to park a few blocks away, but there's residential street parking nearby. read more
