Surprisingly, the bowl was pretty fresh and nothing tasted fishy or weird. They also give you a such a good amount and I had a hard time finishing my bowl without feeling disgustingly full. The service was relative quick, but the place was quite busy and quickly filled up at lunch time with kingfu tea. Overall, I would come back here again for the portion and price.

But also, the Poke is good, the fish is fresh, and you've got a good variety of toppings to choose from. They've got an assortment of proteins (but salmon is my one true love), mix ins (pick 4), and toppings (pick 2). They've got all the sauces you can want (spicy mayo is my fave.) And they've got THREE different kinds of rice, or salad to make the tasty bed upon which your fish will rest. (I would love it if you could do a half rice, half lettuce option.) For people who don't eat raw fish, there is cooked chicken, eel, crab, calamari, shrimp, and tofu. The restaurant itself is clean and modern, with several tables and a gender neutral bathroom. And! You can get bubble tea too! Hooray for some Hawaiian deliciousness in an already diverse and delicious neighborhood!

This location is consistent with the quality and service at its other location in Englewood. Interior is clean and bright with a large group table and bar seating. You can build your own bowl or choose from a signature menu with pre-selected ingredients. I built my own (~$17) and filled out a sheet with a list of ingredients. You can choose 2 bases, 2 proteins, 6 toppings, 2 sauces, and 4 garnishes. Just a side note for those who don't like raw fish: they have options with cooked meat like shrimp tempura and fried chicken. I chose brown rice, spicy tuna, smoked salmon, mango, pineapple, tamago, seaweed salad, pickled ginger, red onion, nori, candied walnuts, and cashews. I topped everything off with spicy mayo and ponzu soy sauce. Service was super quick as I was the only one there. Everything was fresh! My bowl was sweet, savory, and spicy. It was just the right portion size to satisfy my hunger, but not enough to put me in a food coma.

My personal preference is salmon so of course the Skuna Bay bowl was my favorite! As for the drinks, I was honestly shocked that the hibiscus and cranberry tea was my favorite because hibiscus is usually sour but this mix of flavors made it so refreshing! I loved the fast casual style of the restaurant - you can either get take out or stay and eat your fresh bowl by the big windows!

I ordered a salad bowl, and the ordering process is actually kind of interesting. They give you a paper with different options, and you check off what you want in your bowl. Everything came out pretty quickly, but the food isn't exactly hot, more like warm. Only the protein and rice are cooked, while any veggies you add come out cold, which is something to keep in mind. I also tried the pork gyoza, which were just okay. The overall service was also pretty average; the workers weren't particularly friendly. Overall, it was an okay experience, but nothing that really stood out.

Prices vary by dish or drink. I wouldve posted pics but I devoured it all.

I also enjoy the kitchen apps and entrées- the miso eggplant and agedashi tofu are great appetizers. The salmon teriyaki is always perfectly cooked and accompanied by fresh vegetables. As other reviewers have mentioned- the construction of the rolls can suffer at times- for me this usually looks like 1 at most 2 pieces losing their integrity when I pick them up. My friends and I agree that this is Riverdale, not A sushi hotspot desitation and we would rather sacrifice a point on the physical construction /proper sushi technique than go somewhere else that has beautiful perfectly rolled sushi- with less fresh fish or rolls that are more rice than filling. Also- the sushi IS good! I usually go for salmon, tuna and a sweet potato tempura roll The lunch specials (monday-saturday until 3:15 pm) are a really good deal and come with pretty good miso soup and a fresh side salad. I am appreciative that they run a little later in the day as well. Aoyu has always been very reasonable abt modifications- there is no upcharge for brown rice for lunch bento- easy to request veggie instead of pork gyoza, and I really don't like crab- imitation or otherwise- so they always let me sub a cucumber avocado roll instead. Thanks for being such a great restaurant in riverdale Aoyu!
