The restaurant staff was great. However, I had been given a DoorDash gift card for Father's Day and tried to use it here. Long story but dealing with DoorDash was a nightmare. I placed my order for delivery, but was then notified thatI had to pick it up. When I got to this restaurant, they said DoorDash had not forwarded my order. I was taking my grandson out for his birthday lunch. He chose sushi, American ichi. Sadly they're closed on Mondays. So we went to the Teriyaki Junction which is in the same strip mall as American ichi. Very disappointing, environment is...old. The California roll was fake crabmeat and cucumber rolled up in rice...very dry. Miso soup bland and cold. The Bento box I got one side of teriyaki beef and two sides of teriyaki chicken with sides of lettuce with some sweet type of dressing and white rice. The rice was OK my grandson said it didn't taste right. All three meat sides had same teriyaki sauce. The beef was thinly, slightly dry and disappointing. One of the two chicken dishes was ok the other had a strange taste for me. I will never go back and would not recommend. read more

Great Japanese food for Placerville! I'm sticking with 4 stars on this after reading all the reviews and thinking about them. And most importantly after having sampled the place myself! This place was recommended by a co-worker as having good food and good people running it. He was right. I asked for a tofu and vegetable dinner and got a tasty and flavorful meal for $10 including hot tea. the tea was free with the meal actually and came in ceramic cups, very nice tea too. I am from Sacramento, Not from around town, moved to the area 2 months ago and looking for some Good sushi. I got the spicy California roll they used imitation crab meat (like they took it out of the package and put it in, not fresh, didn't make anything with it, just full on imitation crab ALONE) and it was disgusting! I mean like really bad!!!! I Also got the chicken teriyaki bowl and the teriyaki sauce they put on the chicken looked and tasted like gravy! I mean I HATE leaving these negative reviews but I will NOT come here again. Normally my kids love teriyaki chicken and rice from ANY place but when we ate here here they threw it away and told me to never come back. I threw it away before I could take a photo, I mean that's how bad it was. I'm sad because since I moved out here EVERY Asian food place I have tried is very bad! I love eating here! It's a great place to grab food on the way to/from Tahoe, but the locals love it too. Avoid the line (and crappy food) at McDonald's and get some teriyaki. They also have a few Korean food items on the menu. I always get the chicken wrap or noodles, but the chicken bowl is most filling! If you want a combo meal, their bento boxes are great. I also recently tried the fried cod combo and loved it. Ask for brown rice if you're a health freak! read more

Honestly some people may complain that it's simple, but I love it. I get just a standard chicken bowl every time and the sauce is perfect, the chicken is perfect, the rice is perfect, it's just great. It costs about what I believe it should cost and I believe I'm getting a fair deal for a quite above average meal. read more

Loved this place when driving back from Tahoe! It's super casual here. Just walk up to the counter, order and pay. The woman at the register is nice and helped me to navigate through their extensive menu! I ordered stir fried noodles with loads of veggies (broccoli, cabbage, zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, etc). They asked me if I wanted it spicy and I asked for extra spicy. It was perfectly spicy and really delicious! The California rolls were just okay - nothing different nor special. Order at the front and pay for yourself, doesn't get much simpler than that. Owners were really nice and let me bring my own drink in from McDonalds. The chicken teriyaki here was the cheapest. I wasn't expecting much from this and I guess i was pleasantly surprised that it tasted decent. The food is really good here, at least what I have gotten which is the salmon teriyaki, beef teriyaki, and California rolls. I ask for extra sauce because sometimes it is a bit dry for my taste and the prices are reasonable. The hours here are terrible and when they began closing all weekend, I thought they were certainly going out of business. Hopefully they figure out how to stay afloat. read more

Maybe 1.5 stars? The food just wasn't good. Based on the reviews, we stopped on our way through Placerville. We all ordered teriyaki bowls, thinking them a good choice since teriyaki does seem to be the signature dish. First of all, when we got back the car, I realized they forgot one order. Apparently, the guy forgot to include it in the order. Despite forgetting it, us having to come back, etc, he still made us pay for it (full price). The food was white rice, grilled meat on top, and then DROWNED, really drowned, in awful teriyaki. Even the tweens complained there was too much sauce. It was salty, oily, and I think the garlic had turned. I requested (and paid for) veggies to be added to mine. The guy asked if I wanted all broccoli (because it would cost more). I said I wanted a mix. Guess what? It was cabbage with two carrot shavings. If we hadn't taken out, I would have returned the food. It was just edible enough to stave off our hunger. read more

I was really surprised about how much I liked this place. What really made me give them a 5 star rating is the phenomenal customer service they provided. The staff was very sweet and went above and beyond to make sure they could satisfy us. They had made one minor mistake and expressed how sorry they were and gave me a free drink while a waited for them to fix it. It wasn't even a big deal, but they were wonderful about making sure we were happy. This place has been here for years and this was my first time. So, this was great first impression! read more

I'm confused by the bad reviews recently. I have lived here my whole life and hadnt been to this place in about 15 years. My husband moved here not to long ago and has been eating here for lunch with coworkers and raved about it. So over the weekend we decided to go so I could have it again. Wow. So delicious. Had a beef and veggie noodle stir fry. It was great! Veggies were fresh. Good portions of meat and veggies. And there wasnt a ton of sauce, perfect amount actually. And the portion was awesome. I tried Teriyaki Junction recently and was pleased with it. The Teriyaki chicken was quite good, with the sauce being sweeter than many other places I've tried. I like the chicken to be slightly charred on the outside, as though it was cooked over a flame, and I this chicken didn't have that texture. I also ordered a Cali roll and it was a little lacking. The roll itself was pretty good but it had an overabundance of sesame seeds and green flakes (seaweed?) heaped on top which I scraped off. I'll be back for the chicken and to try some other items most likely. read more

In a strip mall, you wouldn't think to try this place - but do. It's good. Bento box lunches, some sushi, soba, and ramen, and sake to wash it down with - nice. The prices are reasonable. If the weather is nice, and you're willing to brave the traffic noise from people trying to park for Rite Aid, there's patio tables to sit at. I haven't been there at dinner time, but I like it for lunch. read more

They are awesome! Customer service and food are top notch. When my husband had cervical spine surgery, the only thing that helped his throat was their Miso Soup. It's hard to pick a favorite because everything they serve has a time and place. So glad they are here! Definitely worth the stop if you are passing through to Tahoe. read more

I absolutely love this place. I worked next door at Baskin Robbins during high school and I would always get my dinner from here. My favorite is the Veggie Noodle Stir-Fry. My dad wanted a chicken and beef bowl, but the owner only pointed to the chicken bowl on the sign and my dad gave up on trying to add beef. I ordered a combo tempura, California roll, and chicken plate that came with salad. Our two meals ended up being around $35. For a marginally overpriced $11 or $12, you've got yourself a nice little Bento with salad, rice, and THREE varieties of protein smothered in one of the best Teriyaki sauces I've had. Not too sweet, not too salty. Quite simply, it was precisely what one on a teriyaki adventure would hope for.
