10. Garlic Chicken
Jude A.

I ordered the short ribs with a side of garlic chicken (mild). The short ribs were very flavorful and well-seasoned. The garlic chicken was exceptionally delicious. The accompanying carrots, cabbage, and rice were fresh as well.

4/24/2024 - So I finally got to try this little restaurant for the 1st time: Teriyaki Chicken Express. Address 9110 Kiefer Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95826. The food pictures look so good. We just went through the drive thru. Now... this is just my opinion and my experience. It may be different for others. Cons We got the plate that had double chicken, veggies, and rice. Our chicken was on the very dry side. The rice was kinda hard soft, or so my little one told me. My little one didn't like the rice so didn't eat it. Normally loves eating rice tho. The two sauces we got were watered down and not much flavor, sadly. One was teriyaki and the other was the sweet sauce for the eggroll. We did not like the sauces. So luckily I had my own sauce at home and use that instead. Pros I loved veggies, so the veggies were great! I just had to add a little salt and pepper... and WhaLaa!! Yummy veggies. There is no flavor in the veggies. FYI. My little one liked the sweet and sour pork. Ate that all up. But my little one said the other sweet/sour pork from another restaurant we've been to had much more flavor and much tastier. Conclusion We didn't go inside. So I can't comment on the inside. The drive thru was quick and easy. Large menu outside. The guy that took our orders at the window was nice. Sad chicken was dry, eggroll wasn't very good (had perfect crisp tho), rice on the harder side but still edible, and sauces were watered down so there wasn't much flavor. Good that my little one ate the pork. Veggies were great after I add a little salt and pepper to my liking (I prefer to do that on my own so not to salty). This is just my experience. This is not to put them down. But we weren't too thrill about their foods. Not very tasty. Maybe your experience may be different from mine. But should I ever decide to go here again to give it a 2nd chance, I'll update my review. You should go try them yourself and see how you like them and have your own experience.

Pork and chicken teriyaki rice plate!

A no-frills establishment that has a drive thru! I was on my way home from volunteering at the California Raptor Center and wanted something simple, delicious, and affordable. Teriyaki Chicken Express caught my eye on Yelp and was conveniently in the same direction as I was heading. I ordered at the speaker and in less than 10 minutes, I had my food. I opted for the pork and teriyaki chicken rice plate, and chose the beef and teriyaki chicken rice plate for my husband (I forgot to get a photo of his as we were hungry and it was late). All meats were cooked perfectly, not overcooked but still tender. The veggies were as expected for being steamed and similar to other teriyaki places I've tried in the past. I will say that the meat is of better quality than other places I've gotten teriyaki plates from. There was a good amount of rice underneath too, which we were happy to note. The meat to rice ratio was excellent, as sometimes you get too much rice and not enough meat. The plates came with only one small sauce container each. While sitting at the drive thru, I saw the sign that extra sauce only costs 25 cents extra. I should have snagged extra sauce for both of us, as it would have made the rice more flavorful. I'll get more sauce next time I go, and I would recommend whoever tries Teriyaki Chicken Express to do the same. We had sriracha at home, so we used some to dip the meat in, and it was delicious (pro tip)! With tax, both of our plates came out to $25, which is amazing considering the amount of meat we both got. I would like to try another set of teriyaki plates next time. I did see they offer salmon teriyaki on the menu and that piqued my interest. Overall, don't expect anything mind-blowing. It's healthy, it's tasty (with the right amount of sauce), and it does the job for a good cheap meal that beats paying the same price at McDonald's or another fast food place. PS: In case you live a ways from Sacramento (which we do), as this place isn't really the type where you sit down in, bring a hot/cold bag (I have a Trader Joe's one), and it holds up pretty well in travel. You may need to microwave the food a little, but as far as food safety and texture/taste are concerned, it does just fine compared to say bringing ramen home and reheating it.

Been here long time ago wanted and wanted to check it out again. The food was good, the lil cocky fella behind the register was rude. Just walks away while we're in the middle of ordering. We sat down to eat but the thing that was really annoying was the fact that they had a scent machine that lets out this overwhelming aroma in the whole dinning area. Not to mention that smell was strong and nasty. I dont want to smell scent machines while eating at a restaurant. I want to smell the food thats cooking in the kitchen and the food that was brought out to me. That was the biggest disappointment. Food had a good flavor for the most part. It was served hot. The teriyaki chicken was good with nice grill marks. The garlic chicken was not garlicky at all, it lacked more sauce because it was kinda dry. Not the chicken it self but the actual outer coating of the chicken was dry. I'd go again but i'd get my food to go.

I've been to this place several times for a quick meal or pickup and I've never been disappointed with anything they offer. It's fresh , hot and made to order. The prices are very affordable and they have a drive through. If you love Teriyaki or Pho, or sandwiches they got it . I recommend this place anytime you're looking to get a tasty meal, portions are loaded ..

Shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce

Looking for a Teri spot similar to one from the city I lived in and I've finally found it. Delicious bbq Teri chicken covered in just enough Teri sauce, veggies were crisp and fresh and the rice was perfectly steamed. I also ordered the shrimp spring rolls, shrimps were sliced in half lengthwise. I would've liked whole shrimp but it was still tasty especially when dipped in the peanut sauce. My partner ordered the orange chicken and it was really yummy, light and crispy and just enough sauce to balance. I wanted to eat his meal too lol. The restaurant has drive through and dine in. Looks like the dining area was revamped from the last time I was here, much more inviting. There were a few groups of people eating in, lots of people for pick up and a line in the drive through. Not many places like this in Sacramento that I've found, large portions, fresh food, good value. Will definitely come back again.

Normally we have no issues but they got my order wrong today. Hopefully I can call and get it made right but I already made it home and unloaded my 2 kids so can't just turn around and head back. I ordered the seafood udon soup. Unfortunately didn't get it ‍

The best chicken teriyaki I've had. So juicy, soft and always. I recommend the noodles here too, so good also the yakitori. Clean places, the owners and employees are so nice and kind. Come here 2 or 3 times a week, highly recommended!!!

Haven't been able to come here in a while but the food is just as good as I remember. The spicy chicken was so crispy and the sauce was amazing. Teriyaki chicken is also solid as always. Family enjoyed it

Came here for dinner a couple of times, the first time I ordered the rainbow roll ($15) which is my barometer for sushi at restaurants. Decently sized, the fish was fresh and the roll was filling. Daughter ordered the ramen ($18) with the red option, which she enjoyed with the plethora of toppings. Dinner the second time, I got the teishoku set with salmon ($21). Two decently filets of salmon came with rice, miso soup, salad, deep fried egg roll and salad. You also get a choice of either croquette or chawanmushi. The chawanmushi was a highlight for me! I missed eating this savory custard when I used to live in Japan. Their version did not disappoint! This has spot has become a rotating staple for me and am looking forward to trying out more of their sushi rolls.

We ordered: Appetizers: Mixed Tempura 8/10 - wish it was a smidge flakier Grilled Squid 1000/10 - might just come back alone for this. Absolute perfection, no notes Mains: 18 piece Sashimi 10/10 - large slices, scallops were definitely the start- tho no higher rating due to no description on what was being served and slightly inconvenient design even though the presentation was pretty. Double Toro roll 8/10 - my date loved it, I'm just not a big roll fan Spicy scallop hand roll 9/10 - super delicious, scallops were fresh Unagi hand roll - 10/10 - I didn't even get to try it, my date loved it Tuna maki roll - 10/10 - simple, delicious We will definitely be coming back. I will say my only note is that we ordered the appetizers first and actually waited to order our mains in hopes that the appetizers would come out first. Instead my mains came out before the appetizers and then my dates came after the appetizers came out. Everything was delicious but I hope that isn't a common habit as it made the meal feel a bit rushed and the waitresses were commenting about how much we ordered and if we could eat it all... everyone was very nice though. A little cold in the actual restaurant but makes sense to keep the fish cold.

They have both bento boxes, sashimi sushi, and rolls. The sushi/roll selection is huge. They also have sushi boats for larger parties. They have a daily sushi special and a daily bento special. I decided to go for the bento box. The day I was there, it was spicy chicken, teriyaki, chicken, and. 2 gyoza. I ask how spicy the spicy chicken was, and she said it wasn't very spicy, but she would put the sauce on the side for me. The bento comes, and oh my, was it a lot of food. The gyoza were wonderfully crispy. I loved the salad, I'm not sure what the dressing was, she said it was their "house dressing". I believe it was a mayonnaise based dressing. it was a little bit sweet and a little bit tangy. . It was excellent. I loved the pickled vegetables, they provide provided a nice pop of acid. The rice was done just right, I used some teriyaki sauce sitting at the table on the rice, and it was perfect for the rice. They are located in a little strip mall off Folsom Blvd. right next to a laundry mat with a decent sized parking lot, with a little sign mentioning Mother's Day with pink balloons to commemorate the occasion. When we walked in we were immediately greeted and seated by a very sweet young lady named Violet who ended up also being our server. The inside was clean, with a wall of TVs that formed one large screen, lights on the walls, and they had pink heart balloons all throughout for the holiday. We had already picked the items we were interested in beforehand, and Violet let us immediately order. We got the Hamachi Kama, the Shrimp Daddy, The Northen Lights Wrap, 2 small bowls of miso soup, the BBQ Albacore, the House Wife Special Roll and the Philly Cheesesteak Roll. EVERYTHING tasted SUPER FRESH and incredibly delicious! We HIGHLY recommend the Shrimp Daddy and the Northern Lights Wrap, but honestly you can't go wrong with any of the items we selected. Violet was VERY professional, personable, and tentative and took great care of us. The other server, Gayane, was also very sweet and came over and gave my wife a miniature chocolate cake (made by a local bakery called Heavenly Pasteries) as a Mother's Day treat. Then at one point, Chef Maguro walked around and checked in with every customer and stopped at our table for a chat. Maguro was such an incredibly cool and talented guy. He told us he's been a sushi chef for about 28 years, and it shows. He's also responsible for all the delicious looking pictures on their website and in the restaurant. Not totally sure if Chef Maguro made ALL of our food, so we need to also shout out Chef Henry as well. This place is excellent! The food was super tasty, and the people working there really sold the experience. Thank you for being a wonderful server, Violet! Someone give this woman a raise! And thank you Chef Maguro for being a stand up, awesome guy! We will for sure be coming back again soon!!

Once we got to the restaurant we noticed a few people waiting in the lobby ahead of us but considering what night it was,I was fine with it.We ended up waiting about 20 minutes before we got our table. I will admit fully I have zero expertise at Korean restaurant, outside of occasional visits to a BBQ spot but at traditional sit down Korean restaurant,I was out of my element.Luckily for me,the daughter has spent multiple weeks in Korea thru her military service,so I felt like I was in good hands-I let her have total control of what we were eating that night, that wasnt easy for me to do. We ended up going with Fried Chicken in spicy sauce($22.95)-Seafood Fried Rice($18.95)-Soft Tofu Stew($17.95)-Hot Stone Beef Bibimbab($19.95),which along with the courtesy banchan was so much food-but I'd never been to this restaurant-I wanted to try some things. To drink we ended up going with some Blackberry wine($14.95) and my daughter went with a Milkis($1.95) drink-I just went with water but I did have my eye on some Soju, but decided against it since I wasn't sure what I was up against "food-wise". Once the food arrived which was lightning quick-I was in heaven, the 11 small dish banchan along with our dishes,I can't tell you which was best because everything I tasted was on point and kept getting better and better. My bibimbap was so fun to eat-I enjoyed the act of mixing it all up before trying it-was so tasty. The tofu stew came out piping hot and the flavor profile was like nothing I've had before-it was super enjoyable. If I had to say though, the star of the meal was that fried chicken in spicy sauce-holy smokes-large pieces of chicken drowning in the spicy sauce,it was a flavor overload that I couldnt get enough of-I loved them-I think I ate 80% of them-sorry wife and daughter-I couldnt help myself, they were awesome,I'd always heard how good Korean chicken was but now I can vouch for it-it's really really great-do yourself a favor and get this dish-it's awesome. In closing,if you ever find yourself in the mood to try a traditional Korean restaurant in the Sacramento area,I would without a doubt recommend Modurang Korean restaurant-it was a pretty amazing place and I'm glad I tried it-hope you feel the same way if u try it one day. PS-forgot to mention that Blackberry wine was delicious-another surprise of the night-very enjoyable.

It's pretty good! I came here May 2026 with a date. I had the ramen with karaage, my date got the…read morespicy tan tan men ramen. We got a California roll and a takoyaki to share. The karaage is a different style than I was used to, which wasn't my favorite, but it wasn't bad. The broth of the ramen isn't the richest, but it's good. The sushi was surprisingly good and refreshing. The rice and ingredients felt fresh. Generally, pretty good Japanese for the area. The whole meal felt pretty expensive-- it's 12 dollars for takoyaki, which feels a bit pricey for what you get.

Sucks to write this review as this used to be my go to spot for lunch. It's taken me a while to get…read moreto this review but I had to give others a heads up. I would often come around noon during the week, and order the Thai chicken bento box. Unfortunately one of the days I came, I found a fingernail in the California roll. Bit into the roll, and the fingernail as well. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Immediately lost my appetite and wanted to throw up. I flagged my server down (all the employees here are super nice), and showed her the fingernail. She took it to the back and reported it to a manager or supervisor I suppose. When she came back she told me that their California rolls are pre-made, so if you're ordering these rolls BE CAREFUL. She offered to remake the bento box to which I shared no. I asked for my tab and when she came back she said it was on the house and did not ask me to pay (nice gesture, but I mean when you find a whole fingernail in your food, that's the least that can be done). Safe to save, I have not gone back since then and probably won't. If I did, I'm definitely staying far away from the California roll. This happened to me last year, so hoping some changes in their hygiene and making of California rolls have been made since then.
