    Sushi with warm fish.
    Darcie D.

Twice we have gone & still it is not better than quickway. Like that is saying a lot. Both places are not better than McD's .... Price wise they both suck. This place is going to make people sick if they keep serving sushi with warm fish. The fish should be cold. I've never had fish that was as hot as the rice. If my husband didn't want to go back I would never go thankfully he doesn't anymore. After tonight we won't be back. Thankfully he has seen the light. This sushi pic looks as horrible as it tasted. I couldn't even eat it. It was my first time trying the sushi... I'm so frustrated in wasting money at places that don't care about food safety or customers. 1st time we went it was salty. 2nd time, I asked for no sauce/only veggies. So, I get a CHILD's serving but paid for a regular size because they don't understand .... If you don't get rice or noodles give EXTRA veggies. ALSO, is it too much to COOK THEM! I'm tired of eating raw cabbage and sorta cooked carrots and cooked broccoli. Why are we so not able to steam md grill veggies to the same tenderness. Who is cooking this. I could cook this when I was 10. Hire better. This place will close before it can truly open.

Beef was grey and weird tasting. The teriyaki was watery and too sweet. Noodles were mushy. Not very good, especially for the price.

Great food. Polite service. Very similar to Sarku Japan back when it was at its peak.

I opted for the fried rice and chicken teriyaki only but it comes with a chicken eggroll, which is DELICIOUS!

My husband and I definitely over-ordered, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, but they handled it graciously and we only ended up paying about $6 extra for the leftovers. Frederick has several places to find fresh sushi and sashimi. Given the cost of top-notch ingredients, dinner can be a pricey experience. At an all-you-can-eat price of $25.99 for dinner (less at lunch), Lantern Sushi provides a real bang-bang for the buck (pun intended). Set in a former Pizza Hut, Lantern has an inviting decor - but the acoustics are terrible. Spousal Unit and I struggled to hold any kind of conversation, even before the kids at the table behind us started yelling, without any response from their parents. Four Hispanic (!) sushi chefs pumped out an amazing variety and volume of sushi - mostly rolls, but sashimi is available for an additional price. The sushi looked better than it tasted; the rice was woefully underseasoned, the nori was a long way from bite-through, and the fish was underwhelming. Spicy tuna was finely minced, without any texture. The end pieces of the Spider roll were the only ones tasting anything like fried soft shell crab. White tuna had an oily off taste; escolar substituted for albacore maybe? Nothing was bad, nothing was great; everything was mediocre. Would I go back? Probably not; Frederick offers far better sushi in other restaurants. But I tried...

The menu is filled with lots of varied choices, including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai dishes. And to top it all off, the cost of this delicious food is VERY reasonable. Today, for lunch, I ordered Mongolian Beef, accompanied by hot and sour soup, which was perfectly seasoned and balanced, a spring roll, and rice. I had enough to take home left after consuming enough to be satisfied. I recommend that you make Modern Asia your "go-to" Asian restaurant.

SU ordered Kung Pao Shrimp, her "go-to" and every Asian restaurant, and compares each one to China Garden's version. Her verdict: Modern Asia's was "OK", and she told me I could eat the leftovers for my lunch. I did. My verdict was the same: OK, but nothing to write home to Mother about. (My comparison, BTW, is to a restaurant we enjoyed in Ithaca New York that made Kung Pao with peppers that would flay your face from the inside if you dared to eat one. Modern Asia's didn't even tickle, making it a let down). I ordered Seafood Combination Chinese Yellow Curry, a new dish for me. It was yummy. Described as one-pepper spicy on the menu, it had less heat than the Kung Pao, but the curry sauce had layers of flavor. It featured shrimp, scallops, and calmari plus a wonderful mix of peppers, onions, and other veg. All were nicely (crisply) cooked, even taking into account the Door Dash delivery time. I really enjoyed it. Next time I may ask for a bit more heat, but as it is, I hoovered up every morsel. Try it - you'll like it!

They have some small decorations here and there throughout the changing season but not much that take spaces. The temperature inside dining area always warm and warmer, which is comfortable, except if you need a restroom check, it's always cold there. The restrooms also clean most of the time. The buffet food area are the amazing part! They, the restaurant, always check on each food containers and refill anything that's looking less full than the container. All food are served hot, warm cool or cold as they supposedly serve and most importantly all are fresh food from the kitchen. The hibachi part also an amazing addition for the buffet, they can cook mostly anything and taste delicious. The sushi part also has a lot of options and all plates always filled with ready to eat sushi. Lunch and dinner menus are different, more premium food are available during dinner time, like coconut shrimps, seafoods from crawfish - crabs - muscles - oysters also steaks and prime ribs. Never had those last western food, as always looked overcooked at some point. But the most popular is the ice creams selection, mostly are Hersheys in single serving. All ice cream must be consumed dine-in. The building is large with plenty of parking. It has a medieval-vibe from the outside, although there's a plaque inside the front door saying the building was built in 2000. Once inside, it's fairly dark and continues with the old-mansion type atmosphere. There are lots of items hanging from the walls, older portrait photos, chandeliers, etc. very cool space. We were told at the front desk to go upstairs for the brunch (there is an elevator!). Once upstairs, we were greeted and sat in a corner table for two. The placement of the table was perfect, as there were a lot of families there for brunch, and I felt like we were being given an opportunity for more quiet. I noticed that the layout of the room placed tables for two and other smaller tables toward the outside. The server greeted us warmly and explained where things were and invited us to get started. The food: outstanding. The crab dip was thick from cheese and full of crab. The Maryland crab soup (didn't try the cream one) was full of crab and veggies, and the broth was flavorful. The salad was fresh, the chicken and salmon were both well prepared and delicious and the crab omelette was full from crab. There's also the traditional breads, eggs, potatoes, bacon and sausage. They all looked good, but I didn't take them seriously with all the other foods there. I went to get prime rib snd was given a huge piece freshly sliced. Outstanding. The outside was seasoned perfectly and the inside was moist and flavorful. You can get creamy horseradish, horseradish alone and au jus, which you serve yourself. The desserts included some pies (including key lime), cooked apples, brownies and there's fresh fruit at the salad bar. Service: Outstanding. Our server kept our water glasses, iced tea snd coffee filled and took our plates promptly. Bloody Mary - was $1 and I think it's a darn good Bloody Mary. Not fancy, but tasty. We came here looking for a new place to go for buffet brunch. We live over a half hour away, but do plan to come back for other occasions. It's a nice atmosphere with a very classy vibe, but good for families. Everybody seemed to be having a good time and enjoying themselves. And the service was excellent. The brunch ain't cheap (it's $46.95 per person), but there's outstanding prime rib, a real crab dip and two types of legit crab soups, along with other entrees (the salmon was so soft and flavorful - I was jealous because I can never get mine with such great texture), as well as traditional breakfast fare and a salad bar. Worth a visit. The restaurant's regular menu looks pricy, and some of the items on the regular menu are available on the buffet (prime rib, crab dip, crab soups, the chicken and the salmon).

Chicken fingers covered in deli ham smothered in gooey cheese with asparagus on top. Sounds good maybe if the chicken were prepared somewhat specially and not tough. Deli ham? You're kidding right? And the cheese; maybe it was American cheese spread or cheese whip. But the asparagus was nicely done. And it came with a twice baked potato and veggies that I would rate good. But the bad out weights the good. Preceding this was a forgettable salad of iceberg lettuce, carrots, and croutons. The best part of the meal were the rolls and butter and the water. I won't be back.
