Terry came as a referral from our real estate agent and we couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. We gave Terry's team an ambitious goal of:
1. Turning our 2/1 into a 2/2 with an ensuite in the master (ie. creating 2 brand new bathrooms)
2. Creating 2 new closets
3. Repainting the entire interior
4. Working around the electrician we chose, who updated our old knob and tube scheme while redoing the lighting in the house
5. Upgrading our plumbing
6. Adding a washer/dryer to our kitchen with matching cabinetry
Oh, we also needed all of this to be done in 4 months or less because my wife was due with our first baby. I'll break this review down into the areas that I considered important for this 5 star review:
Quality: Terry's team does quality work. While this is our first remodel, we didn't notice anything weird or any irreversible damage that wasn't addressed immediately. The things we noticed were an unevenly mounted toilet (fixed within 3 days), some stains in the white wall paint (fixed within 5 days), misaligned light fixture (fixed within 3 days), leaky tub faucet (fixed within a week), hot water not turned back on for the washer when we moved back in (very minor issue), and the incorrect finish installed for tub drain (fixed within 2 weeks). After pointing these issues out to Bevin, the project manager, she quickly coordinated all the fixes accordingly. Given this is our first time doing anything like this, we also sought a lot of advice from Bevin and Terry. This obviously isn't their first rodeo, so they provided some great pointers for us to consider and we couldn't be happier with the choices that we ended up with.
Our home truly feels brand new and we're going into our 5th month after moving back in and there are no issues.
Timing: As I mentioned above, we didn't have any wiggle room in our timeline and Terry was able to get us back in our home to settle in, make our baby's room, and relax a bit before our baby was born. They were very flexible with our request for them to work some weekends and before/after hours to hit the deadline.
Cost: From our research, TMC isn't the cheapest, but we feel confident that the quality that we received was worth the premium.
Communication/follow up: As mentioned earlier, Bevin, the project manager, was an excellent communicator. She responded quickly in all mediums: text, email, and phone and was extremely pleasant to work with. When she wasn't available, Terry himself would respond and handle any issues. We had absolute confidence in working with them and anyone from the team that we encountered.
Organization: We shared a Google Sheet with Bevin with all our materials selections. She stayed on top of this really well and as mentioned above, was very communicative with any questions or issues that came up.
I don't think any remodel job can be perfect, so below are a few issues that came up:
Deviations from the architecture diagram: There were many moving parts here that caused a chain reaction with the placement of certain things. Because we created a new subpanel, that impacted the plumbing, which impacted the shower orientation, which impacted niche placement, which impacted the framing to mount a towel hook. It's pretty crazy to think, but we didn't realize this until the very end. I'm not sure what could've solved this problem; perhaps a better dialogue with the architect throughout the process. In the end, we're still happy where everything ended up.
Reordered materials: There were maybe 1 or 2 deviations from our initial selected materials that needed to be ordered in different sizes despite proposing the entire list (over 100 items) long before the work began. Because of the delay, it was long after the return period for our materials and we had to sell private party to make up for the casualties.
We've already recommended TMC to a number of friends and family and for any future work, we'll most certainly contact him. read more
