Shane and crew did a great job on my whole house remodel in Glen Park. We added a bathroom to the garage level, redid the whole layout of the house, moving walls, etc, remodeled the kitchen, bathrooms, and relocated a staircase. Their quality of work is very good by SF standards and they are fast. The prices are competitive and I would definitely recommend them to others, in fact I already have! Thanks, Shane and crew! read more

We have worked with Shane Hegarty and his crew on a couple of projects and have been extremely satisfied with both the expert skilled work he does as well as the professional and timely completion. Shane offers a fair price and meets the deadlines agreed upon. As we have more projects that come along, we will ALWAYS call Shane. Our previous projects were full remodels of 2 Bathrooms, and a kitchen, and prior to that he and his team created built-in shelving units and some retro fit exterior projects. Will definitely recommend this company to neighbors and friends. read more

I should probably start with saying that I do my research. I get at least 3 quotes - digging for details to understand the problem and what will be done to solve it - and get references. Having heard the nightmares people have gone through with their contractors, I was nervous about hiring my first one. But I can say that I would recommend Shane Hegarty and his crew unreservedly. Our building needed a wall torn down, two large windows reinstalled correctly, and new siding put on. Shane and his carpenter Steven (plus a few subcontractors) managed to do the whole job efficiently without cutting any corners. A few things that really stuck out for me: a) They are fast: the two men worked very quickly without any sacrifice in quality. They don't spend time dicking around or chatting up a storm. Anytime you look out there, they are WORKING. b) They are nice: Shane and his crew have a very gentle manner and a great sense of humor (for the 5 minutes a day you might chat with them before they get back to work), so they are very easy to have in your space. They are as minimally disruptive as you can imagine while having contractors banging away. c) They are responsible: Shane will answer any of your questions and take your calls whenever you have concerns. Anything that he can manage to fix, he will do. d) They are cost-conscious: Shane will tell you what you DON'T need in an effort to save you money. He hates people wasting money and I grew to trust his assessment of things. He came right in on time and budget, and we couldn't be more satisfied. I have already recommended him to our neighbors. You will be in great hands with Hegarty Construction. read more

So, if you've read my other reviews, you'll see a pattern - I really can only be bothered to write about things that suck or **Things That Rock**. (And that I'm a picky beezie). Shane just finished a kitchen remodel for us, and WOW - I am over the moon! I mean, having construction done in your home while you're living there is always a bit of a bummer, but Shane showed up reliably, finished the job in a timely manner, was on budget (YES - ON BUDGET), only used truly professional sub-contractors, and was super accommodating when we decided that after we had bought the the tile that it was wrong. All wrong. It went a little something like this: Me: Oh good you started on the tile. Shane: Yes. Me: Um ... it looks different than in the store. I don't remember it looking like that. It's the same tile? Shane: Yes. Me: (Long pause). It's kind of .... I don't think I like it. No I don't like it in here. The lighting makes it look sort of institutional, don't you think? Like a sanitarium or something? (never been to a sanitarium) Shane: It's really a matter of personal preference. Me: (Internally panic is building; mumbles) ...personal preference.... Me: OH GOD (wailing) it's horrible. Oh god! Now what?? I HATE this tile - I don't want it in here! Oh sh*t - are we stuck with this, it's really all wrong (etc in same vein for next few minutes) Me: (small voice) Can you take it out? Can we get new ones? Side note: Initially spent hours and days discussing the relative merits of various tile with Shane, who was very patient with me. I wanted to contrast to the countertop that he found for us at a deep discount. Apparently this is not how it's frequently done, which was gently suggested at the time. Shane: Yeah, no worries. (Then lists out several places to look at other styles of tile that might even be a better deal than these). And he didn't even roll his eyes at me. So, now we have this lovely, functioning new kitchen with wonderful tile that I get to sit in with my cup of coffee every morning before the rat race begins. It's my oasis, a center of Zen-like moments. So, thank you Shane, for giving me this beautiful new kitchen! (And you all should hire him - that's my thought). read more

Shane and his partner (I think they have now opened separate businesses) did amazing work on our remodel. They were very disciplined in their work ethic - arrived every day at 8am to start work. They delivered high quality work, both their in-house work as well as the subs they worked with. Their prices were very reasonable as well. Most important, they were very concerned that we were absolutely pleased with their work and were quick to re-do something if we weren't satisfied. Shane really made us feel like our satisfaction was of the utmost importance, even if took him or his workers extra time. Remodels can be very stressful and Shane's work really put us at ease. I highly recommend him. read more

I just got my own place in the eastbay and I absolutely fell in love with my new home. It was almost like love at first sight when I saw this place. However, I knew my place still needed a lot of work, makeup and a face-lift. Therefore, the first week I moved in, I began my search for a perfect general contractor for this beautification project and I came across Hegarty Construction through word of mouth. I met up with Shane (general contractor) and explained to him in detail about what I envisioned for my renovations. Not only was Shane very flexible with his time for our first meeting, considering I only had time to meet on a weekend, he was very attentive to what I needed in order to make my place become exactly the perfect home I was looking for. During our first meet, I went into detail about the finishing touches I would like for my kitchen, bathroom and patio. I expressed my concerns about what needed to be fixed or repaired and replaced. If u knew me, I'm very detail-oriented, organized, and despise clutter. With that in mind, I even brought pictures at our first meet to show him the areas I considered flaws in my home. After a thorough research on different general contractors, my mind was made up to hire Shane, especially based on what others have said about his and his team's diligent work ethics. Yet, I was worried Shane might think the projects I was hoping to hire him for would be a bit too overwhelming. So two things came to my mind... 1.) he will either overcharge me for such an enormous project... or.... 2.) he will turn me down and perhaps refer me to other contractors, considering this project was over the top. However, Shane remained calm, cool and collected and gladly agreed to work on this job after listening to my plans. Not only was he intuitive to what I needed for my place, he was also like a home consultant sharing great suggestions for better end results. When it was time to get down to business, I was impressed with Shane's professionalism and knowledge with his expertise; I was grateful how he and his team worked efficiently in a timely manner. He held his team accountable, and they were all very determined and respectful in getting the job done quickly. There were times I worked from home, yet I did not feel distracted at all while his team was there. I would just lock myself in my bedroom to finish work, and when I came back to the kitchen a couple hours later, you can definitely see the progress and no time was wasted. This only means that the money I paid was worth every dollar! And during the days I worked from my office, I was comfortable to trust Shane and leave my home with Hegarty Construction. What I appreciated most about Shane's service was the fact that he worked with my finance. I wasn't sure if I could afford an extensive project to be completed that included three renovations to be all done simultaneously. I have heard horror stories where contractors take too long to finish a job when it's not within the homeowners financial budget or how people would have to switch contractors to get the job completed. I was dreading this project would take forever or be too expensive. Yet, Shane was very reasonable with his pricing and assured me that the project is possible. Hiring Shane was not only killing two birds with one stone, but also killing THREE birds with one stone. Shane and his team completed all three projects for my kitchen, bathroom and patio in a sufficient time frame. Shane and his team were kind enough to even work on a few miscellaneous tasks such as setting up my new dining room table, book shelf and TV stand. In a nutshell, three words that describe Hegarty Construction are 1.) diligent, 2.) trustworthy 3.) flexible with time Thank you Shane for all your help! I will definitely contact Hegarty Construction again for any other projects and let my family and friends know about your excellent service! read more

If you're looking for an honest, dependable licensed contractor, Shane Hegarty of Shane Hegarty Construction, is your man. Everyone has heard or experienced the horror stories regarding contractors ... the missed appointments, shoddy workmanship, the unfulfilled promises and escalating costs., etc. With Shane you are dealing with a professional and don't have to worry about any of those things. My house had a dry rot problem. Shane listened patiently to my needs and expectations and came up with recommendations and an agreed upon action plan. His work was executed within the exact time frame and budget that he had originally quoted. He showed me step-by-step the phases of the work so I knew exactly what was going on. While he was at my place, he also agreed to do a couple of small repair jobs that I had been neglecting. He and his assistant were respectful, neat and tidy. Shane also pointed out to me other issues that needed addressing, without trying to up-sell me. Shane is a jewel and I will definitely use him again. Quality work, excellent customer focus, fair price; this is what you'll get from Shane Hegarty and his crew at Mizen Builders. Mizen builders just finished a complete remodel of our bathroom, which is quite large. It was a "down to the studs" remodel, with new plumbing, new electrical, and new tile. Everything was done to code. No shortcuts were taken. We contracted with Mizen Builders based on a recommendation from a friend who is also a contractor. Shane came and looked at the proposed job, asked a lot of questions about the specifics of what we wanted, made a couple of useful and insightful suggestions, and told us how the job would go and how long it would take. When we were all on the same page, he went off and prepared his bid for the job. This time spent up front was key to ensuring that the job produced the product that we wanted, while staying on time and within our budget. A lot of the work was done by Shane's subcontractors - tilemen, plumbers, electricians - working under Shane's direction. They were all great. Shane has obviously made a strong effort to get the very best subcontractors on his jobs. They all worked to the same standard. Quality work, cleanliness, timeliness, honest and polite interactions with us. The job was done to our complete satisfaction. It was on time and on budget. There were no surprises along the way. Shane emphasized along the way that we had to be satisfied with the result at each step or he'd re-do it until we were. Obviously, since he has this attitude, everything was done to our complete satisfaction. Our new bathroom is lovely. We're glad that we used Mizen Builders. We'll use them again on our next job. read more

Shane coordinated the update of our 17 year old condo, specifically updated the kitchen with new countertops, paint, new appliances. He installed recessed lighting and crown molding and painted throughout. He was always immediately available either by phone or email and very responsive to any need or concern. He often met us on weekends for our convenience and even accompanied us to the granite showroom on 2 occasions. He was very attentive to detail and left the condo spotless. It was a pleasure to work with him! read more

If Yelp allowed six stars, that's what I would give Hegarty Construction. We hired Shane and his team to do a major remodel on our San Francisco home and it went brilliantly. From day one, the thing that most impressed us was that he was really concerned about doing things the right way and not taking short-cuts. He maintained extremely high standards for every facet of the project and held all of his sub-contractors to the same expectations. The entire team was professional, highly-skilled, respectful of our home, and polite. Throughout the course of the project Shane's crew arrived like clockwork before 8am every morning and was often there after 6pm. They even worked Saturdays which probably saved us three weeks off the total time of the project. Every day it was clear they'd put in a full day's work and made good progress. At the end of each day, the crew did their best to clean up the work area which was extremely important since we lived in the house with our child during the project. Shane is also extremely responsive in terms of answering the phone and emails, even on weekends and evenings. He always seems to be available. In any project of this size, there will always be things that don't turn out quite how you envisioned. Whenever we weren't completely happy with something, which was rare, Shane got things right without hesitation. While the most important aspect of the project was that we wanted it done right, price was also a factor. We found Shane's pricing to be extremely reasonable and we feel like he over-delivered for us. When you take on a big project like ours, you place an incredible amount of trust in the contractor you hire. My family is glad we trusted Hegarty Construction to make our home what we dreamed it could be. read more

Shane and his crew are hard working, honest and committed to quality. We were making all of our own design decisions about our bathroom renovation and Shane offered excellent advice that moved us in the right direction. He was always considerate and customer-focused, responding promptly to texts and emails. I look forward to working with this crew again when we update our kitchen. Shane was amazing and comes highly recommended. He just finished my kitchen remodel a week early. The quality of his work was the best and his sub contractors worked well too. read more

I own a 4 unit apartment building in the Mission and it needed some periodical correct facade restorations, window installs, etc. in an old Victorian. Hired Shane based on a friends referral which was good advice. He came by late one evening to initially meet (my schedule is always busy) and he started right away. He's very intuitive of my needs, while being conscientious of budget and pointed me in the right direction. Will be using Shane in the future. If you're looking to get a job done, right the first time, without the hassles call Shane. read more

Really impressed with Shane and his level of craftsmanship. We hired him to work on some rotted window frames and sills and right from the start he knew exactly what was needed. We tried several times to have the situation assessed by others, but never felt confident with the proposals. Shane definitely has an eye for the work. Before our project was finished we asked Shane's opinion on a wobbly staircase leading to our back garden. He came up with two solutions - one less expensive, and the other more comprehensive. We were happy to go with the bigger plan since we ended up with the most beautiful new redwood staircase and railing ever! That he was able to build it in one day is a marvel, and at a price that was very reasonable. Other reasons why we liked Shane and would hire him again: great communication; quick work (4 days for a lot of wood work); excellent clean up at the end; a willingness to follow up on the work; and reasonable pricing. read more

We did a complete renovation and added one more unit with Hegarty Construction. Guys did an amazing job. They were very punctual, never missed a day and did complete the job in a timely manner without any major problems. Also the price was very reasonable and they deliver what they promised without overcharching us for very small changes. Three years later we had some problem with one of our window , so we called Shane and he came as many times as needed to make sure it was repaired. Iif we would have another project we would hire Hegarty Construction again. read more

A belated review and thank-you for Shane and his crew at Mizen / Hegarty. We had our basement renovated over 2014-2015 and we're now 18 months out past the construction and the house has been wonderful to live in with no issues whatsoever. The construction was high quality and the final result has been pleasing. We met Shane though a friend who had just competed their renovation. At that time we had 2 other contractors bidding. One charged us to show up and then never submitted a bid. The other came in way higher than Mizen. We had extensive foundation work under the house done while we were living it the upstairs area. It involved digging down a few feet below the house with no easy access for a bobcat. One contractor we didn't use was concerned (and charging a fortune) for the foundation work, but Mizen's foundation subcontractor executed it flawlessly. We moved a staircase, added two rooms and bathroom and remodeled our kitchen (that was added in as we went along and Mizen handled everything gracefully). I appreciated that Shane was there every day in the morning to check in with us and the project. He helped us navigate the maze of choices between our preferences, our architects preferences and the planning code, giving us options and useful input on price / quality trade offs. Everything stayed on track. We helped select and obtain various fixtures and he was great about giving us a heads up when there were long lead times on things and we needed to get things queued up Overall project ended a few weeks later than planned entirely due to our addition of extra work, so Mizen was completely on schedule. His crew were respectful of our neighbors and we didn't run into any issues with complaints from around us (there have several ongoing projects at any time in our street over the past few years and this hasn't been true of many contractors. Overall, would recommend Mizen in a heartbeat. read more

Shane is an amazing contractor. He and his team did an awesome job to our kitchen and bathroom remodel. Shane is very honest and helpful and went above and beyond to complete our remodel. He helped out in getting lot of the equipment, hauling etc... His team is very disciplined and they do very good work. I am generally skeptical and picky when we go through any kind of construction process, but Shane was an awesome find. I highly recommend him for any construction work/remodels. read more

Shane and his team did a master bath remodel with me earlier this year. It was a project many months in planning, and I received 3 bids including from a contractor with whom I had worked previously, but this was my first outing with Shane. My designer had worked with Shane and his team and they did a bath remodel for some friends, and the work was very good. I had tiles that required very precise alignment for the pattern, a curbless shower with an infinity/edge drain and a very large frameless shower screen. The components were all quite high-end (Porcelanosa and Walker Zanger tile, Toto toilet, Grohe thermostats, NuHeat underfloor heating) as well as LED lighting, integrated Sonos sound system, electrically operated window shades and so on. So it was very important to me that the workmanship was at a level commensurate with what I was investing in components. It was a pleasure to work with Shane and his team. Everyone was polite, professional and reliable as well as fun to work with. The result was outstanding and my bathroom gives me joy every day. The tile, plumbing and electrical work have been faultless and the bathroom "works" even better than I had hoped for. I am using Shane again for a small job next year and when I get around to a kitchen remodel, I will absolutely ask him to bid. I should add too that of the three bids I received for this work, Shane come in lowest by a considerable margin. read more

Shane and his crew were the lowest of 3 bids I received for my bathroom remodel. However, I didn't choose them solely based on price: Shane was very prompt in responding to my inquiry, showed up when he said he would to discuss my project, immediately offered suggestions and real-life recommendations on details I didn't know/consider, and came back the next day with his electrician and plumber in order to give them a chance to inspect, so they could contribute to a better estimate. When I picked him for the work, he showed up every day on time (even earlier, around 7:45am every day) with the help he needed depending on the phase of the project. He and his electrician and plumber took care of the permits and the inspections. He was always very responsive to any question or small changes along the way, and made me completely comfortable. I should add that this was my first major remodel, so I was a bit anxious and had questions that I now know are "basics", but Shane always answered them patiently. He set up a standard contract and I followed the payment schedule. He never asked for any money in advance. I did my homework (I designed the new bathroom, and procured all materials excluding the building materials) and Shane and his crew turned my design into a beautiful bathroom I'm proud of. The project was delivered on time and on budget! read more
