SCAM. Angel let's you taste samples in the store and sends you home with TEQUILA BOTTLES FILLED WITH WATER. My bottles were also previously opened. Will be posting pics with an ABV tester to show there is very little alcohol in the "mezcal" bottles I bought. They are literally empty bottles filled with water and a bit of bad tequila. The caps don't match the bottles either. I didn't get to check this stuff until I got home because they wrapped the bottles for me to take back. Finally got to visit this place. Although I was hesitant of spending money on just some random tequila,and then regret my choice later. Well I was very happy to report that I had an opportunity to tequila taste for FREE,and received some very informative info on the age processing,and different types of tequila. George was very friendly,quick to share his best bottles,and made me a great offer. I have to say,I have tried tequila elsewhere (Puerto Nuevo) and then regretted my bottle choice,BUT not this time!! I was so impressed with the quality. I am totally recommending this place here in Ensenada. Its Conveniently located 1 block from Papas & Beer. Archie the owner wasn't there,but I was impressed with his helpful staff. Place is a lil shop snuggled amongst a busy blvd. Again,too many choices but you just tell them what your looking for in reference to flavor,and they help u narrow down the choices. Again,we totally appreciated the tasting. What better way to showcase the variety. It was so educational! No need for lime and salt,seriously the best tequila I tried,and it didn't burn. I visited this shop a year ago and Loved it so much ..... we tried so many different types of Tequila and learned about the history as well ... could not wait to come back ........... SOoooooo on Sunday March 18th in the late afternoon I brought 2 of my girlfriend to the shop , I had been telling them about it for months ..... The guy that was working there was the biggest a**hole you could have ever met !! He did not want to be bothered with us AND when I showed him a picture of some Tequila I was interested in ....... He said " Go home Gringos , that is not Tequila " I wanted to slap him..... he would not give us any samples and treated us like Sh** , I will NEVER go back there again thanks to him !!! read more

N our day trip to Ensenada we went to the Tequila Room as one of our stops. They have several different choices of Tequila here. Archie is very friendly and informative. We were ripped off, don't buy here. We bought two bottles of La Martina Reposado Tequila, Angel the salesmen charged us $70 a bottle plus a forced $10 tip, he told us this was an excellent price and was giving us a great discount, I was unable to check prices online so trusted him, as we were leaving the next day we walked into a nearby liquor store and found the same Tequila for $41 a bottle, we were unable to go back as they were closed and we had to leave town, I sent a text to the number on the website with no reply to give them the opportunity to make right. Our friends have bought Tequila here before and are now checking prices, I will update this review if they have been ripped off too. read more

This is a super fun place to stop by if you are ever in the area! Armando, was really entertaining and offered a ton of unique samples of tequila. We originally were looking for certain brand of tequila, but Armando convinced us to try a super smooth tequila that was not purchasable in the states. We ended up wanting to purchase two, but only one was in stock, so Armando requested to have a second bottle delivered from the warehouse in 20 minutes. In those couple of minutes Armando entertained us with his tequila knowledge and stories of other customers that that came by the Tequila room. It might feel like a bit of a sales pitch when you walk in, but regardless, it was very fun to try so many unique tequilas and the customer service was excellent as well. Armando was also kind enough to hand engrave each bottle we purchase for a small tip. Overall, for a long lasting memory, I highly recommend stopping by the Tequila Room in Ensenada and buying a bottle or two! The reason for 4 stars is that Armando was so entertaining we spent a lot more than expected, but we would totally do it again. read more

Archy is a delight. The man is clearly a connoisseur of tequila and mezcal. He treated us to a wide range of sample tastings of both mezcal and tequila with explanation of the 5 branches of variety that would escape most casual tasters and regaled us with the complexities and origins of each sample. This is a place not to be missed if u feel like treating yourself and your friends to an introduction to the fascinating world of tequila (and mezcal). Thumbs down. My girlfriend and I wanted to taste tequila and this establishment was recommended by Yelp from the reviews. There were a few people in the store when we arrived. When they left the salesman yelled at them and grumbled about the poor tip they left him. Now it was our turn. Let the high pressure sales tactics begin. There are no prices on the bottles but we knew the price of a bottle of tequila in the USA to compare. Price was nearly 50% more. We we're hoping it would at least be in the ballpark. The tequila and mezcals that were not low quality cost $50 and up. When we realized that we could not find a mezcal in our price range we tipped him and said goodbye. The salesman then rolled his eyes and told us if we couldn't afford a bottle then we could at least afford a nice tip. After insulting my girlfriend and I because our $7 tip for 10 minutes of tequila tasting, which was the equivalent of less than 1 ounce for both of us, was not enough we left. Never to return. Went down the street to a liquor store and bought the same bottle of mezcal for half the price. read more

After weeks of planning a coastal trip up and down the Californias with my uncle, we had not decided which coastal cities in Baja California we were going to visit. After some amazing times in San Francisco, L.A., and San Diego, we decided that we were going to spend our final day browsing around the Port Side of Ensenada. The lively atmosphere, beautiful colors, artworks, pier, vendors, and food were all amazing and a delightful 'cruise' for the senses. But I have to say, of all of the experiences and joys that made up our time in Ensenada, NOTHING even came close to our time spent in the Tequila Room. Passing up and down Calle López is already a hectic, chaotic, and mesmerizing experience. From every side you are being bombarded by street vendors, artists, and food salesman. As all the vendors do, The Tequila Room employees bartered us into the shop asking us to "Come sample Tequila; FREE!" The word free of course caught our attention immediately, but the associate, Angel, is what kept us. The inside of the shop is a small space, immediately to the left is the cashier's desk with a small refrigerator holding various soft drinks and decorated with an array of quirky, nerdy, and artistic decals. Aligning EACH wall in the shop, floor to ceiling, were rows of hand crafted and commercial tequilas, mezcales, and spirits. Angel invited us to a small cubbie where he had several bottles of tequilas (et. al) in varying degrees of emptiness. He walked us through several spirits, each time identifying key facts about the drink. He educated my uncle and I for nearly two hours on the differences between styles and blends of tequilas, different tequila manufacturing methods, the KEY differences between a Reapasado Tequila and a Añejo Tequila, and all sorts of other fascinating information that would make ANY spirit enthusiast want to stick around. The shop hosts a variety of drinks in a large price range from as cheap as $19.99 all the way up to $1600.00!!! Angel also took the time to explain to us how to legally cross back into the states and declare our items. At the conclusion of our visit, Sebastian (the shops owner) introduced himself to me and my uncle, and welcomed us back into his shop anytime in the future. He and Angel both demonstrated the best of what Mexican customer service, and indulgence can be. Amazing prices, a fantastic atmosphere, incredible information, and an urgency to know their clients and befriend them. My uncle and I are planning to purchase property in B.C. and I will most DEFINITELY be returning to the Tequila Room! read more

Awesome place to stop and taste your fair share of Tequilas and Mezcal. They have an excellent selection and knowledgable staff you want to sell you the good stuff. We came back to this hole-in-the-wall after our first bottle was broken by our cruise ship staff years ago. We ended up finding the same bottle of tequila we previously bought and found more to buy in the future. Very disappointed! We stopped in after seeing all the good reviews and having a friend refer us here but we sure felt swindled. We bought a mango and peach flavored tequila that the sales guy working the place let us sample. When we got home my wife and I decided to try out the new bottles we just bought on the rocks and after drinking nearly half the bottle not even a buzz. I'm convinced we just bought juice. I gave 2 stars for the service. Besides selling us bogus bottles the sales guy was friendly and made us laugh, I guess I can say that was worth something. read more

We were taken to see Archie as part of a day tour of Mexico we had booked. It was a highlight of our trip. Archie was a wonderful host, and we sampled several different kinds of tequila, and he pointed out the differences in each. We learned a lot about the making and regulation of tequila manufacturing in Mexico. We were also introduced to tequila liquers, which we have never heard of. Wow, those were so good, and unique. We ended up buying 2 flavors if liquer, and 2 tequilas, but there was zero pressure to buy. He talked with us during the tasting, and was very friendly. I truly felt as if he were an expert in his trade, and left there with more knowledge than I arrived with. If only it wasn't so far away so that we could visit again, there is more we want to buy! read more
