This was on our bucket list for Mexican restaurants in the Cincy area. I saw someone post a video on Instagram and it looked so good! My friends were celebrating their Birthday and they wanted Mexican food. I mentioned this place and they were game. My friend made reservations for 11 people on a Friday night. The inside is not big but still spacious. They also have the igloos outside which you have to make reservations. I was very impressed with the food and drink menu. Especially the drink menu. They have so many different brands of tequila and specialty cocktails. For food, there was something everyone. Pescatarian, vegetarians, and all the meats. It's official! After my second visit to Tequila Modern Mexican, I've concluded that this is my favorite Mexican restaurant. Their shrimp cocktail (Sorry El Jinete ) and Chilaquiles are the best I've ever had, and I've been to Mexico multiple times. You have to try their Tres Amore with is 3 appetizers consisting of Cheviche, aguachilies, and coctel de camerones-The shrimp cocktail This time we also ordered enchiladas, the Pozole, which is a very flavorful soup with chicken and hominy, and the Sopes. We have never had sopes before, and were so glad we tried it. Sopes are a thick tortilla like dough fried and topped with beans, meat, lettuce, creama and cheese. This would also make a great appetizer because you get 3 of them. ‼BEWARE: the sauce served with the sopes is very good, but EXTREMELY spicy. Fabulous new restaurant in a space that has seen several predecessors in recent years: Suzy Wong's and Solstice. Same great large windows that let in the light and allow you to people watch while dining and chatting. The space is decorated with lots of colorful flower pots which give the restaurant quite a festive look. Table water is served in repurposed tequila bottles adding a bit of color and whimsical shape to every table. And of course there is tequila! Lots of different types to choose from. I ordered a pineapple margarita which was incredibly refreshing on a warm day and came with a slice of pineapple. We received a complimentary basket of regular and blue corn tortilla chips that were on the thicker side, accompanied by a bowl of salsa. The salsa was excellent and unlike others I've tasted at other Mexican restaurants. It was more of a thick puree, almost like a hearty soup and had a deep, smokey flavor. I ordered the enchiladas trio from the lunch menu: one beef, one chicken, and one cheese with different sauces. I typically only order enchiladas at Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants, so suffice to say that I have had dozens and dozens of enchiladas in my life-time. This was a completely surprise for us! We had passed in when in the East Walnut Hills neighborhood and hadn't heard of it yet, so we decided to go. The service was great - our waitress was as able to give us great recommendations. I got the steak enchiladas, but asked for poblano sauce instead (it comes on the veggie enchiladas but isn't a normal option). They were able to accommodate and it was DELICIOUS. I also really enjoyed the salsa - it felt more like a tomato sauce but was still great. There wasn't a strong onion flavor either, which I find most salsas have. Inside the place is nice, but the outdoor seating seems to be the place to be. Go for dinner on a day with nice weather and drink on the patio! You'll enjoy it! read more

I am sure I will return. I enjoyed the comboa fajitas, the steak and chicken were tender. So happy the steak was NOT the chopped up grisly stuff. The dish was seasoned well. The margaritas and the tequila bar and great. I love being able to try different shots. I am a huge tequila fan. The service is always kind and friendly. My husband and I tried Tequila and I am in love. It was a perfect night for the patio, although the inside is so cute and well decorated. I had a mezcal margarita and my husband had the Paloma, both were delicious. We started with the ceviche, arguably the best you can find in the city! Prove me wrong, it was so yum. I have the Trompito Al pastor, and he had the mole enchiladas. Again, both were amazing. We loved the salsa with chips that came complimentary. The salsa was nice and Smokey, not too spicy. I'm writing this review late due to traveling, but I just gotta say how fantastic this restaurant is. We went on May 3, 2025 unbeknownst to us that it was also their anniversary. I noticed walking in the funny sign on their wall in the back entrance, then noticed it was also displayed on the back of the t-shirts they sell. One Tequila two tequila three tequila floor lol. All the waitresses were wearing festive matching dresses-super cute-black off the shoulder sundresses with yellow flowers across the top. I was in a large group and the restaurant seating looked small but to my surprise they accommodated us quickly. I ordered a classic Margarita and Carnitas. I didn't have my phone on me to snap pics but a friend sent mr some video. A mariachi band started to play. It was so fun!! My wife and I recently stopped at Tequila Modern Mexican for dinner. This is a newer restaurant over in DeSales Corner of East Walnut Hills. It's a bit upscale for a Mexican restaurant, a trend that seems to be pretty popular these days. I ordered the enchiladas fridas which is three fresh tortillas stuffed with chicken, smothered in green tomatillo sauce, garnished with sour cream, onion, and queso fresco, and served with a side of rice and beans ($17).  This was a lot of food and it all was pretty tasty. The sauce was very good and there was a lot of cheese on top to give some balance to the meal. The enchiladas filled an entire plate, so the beans and rice are served separately, which is actually kind of nice, though I would be fine without the side dishes at all. The real star of the meal were the enchiladas. My wife ordered the spinach chicken, served as a bed of vegetables with a chicken breast, spinach, and melted mozzarella on top ($19). She got some tortillas on the side to eat it sort of like you would with fajitas. Again it was a lot of food and the flavor combinations were good. We also tried their spicy margaritas ($12) which had a spicy rim and fresh jalapeno included. A pretty spicy combination but delicious as well. read more

We decided to grab a few drinks and some queso before our event. When we arrived, the place was bustling with employees, but it felt chaotic and unorganized. We were seated and ordered margaritas, but my mini cup was mostly ice, and the drink barely tasted like tequila--definitely not worth the $12 price tag. We opted to skip the queso since it was an outrageous $17. Instead, we ordered the mini trompo al pastor. While it provided enough food for both of us, the flavor didn't resemble authentic al pastor, though there was plenty of meat--enough for three tacos each. Great roasted ancho/tomato complimentary salsa and chips. Really good house margarita as well. My shrimp was cooked perfectly. The refried beens were not an afterthought like most other Mexican restaurants and were actually very good. The house made pastry/cheesecake was really good too. Quaint atmosphere, parking however was street side, metered??? limited and unclear. It must have been on campus. Dark and unfamiliar with the area I'm unsure. Lots of students, it must have been. Wait staff was getting ready for an in coming group so it felt like they forgot about us at first. Wonderful people. I bet we had someone ask four different times if we wanted more chips, so I think they were making up for our earlier wait. Table by the door was cold and people were walking behind me all the time so not very comfortable. I honestly think if they put us at any other table it would have been better. Fish Street tacos were greasy and cold. Very disappointed because when they asked if I needed something I wanted to just say something with flavor and no grease. Even the tortilla was greasy. That being said the sauce they gave with it was fire hot, my husband who enjoys hot sauce even said it was too much for him. So maybe I should have asked for some other sauce. Refried beans were good. My husband enjoyed his burrito and was more than willing to share except I can't have the cheese sauce it was covered with. He said he wished it had more peppers on it. Otherwise he said it had a generous amount of meat. Rice, and bean sides were generous. Overall, I wouldn't go back. And I hate leaving bad reviews but it is what it was. Not a good experience. I was hesitant about visiting Tequila Modern Mexican for a little - concerned that the name implied upscaled, gentrified, and more expensive takes on Mexican cuisine - but any apprehensions disappeared after the first, second...and eighth visit, where I ate my way across the menu's many sections. Each time, I was delighted by the quality and value, both dining in as well as from carryout. I spent nearly a decade working in Mexico so I'm partial to particular flavors throughout the country's multiple regions - TMM delightfully adheres to a lot of the core concepts and builds on them. Without a doubt, the items from the grill are the star of the show. The is far from dry, the flavors bold, and the vegetables remain crisp. If you like seafood, you'll realize that they offer generous portions of giant prawns and scallops in multiple dishes, especially the Mocaljete Del Mar ($35) and Mar Y Tierra ($19), with the former coming with enough food to easily feed two. I especially love their take on Chilaquiles ($20), served with a nice cut of steak on an iron-hot stone plate that continues to cook the tortillas throughout the meal. The result is that perfect combination of soft, space-drenched tortillas with a nice crunchy bite...that is, if you can resist waiting (don't rush, as it is extremely hot!). If you want a dish that makes jaws drop, I also highly recommend the Trompito Al Pastor ($25) - the al pastor meat is served on a miniature, rotating vertical spit. It's a lot of fun to slice the meat off when trying to construct your own tacos and it's a perfect example of the creative twist they put on traditional Mexican faire. Another stand out is their quesabirria tacos ($17 on the dinner menu only, though they will accommodate you at lunch) - extremely flavorful with a side of consome to dip in. You can also order grilled lamb chops, only available on their secret menu. All in all, the service is and food is great. I love the fact that multiple servers remember me despite the large crowds that sometimes come through. When the weather is nice, they also have a decent outdoor area near the heart of East Walnut Hills' Woodburn walking district. It can get a little loud inside the restaurant (the "one tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor" and cranked music screams PARTY VIBES) but it is much more reserved in the lunch hours. If you order to go for pickup, you might use upserve.com (their website is not updated so you'll have to grab the link from their Google Maps listing) - I've called my food in multiple times before but sometimes the serve can't hear/understand me very well - it'll streamline the order. read more

Given it was a Saturday night, I called ahead to see if they took reservations. The lovely hostess told me only for groups of 10+, and then asked about us and when we thought to arrive, and when I said 2 around 7, she described two large parties booked between 6-6:30 and invited me to call when we were on our way and they'd try to have a table. Sure enough, we were seated promptly. Initial wait service with water, chips and salsa was a little slow, but once they took our orders, drinks and food followed at a nice pace. My husband had the steak burrito and I had the vegetable enchiladas, explaining I'm vegetarian . The server was kind enough to offer that the rice is meatless- no chicken broth- and as others have reported, the portions are ample. We came home with leftovers. They are known for margaritas made from scratch without bottled sweet and sour mix and there are two full pages of tequilas as well as a small selection of mescals. There is no beer menu, but my husband enjoyed the Modela Negro from among the limited cerveza offerings.
