This is such a frustrating review to write. This place had the potential to be a favorite of mine ,as it's authentic Japanese. Japanese-owned and operated, which usually leads to much better food.
What knocks this place down so many stars is the absolute HORRID customer service. First off, this was about an hour before closing time on a weekday. We step in and immediately are impressed with the quaint atmosphere and the little Japanese lady (owner I presume) chatting up some customers at the sushi bar. The place is not crowded, maybe only a few tables, and the wife and I think we've found a place we could frequent!
We order 2 waters and peruse the menu..... we're ready to order, but 15 minutes later the server still has not come back. OK, finally we place our order - the owner is still chatting up the same customers. We order two dishes and one sushi roll and one order of nigiri sushi (two pieces).
The noodles come out about 20 minutes later, not so bad. I tell my wife not to wait for me, because we are both starving. 10 more minutes pass - my dish and sushi are not out yet. So another 10 more minutes pass and my dish comes out, (40 minutes if you're keeping track, I was). About the same time, we see the sushi chef place our order on top of the sushi counter. 5 minutes later, it's still sitting there; I almost went up a grabbed it myself. This all the while sitting in plain view of the owner who is STILL chatting up the same customers. It's nice to have a chatty owner, but how about taking care of the other people there for a little bit? Most Japanese owners I know would be furious if freshly-made sushi is left to sit out, but she couldn't care less. So that's about 15 minutes before closing time before we get our food, and 45 minutes from the time we ordered.
I see the chef's starting to clear up about 10 minutes before closing so I flag down a waitress (she never bothered to come back) to request some more sushi, because as much as I hated waiting, it was really good sushi.
Get this, she tells me "Sorry, sushi closed". Are you freaking kidding me? How about a head's-up? It's as simple as "would you like anything else, the sushi bar is about to close". All the while, their OPEN sign is still on, the owner is STILL at the same table, managing to not notice anything going on around her.
The food here is good - and that's what's disappointing about having to write this. I'm not writing this to spite them, I'm just hoping they learn some basic customer service. Love the food, but I will not be back anytime soon. read more
