Great for a great price. I heart the tamales. Small but inviting. Grab the burrito and head outside.

Restaurants, stores, and bars come and go on Elk Street, but Teocalli Tamale remains. A fixture in Crested Butte for over twenty years, Teocalli Tamale is the place to go to get a hearty, tasty meal after spending a morning and/or afternoon outdoors. Community favorites include the Piggy Pork (shredded pork drenched in pineapple, tomatillo, chipotle, garlic sauce) and Mike's Mex-o-Lina (spicy shredded beef -- ask to add sautéed bell peppers) in taco or burrito form. Needless to say, their tamales are a hit as well. A collection of unusual bottles of hot sauces, displayed in a wall rack, are available to add a little more heat and adventure to your visit. A variety of beverages are available, including uncommon sodas and beer. Each dish is prepared one by one as the customer interacts with a friendly employee stationed in the kitchen. At checkout, food can be packaged for sit down or take out. While there is seating inside, this is not the most comfortable place when the order line makes its way down the one aisle and out the door. Consider taking order to go -- even the margaritas can be prepared as take out. Note: the execution of dishes (proportion of ingredients) can vary depending on who takes the order.

So this cute teeny tiny place is a must for tamales. The line typically long but can go pretty fast. There are options for seating but it can fill up pretty fast. The menu has lots of options as far as burritos and plates they suggest. However if you would like to build your own burrito you can do that instead. Today I got the tamale plate with the vegetarian option-green Chile and cheese. They put beans and rice at the bottom of the plate pit tamales on top and then a choice of salsa and cilantro. It was pretty tasty. The tamales were perfect. I was not a huge fan of the rice and beans, they just didn't have enough flavor for me. But if you like plain rice and beans then it will be perfect for your taste buds. There is an option to order tamales by themselves as well. So I highly suggest you grab a dozen or half dozen to take with you.

Walked by this place a couple times and eventually said, YEP. Glad we did! We ordered two tamale plates (one pork, one cheese) and they were served on rice with beans and topped with green chili sauce, cilantro, and sour cream. Plates were about $13, but you can order tamales a La Carte for $3.25ish. They have burritos and tacos as well. Chips and salsa available as well as beers, margaritas, and a fountain soda machine. We were the only ones in there for a bit (yay for Covid distancing!) place has about 10-12 total tables. My only recommendation is having multiple sauce options as a topping. I'd like to have had a red sauce and green sauce option. They do have a restroom for customers.

Tamale that is supposed to have pork, but where is it?!

Their specialty is tamales, so I ordered them with pork, there was only the thinnest schmear of meat, it was all corn filling and then that was tasteless. My partner had a steak burrito and was ok with it.

This is one of the best spots in down to grab a quick bite! The service is fast and great. Not a lot of seating options, but the food is great. The burrito was delicious, the chicken is amazing and it is easy to devour when you are hungry. I got the hot salsa, and be careful, because it is very very spicy! The marg was okay, I could tell it was a mix, not fresh made. For a easy meal and consistent burritos, great spot in Crested Butte!

Rude service from the owner, they closed 40 minutes before their close time of 9pm on a Friday night.

We purchased two dozen mild tamales for dinner at the condo. They were absolutely amazing, and the family loved them!

Costco ingredients, served from a filthy kitchen. Absolutely nothing special. Ordered bag of chips, I got a bag of crumbs.

Attentive service kept the meal flowing. We started with Camp 4 Coffee as both a drip and espresso and could not have had a better way to start breakfast. Or so we thought. We saw several of the other tables having the Bloody Mary and we jumped in head first - Paradise's Bloody was the perfect eye opener for a day on the slopes. We ordered the Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and the #4 which is two eggs, hot Polish sausage and a pancake (served with optional REAL maple syrup - frankly, faux maple syrup is an abomination that needs to be banned in all 50 states!) The dishes were delicious, portions were generous, and we could not have been more pleased . Next time we will try the Huevos Rancheros which neighboring tables were tucking into with great abandon. We are regulars at McGills but are very pleased to have discovered Paradise which is now part of our breakfast rotation in Crested Butte.

They are literally making it when you order. And they're using fresh ingredients. Don't believe me? You can watch them cook your order from our seats at the bar. So, yeah, I promise. Meanwhile, their chips and salsa will keep you busy (fresh, spicy and also one of my favs in a long while too). You can tell a lot by a place's salsa, IMO. The salsa here is house made, daily, I bet, which already tells you a lot. Made daily. Yum. Ok, literally my dude took two bites and made a wish that we could transported these folks to our neck of the woods. I was surprised really, until I had a bite of my spinach enchiladas. Fresh. Well seasoned. Cooked just right (aka, the spinach wasn't slimy, lol). Sooooo very good. Staff were amazing, laid back and super courteous. Once they, reluctantly, sat us at a table, it was 20 minutes until the next acknowledgement, then 20 minutes until the water and chips/salsa came. Then prob 40 minutes more for food. The food is the only bright spot, and you literally see the ladies making everything fresh to order. But it's not THAT good, not really worth the 2 hour experience unless you have nothing else to do. Would recommend this place only if you can catch it at a time with very few other customers, then they may be friendlier and less stressed and may be able to keep up with food and marg orders. I rarely write reviews but this was such an odd experience I had to share.
