Genuinely terrible experience. Tend was once a place to go to because it was clean and fresh and the people were nice. That's no longer the case - there's water damage on the curtains, the place is grimy, there's no separation between rooms so you get no privacy and the staff is blatantly rude. Also as a heads up - tend has a 40% commission sharing for their dentists, which as you'd imagine certainly doesn't help with them being unbiased and objective in prescribing treatment. Plus, it's very close to my home. However, they charged me $100 for an appointment they scheduled in advance back in October of last year.I wasn't in town, and my phone was at home, so I never received any messages or emails from them about this appointment. Positive : my hygienist was amazing so gentle and great job. Dentist was also informative and nice. Negative: the billing department and booking department is completely messed up my account when my insurance changed and failed at the option to book with the same hygienist. Their call center which is not in the US has no way of contacting the clinic directly to clarify this issue and I kept being handling by different customer service people each interaction. A complete break down in their customer service. I wish I could go back here because the people who work here are great , but the billing and customer service department along with having the ability to book the same hygienist need to be greatly improved. If I could give a zero star I would. I received 2 years of Invisalign at this location. I went back for adjustments 1 year after my treatment finished and after my wedding, a major surgery, and having a child. The price for a 6 month treatment was more expensive than the initial 2 years of treatment I did and the finance person said "because, you know, inflation", making herself look like a total idiot while treating me with no understanding or compassion. I had an appointment on 5/9/25 and really liked the dentist that I saw. She was incredibly kind and thorough. However, my hygienist (I think her name was Kelly) seemed rushed, frantic, and inexperienced. The cleaning was insanely painful. I think that she may be a trainee, but this was never communicated to me. Furthermore, as a first time client I expected to see an experienced hygienist. Overall the appointment was painful and stressful. I won't be coming back. Go support a mom and pop dentist instead of this place. read more

I have been going here for four years and my most recent visit and filling has left me with months of pain and the need to pay for and see a different dentist. The dentist I saw did not care about the work she was doing (did not wait for numbing to kick in, I felt everything) and was rushing. Multiple times a person stood at the door asking her questions and chatting as she drilled into my mouth. I went back a few days after to get it checked by a different dentist at the same location who confirmed the filling was done incorrectly. I showed up to my appointment at Tend Williamsburg 16 minutes late -- just one minute past their 15-minute grace period. The front desk staff let me know that, unfortunately, my appointment had been canceled and I'd need to reschedule. Normally, I'd accept that, but I had already taken antibiotics that morning as part of a cardiac prophylaxis (a requirement for dental visits), which meant I had a limited window to get seen. I'll admit, I pulled a bit of a Karen move and asked to speak to a manager. That's when Joanne (I believe that was her name) stepped in and completely changed the trajectory of my day. At first, she said I'd need to reschedule, but after I explained my situation, she really listened. She said she'd see what she could do. Not only did she manage to get me back on the schedule within five minutes, but she also offered free teeth whitening and other perks for my inconvenience -- which was unnecessary but kind nonetheless, especially since it was my fault for being late. Despite all this, they never rushed my appointment. Everything was handled with care, patience, and humanity. In NYC, where policies are often rigid and customer service can feel robotic, it meant a lot to be treated like an actual person. I came in for a cleaning appt which turned into a filling (they were able to squeeze me in right after since I was having sensitivity). The hygienist Nilsa was so kind and caring + knowledgable, as well as the dentist Dr. Tara and her assistant. All 3 of them were professional and radiated positive energy. This is the second Tend location I've visited and I love it! I started my journey with Tend in DC while visiting my mom and I enjoyed the experience. As I live in BK, I was happy to learn of the Tend location in Williamsburg. Initially, I was against the idea of going to a practice like this where you book with the office not with an individual doctor. However, I like that all of my information is stored within the Tend system so no matter which office I visit, they can access my profile. As far as the office goes, I like that it's tech friendly, chic and I can watch Netflix shows while I get my teeth cleaned. It makes the experience go by quickly which is helpful because I truly hate the dentist. Lastly, I wanted to give Tend five stars but I don't like when I'm told to be on time but the office is late. I do understand things happen but if I were late, I would be charged or my appointment would be canceled so I'd appreciate respect for the medical practice. read more

Just go find another dentist. no one communicates with each other. You come in for your apartment and no one knows why. I had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted thinking I was going to be put under. They didn't tell me until I was already sitting in my seat in excruciating pain that they don't put people under for extractions. I was in a chair for two hours, as the doctor was sawing and hammering my mouth struggling to get my teeth out. Literally yanking my mouth from side to side. When I left they gave me no instructions on how to care for the 4 large holes in my mouth. I had two cavities that needed to be filled. No one remembered so I had to call and make an appointment. Came in for my appointment and no one knew why I was there. The hygienist, doctors and the receptionist do not communicate to each other so they're all giving you different information. I got numerous emails about pre appointment to do's like filling out paperwork and providing payment information, which I did. I'd taken a 6-year sabbatical from the dentist after being traumatized from a wisdom teeth removal. Going to Tend was a big decision for me and one that faired well. The hygienist played the largest part in creating a wonderful experience for me. He talked me down, gave me superfluous compliments on my teeth (lol), and was extremely patient with me. They gave me Beats headphones and a remote to watch Netflix while they worked on my teeth. The dentist came in later to discuss my x-ray results and was personable. The only reason this review is 4-stars is because all 3 receptionist sitting at the front desk didn't bother to speak with me after telling me my insurance was covered and created an awkward experience where I was already waiting 25 minutes for the hygienist to accept me. read more

Truly a horrible place or what I refer to as "a pig with lipstick", but that's even an insult to a pig. They make it seem like a clean fresh space but it's run like a dump. They try to make you feel welcome and all they want is your money - went in for annual cleaning which was covered by insurance, found to need a few follow ups. Upon going back I was charged for the copay more than double than what my insurance claim stated I would pay and was asked to pay same day of procedure rather than waiting to process through insurance. When I received my insurance statement telling me I should be paying half of what I was charged I brought it to the front desk at Tend and they looked at me like I had two heads. I requested a refund for the extra money I was owed, was told they would reach out to billing and after 3 weeks there was no follow up until I reached out to billing myself with the receipts. This happened literally all three times I went back for a follow up and I had to demand the refund each time until it got to the point where i refused to pay until after they billed the insurance. My partner was also a patient here at the same time as me, and had his fair share of issues as well. Similar to myself was undergoing treatments and they were consistently dishonest about costs, they would cancel MULTIPLE appointments on him less than an hour but if he tried to cancel a day before he wouldnt be able to reach anyone to speak to, and they would then try to charge him $100 for a missed appt. The quality of care is also a joke, the staff try to get you in and out without barely explaining things to you. Not to mention telling you mid treatment theyre adding something to your exam or cleaning, but neglecting to state it will be more charges. There is barely any privacy as youre laying with your mouth open and everyone walking past you, even in a separate room as the door will be wide open. overall, wouldnt tell my enemies to get treatment here. I love the concept of Tend, and in the past I have raved about them - but in recent months I have been continuously disappointed in my experience. During my second most recent appointment a couple of weeks ago, they were late to bring me back at all and then once they did, they made me wait for even longer, making it a total of an hour from the time my appointment was scheduled to when the dentist saw me. Again during my appointment today, I waited for around 40 minutes before the dentist even walked in. During the first appointment, the dentist at least apologized - today she didn't, and everyone aside from the front desk employee acted like everything was completely normal. Once they did see me today, the dentist put the swab of numbing gel on and then immediately injected me with Novocaine - and then started in drilling less than a couple minutes. I have, unfortunately, had many cavities filled in my short life, several of which have been at Tend, and I have always had the numbing gel applied, waited a few minutes, and then injected Novocaine, waited a few minutes, and then started drilling. Obviously, with no time to begin working, the numbing gel did nothing today and the Novocaine shot hurt a lot. I told the dentist this and told her how every single filling I have ever gotten has included a few minutes for the numbing gel to kick in, including the filling she gave me last week, and the dentist proceeded to gaslight me by saying this is her normal speed and that she would write it in my chart to give time for the numbing gel to kick in, as if that isn't standard protocol and again, literally what she did last week. Her acting as if I was the one who was making a special request was infuriating. She was rushing because she was running late to my appointment and therefore was trying to cut corners - her schedule should have no impact on me or my appointment, do not rush me because you're behind. It is adding insult to injury after making me wait for so long. During the procedure, someone else came in and began talking to her, and they proceeded to have a brief discussion which resulted in her leaving the room for at least ten minutes. From what I could gather, I assume she had to go do something for another patient - although I wouldn't know for sure, as there was zero communication with me about it. Furthermore, I'd like to point out that at this point, she had already drilled into my teeth, and then just left me there saying nothing. Finally, after completing the filling and finishing the appointment, the dentist told me that I was likely getting a lot of cavities in the back of my mouth because my teeth were crooked. I have had braces twice, I went through years of orthodontics growing up, and I am always complimented at how straight my teeth are. I have pretty good dental hygiene but I haven't always, so some of the older cavities are definitely a result of that - but beyond that based on other dentists I have talked to, a large part of it is genetics. It isn't that I'm offended at the notion of her saying my molars are crooked, I wouldn't care if they were, but objectively my smile is straight, including the back teeth. It just is. I have heard friends, my partner, and folks online warn me that they always try and sell you their invisible braces, so I assume that is what she was trying to do. Another note, you aren't able to reschedule or cancel on the app or online and they make you call them to do so, regardless of how soon you try and do so. The only positive part of my experience during the last two visits have been the employees at the front desk. They have all been incredibly nice, apologetic about things like the dentist running late that aren't their fault, and bring a generally positive attitude to providing customer experience, so shoutout to them. read more

I've always had a fearful relationship with the dentist. It was probably a combination of the young age and fear of sensitivity and gagging that made me never want to return. I remember the constant hissing and drilling sound, the nasty cherry after taste, the tugging of my teeth, and the water/airbrush/suction that constantly made me gag. Embarrassed as I was, I would cross my leg, squeeze my fist and sometimes tear from the side of my eyes. But all of this stopped when I gave my first visit to Tend. I was recommended by a friend about this place. To me, this place is like the Apple of dentistry. When I signed up to make an account, input my insurance, and book a time, I was soon contacted via text by someone from Tend about a reminder of my appointment and any questions. Their customer service is amazing, I called a few times to verify things about my insurance and they were happy to answer and follow up with my insurance company. My experience was care-free for me. A day before my appointment I was called by someone from Tend to confirm my appointment. When I got there, I was greeted by the front desk. I did my prescreening about COVID health questions online already, so he asked me if anything has changed since, and took my temperature. since it was my first time they gave me this cool brush bag that comes with a toothbrush and toothpaste (https://www.hellotend.com/thegargler/your-first-tend-visit). My dental hygenist Stella came and took me to my station. The layout of Tend was modernistic and clean. It was not a typical white-walled and old dentist spot that's filled with files and files. Instead, it was vibrant and minimalist. My hygenist Stella asked me some health questions and proceeded to have me rinse my mouth with peroxide (it lowers the viral load in the mouth). Took me to take some x-ray photos, did an oral cancer screening (complimentary), and began to clean my teeth. I've been to several places before, and I've never had as great of an experience as I did here. they used this silicon instrument where it not only kept my mouth open while she drilled and cleaned, but also served as a suction (this is a game-changer because I would always have a problem with my dentist putting several different tubes (suction, water, and air) in my mouth at once while drilling my teeth). Before she started, she gave me a remote where I chose what I wanted to watch on Netflix (the TV is actually propped up on the ceiling so you can see with when you laid flat) as well as a Bose noise-canceling headphones (with protective covers on it of course). the experience was pain-free and I did not tear up or felt stressed during the procedure. Most importantly, I did not gag or have a nasty aftertaste at all. Stella was not only patient but also very informative about oral health and gave me tips on what to do. I liked that she would always inform me what she was going to do, so I would always be ready. She took her time to make sure she was doing everything properly, and that is all I can ask for. I didn't feel any major pain, I think everything put in place, like the advancement equipment, the TV and wireless headphones made the experience as smooth as possible. I think many people see the dentist as a place you want to be in and out, no questions asked. But she really cared about my teeth and took the extra mile to properly clean it, take pictures, explain to them, answer my questions, and give me suggestions. I would usually be at the dentist for about 20-40 minutes at most, but I spent over an hour with her, and honestly, I think she did a 5-star job. Afterward, my dentist Dr.Sheryl Lee came in and took look at my teeth and gave me advice on taking care of my teeth. Both were very professional and courteous. All in all, my experience at Tend, with my hygenist and dentist, was splendid. They made me realize that a trip to the dentist should be something you look forward to and not something you want to put off until next year. I was so impressed by their service and overall experience that I already decided to book my next appointment with them. I highly recommend this place to anyone with teeth. I really love this place, clean, near subway, everyone is pretty nice. My doctor and hygienist are very good in being detailed about what they are doing or the status of my teeth and what I should do to make them better. Tend is good if all you need is a dental cleaning. That said, after my entire experience with them, because I had the misfortune of agreeing to get my orthodontia care with them, I ultimately would not recommend Tend Williamsburg or any of the Tend Studios. As a dental care network, they have poor communication. For example, I had 3 appointments canceled back to back without reason. Those appointments were for follow ups on removing my braces. I also needed to move very suddenly to the west coast and was in need of a new pair of retainers before I left New York because mine were broken. Not only did I never receive those new retainers, I was then given the run around for almost 5 months before being told today that the hold up has been a payment issue. Seems like something that could have been explained the first time I called asking for new retainers. Maybe the second or third or fourth time (you get the point. I called a lot within a 5 month span). They told me they sent an email to an old work account, as well as the date they sent it. At the time, I still had access to that email and checked it regularly. I never received any such email. And since it's been so long since I had my braces removed (again, a process I did entirely through Tend and paid for out of pocket) my teeth have shifted and are no longer even straight anymore (remember the broken retainer). All this to say, just because Tend and it's dental studios look pretty, doesn't mean you're going to get the best overall experience. You will also most likely be paying way more for services than you would at, say, a family-owned or local dentist literally anywhere else in the city (Yes, even the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Long Island City). The staff is great. The business model sucks. You can't contact the office directly. Every time I've needed to speak to my Dentist I was told he would call me back and every time he told me he never got the message. I have to replace a front tooth. They took pictures for a temporary denture. The first one was fine. It got lost while I was traveling. Went back to get another one. I was told they changed venders. The vender sent 4 different dentures, none of them fit.I got a call from one of Tend's managers saying they were so sorry and would make it right. Second time same result 4 dentures never be fit. The last straw came when I lost my phone on the day I had an appointment. I had already lost a days pay working and I asked them not to charge me $250 for the missed appointment. I got no answer and they charged me anyway. They didn't pay me for my time when I had to come there 3x because of their incompetence with my denture. Maybe you'll be fine for the most basic cleaning? I was and had liked my experience enough to start Invisalign treatment with them and I sincerely regret my decision. My experience with them have been nothing short of complete chaos and disorganization lately. Every person I talk to has provided completely different information. I cannot wait to have my Invisalign treatment plan finally finished (was told it would be 4 month treatment and 2 orthodontists later, I'm currently at almost a year) so I never have to walk back in this office again. The issues started just as I'm about to complete my treatment. They gave me 48 hrs notice that my account had a balance and were going to charge me $800. I thought I had completely paid for my treatment a year ago (they never provided me and still won't provide me with a copy of my docusigned agreements with the pricing I agreed to over the phone -- huge red flag). When I called to ask about the balance, their team couldn't fully provide accurate or coherent information on the service they are ACTUALLY charging me for. I asked for additional clarity before giving my consent to bill but of course they billed before I received a reply because they don't care since they have your all card info. A representative followed up from my call via email and said I still owed this amount with limited information on what their billing schedule should be other than it seems like they either forgot to charge me almost a year ago or applied different charges to another service (I am still unclear). I am supposed to accept being charged erratically and on such short notice in addition to lack of explanation for their oversight? This comes after numerous text messages I have gotten about other balances I've owed followed with "please disregard, our mistake". Why is there such disorganization and lack of transparency in your billing process? I'm also fairly certain the total cost of my Invisalign is now higher on my statement than what I agreed upon a year ago but like I said, I don't have a signed copy of my contract still to confirm. They've changed their pricing on their website as of recently and the customer service agent said that's what it's "always" been but I assure you, a year ago they were hustling you with various promos and discounts over the phone. I've also been booked for additional services (breezy braces placement??) when I clearly have Invisalign in my file. They wouldn't cancel my appointment without confirming with my doctor it wasn't necessary I have 2 sets braces put on at the same time... seriously it's laughable. I had to call twice since they reminded me their cancelation policy since they never canceled an appointment they mistakenly scheduled on their end FOR AN EXTRA SET OF BRACES. I've also had a separate insurance claim rejected for $1900 oral surgery since they were missing information from their claim submission... and it's my responsibility to check they are doing their job correctly and facilitate a conversation with their representative and my insurance company? Otherwise they are going to arbitrarily decide my account (that I don't have live access to, you have to request) is "due"? Truly so negligent and exploitative layered with complete incompetence. I have called several times to discuss but regular customer service can't help explain and they say they will have a manager call you back. l missed a previous call from a manger because I was in a work meeting and the only way they have to contact them back is through their main customer service line with a rep who can forward it to a manager...round and round we go. Every doctor that I've seen has provided above and beyond care and thorough explanations to their suggestions. I've never had angry surprising costs or hidden fees and I feel confident in the recommendations their team makes. Dr. Ferrante is by far one of the best of the team that I've seen, but again all are great! Tend is busy and popular, so I'm not sure why anyone is surprised at difficulty in getting an appointment or cancellation fees. DO NOT GO HERE. I had a root canal done when I was 12. The cap stayed on from ages 12 - 27 but then fell out. Tend was recommended to me through a friend so I went thinking it would be a quick and easy fix with a new cap. This was the worst dental experience I've ever had. Probably because it's not a real medical practice it's essentially an Apple Store with teenage dentists who have just graduated and couldn't practice elsewhere. First, they double booked me, then tried to cancel my appointment 4 minutes before it began. Then they promised they would see me and conduct my teeth cleaning but instead made me wait an hour for my dentist who then apologized for wasting my time because they couldn't actually finish my appointment. I've been putting off writing this review for several months, but feel like I need to post this as a PSA. Unlike other reviewers, I haven't had any bad experiences when it comes to billing. Similarily I've had only good experiences with cleanings from the hygienists here. My bitter and extremely painful experience came from a procedure to take care of two cavities I was told had formed with Dr. Lee. I was nervous about getting work done in the first place. Then, on the scheduled day, I was made to wait an hour in the chair for her. There was some scheduling confusion. Another dentist stopped by and introduced himself, but I told him my appointment was with Dr. Lee. (Perhaps if I had gone with him, I now wonder ...) When Dr. Lee finally arrived, I warned her of my extreme sensitivity in the gum area and my fear of getting work done. She was professional, but rather cold, and did nothing to soothe my fear. (I don't consider bedside-manners a necessary job requirement for a doctor, but a nice perk, so I went forward anyway ...) That said: getting the fillings done was incredibly uncomfortable and I needed extra novocaine because of my sensitivity in one of the areas. Afterward, and for several months (and ongoing), that side of my mouth where Dr. Lee did one of the fillings became intolerable. That area was sensitive to anything cold (this was new for me) and painful to the lightest touch of a toothbrush. Still - I was too afraid to go back to Tend and go back to her. Finally, based on my insurance's annual allowance, I went to another (non-Tend) doctor. What she told me was that in that area where Dr. Lee had done one of my filling I now have three new cavities. I'm angry at myself for waiting this long to see another dentist, but also extremely disappointed at my Tend experience. I had spoken to someone at Tend about this and he asked if I wanted to go back for a follow-up with Dr. Lee. Absolutely not. read more

BUYER BEWARE My bf needed quite a bit of care done and we knew it would be pricey (I work in dental admin so I had a good understanding of price expectations). Bless his heart when they asked him to pay 1100$ he just gave his credit card and they didn't provide a receipt which he didn't question. When he got home and told me I was SHOCKED. Long story short, when I followed up with Tend they couldn't tell me what the 1100$ was for. I checked our insurance coverage and he only should have paid about $500. AND THEY BILLED & CHARGED FOR AN EXTRACTION THAT NEVER HAPPENED. After CONSTANT follow up they FINALLY refunded the ~$500. But our insurance still says he's missing a tooth that's very much still in his mouth.... 2 stars instead of 1 because we had a great provider experience with Stella and Dr. Brad (I went for a cleaning/checkup before as well). But like others have said the scheduling is a MESS(every.single. Appointment. Was cancelled 30 min-2 hours before) and they charge you arbitrary amounts. I saw this place on tik tok and knew I had to try. My friend actually went there a bit before me and he referred me so we both earned amazon gift cards for that. I was running a bit late when I checked in but luckily I made it within the 15 minute grace period or else my appointment would have been cancelled and I would have been charged $50. Although I submitted my insurance online, when I talked to the receptionist they said they didn't see it on file and would need to contact my insurance or else I would end up having to pay out-of-pocket, but luckily they said they could start my appointment and would stop me before doing anything that could incur a charge. They also at one point tried to tell me I had some procedure lined up when they must have accidentally confused me with someone else because I was just going in for a regular cleanup. The hygienist was a bit rough, but that might have just been because my teeth hadn't been thoroughly cleaned since before covid. read more

This was the easiest dentist visit ever! The dental hygienist was so nice and communicated every step along the way. The environment was very clean and modern, with Netflix shows on the TV, headphones and sunglasses. I really liked how every step was paperless and they keep your card on file for payments, so there is no hassle when checking in and out.
