I've been coming to Dr. Howard Silver for years, and I can confidently say this office is truly one of the best. I had a cleaning today with Margaret (the hygienist), and it was hands down the best cleaning I've ever had. She was so thorough, gentle, and genuinely sweet -- she made the whole experience feel easy and comfortable. Marisol at the front desk is always so welcoming and kind (plus she has amazing taste in books -- we had a great little chat!). Huge shoutout as well to Jennifer and Stephanie, Dr. Silver's assistants -- they're both wonderful and always make me feel taken care of. Dr. Silver himself is awesome -- kind, knowledgeable, and trustworthy. He never pushes unnecessary treatments and truly cares about his patients' health. Dr Howard Silver is a gem in the rough. I lost count how many dentists I had gone through until I wound up with an insurance his office accepted and was able to get back in. He is conscientious, mindful and takes his time explaining what he is going to do and then the day after he follows up to see how you're doing. How many dentists do that? My last dentist I had up to 1.5 hour waits, Dr Silver's office you won't wait more than a few minutes because they don't treat their patients like an assembly line operation or cattle call. I've been coming to Dr. Silver for over 10 years, and no dentist compares to him. He's an excellent dentist- skilled and professional. I honestly don't trust anyone else with my teeth. He always calls the next day to check in, which shows how much he truly cares about his patients. Wait time is great too. The single best dentist I have ever been to, period, and I have been to a LOT OF DENTISTS. Been going here for a few years, and now my entire family exclusively comes here as well. The staff are friendly and professional, the procedures - no matter how seemingly traumatizing - are as painless as can be, the conversation is just the best, the work is being done is transparent... I cannot imagine what I would have done without this man. When he retires, I'm letting my teeth fall out of my head, because at this point there is nobody else I'm willing to see. Dr. Silver is one of those bygone era dentists where he makes you feel safe and like family. He also calls the nest day to see how youre doing and always remembers what Ive had done. I have alot of anxiety with the dentist and he goes slowly, tells me what he's doing and never makes me feel badly for my needs. DO not go here if you value your teeth or sanity. This doctor destroyed my rear tooth when it needed a filling replacement. He left me in excruciating pain and the tooth was loose for three months. I have a genetic disorder that causes enamel hypoplasia and problems with my connective tissue and the doctor was informed of this. Also I have issues with the anesthic used which I also informed the dentist of. He made fun of me in the office. He did not perform the procedure that was necessary at the time, and chose to destroy my tooth that was perfectly fine. I am currently seeking legal representation to sue. The assistants also hurt my mouth just taking xrays as the thing didn't fit well and they jammed it in my mouth and cut my gums. read more

Service was amazing !! after days of being in pain (wisdom tooth bottom right broke) no one trying to pull it, I call here and they were able to fit me in. this was this first time I've ever had to get a tooth pulled and I must say I didn't feel a thing, NOTHING at all. I moved to NYC about 4 years ago and had been in search for the right doctor for all of my needs. Unfortunately, after finding out I needed a root canal, I found Dr. Silver trough Cigna as a highly rated physician in my area so I went, 0 expectations other than to get my tooth issue fixed and move on with my life. Not only did I find that, I found a very kind doctor who took the time to take me through the steps of what he was doing, calm my nerves and tell great stories while he did so. His staff is also extremely kind and diligent when it comes to answering any questions and setting up appointments. After my root canal Dr. Silver told me he would check in on me the next day but I expected a dental assistant. He PERSONALLY called me to see how my tooth was healing and did the same thing after I went to get fitted for my permanent crown. NYC is a good place and is made even better by people like Dr. Silver and his practice, people who take the time to not only ensure you're receiving the best care, but that you're healing well after. I made an appointment with Dr. Silver based on the excellent Yelp reviews he received, and now I can add another positive review to the list. From the very kind and friendly Liz at the reception desk, to Angie, who took my x-rays and helped me feel completely comfortable, to Bayo (sp?), who gave my teeth a very gentle and thorough cleaning, all of the dental staff were excellent. When Dr. Silver examined my teeth, I knew I was in the presence of a highly competent professional. He explained everything he was doing and discussed in detail his suggestions for addressing my dental issues. He was very friendly and gentle and exuded confidence and experience. I am thrilled to have found such an excellent dental practice and could not recommend Dr. Silver and his staff more highly. Update: Today, I visited Dr. Silver to have a tooth extracted. Once again, the gentleness and competence of everyone in the office, and Dr. Silver's expertise and reassuring presence, made what could have been a frightening experience into an event that was no big deal. read more

I needed to find a local dentist, Dr. Silver was close, and the reviews were great, so I gave him a shot. I don't have insurance so I called up prior to scheduling an appointment to inquire about pricing. Very, very reasonable and fair pricing. And, no surprises at the end of the visit. Pricing was on point. Staff was very friendly, especially the receptionist. Dr. Silver doesn't push procedures or anything. Will tell you straight up how it is, what is needed, what can wait. Really awesome guy. I had to get 2 cavities done -- during the procedure he always asked if I was in pain so he could give me more anesthesia. Didn't feel rushed along either. Spoke about dental history and potential procedures for my front teeth (again no pressure here). After the cavities I had a cleaning. Extremely quick, efficient, and painless really. I was recommended to Dr.Silver by MANY people in the neighborhood and Im so glad I went. Just came back from a cleaning but came in originally because I thought it was time to take out my wisdom teeth. He flat out told me I dont need to take them out unless they were bothering me. There are dentists out there that would do what you ask just to charge for it. He is NOT that kind of dentist. He prides himself in making people happy, not making that extra penny(Im sure he does well without it, he is a dentist after all). I have already recommended him to my best friend. If I could review Dr. Sliver separately, I would give him 4 1/2 Stars. He was nice and friendly. I could not like a dentist more... and they frighten me. My only issue is, the dental assistant which took my x-rays and gave me a cleaning. First of all, I could hardly understand a word she was saying when she was doing the X-rays. Then she was extremely rough with the cleaning. It came to a point where she was hurting me so much, that they had to numb my mouth with the "special liquid" as she called it. Dr. Silver must be extremely popular. Called today (morning time) for an appointment and was told to call back in ten minutes. Sure, no problem. I call back a half hour and am put on hold. A couple of minutes later, another receptionist picks up the phone and tells me that she will call me back and takes my phone number. No return phone call and it's the end of the work day. I'm selective about going to dentist in general, admit that not only it can be painful but could also cause a lot of money when things go wrong which ended up being the case. From the reviews and location this seemed like the best choice. I'm writing this review hoping to save those who have crown or veneer work done so you don't make the same mistake. He seemed nice enough but won't admit to his mistakes. Like he knows my tooth better then I do? Specifically not admitting to cracking my veneer after a routine cleaning. Whether or not he believes he's in the right, the fact remains that I walked in without a cracked tooth and walked out with one. Currently the Dr. won't fix or admit to the problem.. In fact he suggested that I should see a psychiatrist after telling him how upset I am. I am now left with a hefty bill on restoring the veneer. Patient beware. read more

Walking by the many "Family Dentistry" centers on Grand Street almost made me turn on my heels before I got to Dr. Silver's door. So glad that I went. He's very thorough- took two x-rays of the tooth that was bothering me (in addition to the copies that my former Dentist had sent over.) And, for the first time in my dental history- he explained everything-like I was an intelligent person capable of understanding. It was great. He tested the suspect tooth with hot and cold, and explained options for me to choose from. He's a friendly, efficient, smart dentist. His prices were extremely reasonable for those of us without insurance ($45 for my consultation included the X-rays) and he also accepts many kinds of insurance. You can also get an appointment in a reasonable time frame. That's important to him. Great. all around. I don't know why those "other" Dental Centers think that they can mislead you with oversized pictures of happy smiling teeth. That's a farce. If teeth were that large, and able to man their own brushes, they would have to be extracted which would make them angry, not happy. More likely, they would brandish a sword rather than a cleaning implement. Why not pictures of angry teeth and happy dentists... to teach us not to "kill the messenger" as it were... read more

Friendly, professional, thorough, thoughtful, and most of all honest, which is a dying quality in NYC dentists, it seems. I've been going to Dr. Silver for almost 3 years now. He got me through a mysterious, confusing, painful tooth problem, giving me all my options and realistic cost estimates, as I didn't have insurance at the time. Ended up going with a root canal that was almost entirely painless. Since then, he's kept tabs on it, monitoring the tooth and gum's healing over time. I'll never visit another dentist as long as I live in the city, and even if I move away, Dr. Silver's quality experience may be worth an occasional flight back in! read more

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would... I had woken up this morning to excruciating pain in my front tooth to the point where I couldn't stop crying so I quickly did my research and called Dr. Silver's office. The dental assistant answered and immediately sympathized with me as I'm sure he could hear the pain in my voice. Without another word he told me I could come in as soon as possible. When I got there I must have waited for maybe 15 or 20 minutes and let me tell you - Never in my 25 years of life have I ever encountered a more competent and knowledgeable dentist and staff. Dr. Silver, as well as his assistant were so comforting and reassuring that I couldnt help but smile with relief, despite having cried for much of the morning. They were so pleasant and gentle with me and the doc talked me through EVERY. SINGLE. STEP. Even at the slightest wince, he would immediately stop whatever he was doing to comfort me and readjust what he was doing so as not to cause me further pain. So attentive and genuinely concerned with my well being - I honestly felt like royalty. I ended up having to get a root canal done and I must say, I am one lucky patient to have found this place..Dr. Silver is truly one of a kind. He was thorough, attentive, and so precise. After the procedure, he wrote up some antibiotics and pain meds for me and even gave me his personal number for any emergencies. Roughly 8 hours later, I am a new woman! The pain is completely gone (and not due to meds) and I can finally smile without cringing from discomfort. All in all: the professionalism of this practice is bind blowing - no joke - I can't believe I'm actually saying this but after having met Dr. Silver and his sweet assistant I have never had so much respect and admiration for a dentist!!! The prices are more than reasonable, the service EXCELLENT, and the doctor - a true and remarkable professional. Doctor Silver is the kind of dentist that makes going to the dentist -- dare I say -- FUN? High on my own bravery, bolstered by Dr Silver's ineffable kindness and patience (and the tranquilizers I load up on in order to drag myself to one of the previously most terrifying experiences of my life), I had to give him and his adorably sweet dental assistant a huge hug after my last visit, during which I had two painful cavities filled. He is also super honest and ethical. Another local dentist (who I went to while Dr Silver was unavailable due to moving his practice) told me I had three cavities and tried to pressure me into getting work done immediately, and it felt sketchy, so I left. Two weeks ago, Dr Silver found only two teeth that needed work, one of them being an old filling that needed to be replaced. Hmm. I'm so glad I didn't get needless work done!! Four years ago, I met Dr Silver when I made an emergency appointment for my first root canal and crown EVER, and he won my heart with his patience of a saint when he let my best friend come back with me and hold my hand during the procedure. When my boyfriend -- also mortally terrified of dentists -- broke his tooth and thought his life was over and he'd have to have an extraction, I brought him to Dr Silver. Dr Silver saved the tooth, and my boyfriend completely fell in love and is no longer scared of the dentist! (Or at least this amazing dentist.) Doctor Silver's staff also reflects the diversity of the neighborhood and the ladies are fun and cool and always make us feel welcome. His new, modern office is really nice, and the computer system displays in each room make it easy to understand what work has been done, has to be done, and how much everything will cost, so no surprises! He's gone the extra mile for me a number of times. This is a long horror story with a very happy ending. A few years ago one of my front incisors broke in half, I had no dental insurance (still don't), and at the time was seing another dentist (whom I will review separately). This dentist told me that for $800 he could at least give me a root canal, post and temporary crown. Well, I showed up to my appointment with the $800 I had saved up in cash which was no small feat for me at the time and got in the chair, he performed the root canal and that was it! He informed me that if I wanted the post it would be an additional $300-$400!! I was crushed and fighting back tears on my way home, I was missing one of my front teeth for god sakes, and this guy just robbed me! I had no written agreement with the dentist and as such felt I had no recourse but to not return. So I began seeing the dentist at the William F. Ryan Center who was fantastic in his own right, did a wonderful job with cleanings and several fillings but informed me that sadly, they were not equipped for the procedure I would need to fix that tooth. instead he wrote me a referral to NYU dental School... and the nightmare resumed. It was patently obvious they were trying to pass me off to as many students as possible for "experience" at NYU. I was told my root canal would have to be redone, I would need a process called "Crown Lengthening" and then the post and crown all at a total cost to me of $2,500 and 6 months worth of time!!! It was at that point I just decided to have the remnants of the tooth pulled and get a denture until I could afford an implant (at roughly the same cost NYU quoted me for the root canal) So I made an appointment to have it extracted, luckily when I showed up I was informed there were no students there that day experienced enough to extract the tooth!! So they sent me home. Which leads me to the present... I am getting married in a month and was determined to do something about this tooth before that time. So I visited Dr. Silver yesterday on the glowing recommendation of a close friend. I kept my expectations in check as a result of my previous experiences and expected a series of appointments or perhaps just an extraction. After having one quick X-ray by a friendly tech. Dr. Silver came in and introduced himself. He was friendly, honest and direct. He listened to all my concerns and backstory and expressed sympathy for all the crap I had been through. He next informed me, that my root canal was just fine and he could start the procedure immediately! He told me the whole procedure would cost $1,050 (less than HALF of what I had been quoted by anyone else) and he could send me home that day with a post and temporary crown! Needless to say I was overjoyed at the news. He gave me a great looking crown within 2 hours and my permanent should be finished and in place in 2 weeks! Silver had a great, direct, no hassle, no-BS approach, he is friendly but above all trustworthy, honest and thorough. The attention he and care he took crafting just my temporary crown did not go unnoticed by me. His dedication and love for his work shows through in it's quality. Thanks to him I in a few weeks I will be married with a full set of teeth. For that I am incredibly grateful. He will have all my return business and any referral I can possibly send his way. One of the scariest dental cleanings ever. I went based on all these great reviews but compared to technology, facilities and services of my previous dentist this place was way out of date and in need of serious upgrading. The young female dental assistant, while very nice, was not very skilled,, bruising and battering my gums with her way too old and unwieldy cleaning tool. Just goes to show that yelp is partly about shilling. Better to go with recommendations from people you know if you can! read more
