TKK is such a wonderful restaurant and I have enjoyed every one of my visits there over the years. If you're looking to have a casual weeknight dinner (or even takeout) or celebrating a special occasion, Teikoku can do the job with tasty food and great service (without breaking the bank too!). We were a table of four and worked our way through the menu, splitting everything and if you don't want your own platter I would definitely recommend doing this. Sushi was great, the gyozas were solid, the duck appetizer was a delight to eat and I could go on. The Teikoku sushi roll was different and I'm glad I tried that too! Cocktails were fun too! The servers are chill but very attentive without being overbearing and are nice to chat with whether it's about life or the menu. The food is a neat mix of Asian fusion with lots of special dishes and a few classic favorites. This place may look a little off the beaten path and random on the pike but do not be fooled. It is very fine cuisine with fantastic service and food. I had gone here once years ago but my cousin was raving about it and we came together last night. It was sooo nice! We loved it. We highly suggest starting with the kobe beef hot rock. You legit cook your own kobe beef on a hot stone slab. it's so fun and cool. And good obviously. It was a one of a kind experience. If you're not coming here and getting the kobe beef hot rock you're doing everything wrong lol. They have Some of the best sushi around us. But I will say serving size was tiny. 6 little pieces for $13 for volcano roll. It was fine and on par with other places but still. Fried ice cream was so good too. We loved it. Exotic mushroom appetizers: mushrooms were savory and perfectly sweet and salty, portion was more for a single person, and the mix had button mushrooms and shiitake, I think. Chef sampler sushi: fish was fresh and tender, 4 pieces, the rice didn't quite stick together though Thai basil lamb chops: succulent, cooked medium rare as requested, basil flavor came through, mashed potatoes were creamy but not overpowering Sesame crusted tuna: well cooked, portion was a little small, plenty of sauce but didn't really need so much, sweet potato mash and plantain were great compliments Honestly, I would give it more of a 3.5 but I think during these times there are some things that are just challenging and that's no ones fault! One of those is that the women's bathroom was a little unkempt (wet floor, 2 stalls without toilet paper) but I think they had a busy night and all the servers were attentive. Worst experience ever at a restaurant. We went to this restaurant because we heard this was a very nice fancy place with great food. When we got in the host very rudely sat us. A very overworked and stressed busser came over to give us water. The water was spilled and got over my wife. A very flamboyant bald server came over and took our order. Our server then disappeared for a while after our appetizers came out. i could see the busser getting yelled at by on of the servers which I thought was horrific because the busser was teenage looking and the server was a 40/50 year old who should know not to yell at someone like that. The food came out and it was not that great. I got the soy chicken and it was not good. The chicken looked and tasted fake. Overly the food was terrible and the service was very great. Fantastic Japanese restaurant that is absolutely worth stopping at for a meal. The Tempura Fondue has a variety of ingredients including lobster, broccoli, shrimp, and a few others. The cheese has a nice sharp flavor that compliments the tempura batter very well. The wings didn't have a lot of sauce, but were quite flavorful and very crispy. The rolls were also very good. The vegetable Tempura isn't anything special but then it's just a normal style roll. The Teikoku is one of their specialty rolls and has a lot of flavors going on. The atmosphere of the place is very warm and inviting. The inside is nicely decorated and kind of fun to be in. The outside area looks really nice especially at night, I definitely want to try eating out there on my next stop. The matter was handled expeditiously and I'm moving on from this topic to get to the good stuff; just like I did at the restaurant. okayyyyyyyyy!!!!! :-) NOW......to the food!!!!!!!!!!!! When (not if) you go, please try the Lobster Tempura Fondue. It comes with ten skewers (lobster, shrimp, broccoli, carrot, sweet potato and zucchini). They serve it with melted Gorgonzola that's to die for. Also, try the Kobe Beef Hot Rock appetizer. My love thought it was the coolest thing and I low-key was excited, because I think I always pick out the best places to feed the soul! I had to try the Chicken Basil Fried Rice that was garnished with Cucumbers, which really balanced the spice and made the taste so refreshing. We had a wonderful experience here tonight. Our waiter (Derek?) was superb - patient with our kids, informative on the menu, kind, timely, and just overall good energy to accompany our dinner. Hub then ordered the Seafood Toban Yaki and I ordered the Soy Sesame Chicken. Both entrées were delicious and hot! The restaurant was very busy, but had a very relaxed atmosphere. When I made the reservation I clearly told the person who took my reservation that I wanted a table for two people and a dog on their deck. I have taken my dog there before many times and had no problems. But this time after we were seated I was told that they don't allow dogs on the deck and they would make an exception this one time as long as the dog would be quiet. If their policy with regards to dogs had changed, I felt this should have been told when I was making the reservation. Since I was celebrating a birthday I decided to leave as didn't want to be at a place where I was not welcomed, even though there were only three tables occupied on the deck. He said it was too dry; they should stick to rum! I got the Teikoku Cocktail, made with champagne and guava juice. Maybe it's intended to be subtle but I could barely taste the guava. Bummer. The food was awesome! We started with the Kobe Hot Rock, which was delicious and fun. He got the Spicy Noodles, which is their Drunken Noodle with chicken instead of seafood. I got the Tom Yam Koong soup (very flavorful, not too spicy) and Chay specialty sushi roll. The sushi was just OK, but certainly not bad! I enjoyed it, it just wasn't anything special. Though I have heard of Teikoku before, a recent meal here was my first. And judging by the food I was served, this is indeed a very fine restaurant. It is a very pretty restaurant with a spacious bar, dining room, sushi bar, and outdoor patio. The slowly dripping fountain at the entrance is very cool ... and perfect for setting the mood for what is to come. I began with a miso soup which was served piping hot and was totally wonderful...especially with a nice touch of wakame. An awesome seaweed salad followed laced with sesame seeds and sesame oil. Perfect! My main course was a Japanese bento box with each section of the box tastier than the previous one. The beef teriyaki was cooked just as I asked it to be and truly was one of the best I have eaten. The tempura was delicious - especially with the fusion gorgonzola dipping sauce. The California rolls were large, nicely wrapped, and flavorful while the greens topped with a ginger dressing were a great complement to all the different flavors. Comforting atmosphere. Delicious food. Interesting service. Pricier than your average meal. Beautiful presentation. My family and I have been patrons of Teikoku for years. Whenever I/we crave Japanese or Thai, it's Teikoku 100% of the time. Whether for dinner, or happy hour, we are there! We love sharing assortments of sushi and starters and sometimes even share entrees! We've never had a complaint about the food. If there's ANYTHING preventing me from giving Teikoku 5 stars, I would say it's the staff. We are kindly greeted at the front door, and the waiters and waitresses are kind and helpful. During happy hour Monica is one of our favorite people to see. However, during our last two visits, we had some bizarre experiences. For one, who seemed to be the manager or supervisor was checking in with only certain people. You know, people with fur coats and Louis V bags. This behavior surprised me, considering we are frequent patrons of Teikoku. It could be something, or nothing, but I felt it was bizarre. I know Teikoku appeals to higher-class tastebuds, but you can't favor one patron over another. In another instance, during happy hour, we came in and sat right down as we usually would. The bartender didn't even greet us, and he just demanded our IDs which we provided. I don't think he said another word to us besides "ok" when we ordered and eventually asked for the check. Just a bizarre guy in general, lacking people skills. As I had mentioned, we have great conversations with a majority of the workers there, but there are a few sour apples that probably shouldn't be in the positions they're in, haha.
