Based on my research, "A hookah (also called shisha or waterpipe) is a multi stemmed smoking instrument designed to heat flavored tobacco and pass the smoke through water before you inhale. The water cools the smoke but does not remove harmful chemicals." Although it had a different name (Desert Kings), it was a hookah lounge. Located off Anderson Mill in the corner of a strip mall is a bookshelf with a door on the right side. If you cannot figure out the entrance, there is a doorbell to ring as well. I believe it is owned by the same people who own The Mill bar right next door, which makes it feel like a cool bonus space. My friend and I sat next to a faux fireplace, where we were greeted by the only bartender working and placed our order. Once he opened the tab, it was disappointing that he never came back to check if we wanted another drink. It wasn't super busy on the Monday we went, but since he was the only one manning the bar, the bartender was always doing something, so I don't blame him fully for not checking back in with us. I ordered a drink called the Velvet Vice. It looked nothing like the picture and tasted similar to an Aviation cocktail with egg whites. I happened to really like it. We sat on high bar stools and overlooked the celebration directly in front of the Live band stage. We avoided crowd crushing, liquid spills on your clothing and the screaming that was taking place below. The great news was it was 77 Degrees rooftop was completely free. Amazing to hear the music from below in an open air environment In addition, the 77 degrees DJ was spinning pop, hip hop and other dance music. While the area is relatively small, they had roped off VIP sections with bottle service. We did not have any food as at this juncture we were not hungry. Because 77 Degrees has an open air setting, it was pleasant to sit and watch the band.

We ended up getting the "Queen of Sex" flavor, which was quite good. The guy brought the hookah out pretty quickly, but that's kinda where the service ended as he seemed to more interested in his phone convo. There was so fun 90s music playing overhead, but for some reason, that just turned off, so all you could hear was the guy talking on his phone? I'm not sure how quality the shisha was, but the entire time our hookah burned way too hot so it was hard to inhale and I have a feeling the "ice hose" only made matters worse. I have never had such a harsh hookah experience in my life! Both my friend and I were coughing and the guy never came to check on us. I kept trying to move the coals around and even removed all but one, but it continued to be very harsh to inhale, so after about 30mins, my friend and I just gave up and left. For the steep price of $20 (which usually there are special prices for that late at night at other places I have gone) for the awful experience, I will not be back.

We began with a dramatic escalator entrance. When you get off the escalator and go left (only possible direction), you see a sea of sardine-packed people dancing like it is there last night of earth. There is a small section of the club with stadium-like seating and a standing area. The music was blasting so loud your body was literally vibrating. A huge LED lit wall showing different designs was the focal point. A DJ was spinning some high energy songs. It was on and popping. We stayed at The Rose Room for a very short while in fear that our ear drums would explode. In my 20s I used go out a lot with friends...surprised I have any hearing today. The key is when music is that loud, you don't linger. This is a drinks only club with a bar inside the club.

Many from Central TX are familiar with spot as there are locations in Houston, Dallas, the North Austin/Domain area. This location in the Domain is like the others in that there are free unlimited old school games for adults like skee-ball, pinball, arcade games, etc. The bar has a laid-back feel and features 24 beers on tap and a specialty Sake bomb menu. Conversely....Texans may recognize this bar's name from some controversy it's generated over the years. The bar chain came under heavy scrutiny for what potential guests insisted were racist door-management policies. Given the furor this generated, it was probably easy to overlook that the Kung Fu Saloon was repeatedly investigated by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) over the years (Yowzah). Controversy aside, this place may be worth a visit if you come early and have the place to yourself. When the bar is full, service is often slow but drinks are still poured with a heavy hand. In addition, the food is that of dive bar standards, therefore it is advisable not to come to this location hungry.
