Honey butter covered cornbread from a hot skillet after being seated is one of the greatest gifts of life. After the friendly greeting and being seated, you can imagine our surprise when this hot sweet delicacy came out to be devoured. There's actually a lot of room in this place and very well set up. We ordered a couple of their specialties barbecue pulled pork sandwich platter comes with two sides fried chicken sandwich fried cauliflower as an appetizer. Catfish and Whiting combo. We got string beans, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, baked beans and potato salad so we're gonna try a little bit of everything. First thing that came out with a cauliflower bites we both agreed we would've preferred if they were a little bigger but flavor wise so addicting we couldn't stop eating them. It was like a little popcorn cauliflower bites eight out of 10 definite smash. The catfish and Whiting was fried to perfection, soft delicate white meat, not overcooked every single side transported me back to be a teen teenager grown-up around the Sunday dinner table. The last thing we actually smashed was the sandwiches the fried chicken sandwich which is known for with flavorful very tender. You can tell she pounded out her own cutlet and hand breaded fried to perfection. The pulled pork sandwich was like sweet meat candy each bite of the pork butt was soft and tender, and that sweet sauce just complimented the brioche bun all the sides. I can't talk about enough and I'm waiting for her to come back around so I can get a refill on my watermelon Kool-Aid get down here if you're looking for some good soul food and some barbecue this is your spot. read more

Soul food in Oxford, PA! I stopped here after I found this restaurant on Yelp. Quick Look over the menu and I decided on the BBQ chicken sandwich and fried okra. Baaabbbyyy, lemme tell you about that okra..... The BBQ chicken sandwich was delicious as well, don't want to leave that out. I just love when fried okra is done well and seasoned like you do it at home....I've had fried okra without any seasoning. Definitely recommend!!!! The restaurant is cute with nice atmosphere. The food is incredible! Just Go! The fried catfish was perfection. Mac n cheese is addictive, wish I had brought more home. Loved the Sweet potatoes, the cornbread is So GOOD! It took me 47 minutes to get to Teens Place and I tell you, I would have driven another 47 minutes. The soul food is just what it was, a lot of soul. The food was so good. Our waitress Cindy was the best and the chef and owner was there to greet us. The music and atmosphere was so relaxing, but yet you wanted to get up and dance. Catina, yes, I know the owner's name, she made you feel like family. I have to brag about her food now, it was so delicious. The way she served it was so cute. Tried to come here once before here. They have kinda limited hours. Only open for dinner and certain nights of the week. I asked the lady at the counter "what makes the famous chicken sandwich so famous". I heard this chuckle emanate from a corner table where I am assume the proprietor named "Teen" was sitting. She explained it was the sauce and the pickles. I skipped the pickles. It certainly is special and huge and moist. The cornbread features a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar. The beans have a smoked Hawaiian flavor. Like pineapple maybe. The Mac and cheese Seems to be homemade though. I'm saving 1/2 the sandwich and beans for tomorrow. I grew up in southwest Louisiana and have missed southern soul food. I've been twice now to Teens Place and will be back many more times. The moment you put the hot cornbread, sprinkled with brown sugar and lathered in butter and served in a cast iron skillet in your mouth you'll know you made a wise choice. The shrimp and grits, a southern favorite, took me back to Oxford Mississippi. The collard greens made me smile. They taste like MawMaw Myers' greens. The chicken and waffles were the perfect combination-seasoned well and served warm and crispy. Oh and I can't forget the fried okra! I was so full but it just felt wrong to leave one behind. Soul food that truly shows that the soul makes the experience. The food was incredible (catfish, chicken, shrimp and grits, greens, sweet potatoes, CORNBREAD, and more), but what made it memorable was the service. Even after having to wait quite a while (they were hosting a large event in the back room), the service was incredible. The food came out hot and fresh and made with love. We picked up a take out order for a friend of ours who finds it difficult to prepare meals due to some health issues. The meal was comprised of catfish, french fries and green beans. We had asked for smaller portions due to her lack of a hearty appetite. She gave us a call later in the evening to tell us that the meal tasted just like a homemade meal and not like a restaurant take out. I cannot sing enough praise for Teen's place. Teen herself is very friendly as well as the rest of the staff, and the food itself is some of the best soul food I've ever had. I had fried whiting and was surprised at how much I got for the price, not to mention the fry itself was to die for. Candied Yams were amazing and just the right texture, and the collards had cabbage which I've never had before but was also very good. The cornbread was a perfect mix of savory and sweet - I hate corn bread that is too much like cake. We seemed to be opening up the dinner hour one recent Friday with our 5:45 reservation -- the main dining room was empty. But it did fill soon, with several twos and fours and one group of about 15. The fried chicken sandwich platter brought me a decent sized piece of chicken breast plus a couple pickle slices and a little sauce (barely tasted; wonder if I missed something there) on a roll, plus two sides. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich, no sides. We also ordered hush puppies and they came in a paper cone with enough deliciousness to really cut into the appetite -- maybe as many as 10 hush puppies, mouth-watering.
