We have been meaning to try good for years..... It's a mistake not to be repeated. We ordered online and it was ready early (I was trying to time it so I would arrive before the ready time). I called to make sure it would still be warm and was assured it would be. Picked up and was home within 15 minutes. Food was cold and had to be microwaved. Great with gluten-free options, as one of the owners is celiac. They're very familiar with those needs and they were able to provide a pretty good meal with all that in mind. I ordered online and picked up in store, and it was a pretty seamless and quick process. They have a separate area for picking up orders vs eating in, which helps with making it faster to pick up orders. This was admittedly quite a long time ago, so my memory about the food itself is a bit spotty, but I think it stayed pretty well for when we ate it. Inside looks pretty nice too, but didn't eat in at the time. Maybe one day in the future. If they can do well with keeping dairy and egg ingredients at bay, even better! read more

What a stellar revamp to this place! Last time I came here, the diner was a tad forgettable and old timey, but I came in today because the food was legit, and they blew me away! The whole place has a diverse and incredible theme, a delicious menu, and a bunch of great staff. Not only did the onion petals impress as an appetizer, the namesake BBQ ribs were the best I've had in years. The eating space, even for the table for two we had, was spacious and sturdy. Wi-Fi is free here, which is great since the area is no signal. The price is pretty fitting, but the portions you get are supreme. Everything comes with a variety of sides and salads, and despite having only wooden chairs, they were pretty comfy. The restaurant even has a little shop section where you can get merch of them, but also their house made BBQ sauce! Staff is super helpful and friendly. A true 5 star experience! Very good. The max Mac & cheese was cooked perfectly and with the perfect amount of goo. The baked beans, not so great texture. Others had pulled pork nachos, the Hoodie sandwich , and pulled pork. All were very happy with their selections. My only complaint was the raspberry iced tea tasted like it had synthetic sweetener in it. Oh, and the deviled eggs are WAAAYYY too salty and the flavor is off. Unfortunate because I love BBQ restaurant deviled eggs and raspberry tea. I came here at the request of a friend of mine and I know he likes BBQ. I've lived a few years in TX, so I think my tastes are a little more picky than his, but I'm getting ahead of myself. This place is really cute with super knowledgeable and attentive staff. We arrived an hour prior to the traffic coming to a peak, so we had her full attention. I know the place is family run, but I don't think that our server was "in the family". I was determined to get brisket as I haven't really found anything in PA to be what I call Black's or Salt Lick comparable on brisket. And....I still haven't found it. While the waitress insisted that if I tried the brisket, I would find it to be flavorful if not fatty, it was just too lean. The BBQ sauce was nice and not too sweet or spicy. But what *was* too sweet was the sweet tea. They advertised a strawberry tea and a regular tea. I ordered the regular and I think they must be cross contaminating it with the strawberry tea because it was too sweet. My friend who had been here before ordered a full rack of baby back ribs, with the intent of bringing half of it home for a future dinner. I should have followed his lead when he ordered. He let me try one of his ribs, and I will say that I will be coming back, but only for the ribs. As far as the sides go, nothing really stands out. Anyone know anyone in this part of PA which makes a nice batch of Charro beans? Dessert appeared to be homemade and it was nice and tasty and not overly sweet. As far as the restricted bar operation goes, let's just say that in this part of the country, it is difficult to get a full liquor license. We were limited to PA selections of only wine or beer. I just ate an early dinner outside at Hood's BBQ. My husband and I chose Hood's tonight because they had my favorite special tonight, turkey burnt ends. The burnt ends came with a choice of two sides. I am a big fan of their applesauce, and had a double order. It also came with a biscuit or cornbread. If you are a big cornbread lover like me, I recommend their cornbread. We split our meals- my husband ordered the rare bison burger, homemade potato chips and side of baked beans. The baked beans are the best restaurant beans we have ever tasted. I should have said what appetizer that we had first. We had the specials- shrimp and corn chowder (my favorite summer soup I have ever tried at Hoods's), and delicious oysters. We were served by a nice manager, Deanna, who is exceptional friendly and remembered our orders. I am intelligent, but not that smart enough to have an excellent memory like her. After dinner, we went into their take-out place to shop for my lunch for tomorrow. I bought some chicken salad and a side order of coleslaw, because I don't want to cook! I have never had chicken salad here, and I had a spoonful of it when I got home. It was to die for. I love coming here. I don't need to get dressed up. We had the buffalo burger and ribs and chicken platter. Ribs and chicken were good but a little dry. The buffalo burger was smaller in diameter than a McDonalds hamburger. Such a great small business to support. We had lunch on a weekday and this wasn't our first visit. The dining room has been refurbished since our last visit and it's just super cozy and clean. I came for the deviled eggs because they're always perfect. I had the hoodie with chicken and it was scrumptious and hit all the flavors. I can't eat gluten and I always feel safe here because they're knowledgeable. Their fryer is safe which's a treat. My Husband had ribs and they were done perfectly. We both think the baked beans are excellent. I had the seasonal cider and it was so good I'm going back for a quart. Our server was pleasant and prompt while being friendly and informative. We were sat in front of the fireplace it was so cozy. We were thanked as we were leaving by a gentleman who could've been the owner or chef. I'm not sure. It was a very genuine gesture. We stayed at Hood's and tried every Old Stone Cider and two of Hood's smoked meat sandwiches. Spoiler alert; we loved everything. Including the decor. Stopped here last week for dinner with my husband. We had a great meal and would not hesitate to come again. I ordered the BBQ Pulled Chicken Platter which came with two sides + cornbread or a biscuit. My sides were the 3-Cheese Potatoes (nice), and the Mac & Cheese (I thought this was way better than your average BBQ joint mac which I usually find to be overcooked and mushy. Hood's retained some bite and was in a nice cheese sauce. Plus it was made with cavatappi which automatically makes it fun). I got the cornbread which was tasty, just cakier than I expected. The pulled chicken itself was good, although the barbecue sauce was just a touch too sweet for my liking (to be expected with BBQ sauce though). I have to admit I was jealous of my husband's pulled pork after trying a bite of his, so I would definitely go with that meat option next time! Although we are not usually ranch people, we split & enjoyed the Garden Salad with the Parmesan Peppercorn Ranch. Their dresssings are all made in-house which definitely drew us in. The hot food in general seemed to be cooked very nicely, but a little underseasoned. There was salt on the table so it wasn't a big deal, but I did think a little more added to the food could have kicked it up a notch. Our server was great and also was able to accomodate a special request for us. I was really interested in trying the Vanilla Butter and local Apple-Raspberry Jam that came with the Grilled Cornbread appetizer, but I didn't want to add an extra order since we had already ordered a good amount of food and our entrees each came with bread. So I asked if I could add these on the side and she said yes. I am so glad they were able to do that (for a small upcharge) because that Vanilla Butter was amazing! I think it would be awesome if the restaurant advertised this on the menu as an add-on. Looking forward to our next visit to Hood's. read more

It's the beginning of October. Lion and I plan a weekend get-away at the nearby KOA Campground. We got a cabin, complete with plumbing & a kitchen, because we're not hardcore campers. We want comfort, and in the Age of Corona, not sharing space with others is a huge factor in our decision making. We also had a gift card to Hoods, a Christmas present from the previous year, which we planned to use during our stay because it's close by and the food is delicious. When we ordered, we noticed what we think was a shift to a more takeout-friendly menu, though we only go once a year when we stay at KOA so it could just be us. I have only three things to say here: Honey. Stung. Chicken. OMG was it delicious, unique, fried chicken. The kind of fried chicken that you end up devouring. It was crispy, but not over-breaded, and the honey added a nice sweet tang to the taste. I seriously have had dreams about this chicken since that weekend, and am kinda sorta planning a road trip to get a fix. Lion got the brisket, which he devoured, making happy eating noises. He said tender, flavor infused in the meat, really good, no I can't have any OK just one bite that's enough go away. Ordering & pickup were a breeze, they had good safety measures in place due to COVID, they were super nice and the food was well packaged for the short ride back to the campground. I heard rave reports from people about this restaurant. For my first time here, I was not at all impressed with the quantity of food compared to the price. We got a half rack or ribs, pulled pork, and brisket. The ribs had barely any meat on them. There were maybe 3 slices of brisket and a spoon full of pulled pork. Way overpriced at $36. Our total bill was $120 for 3 people. Maybe they get great reviews since it is the only restaurant in the area. The meat was well smoked. I was burping hardwood smoke flavor for the rest of the day and evening. Just really surprising a meat place can't get better quality ribs with some meat on the rack. read more

This was my second time going here and both experiences were amazing. Our server Lucy was super kind and helpful and made the experience that much better. The food on the other hand is out of this world! I had "the hoodie" which is there famous sandwich and the namesake And it does not disappoint. Pulled pork as an art and they have it down Pat! My parents had cheesecakes and bison burgers and they loved it very much. I cannot recommend this place more. I'm visiting my mom and stepdad from New York City and I can tell you that this will be our new go to whenever I come down. Left my credit card behind. Yesterday I decided to get BBQ on a whim. I drove over to Unionville (the drive to Hood's is a treat in itself) to see if they were open. I called and placed an order from the parking lot and hung out for a bit in the car. They do door dash delivery and curbside pick up too. When my 10 minutes were up, I went around back to their takeaway area. Oh my gosh it smells sooo good by their building!! Popped my mask on and went inside. Food was already ready and they had some delicious looking pies, cornbread and desserts available. I added on a cornbread too. They even had some household things for sale. Took the food home (about 15 min drive) and when I got there it was still warm and perfect. We had The Hoodie sandwich (pulled pork bbq with homemade coleslaw and provolone cheese) with baked beans and broccoli salad. The sandwich was huge! I ended up eating half of mine as a sandwich and half as an open face meat and coleslaw plate. I actually hate coleslaw but I have been developing a taste for it when it is totally fresh and on bbq. This was delicious! The bbq was tender and just what I wanted. All of the sides were good. Definitely check it out. There is plenty of parking across the street, and some spots around back if you are getting take out. read more

This place has really cool decor and the bathrooms are actually fun to visit with all of the memorabilia on the walls. The service was good, but we were here for the BBQ and it was awful. The beef brisket was flavorless, dry, and chewy. The BB ribs were overcooked and dry, even the sauce slathered on top did not help. The BBQ chicken was a little better. All of the meats had an "off" taste almost like lighter fluid. There is no smokehouse on the premises so I don't know where they smoke the meats. I wondered if they just add liquid smoke. The only good parts were the fries and selection of beers. I noticed a lot of tables were eating burgers - maybe those are good? We won't be back. read more

I live about 20 minutes from this place, but this is still my go-to place for BBQ. Well worth the travel. We get the half-chicken platter, which also comes with two meats, two sides and cornbread. We get the pulled pork and brisket as our meats. They offer plenty of sides too, so there's options for everyone. You get a ton of food with the platter, so it's more than enough for two people. Their BBQ sauce itself is amazing--sweet but also perfectly tangy. And the good thing is, you can buy bottles of the BBQ sauce! They have a store at their location where they sell locally made goods, and they also sell family meals to-go. Their desserts always look amazing, although I confess I've never tried them.
