Best meal and service in the city. I am extremely impressed by the kind atmosphere and yummy pancakes. The owner and his wife are so nice and humble. Such a joyful place for friends and family. I ordered this insanely good quesadilla. The tortilla was like so insane and I was so stuffed. The avocado was fresh and the salsa was so good. To my surprise there were no beeg yoshis but the service and charm makes up for it. The owner gave us so much attention I felt like part of the family! Food was delicious. Service was nice. The girl who fixed the plates let me take my time and told me what everything was on the line that I couldn't make out and suggested things when I got stuck. The waitress was nice and they welcomed me there since I was as a first timer and invited me back and to come earlier since they tend to sell out of certain things. I visited Ted's for the first time last week and enjoyed it very much. The service was quick and friendly. I had the greek shrimp, roasted sweet potatoes and green beans. The sweet potatoes had a nice crispy outside and were very yummy. The shrimp was not overcooked and seasoned well. My friend had the greek chicken and it was very moist. The only downside was the prices. I thought for 1 meat and 2 vegetables 11 dollars was a little high. I would definately return and next time save room for dessert. read more

I went to Ted's restaurant in Birmingham for lunch. This was my first time trying out Ted's. When we went, it was not that busy which was nice. We were seated right when we entered. To order, you go up to the counter and you tell them what you want. They also have specific "daily specials" depending on what day you go which is nice to choose from! This place has meats, veggies, and mouth watering desserts which I was in love with! I got the fried chicken, cream potatoes, mac & cheese, and corn. The food came out hot and fairly quickly! The quantity of the food came in a large portion which was nice since this restaurant can get pricey quickly. For the dessert, I got the chocolate pie. I loved the chocolate pie, it looked appetizing and tasted amazing! It definitely felt like a home cooked meal. The staff was nice and welcoming. The restaurant was clean too. The ambience was nice, big and southern feel. I did not see any COVID precautions since all the tables were open for the customers to sit. As far as parking, they have a small parking lot but you will have to street park if the restaurant gets busy. The restaurant area is not the safest place to eat at but not the worst either. On vacation in Alabama, we asked around where real southern cooking could be found and heard Ted's was the best in Birmingham. We were not disappointed SUPER good food and VERY helpful staff. We had a delicious lunch of fried chicken and probably the best green beans I have ever had. And banana pudding that was probably the best desert ever. We walked in a few minutes past 9:30, when they stop serving breakfast, and the cook gave the wink-nod that he would still hook us up. Whew! This confirmed what others said on here- that this is a place with heart. The food was delicious: vegetarian hubby got a greek omelette that he really enjoyed, and my grits and eggs were good. I mean, breakfast isn't too complicated, but the portions were just right, the service friendly without being over the top, and the atmosphere cozy for the a.m. hours. This was my first time stopping by teds and I got exactly what I expected. I love the feel of that old time local southern food and they delivered. With the cafeteria style service to really get the feel that you along with the rest of the patrons are right at home. I've been to some meat and threes where I feel like a car on an assembly line but here the service was amazing people were nice and chatty. The food as well was southern as it comes and looked amazing. The only problem I truly had with the meal was that the food was warm but not really hot hot. I love this restaurant! I was only in Birmingham for one day. I had never been there before. I have some food restrictions, so I was trying to find a restaurant that would have a lot of choices. The owner, his wife, and the waitresses are so hospitable and warm. I asked them about recommendations on hotels in the area, and they made me feel like I was family. I recommend this restaurant 100% and if I'm ever back in Birmingham, you better be sure that I will visit Ted's! read more

My son gets therapy nearby at the hospital and we drop by for a quick meal before or after (owner Tassos always give him a cookie :) (although the whole time, we mistakenly called him Mr. Ted!) Tommy and I were in town for a conference and had a rental car. We prefer trying local businesses instead of hotel fare when we can. We searched Yelp for breakfast and found three places that seemed interesting. The first one we stopped at had parking meters out front and wouldn't give us change for a dollar to park before we bought something. Weird, but that motivated us to move on and we went to Ted's Diner. Yeah. Free standing diner with free parking that opened in the 1970's. Barbara waited on us and was a sweetheart. I had the Greek omelet and Tommy has the Western omelet. Both came with grits and a biscuit and the food was delicious. We spent about an hour there enjoying the atmosphere and drinking about 5 cups of good coffee. We will go back next time we're in Birmingham and hopefully try some of their lunch options. I guess arriving at 1:30 was the issue (maybe everyone was ready to go), waitress was staring us down, owner rushing us to cash out, food not hot whatsoever. First visit, owner was extremely nice and welcoming, waitress was much more friendlier and not visibly annoyed that we arrived late, food was fresher. Lunch yesterday was NOT a great experience...I am certainly a big fan of Meat & 3 places and was excited about having lunch at Ted's. The place has a typical comfy feel to it with the steam table, cafeteria style serving station right by the door. There were several good looking options available so I just might have chosen the 1 bad dish there. My entree was scorched and tasted scorched...The veggies were fine (not great, not bad, just ok)....several times the servers came near and looked at my drink glass to see if it needed refilling. None of them asked if my food was ok, or why I was not eating the entree.... At the check out, Ted, the owner did ask if all was good. When I told him that this was my first time in and that the food was scorched, he said "I wish you had said something about it" when I said that if anyone had asked then I would have mentioned it. But, no one asked. This is where things got dicey and uncomfortable for me. The owner called my server over and proceeded to confront and correct her right in front of me. It was an awkward moment for me. In all candor I will likely give it another shot if I happen to be in the area, but I will not make any special effort to return. read more

Greens are not over cooked, mashed potatoes have the skins in them, the rolls are perfect, and my husband likes the cornbread.
