"En Vino Veritas" or rather Chicken Riggies. They tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Teddy's makes a killer Chicken Riggies. Perfectly cooked rigatoni pasta, juicy chicken, spicy peppers, mushrooms, in a spicy cream sauce, how is it possible to dislike this dish? My advice, take it slow when eating it. One piece at a time, or you will be spending an hour on the toilet. There is no rush to this. You will enjoy it more if you take your time than just scarfing. That alone is disrespectful to this dish. I only wish more restaurants had this on the menu outside the Utica/Rome/Syracuse region. Once you try this dish, I hope you agree. read more

Looks to be a popular place among boomers and their parents. Yet again another one of my stops among a drive through to Buffalo. The esteemed Chicken Riggies was the dish du jour for us! The descriptions led me to believe i was getting a white wine sauce...maybe it had white wine but it was creamy and with some tomato in there as well. The sauce is delicious! The chicken eh cut up sections uniform and leaving a lot to be desired. Maybe a rotisserie chicken pulled style would amp this up. The mushrooms and peas were cooked perfect. The rigatoni Al dente and a nice toothy chew. However what i found as totally not even needing to be present...the black olives. Whole pitted black olives??? Why? I like black olives but not in my food. Especially not this exquisite compartmentally speaking dish. We look forward to our next riggie experience for sure. read more

They didn't bring us bread and when we asked they still didn't bring any until our meals came out. A true staple restaurant in the area. My boyfriend grew up here and I have heard about Teddy's from his family for years. I finally got to visit and this was our first stop to get the famous Chicken Riggies. The atmosphere is slightly outdated but it is cozy and very friendly. The staff is inviting and helpful and the service was quick. The portions are really big, so we definitely had to take some food to go, but they were great leftovers. My cousin took me to my favorite restaurant in Rome, NY. Teddy's is a great place to eat. There are pictures of Teddy Roosevelt and teddy bears all around. It's a comfortable atmosphere and casual. Our waitress gave us very good friendly service. The food is delicious and the portions are large. I got Chicken Riggies with sweet peppers, mushrooms, onions, olives and chicken with rigatoni on a light wine sauce. The sauce was delish. I got the broccoli cheese soup. Also very good. My cousin got lasagna with a side Cesar salad. It's a large serving of lasagna which is filled with a ground beef and sausage mixture with ricotta and mozzarella cheeses. She said that was also excellent. We left with enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow. If you're ever in the Rome area this is a place to check out. There is a bar but I didn't drink. Their desserts looked good too but we were too full! Maybe next time I'll get dessert first! read more

Party of 4 stopped in as we were traveling. Each of us had something different; Sicilian kiss ( Italian bread with sliced meatballs and eggplant with mozzarella) sandwich, burger, eggplant parm dinner and Reuben. Our dinners were all delicious. Ryan, our waiter, was awesome and refilled drinks without needing to be asked. We think this must be a local favorite and it's probably earned it's reputation as being a go-to. Portions were large so we split the Tollhouse pie with ice cream but their homemade desserts sounded good too! Highly recommend! read more

We went to Teddy's probably about 7 years ago on our first date together, we both got the riggies-I got chicken, he got steak I believe. At the time from what I can remember, it was delicious. However, fast forward 7 years-we took our daughters with us to dinner. Menu was appealing however when I received my dish which was a chicken, sunflower pasta dish -it was mediocre at best. The pasta tenderness was probably the only thing I wouldn't be negative about, the sauce-I can't really explain it, it was poor. the chicken-I'm convinced it's the Walmart chicken that is frozen in a bag that is pre-cut as "grilled chicken" it had a rubbery not fresh taste. Had dinner at Teddy's in Rome, NY this evening. This restaurant came recommended from our hotel. I was told this is the best restaurant in town, so I went to check it out. The restaurant is located in a strip mall. Inside, the décor is very dated and almost has a cafeteria feel to it. The music playing overhead was "freeze frame" when I walked in. At this point, I was worried. When we sat down, our waiter came over and was VERY nice. They didn't have any specials, but there were a few menu items that they were known for. So I ordered them all! The first was the Italian greens, which was Sauteed Escarole with Garlic, capicola, salami, hot chili peppers and Romano cheese. It was actually very tasty. We don't see a lot of escarole in Texas, so it totally of reminded me of home. The escarole was lightly sautéed in olive oil and the capicola and romano cheese gave it that distinct Italian flavor. The peppers provided a little heat, but it was a comfortable spicy and really, that's the way I like it. My entrée was their special: "Chicken Riggies" . I was told that this dish had won the Utica Riggie fest 4 years running and that the dish was in the Utica Riggie fest hall of fame! So, now I'm excited!! "Chicken Riggies" was a rigatoni pasta dish in a white wine, tomato cream sauce with sweet peppers, mushrooms, onions and black olives. It had small cubes of chicken and optional hot cherry peppers, which I chose to get. This dish was delicious and the portion size was very generous. The pasta was cooked al dente and the white wine, tomato cream sauce was very rich. The cherry peppers provided just the right amount of heat. My parents came down to meet me for dinner and I tried their food to, of course. My Dad got the center cut sirloin steak. Sirloin is such a lean meat and because of the lack of fat, it winds up being very dense, although it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. I also thought it could have been seasoned a little better. I feel this place has gone downhill. The rigors are nowhere near the best any more and we're over cooked. Wish they would add some variety besides baked vs fried chicken. Lasagna is just more of the same on the buffet. Ordering off the menu isn't much better and is overpriced for what you get and the quality. read more

I often go to Teddys for a good dinner. I've been coming here since I was a little kid. I typically get the same thing every time. This time I decided to try something different and I wasn't disappointed. I ordered what's called the Sicilian kiss sandwich. Aka heaven on a plate. It's a meatball sub with grilled eggplant on top! I went with my boyfriend to Rome,NY this week for a business trip. Not being from the area it's always hard to find food similar to what you're used to eating. The concierge recommended Teddy's. Being s little apprehensive at first I immediately googled it and found out about their famous chicken riggi entree. The food was absolutely amazing. The service was excellent. the pure disgust I have...the incompetence in this place is beyond measure. I can't say enough how you should avoid this place! 3 times in a row they have ruined our night. The first time they pissed me off was a horrible Valentine's Day dinner in the restaurant. the second time we did take out and they forgot to put my fiancés eggplant in the pasta...had to be on the phone for half hour getting a refund and they would only refund her dinner not the whole bill even tho they ruined it. Now we order a chicken salad and Italian nachos. After 40 mins sitting at the bar wondering where the take out is the guy comes out and says they burned the nachos and have none left... that's three times in a row they've screwed up! now wouldn't you think they'd make it right with a gift card or a free meal for ruining the night? Teddy's is typically known as having the "best chicken riggies". Although, they did win the riggie fest numerous times; the contest was bias because everyone just went to try Teddy's riggies each year. Getting to the real review- Teddy's is a really good restaurant. They have a nice dining area (much bigger after the renovation) and a little bar. They also provide a take out service as you would expect. The atmosphere is casual and the service is usually spot on. I have tried at least half of the menu including the chicken/shrimp riggies several times. I don't think the sauce is as good as it used to be. Also, I have found that the chicken lacks taste and consistency. Perhaps they are cooking the chicken whole before cutting it in to pieces. (I presume). I always order their greens as an app and they are very tastey. Lastly, their chicken tender subs are very good! read more

I've traveled to Rome on a number of occassions, but on my first visit there I went to Teddy's and as Larry Z mentioned, they are widely known for their Chicken Riggies. When traveling to a new and/or small town, I always want to try what the Locals rave about and attempt not to deviate from the norms there. I tried their chicken riggies and this pasta dish was creamy with a little bite at the same time. The chicken in the pasta dish, like many other restaurants, take grilled chicken and toss them in the sauce base..which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The restaurant was packed on that summer night, and was a retreat for locals to get away from that thunderstorm during that evening. Onion ring and burger lovers you NEED TO GO HERE! Though I don't live in the area, I happened to be there last night for a family celebration and afterwards we all decided to hit up Teddy's for dinner before heading home. It's in one of the many strip malls in the area, so I suggest using your GPS to get there, but definitely get there. Our server was awesome. I think his name was Tom. Anyway, we started with some onion rings. Let me tell you, if you like onion rings, you HAVE to try these onion rings. They are the size of donuts, the onions inside them are huge, and the fried batter coating is delicious. They also come with a tasty honey mustard sauce. I had the Italian burger, which was cooked perfectly, great taste to the meat as well. They put peppers and onions on it, and it came on garlic bread. Delicious. I devoured it. First let me say that I'm from Chicago and grew with Italians and great Italian restaurants. That said we had a business dinner at Teddy's tonight. The place is nice enough and the booths were comfortable. The server was doing his best but clearly was schooled in the "it's just food, they're here to be feed". No real interest in our dining experience other than take the order, serve the food. Now onto the dinner. The wine list is limited, I mean two choice of Chianti or Cabernet limited. The dinner menu looked interesting, but I decide to go with the paste special with grilled chicken. Nothing special here unless you like way to much chesses "sauce" something like alfredo sauce, but not really and extra-large portions. Casual fare in Rome New York. Teddy's is a staple of Rome and has been for some time. Most famous for their riggies they have mostly casual fare with Italian mixed in. I recently went for lunch on a Tuesday as they feature their lunch buffet during the middle of the week. On it they had a salad bar, baked chicken, eggplant parm, riggies, mash potatoes, and cake. All of the items were done well except the cake which was obviously not homemade. But for $10 you easily get your moneys worth if not for the riggies alone. Highly recommend. read more

Stopped in after a hockey game. Excellent, friendly service. Our waiter, Ryan, was welcoming and helpful. We were happy to see Switchback ale, as you can't get it most places. We stuck with Yelp's recommendations but everything looked good. The onion rings were delicious and a half order was plenty for an appetizer. We enjoyed the chicken riggis, which are very rich -- as they should be. Portions are generous, food is fresh and there's something for everyone on the menu. I went to Teddy's for the second time today. The food was just okay, nothing special. I ordered a grilled pizza and my mom ordered a chicken panini. The pizza crust was a little too thick, but was still okay. The panini was lacking in flavor and could have been made by anyone in their own kitchen. The last time I was there I tried the Sunflower Chicken Pasta and it was pretty good. The service was good and everyone seemed friendly. The decor is a little strange and could use some help. The clam chowder was watery and cold, their special prime was full of fat and bland. The other two meals were sub par also, not sure what's going on but this place continues to go down hill. Teddy's has been my favorite restaurant for riggies since 2017. As soon as my fiancé and I walk in, we get seated & they'd have fresh out of the oven, home made bread. Greatly made mixed drinks. Nice salads with amazing peppercorn ranch. & of course, to die for riggies! After making the one hour trip out to Rome 3 times this month to eat teddys riggies, we were finally able to go and bring my sister and her boyfriend from NYC. Obviously I've been hyping up the restaurant. Imagine how embarrassed I am after this dinner. No drink menu was given to us, however my fiancé ordered a Sierra Mist with raspberry VODKA. The waiter brings him a glass of Sierra Mist & a glass of some nasty, possible raspberry tea. Not sure how those two orders sound alike. Got up from the table & told the bar tender what he actually ordered, and to please take the tea off the bill as I handed him the full glass. (Was on the bill at the end of the meal and waiter had no idea about the mistake, figured the bar tender would relay the message.) Italian nachos were pretty good, like normal. No bread was given to us, however they gave us a ROLL with butter. The same roll that was used for my sisters boyfriend steak sandwich, which was terrible. Could have gotten a better steak sandwich at the Arby's trash can down the road. I thought to myself, let these riggies be different and I will never come back here. Well.. Riggies were terrible.
