I'm going to give Teddy's full stars. When you're comparing oranges to orange and apples to apples, this place slays on all fronts. Customer service - great, fast, and friendly service. This place wrote the textbook on burning and turning tables. Even with a full house with a lineup out the door, never had to wait more than 15-20 mins (usually a group of 3-4.) Food - some may find it bland or lacking strong flavours, but its consistency, freshness, speed to the table, and value for your dollar is great. Environment - it's definitely not a hip or trendy spot, but it has a plastic plant kind of charm that is hard to be replicate. I give this place full recommendation to those who can understand what it is to go into a true Durham region classic. This place invokes feelings of childhood memories and is a freaking time capsule of what a proper mom and shop should be. I'm moving out of the area, but when i pop back into old neighborhoods, you can be sure Teddy's is on a short list of places i will visit. read more

I absolutely LOVE Teddy's. Super delicious home style food, huge portions and very affordable! The Roast Beef dinner or the Turkey dinner is my choice every time with Coconut Cream Pie!! Heard all the hype about this restaurant. I was very dissatisfied of the small portions and the stale waitresses. I guess it's one of the few places in Oshawa where you can sit down and get a family style meal. My girlfriend ordered the Apollo 11 hot dog, which was just a hot dog on a huge bun with tons of condiments... that will be my first and last time visiting. Teddy's is a really old school restaurant. Old fashion food. Old fashion decor. Old fashion staff. What I'm saying is teddy's is old. While the food is good its sometimes not cooked hot they cater to the older generation. If you go at lunch or dinner time expect to wait any day of the week. Staff is a mix of friendly and rude. The portion size is huge which is fine you can take home leftovers. Overall Teddy's need to update. Once the elders go, Teddy's will too. read more

Teddy's is an Oshawa institution for a reason! Huge, delicious portions of feel good food. Come with an appetite or prepare to bring home leftovers (especially since you'll want a big piece of coconut cream pie or strawberry pie for dessert). I've been going to Teddy's for 20 years and I still love it. They do not serve alcohol, so even though the lines are long they move people in and out of the restaurant fairly quickly. I called to speak to the manager Patty about how she intends to respond to negative customer reviews on Google and Facebook, and well, the internet. I asked her why she doesn't use social media to make things right for customers and show that they care. She told me that customer service wasn't their concern. That's right. Don't believe me? Ask to speak to the owner and she will tell you this. Call them: 905 579 5529. If she says the owner isn't in, ask for the owner's name and when you can call back - she'll either say she is the owner or say the owner isn't in. She will tell you that she can't tell you names or when the owner will be in. If you call to say you have a complaint, you will be told to email them but you won't be offered the email or you will be told that it doesn't exist. I told her I am a customer (which I was), and that I was planning on coming in for lunch today. She told me I'm not their customer. I asked her if this was the way she spoke to customers over the phone: she told me that it wasn't my concern. Why am I more concerned about their customer service than they are? I am not joking. You can call them right now. Enjoy your treatment here. Don't expect to have your complaint dealt with by the owner. Teddys is one of the most famous eateries in Oshawa. It is very popular and quite busy. The food here I find is good if not exceptional. The staff are generally friendly and helpful, but we have encountered some attitude on occasion. The menu offers a wide variety of food types and I hear the salad and house dressing are amazing. The service is fast and they have a very small take out area although it does look like they are expanding it at this time. read more

The food at teddy's was pretty good and had nothing to complain about. They have a wide selection of food and the restaurant is very organized. They did not take reservations for groups so our group was split up into different tables. One thing i was disappointed about was that my deli sandwich did not come with any sides, it dod not have fries, it did not even come with coleslaw all it had was a singular pickle. The food came out fresh and warm and really fast which was great. The clam chowder soup is also a great addition to this restaurant. This restaurant is good not the best deli i have ever been to but it is forsake up there and if i am around oshawa again i would love to stop bye and have another meal here. read more

I completely agree with the recent reviews that this is not the same Teddy's that it used to be. Once the ownership changed, the decline in quality was slow but noticeable, but we continued to order in the hopes that the changes would remain minimal. Now, almost everything on the menu tastes totally different, and not for the better. It is a shame to see a business with such a long standing reputation change the "bones" that made it great. The hot roast beef was nothing but fat and gristle, while the potatoes and gravy tasted like they came from a box......and to top it off the meal was missing the side of peas. Salads now look and taste like they come from a bag, and the famous house dressing tastes nothing like it used to. It is very sad to say, but tonight will be the last time that myself and some others order from here due to the significant quality issues. read more

A definite Oshawa icon! Been a regular here for a couple years now. All their food is great, reasonably priced, fast service, and the portions are huge! The ultimate comfort food joint! Never had a bad meal, and their soups are my favourite! Their coconut cream pie is worth the trip alone. The service is okay. I find that they rush you through your meal and push you out because it is so popular, and they aren't the most sociable folks, but the food keeps me coming back. read more

I gave this place a 4 star rating for their home-cooked food and service. For those haters, I think you have to consider what you are rating. If you go to a sushi restaurant, you don't order a hamburger... When you go to Teddy's, ask what they are known for and try that. A Durham Region staple for over 30 yrs. Great home cooked fare. Huge portions, great price. Old school servers and aged line cooks that rock the food and the floor. Soup of the days, sandwiches, platters all very well done. Coconut cream pies to for. Make a reservation or be prepared to wait along time to be seated. Cabbage and corned beef / brisket are their specialties. The calfs liver was a little over done. Teddy's was recommended to me because I was looking for an affordable diner with big servings. Well, I found one! I ordered the chicken with sauce and my husband ordered roast beef. The waitstaff were uber friendly. The price superb! However, I cannot say the same for the food. I was not impressed. The servings were big, but the taste was just not up to par. If I could give 0 stars, I would. I've gone here for a long, long time, ever since I was a kid (seriously, for as long as I can remember) and I swear it's slowly been going downhill. Their food is overrated and overpriced. Sure the portions might seem okay, but it's sub-par quality. The service is miserable and moody and very impatient it seems. I've had soggy sandwiches to bland looking/tasting vegetables lately and it's really disappointing because it USED to be good, and don't even get me started on the salads. They've gone from being generously sized and topped with a lot of bacon, croutons and parm to getting MAYBE 5 croutons, a sprinkle of parm and a dash of bacon. It's actually pathetic because it looks like you're just eating a plate of limp, wet lettuce that is making a horrible attempt to LOOK like a caesar salad. It always feels way too busy if you want to go in and sit down to eat (and even then its so chaotic that you can't actually enjoy your meal). My last experience with them though finally took them off my dinner list. Not only did they screw up the dinner order, but when I went to inform them of it via Facebook (because they were almost closed by the time we picked up our food) they basically laughed at me, called me a liar and proceeded to delete not one but two separate posts about it (the original and then just a small afterthought post saying how I wasn't impressed that they would just delete it like that). It just goes to show you how insanely unprofessional they are and how they just care about their public face and taking your money. Don't go here. There's PLENTY of other diners to go spend your money at. read more

I've enjoyed every meal I've eaten there. Just moved to the Shwa, and everybody kept asking me if I've been to Teddy's yet, and after a few meals there, it's easy to see why! I love their onion rings, though next time I'll probably share them. The Reuben sandwich is my personal favourite. I enjoy the ambience, especially the classic photos, and even though I'm not a fan of crowds, I'm willing to endure the masses of humanity and the wait times (allow 15-30 minutes for standing in line) to dine there. read more

The place is always packed because the food is AMAZING from the best garden salad dressing, to deli sandwiches, or hot dinners and finally humongous portions of amazing desserts. In Oshawa at noon on a Monday between appointments, decided Teddy's would be great for lunch. Surprisingly, although most tables were full, there was no lineup whatever, so were seated immediately. We've been to Teddy's a number of times and generally liked it very much, and pretty well knew what we wanted. I ordered Pastrami on rye with fries and gravy, and a side of dills. Hubby ordered a hot hamburger sandwich with fries and gravy, and peas (one slice of bread only, please). Pastrami on rye - very good, lots of tender and tasty pastrami. Side of dills (90 cents) was one fairly smallish dill cut in four pieces (I think that in the past there was more, but maybe my memory is off). Fries were not hot, nor was the gravy, but I let it go. Hubby's hot hamburger sandwich was served with green beans, not the peas requested; this was corrected as soon as mentioned. Everything on the plate, however, was just barely warm (peas not really cooked). Entire plate was removed and replaced, with no better result. He didn't eat it, had it packed up for home where it could actually be served hot. Strawberry pie for dessert was delicious, and not added to the bill due to the semi-cold food issue. Service was fast and friendly, but Hubby won't likely be in a hurry to return. read more
