Teddie's is the "Cheers" of the North Shore! Everyone is so friendly, fun, accommodating, service oriented and talented, that you just feel so pampered and special each time you visit. From Camille at the front desk, a quick hello from Teddie or Alan, smiles and acknowledgments from passing staff, you quickly know that you are among individuals that are very happy in their work environment. I love that the majority of the stylists and colorists have been with Teddie 20 to 30 years! He's doing something right as an employer, and the stylists and colorists are definitely doing something right to keep their clients coming back. Continuing education is a priority with Teddie, so you know everyone is staying up on the latest and greatest. I've been a Teddie's customer for about 18 years and would not think think of going elsewhere. The team that works their magic on me include Essee (color), Marvin (shampoo), Augustin, (hair), and Marie Werner (brows). They are wonderful, talented, and so professional!! Other great colorists are Linda, Tom and John. Dale is another shampoo expert in addition to Marvin's "magic fingers" and superb cleanup after getting color. Some other stylists that stand out are Cary, Jason, Peter and Carol. Everyone at Teddie's truly believe that the client should always feel comfortable trying different talent - so if you want to change to someone else in the shop, fine with them. I've been a Teddie's customer for years. Their strong suit is definitely with their experienced colorists, namely Maria and Essie. They listen to you and are detail oriented, so personable and fantastic at what they do. Their shampoo women are thorough (in the color room) and I appreciate the extra time that they take with my thick hair. Essie often includes a clear gloss along with the single-process color, and that really seals in the color and leaves your hair shiny. I do agree that some of their front desk staff needs an attitude adjustment, but NOT Camille. She's professional and welcoming. As far as cuts go, I like Augustine and Suree. Both really are artists. I really don't care about how updated the salon may or may not be, it's the quality of the services that matter to me. I've been going to Teddie's for years. I have had good stylists, bad stylists and a few in-between. It has always been convenient for me and, if you don't like your stylist there are plenty more to chose from. Sadly, some do not stick around. So, a few of my opinoins... My current hair stylist: Anna, she's wonderful. I don't know what I'll do if she leaves. She genuinely cares about her clients. She has given me several different hairsyles over the years and I've always loved them. If you bring a picture, she is really good at matching it (she'll also tell you if she thinks a small tweak or something different would look better with your face shape). She is a perfectionist and pays VERY close attention while cutting and styling. Front Desk Staff: They work fast and they are busy. Their focus is unfortunately not always on customer service, but customer efficiency. Past colorist: Lindsey. I went to her for full highlights and she did a great job. I have a lot of hair and it a while, but she is meticulous. She also loves what she does and it shows. I stopped coloring after about 6 months. I am not the type of girl who enjoys spending time at salons. I stopped because it was too time intensive (and a bit expensive), not because it didn't look good! Teddie: I've only seen him a few times, working on clients. He seems very full of himself. Not a fan, but he does own a successful salon so... I want to get mine and my bridesmaids hair done here for my upcoming wedding and the ad says, "schedule with us and you get a free 1:1 with Teddie himself!" That's the only part that I kind of want to pass on. Overall Service: They are efficient. I am able to get in, get shampooed, get a cut and style and get out in about an hour or less. The prices are pretty good. Not cheap, but who wants to have cheap-looking hair? read more

This was my first experience at TK. The front desk girls were very nice and walked me to my first appointment - a massage with Paula. All the women in the spa were amazing (and the woman who runs the spa came to find me later to see my cut and color). Paula was very sweet and gave me a great massage. Next I went to Inga for my color. She talked me through what I wanted and did a great job with my highlights. She did suggest a trim and got me in to see someone right after my color. Finally I saw Mojgan for a cut. She gave me a great cut and blowout. She gave me some great information about some products. The reason for the four stars was the girl who washed my hair. She put a lot of oil in it and I had to get it washed a second time. Overall, the salon was clean and everyone was VERY friendly. They also had coffee and water which is a plus for me. read more

Everyone goes out of their way to make the entire experience at Teddie Kossof stress free and seamless, from the scheduling process to the payment process. Prices are reasonable particularly relative to downtown Chicago prices. Three years ago I made the mistake of going to a salon in my neighborhood. Big mistake. My color and cut were not right. And I received the worst pedicure of my life. I quickly came back to Teddie's. This is about Alan Kossof and his professional compassionate customer service. He has a salon at a nearby retirement home. The home fell into arrears regarding billing for many months My Mom was a client and when the lax billing was revealed Alan worked with me to try and recover the unbilled service. Knowing that she was on Medicaid and of almost no means....he continued her bi weekly service regardless and we agreed on a payment plan. I cannot say enough about how he understands the dignity of his clients and willingness to go far beyond expectation to serve their needs in difficult times. First, on to the great stuff - got a fantastic cut & style from Bianca and a great color from Maria. Love it!!! But the entire experience was spoiled by the mani-pedi. My appointment was at noon but i called them at 11:30 to let them know that due to a last min issue, I was going to be 15 mins late - so I asked if it was ok. The lady on the phone said it was fine and that they would still manage. But once I arrived, not only was the lady at the reception rude, the nail technician was very grumpy and asked me the if I had gotten lost and if not, why I was late. She then proceeded to tell me how i should have informed the person who delayed me that "I have an appointment and I cannot talk to you right now". By far one of the most unprofessional behaviors I have seen/experienced. Needless to say, I will not be going back...which is a shame since I did like the haircut/color, but given all the wonderful options in the north shore area I don't see why I need to subject myself to this kind of behavior. read more

My comments are not in regard to the salon service (which was fine) that I received, but more in response to misleading "coupons" to bring you back to Teddie Kossof's. "Enjoy a no-chip manicure and $10 off a retail purchase" was not the true offer, only to be discovered after getting my manicure and getting the bill. This was my first time at Teddie Kossof Salon and I had a great experience! I had Megan as my colorist and she was very kind. She did a really beautiful balayage after referencing a picture I brought in. I got my hair cut with Kristen after the balayage and it turned it so nice. She made sure to make it compliment my face and trimmed it a bit once it dried and curled up again so it wasn't so poofy. Since I got my hair cut after the dye job, a bit of the balayage got chopped off higher than expected so a lot of the lighter gradient was lost in the back of my head. I didn't notice until I got home, but Megan was happy to touch it up for me for free the next day and it turned out beautiful. I have been going to Teddie Kossoff forr quite. The last couple of times with Jason not so great I wanted him to style my hair after he cut it and he said you do a better job why would I go to a hairdresser when I'm supposed to do a better job than he does very upsetting I no longer go to Teddie Kossof. Jason did not want to talk about it and I was very frustrated. John is great but I don't have the time to go to him to color my hair and then go to another salon to get my haircut and style so unfortunately I am no longer seeing John but he's wonderful read more

After over 20 years of being a client of the Teddie Kossof Salon, one of their Master Stylists ignored my only instructions -- shoulder length cut, large wave perm -- and cut my hair so short (almost up to my jawline) and gave me a tight (think poodle) perm. I am horrified -- I work outside of the home and am so embarrassed about my hair! When I called to complain and request a refund, I was made to feel like I was unreasonable. I was told that the perm would relax in a few weeks; I was offered a $100 gift certificate (the services cost over $200); I was told I would have to meet with Teddie the following weekend, but he cancelled at the last minute and a manager called me instead; I was questioned about the length of time I'd been a patron. ??? For a premier salon on the North Shore, this was handled so poorly. Finally, 10 days later, I received a refund. However, I will take my next 20 years of patronage elsewhere, perhaps Mario Tricoci? read more

On behalf of my mother - Very upsetting! I called and made an appointment with a "trimmer". A trimmer is a less experienced stylist. I wanted to save money so I asked if the trimmers are experienced enough to give a real haircut, and they said yes. The bad experience is partially my fault: I tried to save money and I got what I paid for: a terrible cut from a not very experienced person. My hair is difficult, I guess. Thick, curly hair and I like a short haircut which has never been a problem before. The trimmer did not know how to cut short styles. I left the salon very unhappy and decided to call the salon and express myself. Big mistake! The salon manager was very rude and when I started explaining that I do not think that trimmers are really qualified to do real haircuts, I was very rudely interrupted and she started yelling at me that she would not let me say that trimmers are not experienced, because they are...???. She said that she saw me leaving the salon upset and I was even upset when I called the day before to schedule an appointment, etc. Why would I be upset when I called to schedule an appointment? This is not what the manager of a big salon should say. It is not the way clients are suppose to be treated. Even though she wanted to protect the trimmer, she should not talk to the client that way. That is not called customer service. Not smart customer service. My day is ruined. I know that my hair will grow back and I will have a chance to go somewhere else to fix it. The conversation with the manager is much worse. Never, never, never will I go near this place again. read more

I have been here three times and it was three times too many. First of all, the place looks like it hasn't had any renovations / updates since 1987. It is really gross and actually kinda cheesy inside. My first time there, the receptionist was so RUDE. Since I hadn't been there before, I asked where I was supposed to go for my facial. She gave me this look and laughed a little "What, haven't you been here before??" My second experience was even worse...Went to get my nails done and the manicurist was actually receiving a manicure when I arrived. I sat there for about 20 minutes waiting. Finally, when I got my nails done, she was so preoccupied with not ruining HER nails that mine looked terrible. It was truly the worst manicure I've ever had. My blind grandmother could have done better. On top of all this, all the manicurists were busy chatting away with each other...Checking their too-tight clothes in the mirror, fixing their makeup, and even answering their cell phones DURING appointments. I haven't been there in a long time. They sent me a coupon to come back. I'm so glad I did. I had such a great experience. First I had a pedicure with Lana. She was excellent and so nice. Then I had a haircut with Liviana. I have been told by so many hairdressers I need to cut more hair off cause of my dry ends. She told me NO. All of my hair was dry and I should do a treatment Milbon that would repair my hair from within so Anna did that for me. My hair looks and feels amazing. This treatment lasts about 5 weeks. Both hairstylists were so sweet and knowledgeable!!! Also I had my hair washed and rinsed a few times with the treatment and I had Marvin as my shampoo man. He was the best ever !!! The lady that checked me in was great too. So from start to finish I was treated wonderfully. I had excellent customer service from beginning to end. Had my hair cut here a few weeks ago. I was excited to get out of the house and to update my look, as I have a 2 year old and newborn. I was very disappointed in the way the salon runs and the way I was treated. The salon only scheduled 1/2 hour for my haircut (which included a shampoo and blow dry) which wasn't enough time. I asked my stylist if they always schedule such a short amount of time for cuts and she told me I could come back to have my hair fixed/finished at no cost. That was nice, however, if I'm paying $50 for a haircut (and have to get a babysitter for my children, which isn't easy) I don't want to be told that I could come back to have my haircut finished. I will save the money and hassle next time and try a different salon. read more
