Unfortunately Techys has become a victim of their own success. While Carlos's work is high quality, he hasn't grown his business with the demand and as such his timelines are terrible and unworkable. Currently, it takes them 5 weeks minimum to complete alterations to a suit! And for anyone who works during the day and cannot make a 10:00am fitting *appointment*, that generally extends to a 6+ week process, just to have an article of clothing altered. I have been taking my clothes (suits, dress shirts, pants) to Carlos for years because he does great work, but his inability to keep up with demand is pushing legacy clients away. I know of 4 people who are looking for other options now. If you have the flexibility and patience to wait 2 months for tailoring, enjoy his work! read more

They are WONDERFUL!!! When I started hunting for a dress, I was within 6 months so most places didn't have dresses in my size, since I'm a bit larger and they couldn't get my size in on time. I ended up buying a floor dress in about 6 sizes too big. I went in to Techy's with my rather large dress and got a quote and was pleasantly surprised by they're price. I needed the dress taken in, shortened and fitted to my particular shape since it was a flamingo style dress. They did a superb job!! They did a few extras that weren't part of my quote with no added fees; some hooks so that my corset wouldn't ride up and attached a belt I made. I loved the fittings so much that I brought my new future brothers in to get their suits fitted/altered and he was able to turn them around within a month and they too turned out wonderfully. I can't say enough good things about this hidden gem! Carlos and Elizabeth are awesome--communicative, helpful, not at all pushy. And Carlos is very talented! He took in my wedding dress (for clarity, I'm not talking about a big ball gown; this was a slim fitting [though in a size too large] dress with lace work), and it was absolutely perfect when I picked it up. I brought my wedding dress to Carlos to be shortened. He came highly recommended. Job well done, but when I went to pay for the service, they charged me $360 as part of "the package." The receptionist, Elizabeth, acted like it was an obvious charge but... we had never even discussed a package plan! The dress originally cost me $300. These people are crooks. I'm still sick to my stomach at the amount of money I paid them. I cried in my car in their parking lot. Never going again ever. read more

I like how we agreed upon a fixed price during my first fitting and then I could come back as many times as needed to get exactly what I wanted. In addition to great tailoring, Carlos also helped me decide on what kind of jewelry to wear with the dress as well as what kind of bustle to get for the train of my dress. I highly encourage other brides to bring belts, shoes, jewelry, and headwear to try on during the tailoring session. Carlos and Elizabeth were amazing! I got my wedding gown altered here. Of the tailors I visited for quotes, Techy's was by far the most affordable. Carlos is beyond talented. I can't put into words how beautiful he helped my dress become with the right alterations here and there. He was patient, listened to what I wanted, and gave me his opinion. I wanted an extensive bustle and he made it happen. He also fixed my bridal belt that was way too big. My wedding isn't for a couple weeks but I know I will look amazing in the gown. I just returned from picking up my wedding dress from Techys and I couldn't be more impressed with the work, service, and professionalism demonstrated by Carlos and Elizabeth. I found them on yelp and was able to easily schedule an appointment, get fitted, and pick up the dress within three weeks. The dress was a sample dress that I brought in for a bustle for the train, but Carlos went above and beyond by also reinforcing the zipper and fixing the clasp for me as well. He showed me all the different options for bustles and made me feel extremely confident with the final decision. The cost was very reasonable (especially for bridal work!), and I'm thrilled because I finally have a tailor I can trust for any type of clothes. Carlos tailored my wedding dress and I had a great experience. I brought my dress in super early (like 6 months in advance) and ended coming in about 5 times for alterations, all for one flat price that I was told up front. Carlos was very patient with my requests to tweak minor details. The dress ended up fitting perfectly! This place is great. A bit tough to find--it's in the second floor of the locksmith place, and you enter on the south side of the building. I can't say enough great things about Techy's Tailoring. When looking for a tailor for my wedding dress I went to three places in the area to get an idea of what needed to be done and the cost. Techy's was the third tailor I went to and I'm incredibly happy that I selected Carlos to do the alterations for my wedding dress. He is professional, patient, kind, and very willing to explain your options to you. If only every wedding vendor I encountered was like this! My wedding dress came in a little too small. It was made of crepe and was a really unforgiving fabric. Carlos was familiar with how to work with it and willing to try out different options and let me see what they looked like before I made a final decision. He had very innovative ideas for how to address some of my issues with the dress. Lastly, Carlos and Elizabeth make the logistics easy. You can schedule your appointments via email and they had evening hours a couple nights a week, which made it so I could get to them from where I work/live in DC. Enjoy Carlos while he is around. He will be making it big soon. Absolutely an awesome individual with not only great talent, but great service to his customers. I took two shirts and a pair of Levis and I know he had to do some significant work on one of my shirts. In the end, I still paid less for all three than I normally do for one shirt. I will caution it does take a little longer for him to get your clothes back, but he can't be faulted for being great at his job and thus busy. I'm writing this review after my first time visiting Techys Tailoring. Carlos and Elizabeth were both fabulous! I brought in a pair of jeans that I needed to have tailored for later that same night. I also decided to bring another pair of jeans with me that needed to be shortened as well. Carlos is the man!!! Iv never been to a better and more personal tailor. He will sit down with you and explain everything he is doing. If you don't like it he will spend the time finding it exactly what you want. It does take about 2-3 weeks to clothes back but they are always perfect and he will fix anything that you arnt happy with. read more

I brought one suit jacket to have sleeves shortened, 2 pants to have hemmed, and 2 other pants needing repair (hole/tear near side pocket and waist lining detached). Everything came out great. I really appreciate Carlos taking the time to discuss styles and show a couple options with the jacket and pants. Other tailors I have visited are accommodating when I ask to have more/less break when they initially pin the hemline. Carlos is a little different because he upfront offers to show a couple of different breaks - pinning one pant leg with one break and the other with another. It seems minor but it shows that Carlos wants you to see your options before making a decision. read more

I have been coming to Carlos for literally ten years, and in that time I have referred dozens of friends and even strangers at the shop where I work to come to him for tailoring. Well I wish that I hadn't! They are so busy that when I stopped by like I always have, I wasn't even allowed to talk to him. My item was an extremely simple mend that I could have left on a post it. Instead they told me I would need to come back in two hours and that the earliest pick up would be the end of October. When I googled the location to check if it had moved, not only did it not say that the business had changed to be by appointment only, but it has its old regular store hours and said "open now." I'm frustrated because I live in DC and had rented a car specifically to take this to him, because he was always kind and affordable and incredibly good. Carlos once remade the entire back of a dress for me, and has worked with me on countless other projects. Unfortunately I won't be back again -- I understand that it was busy, but for an old customer who did not know about the unlisted changes to the business (especially when the next client is late!) I would have hoped for better customer service. This is in no way a bad review of Carlos' tailoring, if anything my guess is that his continued popularity and growth is testament to the fact that he is still the best, but to the business itself and their disregard for a long time customer who has been very supportive. I wish that the choice to continue to come here to support him, despite the hassle and the closer competitors, hadn't been a mistake today. Hope others don't make the same. read more

I was in search of a local tailor/alterations shop to alter my wedding dress. I got down to Techys and one other vendor based on Yelp reviews. I went with Techys and it was definitely a great decision! I think I would have died if my wedding dress got messed up so this was very important to me. I made an appointment by phone and was seen by Carlos promptly on the day of the appointment. He was very personable and has the right attitude about customer service! He did the pinning for my adjustments and confirmed that I was ok with things as they were. I came up with an idea on the spot that changed the direction of the alterations...we talked about it, Carlos gave his professional opinions/suggestions and we went with it! I like that he'll tell you his thoughts, give you the pros and cons, but will do what you as the customer wants. The change to the dress looked great, it fit perfectly and it was ready on-time...and the price was right! I was shocked when he initially told me what the price would be! I was expecting at least twice as much! Elizabeth is also fun to talk to! I will definitely be back amd send others when I can! read more
