So where do you find an automotive shop that doesn't charge a 'diagnostic fee' to check out a problem(s) you are having with your vehicle? Tech One Automotive didn't charge me a diagnostic fee. I explained my vehicle's symptoms and left my vehicle so they would test drive, research the problem(s) and let me know. They did NOT find anything wrong and better yet - they DIDN'T charge me a penny. Two other shops I called said they would charge a $69 diagnostic fee. Oh, and if they found something wrong, they would apply the $69 but if they didn't, I would be out $69. Tech One is a family run business and are 'honest' mechanics in the crazy automotive industry. I've been visiting Tech One since I bought my car in Austin. My Dad referred me to them (all Dad's know best, right?), and even though they are a serious pain to get to (I live South Central, they are located North) I won't take my car anywhere else! Family owned, same guys every time I visit. No-nonsense, don't nickel and dime me for superfluous services. Recently I brought my Civic in because the check engine light had come on. They drove me to work after I dropped off my car and picked me up later when it was finished. They couldn't find anything wrong with my car, thought maybe it was just a "hiccup," but said to just bring it back if anything else went wrong. NO CHARGE! At any other place I would of paid at least $50 for time spent and definitely wouldn't of had a ride to and from work! These guys are just friendly, classy, professional gentlemen. They take pride in a job well done (they've definitely found and fixed several problems with my car) and have a good sense of judgement on what's worth doing and what's not. If you want to be treated like a person, with respect, I can't recommend anyone better. read more

One of the tire sensors was not working on my wife's Toyota. I expected it to be replaced but the shop found that it just needed to be reset and resynched. They didn't charge me anything. I also had an oil change and general system check to prepare for an upcoming roadtrip. Total bill: $39.95, which was just for the oil change that included synthetic oil. I usually pay close to $70 at Jiffy Lube so I'll be doing oil changes at Tech One from now on. The car was done quickly and everyone was very friendly. read more

I like the guys here at Tech One. My wife and I have been bringing our cars here for the past 3-4 years, and I find the staff to be very friendly, honest, and helpful. My wife feels the same, and she never feels intimidated about "car stuff" whenever she brings her car in. Like any responsible mechanic, they will tell you if they do find anything wrong, but they will never push you into doing anything you didn't come in for to be begin with. Best part, they will often times provide an estimate in case you would like to plan and save up money for the repair. I've been to dozens of auto repair shops, and I like they're approach with customers best in regards to explaining additional repairs needed. I love that you can schedule an appointment ahead of time. While you wait, they offer free coffee and sodas, and the waiting room also has free wifi. Great staff here at Tech One. Everyone at the shop is always friendly, honest, and really helps you the best they can. I know I can depend on them to get the job done right the first time, without trying to sell me on a bunch of things I don't need. I'm lucky these guys are so close to where I work, because it's the only place I go anymore. I was long overdue for an oil change and couldn't seem to get to the area early enough to keep me from being late for work. I finally had -just enough time- so I called ahead and asked the guys if they could get me in and out in 30 min. After pulling in, they got me out in about 20 minutes. Mr. Wisian said he could tell I was in a hurry, and wanted to get me out quick. I love these guys! I didn't want to be a jerk and tell them I was in a hurry (you can't rush perfection), and they took care of me without me having to ask. So I just recently moved to Austin and I was in need of a trustworthy auto shop to take my car. I saw that this place had a reputable set of reviews here on Yelp so I decided to give it a shot. I called to make an appointment on a Monday, took my car in Thursday, and picked up the finished product on Friday. Not a bad turn around in my book, repairs took just over one business day. I ended up getting a neutral safety switch installed and got my brakes replaced/adjusted. Trent and David were very nice speaking to them on the phone and they had all of my questions answered. Price for the repair was in the ballpark of what I was expecting so no complaints there. I think I'll start taking my car in here for future oil changes/checkups in the future. I'm tired of dealing with the people a Jiffy Lube and the guys here seem to do good work. Overall a good/honest repair shop. I will be back. read more

In general I like Tech One. The staff is pretty knowledgeable and courteous. Their prices seem to be reasonable- not the cheapest by far, but much fairer than dealerships. The waiting area is pretty standard, though the seating is better than Jiffy Lube's. I love the tool chest coffee bar. What everyone is saying about these guys is true. They are very honest mechanics, which is hard to find these days. i had them do my brakes about 6 months ago, and i kept getting a squeaking sound from them, Danny and the guys took my car in and replaced the pads until they no longer made a sound. I appreciate their dedication to their customers and keeping them happy. I just had an issue with a motor mount that Honda told me i would need to fix, wouldn't be covered under my warranty. I had the guys at Tech One check it out to give me a second opinion and they confirmed the mount was bad. But in addition to confirming that for me, they gave me a service bulletin from Honda stating that this is a common issue, and that Honda should take care of it. A few phone calls later and Honda now says that they will fix this for me free of charge. I owe this all to the guys at Tech One for not taking advantage of a customer and giving me the info I need to get this taken care of without having to pay a dime! They said a hour and it took a hour treated me with respect and great costumer service this is my new go to place for my cars! Will recommend them to anyone who asks if I know a place! I took my car to Tech One for an oil change and a quote on fixing an engine noise. The oil change went quickly, and they told me the noise was caused by the gasket of the exhaust manifold. The quote to replace it was $595. That seemed a bit much to me. Online research, and a talk with my brother's trusted mechanic, convinced me that replacing the exhaust manifold gasket should cost about half that amount. When I took it to said mechanic, it turned out Tech One's diagnosis was wrong--the problem was a hole in a pipe from the manifold. He fixed it and sent me on my way for $248.35. The day after my oil change, I suddenly had an oily leak onto my formerly-pristine driveway. When the leak continued for 4 or 5 days, I took it back to Tech One. They spent some time with it, then told me even though they could find no explanation, it was certainly no fault of theirs. The guy I spoke to conceded that the timing was suspicious, then just shrugged and suggested I "monitor" the leak and bring it back again if it continued. The leak stopped the day after they looked at it and "found nothing wrong." It MAY be a coincidence that the leak started the day of my oil change, and ended the day they looked at it and said it wasn't their fault. I truly don't know. What I do know is that they made an incorrect diagnosis of the engine noise--and proposed to charge me nearly twice the going rate for that repair. They do have a very pleasant waiting area, as other reviewers have noted. I especially liked the fresh coffee from the Keurig. In fact, I may buy myself one (or three) with the $350 I saved having my repair done elsewhere. read more

I've taken my car to Tech One a couple times now. Once for a check engine light (which turned out to be O2 sensors which were most likely broken after Eagle Tramission replaced my clutch/flywheel) and again for a full AC replacement. The quality of service at this place is exceptional. Not only do they fix your car right the first time, but they communicate. Dave was prompt in contacting me and set realistic expectations for when they could get my car in for service and repaired. He called with updates and estimates VERY promptly. One time, there was a delay, but he called as soon as he had the info and even helped me get a rental set up with no work on my end. Tech one gets that communication is the cornerstone of running an awesome business. Both Dave and Evan are professional, kind, and have more patience than most. They took care of my car and of me. Thanks guys! Reasonable labor/parts pricing, guaranteed work, and most importantly - they get it right the first time. Highly recommended for general repair, however, they don't do body work and aren't open on Saturdays. They are VERY close to a bus stop and Enterprise Rent-a-Car. Enterprise can pick you up within 5-10 mins and is a 5 min drive away. Check their website for a list of services. Additional shining: I recommended a friend of mine to Tech One earlier this year. He's visited 3 other repair shops in the past few years which charged him and arm and a leg and didn't get all the issues REALLY fixed. . He took his SUV in once and liked it so much he went back again. :) In addition to the services he needed, Tech One was able to fix some lingering issues (leaks/squeaks) that the other places just couldn't get. read more

A fantastic mechanic. Tech One has been the only place I take my car for over a year. When the 02 Buick that drove me from Michigan to Texas started to die after hitting over 150,000 miles, I took it in to Tech One. I knew what was wrong with the car, but I just wanted a quote and any suggestions to get my car running again without breaking the bank. The guys at Tech One were not just friendly but honest and up front about everything that the car needed and they told me that they could easily fix my car, but the cost would out-weigh the value of the car and given its history, it was more than likely, not worth fixing. It's because of that honesty that I take the new car I purchased after my Buick died ONLY to Tech One. Any mechanic can temporarily fix a junker just to make an easy dollar, But it's the truly great mechanics that don't want to see people hurting financially just to fix a car that will cause more problems down the road. Tech One is a business where integrity and quality come before making a quick buck. On top of all this, the location is beautiful inside, very clean, with comfortable couches and a T.V to watch to pass the time. I've never waited longer than 30 minutes for an oil change or inspection, just be aware that I always call ahead to schedule an appointment Only drawback is the lack of parking, but considering this place is always busy with happy customers, I have a good idea why their parking is always so full. This place is great. Locally owned and operated. My car blew a vacuum hose and i called around to about 10 places to get estimates (a few of which wouldn't give one by phone and insisted i had to drive my overheating car to them to get it). These guys said it should be about $150. I drove my car there, they drove me home and came and picked me up the next day. One of my other hoses was going to go and they replaced it at no charge. Great small auto repair shop! I just moved to Austin and went here for the Texas state inspection and an oil change. Each cost me about $30, which is quite reasonable. Everything went smoothly. It took about 40 minutes and their waiting room is very comfortable. I was able to sit there and work easily. They even offered to put my new plates on if I came back after registering my car! Granted that seems a little silly because I'm not completely mechanically inept, but it was extremely considerate nonetheless. They are affordable, fast and very friendly. read more

Took a little longer than I anticipated but overall great job and great customer service

For years I took my car to an (ahem) very common national lube place and was never really impressed by the staff, who were never the same people as last time I came by. They seemed like nice enough folks but they always tried to upsell me and find other things to fix, even if they didn't really need to be fixed. I thought I was saving a little money until, one day, when I stepped on the gas, my engine made a very loud, very bad sound. On a friend's recommendation, I brought my car to Tech One to take a look. The guys gave me the straight story - my engine had been burning oil, probably for a year or longer, and the oil change guys that I had been using never noticed that it was running on almost nothing. Even though the checklist that they gave me after every oil change said everything was a-ok. When my new engine, installed by Tech One, was ready for its first oil change, I figured I'd bring it in. They changed the oil, gave me a ride to work and called when it was ready. I braced myself for the invoice and was very pleasantly surprised (and disappointed in myself) when I saw that an oil change here was not only more thorough than the other guys but it was cheaper! And no annoying upselling! They tell it like it is and treat you right. Now, this is the only place that I'll bring my car. For anything. read more

Very impressed with Tech One's integrity. Maybe it's just that I've been burned by the Honda maintenance people so many times, but this was refreshing. I'm used to being up sold, over charged, and pressured into signing things before I have time to look into it. Tech One is different. I didn't actually get any service done, because they looked at my car and realized it was beyond what they do there (it was a problem with the muffler, and it required welding, which they don't do). So the referred me to a muffler shop which also has really good Yelp reviews. Tech One could have tried to find something else wrong with my car or charge me for a diagnostic, but they didn't. I'm impressed with their honesty and I'll likely be back when my car has a problem that they can fix. read more

Honest mechanics that go out of their way to provide superior service. When work was going to take longer on my car than intended they offered to drive me to work and pick me up. For any medium or large sized job these are about the only guys I trust. They won't charge me for anything unnecessary and I have had zero issues after 3 repairs. So why 4 stars instead of 5? Their prices are usually more expensive than competitors when I have called for various part installations. It's not a ridiculous amount more but it's noticeable. Nonetheless, an extra $50 is worth it to me to get everything right when you're spending already $300. read more

These guys are the best. To say that I'm not car savvy would be a gross understatement. Replacing headlights and steering fluid are the extent of my expertise. I always know that when I take my car here, the mechanics are going to do a great job, and they're not ripping me off. They've made several repairs for me, and I always get my oil changes done here now. Once, I took my car in with a problem that I didn't realize was covered by my warranty. They told me I could take it to the dealership and have it fixed for free. Another time, I got a cheapo oil change from Midas, who told me that I had an expensive engine problem that they'd be happy to fix for me. On suspicion, I took my car into Tech One to check it out, and no such problem existed. Honesty is an admirable quality in anyone, which is why I'm going to be brutally honest and tell you what an idiot I was today when Tech One bailed me out yet again. My check engine light was coming on, and I needed to have my car inspected by the end of the month (Monday). I took my car in today, Friday, and they told me they'd see if they could get it done by the end of the day. A couple of hours later they called me to tell me that the light was coming on because my gas cap was loose. No charges, just come on by and pick the car up! Am I an idiot? Completely. I've been taken advantage of by both Jiffy Lube (nicked fan belt) and Midas during oil changes, but it's heroes like these who save the day for us car-challenged folks. read more

When it came time to pay the $40 I had been quoted ahead of time, Dave (the owner) said that the job had been so easy that he wouldn't charge me anything at all. When friends came to visit after a 24 hour road trip and needed a repair done on their vehicle, Tech One fixed it the same day. I took my Toyota Camry here and was very impressed with the service. I easily scheduled an appointment via the service email on their site. When I got there they were on time and expecting me. They quickly confirmed my problem - that my horn was very weak - and replaced my horn with a new one in about an hour. I even managed to misplace my wallet, and they were helpful in arranging payment and finding it for me. Total full service for incompetent people like me ;) The thing I liked about my service there was I felt that I could trust them. They were direct, clear about pricing and meant what they said. I came by Tech One after reading all of the great Yelp reviews. I needed a State inspection and to have my tires checked after my low pressure light came on. They were friendly and really fast. I was in and out in less than a half hour. They completed the state inspection and aired up the tire that was low as well as checked to make sure there were no nails in the tire. That fixed the low pressure light. The waiting area is really cute, old time car shop feel with comfortable couches, a Keurig coffee maker and tv. I'd definitely come back next time I need something checked out! read more

When I came to Tech One though, they asked me where I was from, talked me through the differences, and made me a bulleted lost to get my car inspected. Once they did the inspection, they showed me exactly what they did, and itemized things they COULD do to help out my car, but that they wouldn't do without my consent. I took my son's Toyota Corolla in for service for a noise that was coming from under the hood. We just bought the car from CarMax less than 30 days ago, but they couldn't get us in for an appointment until mid-August. I read such great reviews on Yelp about how quick, friendly and honest they were with customers. So we took the car in this morning because my son needs his car for work. David called me back this afternoon and said the issue was something had come a loose under the something...it was all greek to me. :) He told me that it would cost about ~$100 bucks to fix. I told him that I would just wait and take it to CarMax since it was still under warranty and he told me that he didn't want me to have to go through the trouble and wait for them to fix and he would tighten up whatever was loose at no charge.
