This place came as a recommendation from a friend, so I thought I'd try them out. They're quick, as mechanics go, and they do what they say. My second time there, just getting my oil changed, they said, "Your rear brakes will probably need work soon." Zero pressure, zero "Do this now and do it here or your car will implode" as many other places do. They explain everything they do to your car and they're friendly about it. They even follow up with a text the subsequent day to make sure everything was okay. I highly recommend Tech One for people who own cars...b/c if you don't have a car, it'd be really weird for you to going there for their services. read more

I will admit this post is a few months late from the time of service, but I still feel compelled to write a review :) I called Tech One 30 minutes prior to their closing time, panicked as my car had difficulties in starting up when I left work. They were very polite over the phone and told me to swing on by. When I arrived (literally at the time of closing), they said they would keep the car overnight and take a look at it in the morning, which was perfect for my schedule. They called me promptly the next day to let me know they were unable to find anything wrong with the car. They said if I was hesitant, that they had no problem checking the car throughout the day to ensure nothing was wrong. I stopped by after work, close to their closing time, with the great news that the car likely had difficulty starting up because of the cold - and better news - they didn't charge me a thing! To this day nothing is wrong with my car, so granted, I likely overreacted - but the service was GREAT, the staff was friendly, if anything were ever to occur to my vehicle, I wouldn't hesitate to bring it to Tech One! read more

My Honda Civic's A/C would delay in turning on initially and it finally got up to a 10-15 minute delay before working. I did some research and decided it was either a $6 relay, or my A/C was leaking coolant and had low pressure issues. I called several shops and they wanted to do a full flush of the A/C system, instead of simply checking the pressure, and charge me upwards of $250. I called Tech One and they said they'd check out the system before doing anything that would cost me. I took it in and they called me back quickly to tell me it was the relay after all. They went ahead and checked the rest of my A/C system and said it was fine. My bill was reasonable, certainly not $250, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for an honest mechanic. 10/10 would buy again. read more

Thank you guys so much for saving our wedding! Hours before our wedding festivities started my car would not start and we are not from Austin. In a panic we called Tech One. They were extremely nice and quick to come to our rescue! They towed the car for us and took care of all the details while we took care of our wedding details. They had my car in and out in 45 minutes, and I was able to spend the time working on my laptop in the quiet waiting room. The guys were polite and gave me some advice about further issues with my car. While I try to be diligent in taking care of my car, I usually end up putting it off longer than I should just because I dread so much the sales guy who, with faux concern, insists that I need $2,000 worth of work every time I go in. Loved this place! I was having some trouble with my air conditioning and went to have it checked out. They charged to inspect, but let me know they would deduct the charge if anything was wrong. I'm very skiddish about taking my car in to places, as I feel like most places try to rip me off. They let me know what they did and said if I had any problems with my freon again, they'd fill it for free! They didn't try to pressure me into getting anything else done, which I really appreciated. This place is the bee's knees. So few auto mechanics can run a profitable business while maintaining integrity, yet somehow these guys pull it off. I drove my 05 Ford Explorer down last summer when I moved from upstate NY. Though it has since deceased (may it rest in peace) it was my first car, one packed full of memories and all that sentimental jazz. On the trip down the battery would die whenever the car was turned off. And I had just replaced the battery. I was devestated, figuring I was in line for a new alternator. Yelp suggested I call them and I initally spoke to Evan, the owner's son. This dude was empathetic and professional, telling me not to panic as the problem could be due to any number of reasons. Bedside manor of a brain surgeon. I took it in and they ran a full diagnostic on it for free. Turns out it there was an electrical problem with my rear windshield wiper that was sucking the life out of my battery. They fixed it for me for less an $100. They were able to make minor adjustments on it here and there until my transmission went out, and at that point they suggested I consider selling rather than forking over a lot of money to replace. I've been loyal to them ever since I moved down here and I DEFINITELY recommend them to everyone. read more

Took my car here for an engine light issue. Turned out to be a sticking cylinder head, which would have been a few thousand dollars to fix, but then they pointed out that I was still under a powertrain warranty, and that I could get it fixed for free at my dealership. Needless to say, I was thankful, so when I got it back and needed a new battery (which I couldn't easily install myself because it's buried a foot and a half down inside the wheel well), I took it back to them, and was in and out in half the time they said it would probably take. My wife's car is in desperate need of an alignment, so they'll be getting that business too :) read more

OkSo I'm here in the waiting area. Clean, cool and spacious. Offering coffee and snacks and water. Trent was very couteous and patient answering my questions. I usually take my Kia Sportage to the RR Kia dealership for everything, this time I wanted to try something less expensive and less intimidating! The shop next door, actually a German Dealership highly recommend this car repair business so I took a leap of faith! The problems were my car was only cooling one side, blowing hot air one side and cool the other and the sound system just stopped working. They quickly diagnosed that the sound system needed a new fuse which I am very happy to hear. They could have told me anything but I appreciate their evaluation. Trent explained that the visual AC inspection could not give a clear indicator of what the exact problem was, which meant a fuller diagnostics costing $109 and should take one hour to diagnose. So depending on what needs to be done my options for transport were impressive. Car shuttle to take me home and pick up if it's going to be done in one day. Or they can offer me a complimentary car overnight. Or an Uber to take me home, paid for. Now to find out what's wrong and if it can be covered under my extended 100,000miles warranty. Tbc.... My warranty dude not cover the Air Conditioning. Total for inspection and repair the account was $375 which I thought was good value and 1 year warranty on the work. Thankyou for the great service! Every time I get in my car...I feel like kicking some one's ass . I took my Dodge 2001 very well cared for less than 75K miles. I was told I needed motor mounts...no cheap deal. I had them put on. The car drives like crap. Every time I stop for a light. It would almost vibrate the fillings out of your teeth!! I have taken it back 2-3 time. I was told the car was too OLD that was the problem. If it was TOO OLD why did they recommend and do the work. . I have had 2 other certified mechanics look at it. I was advised Tech One didn't put the correct ones or factory mounts on it. I don't feel like paying another $600.00. It NEVER RAN this ROUGH ever before taking it to Tech One....I will never go back, or recommend anyone to go there. GOOD LUCK IF YOU DO. read more

I took my car in today because I had vibration in my car and come to find out it was just a tire issue. David not only went over the specifics of it but also did not charge me for the diagnostic! Honest Mechanics, Reasonable Price, Friendly Customer Service! I moved to Texas from California. I had two mechanics in CA told me that My right CV boots need to be replaced. I called Tech one automotive asked fora price quote. Danny the owner quoted price that is $80 cheaper compare to other shops I called. I took my car in today for CV boot replacement. After the inspection, Danny told me there was nothing wrong with the CV boot (no cracks or leaks). He showed me the boot, which is fine. I am in and out for about 20 minutes (Danny saved me $200.00). What makes my experience even better, They top off my break fluid without any charges (Yah!). This is the shop I wan to bring my car in for maintenance and repairs! read more

I started going to Tech One Auto a couple years ago when I moved to Austin. I chose them because of all the great ratings on Yelp. I came to Tech One for most of my vehicle maintenance and was able to confirm everything in the reviews. The people were friendly, service seemed adequate, and you could tell they were passionate about helping their customers. It was unlike most auto shops I had previously experienced and I made sure to recommend them to friends when they were having auto problems. Today was my first visit to Tech One in about a year. I had moved further away and most of my service needs were too minor to drive the distance. Now I am back in the neighborhood and my A/C needed servicing. I didn't even think about who to call first. I took my car in for servicing and the place was empty (The last few times I had been there it was bustling and they seemed very busy). I dropped off the rig and 30 minutes later received a call saying I needed to replace the compressor and it was going to cost about a quarter the worth of the vehicle. I told them I would get back to them, did some research and saw their price may have been a little steep, but not terrible. If I thought it made sense for me to make that kind of investment I would have had no problem telling them to go ahead, but I don't want to continue pouring that kind of money into this vehicle. I called them back and told them it doesn't make sense for me at this time to go forward with the new compressor and asked if I had any other options. They told me they would call me back and let me know what else they could do. Six hours go by and less than an hour before they close and I still had not heard back from them. I gave them a call and the manager I spoke with earlier had already left. So the service tech on the phone had to call him and call me back. He came back with a slightly lower price, but still wasn't low enough for it to make sense for me to invest into the rig. (I do appreciate that they were able to lower the price since the parts are expensive they were really cutting into their labor costs). I told them I had to think about it and I was coming to grab the vehicle. Here is why I wont return to Tech One. When I got there he handed me a bill for $70. What was I paying for? The thirty minutes it took them to check my A/C? The "research" they did to find me another option? It could be that Tech One is hurting for business and they really needed my $70. If that is the case it is very unfortunate, but it is not the way to get repeat customers. If I was to continue going to Tech One I would have brought them a lot more than $70 worth of service. I'm not saying I shouldn't have had to pay anything, but $140/hr to get my vehicle serviced is a little extreme. I really hope Tech One goes back to their old ways of working with and ensuring their customers have a good experience. It's upsetting to see local businesses run themselves into the ground by sacrificing their customer satisfaction. read more

I have had two minor problems with my car. In the first place, the air-conditioner stopped blowing cold air. They took it in, and after 30mn ~ 1hr, they found that the dial on the inside had come loose. So, they fixed it and only charged a reasonable labor fee for the time working. (Think about what a dishonest place could have charged me...) Not long after, I got my first Texas license plates, and this state requires the front plate. My car was not equipped. The repair shop closest to my home said it would take a kit from Toyota, and a couple of hundred dollars. Pinched for cash at the time, I dropped by this place and explained that I'm OK with a less aesthetic alternative. After 5 minutes and a couple of self-tapping screws, it was done. Cost? $0 because it is "no trouble at all." Will I go to this place again? You betcha. Just contrast that with paying for services that others sell, that you don't really need. read more

I have spent a half century fixing my own vehicles. Rebuilding engines, automatic and manual transmissions, marine outboard and inboard engines. A major life change has put me in an apartment where I can't do much of anything other than start my car. Said car is older GM with 3.8L V6. A few weeks ago it developed major coolant leakage. My best analysis was that it was the common and dreaded upper and lower intake manifold gaskets. Tech One was a ten minute walk from my abode, had great ratings, and my phone conversation with Dave left me comfortable. I had a quote of almost $900 for the gasket work, which I knew was not out of bounds. As one who has never been in an auto shop, I felt like a virgin taken to the altar. But I was spared. I dropped The Big Ugly off, and some hours later got a call that said their analysis showed that my problem was the two plastic 90 degree coolant tubes, another known problem with these engines. They replaced the tubes, did a reasonable review of what else the car needs (although it will be sold in a year or two), and my bill was $300. The important point is that they could have just as easily stiffed me for $900, done the lesser job, and I would not have known the difference. They suggested some other work, and truth be told, they were right on, even if the prices were on the high side. OTOH, their work has a national 24 month, 24000 mile warranty with road assistance. This old wrench spinner, grease under the finger nails, shop virgin gives them five stars. read more

It's never very fun to have to be a responsible adult and take care of your car. They made it easy for me. They explained very clearly what needed to be done and they didn't try to convince me to get something fixed that I don't really need... My dad warned me about that with auto shops. In terms of price it was definitely on the cheaper side. I looked up what the average cost was to get my front rotors and brake pads replaced for the Austin area and this was one of the cheaper ones. The waiting area was nice. Lots of natural light and comfy seating. Wifi was fast too. Overall a good experience! read more

I took my car here with confidence after reading all of the reviews on yelp. I dropped off my car on the way to work and specified exactly what I wanted done. I know what needed to be done I just don't have time or tools - so I was willing to pay someone to replace a part for me (which is unusual). After waiting all morning for a call from them, I checked in at my lunch break. They had called my cell phone and left a message (and not tried the work number I provided). The guy mumbled off what they were going to do, which as far as I could understand was what I had asked. So they had waited all morning to hear back from me before getting started. I got over it and they said it would be done by the end of the day. I again emphasized they must call me at work to give me updates. I waited until about 4:30 - without hearing anything and decided to call again. They once again called my cell phone. I then asked to arrange for them to come pick my up at work to get my car, seeing as they had dropped me off in the morning. At 4:30 he told me it was to late in the day to get me because they close at 6... At this point I was furious. I spent the next hour at work trying to secure a ride to get my car before 6, or not have my car until Monday (because I took it in Friday). After I got there I quickly paid and drove off. After arriving home I opened the hood to see they had NOT CHANGED THE PART. They had cleaned up what I had doctored on there and put it back together and charged me $90. I'm not sure if they assumed that as a girl I had no idea what I was talking about or what. SO.... I took it there and specifically told them exactly what to do. They waited to call me and tell me what they were going to do. Then still didn't do it as I asked. To top it of they left me hanging on communication and a ride back to my car at the end of the day. I'm very angry about this whole situation and will not be returning there for any other issues as it seems they can't even do something simple. read more
