The first time I went to Teapot was with a large group of friends because it seemed like a popular place a good for a large group. I have to say that the service is veryy good.. but the food is not. I had gotten sushi for the first time in my life there and was so reluctant to try it again elsewhere after that experience (however now I am a huge sushi person). I ordered a simple vegetable roll and it tasted STRONGLY like fish (there was not any roe or anything on it, just carrot, cucumber and seseme seeds). The next time I went to Teapot was, again, with a group of friends and I decided to go the simple route, staying away from the sushi, and get miso soup, salad and dumplings. You can't really mess up the soup or salad but the dumplings were awful. They were pretty much only made up of the puffy breading with hardly any filling and they tasted like they were fried from a frozen bag you buy in the grocery store. Needless to say, no good. As I said before, the service was very good and the waiters were friendly both times I had been there. They also keep the windows open in the summertime, which makes a nice atmosphere. read more

I've had teapot several times over the last few years that I have resided in Northampton and I have to say: I'm not impressed. Whenever I get food from them it is often burnt or not what I ordered. I am extremely unimpressed by the quality of the food as well. It is not worth the money and definitely not worth your time! While Northampton does not have much in the way of "good cheap chinese" I would avoid teapot, and chance Taipei and Tokyo instead. read more

VERY rude, worst service - food was just okay, nothing great. The service is the reason I will never go back. They were rude, didn't say hello, it was hot and stuffy in there and we didn't get a single smile. I felt like I was intruding on someone's personal time and home. The Teapot used to be my favorite place to go for a quick dinner. However it no longer serves that purpose. I got extremely sick from their beef teriyaki and will never go back again. I told some of my friends and two of them said that they also became ill after eating there. Very disappointed. read more

Very unfriendly. It was not busy at 1:30 PM and I was treated like an inconvenience. I was POINTED to a table without a smile or a word. The waiter/cashier barked out the choices for my meal, so far with no eye contact from anyone. The portion was small but OK for lunch. The eggroll and fried rice were cold. "Not terrible" kind of sums it up. Prices are reasonable and the food isn't bad, although also not thrilling. However, the service is weirdly awful. Went with a party of six, barely anyone else in the restaurant, and the waitstaff sort of vaguely acknowledged that we were there. Nobody smiled. They appeared to be unhappy that we had each ordered different dishes (how rude of us) because when they brought everything they announced each dish with a bark of exasperation. They seemed super eager and excited to clear away our plates though. Really, they could not wait to get those plates away from us. I picked it because it's affordable and centrally located, but we spent much of the time being mystified by the waitstaff's obvious desire for the customers to leave. I won't be back. read more

When we first moved to Western MA, we were told to try Teapot, and I have to say, the food and service were fine (this was 12 years ago). I don't know what happened, but over the years, things have really gone downhill here. I don't expect everyone to smile and coddle me when I enter a restaurant, but a courteous greeting is not an unreasonable desire. The last time I was there with a friend (two weeks ago), we were barely shown to a table. The service was practically non-existent. It took a while for our order to be taken and then, when the food came, the plates were dumped down in front of us by a rude server who didn't ask who got which dish. We had to switch our plates. The food was awful. Presentation was unappetizing, and my sushi was disgusting. I couldn't finish. I would have given a bad tip, but my friend has a kinder heart than I and she wouldn't let me. I will never go back to that place again. Ever. Oh, and if Yelp would allow it, I would give zero stars. It doesn't even rate one. read more

Absolutely horrifying. This place has gone down hill...to put it mildly. We walked in on a Friday evening. The place was nearly empty on a Friday night (should have been our first sign) . We were seated in the back corner. The place was hot and muggy. No one came to take our drink orders. We had to literally walk to the front to get a server to come back and take a drink order. She seemed annoyed that we were bothering her. She was rude and said "what kind of drinks do you want?" with an annoyed look. Then another rude, unfriendly waiter came to take our order and literally said "what do you want?" We had to send back the wine which was rancid and had obviously been sitting out and was spoiled. We then had to send back the dumplings appetizer (which was served at the same time as the meal)...the dumplings were cold, raw, rancid and inedible. After being served our main course of mediocre sushi, no one ever came back to check on us to see how the meal was and if we needed anything. Horrible food, horrible service. They also tried to charge us for the rancid wine and we refused to pay for it. Run, don't walk away from this dump. What a shame for a Main Street Northampton restaurant. read more

The reality is there aren't many Chinese food options available in Northampton. Sadly, Teapot is one of them. While the exterior is welcoming and promising of a great meal, the food leaves much to be desired. The food was barely passable as hot - it should be piping hot and steaming. My chicken broccoli was not good. It was on the salty side, the sauce was soupy, the chicken had a stale flavor and I just wanted to fast forward to the end. The rice was less than ample and served at room temperature!! My mom's shrimp lomein was so salty she had it returned to the kitchen and decided not to order a new dish - her appetite was ruined. The shrimp had a dry taste and it looked like they just mixed in soy sauce and plopped it on the plate. I'm from NYC and I can say that the Chinese takeout spot around the corner is a world better than this...the food is piping hot, plentiful, flavorful and real chunks of meat and vegetables!!!! read more

I had one night in Northampton, and was told that it had to be spent at the Teapot! Was really looking forward to it! The restaurant was gorgeous, and parking was available nearby (unexpected!). Once inside, we got a prime table near the window, which was also great! After that, things got a little unacceptable. Our waitress was very curt and probably super efficient, but I have a food allergy and did not feel confident that she heard/understood me when I told her about it. Our table ordered sushi and a Japenese entree, both of which were inedible. INEDIBLE. The sushi tasted like old fryer oil - there was no way to taste anything else, and it wasn't going down. We sent it back and ordered a Chinese entree in it's place, which was also really poorly done. The Japenese entree was overpowered by a really salty soy-based sauce, and the protein was cooked in a way that made me unable to eat it because of my food allergy (I am gluten free, and the shrimp was battered and fried, which just confirmed that telling our waitress about my allergy was kind of useless). The Chinese entree was covered in a sauce that was congealed and tepid and tasted super synthetic, like it was poured out of a jar or something. All in all, the meal was pretty awful - one of the most awful meals I have had out ever. I have never sent food back to a kitchen, or complained about a meal, and thus was very uncomfortable. The waitstaff did not make it easy on us. We were charged for everything, even what we sent back to the kitchen. When I asked if the bill could be amended to reflect what we sent back to the kitchen, there was a lot of conversation over my head in another language and only one of the items (the least expensive one) was taken off, leaving the others right where they were. Although we were not loud, or rude (I hope!), it was obvious that our experience was an unpleasant one, and no effort was made on the part of the restaurant staff or management to do anything other than pretend we weren't there. A dinner for 2 of wasted food, and $50 later, and I will not be returning to the Teapot. read more
