Ugh. What has happened here. I used to get sushi from this place all the time, and then things just went south. I've tried it again a few more times over the last year and just can't finish what I order. The sushi is not fresh and the flavors of other dishes I've tried are mediocre. I love this place and the food is always amazing. But I will say one thing I don't appreciate is that they close at 9 PM, but stop accepting orders at around 8-8:15pm I believe. This is only an assumption based on my experiences with trying to order around that time. But instead of communicating that, they just put you on hold. I called at 8:15 PM, thinking that they only stopped online orders and that I could probably put in an order over the phone. I was placed on hold without any formal greeting, and found myself waiting for five minutes. So I hung up the phone and tried calling again, but the line was busy , as they probably turned the phones off. As someone who orders from there frequently, this is definitely disappointing, and it wasn't the first time they have done this to me. All I'm saying is, kindness first and communication second. I worked in customer service for 12 years, with 11 of them being in food service. If you go regularly, everyone will know your name--or at least your face and what your favorite dishes are. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal here in almost five years? Rolls, bowls, gyoza, salads (those secret dressings/sauces!) and sashimi... nothing is less than great. Whether you go at lunchtime and it's quiet and you get to watch huge hunks of tuna get sliced up fresh while you eat, or you have to wait for a seat at dinnertime because it's *always* packed in the evenings, it's always worth it. And it's ridiculous how affordable it is for the quality. Honestly, it's terrible that I haven't left a review sooner. This was the last restaurant I ate in as the pandemic loomed and it's the one I miss the most. read more

We were in Springfield for the Big E and stayed the weekend. On Saturday night I checked yelp listings and found Master Chef. We were going to go for either Italian or Japanese food. Flip of a coin a Master Chef won. We are really glad that it did ! We sat at the sushi bar and ordered hot sake. We were told that the didn't sell liquor but there was a liquor store a 1/4 mile down the road. They would hold our seats if we wanted to go get something. Well, you can't have Japanese food without sake so we dashed down the road and found an enormous liquor store that had a nice selection of sake. Picked our favorite and headed back. Our seats we reserved (a good think since the plane had filled up in our absence). They graciously offered to warm the sake which we accepted. Now that we were back we started to review the menu and had a different time choosing since everything sounded so good. I settled on the Bulgogi Tacos and sashimi dinner. The wife had the Korean BBQ Short Ribs. The tacos came out first and were absolutely delicious ! While we were enjoying the tacos we watched as the chef's prepared the sashimi. We also had a view into the open kitchen so we could watch what was going on in there too. The entrees came out nicely spaced after finishing the appetizer. The fish was superb as was the short ribs. Service was excellent and the staff friendly and accommodating! I only wish that we live closer so that we could go more often. Seriously, we would eat there at least once a week if we did. I drove by this place on the way to a museum and decided to stop in on the drive back. It's in a house and parking is in the back. I sat at the bar around the kitchen where others seemed to prefer as well (for lunch anyways). I ordered a $14 combo of a spicy shrimp roll and hot & spicy pork belly ramen. What a great price for a lovely roll and a very good ramen. Is it the best ramen I've had? No, but for the price, I was impressed by the quality. It had decent pork belly and great spicy broth. I would be going here almost weekly at these prices if I lived closer. Apart from sushi, it also provides multiple other authentic dinner options such as noodles,bulgogi, bibimbap, hibachi, etc. I had their spicy seafood ramen which was well prepared. Optimum spicy with squids, shrimps and mussels, along with multiple veggies. Fire cracker sushi was also good. Cons- the place is very small and doesn't have fancy dinner ambience. Although the place is popular as a takeout. They do not have a cocktails bar but they do allow to bring your own booze (BYOB). Happily, the reviews are accurate and this turned out to be surprisingly good sushi. The value, in particular, is very high. The sushi pieces are substantial. The maguro was supple and delicious. The salmon was buttery and smooth. The hamachi too was large and nice. The rice was well cooked and everything stayed together. The rolls too turned out to better than the average coils of mush that are so typical. The simple salmon rolls were best - just salmon, nori and rice. The shrimp and cucumber rolls were fresh with small bits of crunchy cucumber and firm shrimp. The hamachi rolls were OK, but the least favorite. Got it to go, which is probably best because the space felt more like a mountain hangout bar/restaurant than a sushi based restaurant. read more

I've enjoyed a take out order from master chef twice in the last four days. Master chef has a online order option that is very easy to use and convenient. Both times I ordered the sushi supreme. It's a $45 item that I imagine is intended for two people. It includes 10 pieces of sushi, 18 pieces of sashimi, a chefs choice specially roll and a spicy tuna roll. No one in my family likes sushi but being a big guy with a decent appetite I was pretty confident nothing would go to waste. Service at the counter was very friendly and I was handed a good sized paper bag that had some weight to it. I don't know about you but there have been other establishments I've ordered to go sushi only to be totally baffled when opening the bag and seeing a small container. I always wonder....I paid that for a little container. Somehow I feel ripped off. This however is not one of those stories. My bag was filled with three generous containers of delicious sushi and a surprise.....miso soup. Very unexpected but a nice touch nevertheless. The fish was delicious. Melt in my mouth. Fresh, good eye appeal and I felt was a great value. I would definitely recommend Master Chef if your looking for "another option " in the land of sushi in South Hadley. This is by far the best sushi restaurant I have been to outside of Japan. They pick up the fish themselves from markets in Boston every couple of days at 430am to ensure the freshness and quality. The salmon and tuna sushi just melts in your mouth with the delicious fatness goodness... It is pure magic on your taste buds. There is no fishy aftertaste like some places serve. You can actually taste the ocean.. It is so clean. I am completely blown away. The Kim chee is extremely fresh tasting; some Kim chee tends to have a rotted flavor but this one was just very clean and yummy. The chef/owner studied aboard under a sushi master in Japan for eight years, moved to Korea for ten years and worked at some of the best sushi restaurants in NYC before coming to western mass and opening up this spot. I can not recommend this place enough. Rarely do I go out of my way to write a glowing review like this, but, this place is just unbelievable and deserves it! I will be back ASAP! read more

Brought the wife and kids for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Sat right down at the sushi counter and were greeted immediately. The menu has a great variety. The restaurant was very clean, cool and comfortable. The kids and my wife had hibatchi chicken, noodles and vegetables. They said it was fantastic. Everything was deliciously hibatchi cooked with a nice sear and sprinkled with sesame. The vegetables were fantastically fresh. Generous portions, even the kids size hibatchi is enough for an adult. I ordered the "sushi regular" which came with a great hot bowl of soup, a california roll and 8 pieces of fresh fish and rice. The tuna, salmon, yellow tail and red snapper were delicious and clearly very fresh. The sushi plate came to me quite a bit after the wife and kids got theirs, but not a big deal.
