My car battery light turned on while i was near Merrillville. Unfortunately aaa did not send the right type of technician to diagnose it so I took it to this Honda service center. I came in at a little before 8am on a Thursday without an appointment, let them know what happened, they answered all my questions, and they speedily diagnosed it. (Was out by 45min-1 hr) I think this probably my best experience with a dealership service center I have ever had. :) I would recommend if your Honda needs a quick check. Definitely not the straightest group in the bunch. Took my car in to have a tech bulletin taken care of. Repaired it, supposedly. Got the car and still didnt work. Then they stated they could continue to have their "master tech" look at it and diagnose it for a fee as they think it's electrical. Come to find out after researching online theres a small part that the wire breaks on. Well low and behold the plug was already disconnected and they are the only ones to touch the car. Went to have my new car touched up for a scratch on the door. I arrived at 9 AM and they did not finish until after 2 PM and never gave me any idea that it would take that long. Let me start by saying I've never felt the need to leave a review like this on any business before. I recently came in to look at a honda certified vehicle and already knew this was the right car for me. I had already looked at this exact model and trim, done my fair share of research on the car itself and the expected finances. Initially they showed us a vehicle price including some extra fees or policies I asked politely to be removed since I was not interested in their rust auto warranties or anything specific to this dealer since I live far away from this location. They returned with a new invoice this time including my trade in (which should lower the price) however they added in other fees such as a theft protection plan and another fee they explained as a discounted cost for them to get the car market ready. They said other dealers just include this in their market pricing (which is true) however they were then above other dealers out the door pricing with the same trim and mileage. The out the door cost only dropped $500 by that point. Once we finally negotiated the car to a fair market value we were fully prepared to drive this car home that day! They made us wait a little less than an hour while they ran my credit and prepared for us in the finance room. When my credit came back it was even higher than i estimated with my soft check. Which in turn could have potentially lowered my interest more than my expected rates considering my term length and principal amount did not change. However when we walked in they tried selling us more warranties I was not interested in either. I had to tell them 3 or 4 times I wasn't interested even after being very clear and having no intent to waste their time. I was firm on not adding these insurances because they don't fit my needs. When it came to the loan paperwork it was VERY CLEAR VERY EARLY they were trying to burn us. The interest rate they told us was already high which was the first red flag. Once we had asked about the payments we realized not only did they already clearly mark up my interest amount, but they also VERBALLY told us a rate 1.0%-1.5% lower than what the math to for the monthly payment was. After confirming this was not a dealership I was interested in bringing my business, we told them we would have to look at other financing options, but would not be signing that loan or taking that car home. After this they became extremely condescending and even went as far to laugh at us when I told them I wouldn't sign a loan with an interest rate of that nature. They tried to make me seem a fool for choosing to walk away and that I would see these rates anywhere. Honestly the behavior was the most disappointing part of this entire experience. Especially when our sales rep was generally very nice and attentive till this point. I can understand the frustration if a customer decides to walk away after putting time into the sale, but absolutely nothing excuses the unprofessional behavior and tone they directed towards us. They may have thought us easy targets because of our age, but as much as they wanted to sway us with their words their numbers never added up--that is exactly why we walked away. read more

BUYERS BEWARE! My son bought a 2022 Silverado, the salesman assured us nothing was wrong with the truck. As soon as he drove home, the truck started jerking really bad, we took it back, was told they could not find anything wrong with it, I even told Kyle the first time we took it in, that another place told us it was the transmission, he ignored that fact, until we took it back, then when I called him out, he stated that he could fix something that he didnt know what to look for, even after I showed him the diagnostic from another company. drive it 1000 miles and if still having problems to bring it back, we took videos of what the truck was doing, they immediately came back and said the transmission needs to be replaced. They did not want to admit it before. They had the vehicle for over a week before ordering the parts, refused to give us a rental which cost us additional 500.00. We have proof that Team Honda knew about the problems with the truck before selling it to us. Chris (manager) call said total repair to transmission was over 8k, and we would have to pay 4900. With such a high price this should have been a new transmission, it was actually for a rebuilt, so I was lied to, Team Honda didn't pay for any of it, like I was told. I called several other transmission places, want was quoted under 5000 for rebuilt, and upto 9300 for new. They had the truck for over a week before ordering the parts, I filed a complaint with BBB, but they have a rating of D- because of their refusal to answer other complaints. I also filed a complaint with the AG, and FTC do to deception. They do not care about the customers. So much communication going back and forth. read more

Had $3000 worth of work done to my 2020 pilot ( timing belt water pump and valve adjustment) checked the car out in the parking lot after paying my bill and found missing bolts in the intake manifold and some brackets.. 2 weeks later engine lights comes on and car is smoking.. They tried to scam me in to buying fuel injectors, and spark plugs.. wanted to charge me another $2200 service.. changing the spark plugs myself solved the problem with the engine light... while I was changing the spark plugs I found the valve cover bolts where loose and oil leaking on to the exhaust... The mechanic who worked on this vehicle was a hack ... wouldn't recommend them to do anything to your Honda.. read more

My FIRST experience buying a new car (this year 2025) was with TEAM HONDA MERRILLVILLE, IN. I bought a new 2025 HONDA HRV. Not a good deal! I even placed $10,000 as down payment that I scraped and saved for on the car. Nice people BUT they are ALL about extracting as much money from you as they can!!!!! People that want to screw you mimic nice people!!! I didn't get the car that I test drove. I got the car with a broken tail light that they replaced a week later and it had 610 miles NOT the 36 miles car I drove. LESSON LEARNED during process is: ALWAYS finance your car with your bank NOT dealership!!! Doesn't matter they come in with lower interest because you get screwed if you don't!!!! I went in for my only "free oil change and tire rotation" but was told "Oh by the way some sort of fluid needs replaced every 10,000 miles and if you don't do it your car won't work." AND costs $150 because its not included.The only fluid that is filled for free is your washer fluid and its not filled up all the way. Most garages top off all fluids. NOT Team Honda! However they will give you a free oil change IF you give them perfect score. AND you get a print out on how to answer those questions!! You know...this is a real racket going on!!! Their service department price gauges so badly!!! Took our CRV in there because it needed a new timing chain. First time at this dealership. NEVER again!! They quoted a price of $2700, which we thought was outrageous, but we needed the car quickly and decided to pay it since we were in a pinch. When we picked it up they said it was almost $500 more!! They said they had "notified my husband"---no they didn't, they had the wrong email address. We asked Bosak Honda how much the same service would have cost there--they said $1800. We paid almost $3200 at Team Honda! Our regular independent mechanic said it would have been $1600 with him-- which is half what we paid!! Came in for an oil change 12/27/2024. An associate tried to upsale me for an additional 700+ dollars worth of other services. One of those services was a brake fluid replacement (once every three years). I told him to check the system and see what work was done, recently as I thought the brake fluid was replaced recently. He told me that none of the services on the upsale list were conducted recently, even at my previous dealer. So I called the previous dealer I used for service. They advised me I had the brake fluid replaced 08/2023. Not a fan of being lied to for monetary gain. 2-star because they did the oil change. Took three hours, but they did it. read more

i am absolutely appalled at the treatment that Team Honda gave to a woman that went in for a recall issue. they performed her recall, did a check of her vehicle and system, wrote up that her transmission fluid was " in the red" stating it needed immediate attention, and did NOTHING ELSE. never even explained to this woman what this check was. they just handed her the paper, and walked away. she had to stop in at a local auto parts store, asking what she needed to do. myself and my team did attempt to check the level for her, but it was beyond our abilities. we had the intention to help her out, but weren't able to. anyway, it wouldn't have taken this so called "tech" any time to explain things to her. she was in an almost panic, afraid to continue driving her vehicle. the best I could do for her was to advise her to call this dealership immediately, and find out what to do. she found out that the checklist means that she'll need to have the transmission fluid changed, and it can only be done during an oil change. this woman just hit the 30K mark, which is the magical number according to Team. when the woman asked why it wasn't done, since she just had the oil changed 2 weeks ago, she was told it was because she hadn't hit that mileage mark, and if it were done "early" Honda wouldn't cover it. there is NO EXCUSE for this woman to be experiencing this, she has a brand new vehicle. read more

Meanwhile, without actually checking the quality of my fluids or checking if my car was out of align they texted me with a laundry list of items that were deemed an emergency. I just had my oil changed 3 weeks prior and they actually checked the fluids and found them to be in order. I called my mechanic to see what they charge for an alignment. They told me $80. Team Honda wanted to charge me $160.00. The service team is not welcoming and definitely not honest. If I ever thought about getting a car from this place, that notion has been destroyed. read more

Bought a new crv here in 2017.  Purchased a bumper to bumper warranty for $3k.  Of course, just a few months after the warranty ended, the fuel injectors fail.  This is so rare on a car yet common on this car.   $1,400.  A year later, I'm told I need a head gasket replacement for $4200 ... Again. I HAVE SPENT $10K HERE IN MAINTENANCE OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS!  Honda supposedly extended this warranty to 6 years unlimited miles... for some reason this dealership won't honor it.   If you must buy a Honda, don't go here... they have consistently told me my vehicle was due for services 30,000 miles b4 it was due.  If you want a Honda,  I suggest Honda Matteson-  I wish I would have researched, they give a free lifetime power train engine and transmission warranty on every vehicle. **UPDATE: I emailed the General Manager (Mike) twice, and he failed to respond read more

I found a car online and scheduled a test drive on a Saturday. I asked for pictures of the inside as they only had a stock photo. I never got an answer. I scheduled the test drive and again asked for photos of the inside and was told it was getting detailed and would be sending pictures in the morning. still no pictures. Saturday comes and I'm getting ready to leave in the next 30-45 minutes to head to the dealership where I receive a text that I can not come test drive the car as the GM decided to take it home for the weekend, and just for clarification my appointment was in the afternoon. We bought a "Honda certified" Pilot about 3 months ago. My husband notice when he was washing it that one of the tires does not match. It states in the Honda certification standards that all 4 tires must match (this is an awd vehicle) when we bought the vehicle I pointed out the tire was balding- the sales manager argued with me claiming that the tires were all measured and passed certification standards. This tire does not. When we called to bring this to their attention, they said to bring it it. My husband brought it in only to be accused of switching the tire out himself in order to pull one over on them. As my husband was leaving, the service manager told my husband "f*** you". This car did not look like it had been cleaner or looked over at all- a just thrown on the lot when it came off of a lease. There was dog hair in the back seat, the leather was filthy (all which we were willing to clean ourselves, but we refused to pay the $500 "service/cleaning fee" because that obviously wasn't done. Salesman Rick was great but the finance guy Joe was really pushy and tried to pull a fast one on me. Twice. He didn't say a word about the deductible on the warranty until I was signing paperwork, and I only saw it because I actually read the paper. And he asked me what it would take to get me to take the extended warranty, after what felt like an hour of pressure, and when I caved and said $10 a month he calculated it based on the 60 month loan price but when we got to that paperwork I realized that it was $10 more than the 60 month price on a 72 month loan, which brought the cost of the warranty to like $35 or $40 a month even though I had been clear about which terms I wanted ($10 a month, 72 month loan). He wrote down a million numbers and tried to confuse me like some kind of shell game. And as if that wasn't enough, when he left me "alone" in his office to confer with my husband on the phone he left a call open on line 1 of his phone, probably on speaker, and I'm pretty sure he was listening in. I walked to another desk to verify that there were no flashing lights on that phone. I almost walked out at that point. I should have. I understand that it's his job to upsell me, and that dealers make most of their money on warranties and gap insurance, but he would NOT take no for an answer and I do not appreciate the ways he tried to trick me. I've been debating for almost two weeks about whether or not I should leave a review online, but after what I experienced I want other people to be aware that Joe is a sneaky snake who will do whatever it takes to scam you into services you don't want for prices you did not agree to. As another reviewer noted, when I caught him in all of his dishonesty and finally got across to him that I was going to leave if he didn't sell me the car on my terms, he became rude and hateful. I ended up coming home and refinancing through MY OWN BANK at half a percent less interest, and no one tried to trick me or bully me.
