They need skilled mechanic. They never serviced many motorcycles, even mine. Simple update or recall is a challenge for them. EVERY SINGLE TIME they manage to damage, scratch or gouge the new motorcycle, and it's not a cheap motorcycle, 20 K. They never offered to fix or repair damage they caused on the motorcycle, and it has almost nothing to do with what was the motorcycle brought in for! Totally careless, clumsiness. Some real high notes, firstly I will admit to them being responsive to my email inquires and they did follow up with phone calls too. I was initially interested in a scooter, but also open to something bigger. I will admit to being a bit indecisive between the two and I was very upfront about this. I did ask about financing and numbers on both and Lisa did do an excellent job running down financing with a much better rate than Honda credit offered. We drove over from Chicago, because to be honest the two Honda dealers we contacted here didn't even do me the courtesy of a phone call back. Lake Cycle is a nice family run dealership, with a decent amount of bikes to look at. Although, a couple of times I sensed that my indecisiveness may have been a bit trying, I did note a sigh or two when I wanted to go back to the other cycle and back again. I know they were very busy it being a Saturday and all. I did finally decide on the Honda MN4, feeling a bigger bike will be the safest overall when dealing with Chicago traffic, or a nearby road trip. I wanted a couple of accessories added so we decided to have them deliver the bike after the accessories were put on. They also handled ordering the plates. This was a bit of a hiccup, the bike was to be delivered to my business with either a temp plate or the permanent one installed, neither of which happened. The driver actually went back for it, but forgot to leave it. I understand mistakes happen, and they did FedEx it that same day, however, I was the one to email asking what was up. Hey, how about just letting me know when the mistake was caught. Also I asked about a center stand, I was told that she was going to look and let me know, never heard back. These folks are very knowledgeable, and better than many out there, however just some dropped things that could be tightened up to make them great. Yeah. Do it yourself or find a better service center. VTX 1300 2017 - I took a front tire in for a bounce between 25-45mph. I thought the wheel had some runout. They looked at it and told me it just needed balanced. I left for the Blue Ridge Parkway and had a bounce through 9 states. BRP is 45 mph speed limit. 2018 I brought the bike in for tires and told them the same problem still exist. They installed A new tire and same story from them "it just needed balanced". Brought it home and same issue. Finally, I put the bike up on a stand and made my own runout gauge. In the end, 12 spokes needed 1/2 turn in and the problem is gone. The 2018 service was for tires and a carb jetting. I called on May 9th for an "appointment". I was told May 29th was the next opening. They looked at the bike and ordered parts on May 31st. The parts arrived June 7th then the bike sat till June 22nd. Almost a month with an appointment! Then the kicker was the bike ran like crap after the jet kit. I brought it back after a few days and the service manager said "you may have to learn how to ride the bike again". Another customer waiting heard the bike too and said it sounds like its choking. The offered me to leave the bike again and would look at it later that week. I wasn't going to leave my bike for them to keep another 2 weeks. I took the bike home and spent the night researching the symptoms. Turns out the A/F screw was 3.5 turns out. Adjusted back to stock 2 1/4 turns and it runs great. The carb and front wheel are enough lipstick fixes for me. I'll take my service to a place that knows what their doing or "if you want it done right, do it yourself." They need to learn how to take care of customers. read more

Please please do not take your motorcycle etc. here they jacked my bike up so bad. Jeff the owner what kind of owner doesn't make sure the job is done right the first time? I took my bike to him on 5/2022 what I now know was the biggest mistake of all time he was supposed to do a rebuild of my carburetor which they did not do nor didn't know how they left old parts on and even had some piece in backwards, I bout the bike back to him to look at it because it was still riding the same when it was supposed to be fixed I had the same problems backfire and such then when I call to check on it his favorite line is one worker quit this the big one his worker had a sick child he kept using that one. My thing is this I paid for repairs that clearly was not complete and then he sends me out on the road wit a malfunction motorcycle they was sloppy with the seal around the carburetor he fixed that but it should of never looked that way I work very hard for my money and to give it to a shop for not doing anything but holding my bike there is unacceptable! Awesome, awesome, awesome and even more awesome! I am an avid motorcyclist and have been for several years. The bike I currently ride is an 2003 Honda Shadow ACE. I haven't had any major problems with my bike but because of major changes I've made, I needed little adjustments here and there. It's been hard to find a good dealership that does quality work. The previous dealership I used to go to recently close down. (Hmmmmm) I contemplated going all the way out to Des Plaines Honda to get my bike worked on. Thanks to my recent driving in Indy, I passed Lake Cycle on a whim. "Wow there is a Honda dealership nearby", I exclaimed. I was so excited, I took down their information and vowed to come back. A couple of weeks ago, I stopped in. Just checking out the shop and the service area. Lots of men employees (probably bikers) and a couple of female workers. They may ride too, hell I do. Everyone greeted me with a smile and asked me if I needed help. I was just browsing around the store to check out their inventory. Nice amount of jackets, helmets and custom products. They really have a nice store. Bikes in the front when you come in, accessories and clothing in the back. Towards the rear of the store is the service entrance. This is where I met their amazing service manager Dan De Young. He introduced himself and asked me about my bike. I told him I was interested in getting some new handlebars put on and a air horn. Dan told me whenever I was ready, I could bring my bike on in. Now this is unusual. Around this time of year, everyone is bringing their bikes to the shop to get service. Normally, you would have to make a appointment to drop off your bike. Dan must manage the schedule very well because when he told me to bring my bike in, I brought it later on that day. Dan said before any work was to be done, he would call me and let me know what services I would need. I have over 18,000 miles on my bike, so I know it was beyond time for a tuneup. Now only did Dan call and let me know, he also quoted exact prices. Basically, I hadn't had any maintenance done on my bike in 2 years. So my maintenance on the bike was more than my customs. Totally understandable. My bike was ready a week later and my bill was a little under $700. I was waiting on a day to take her out and blow the smoke out to see if everything was good. I just got back from my ride and I'm happy to say that Orange Crush is rockin' and rollin' . (of course I named my bike, doesn't everybody?!) I must call and thank Dan again for the outstanding service. I'm also going to let my club members know that a great motorcycle shop is nearby to do excellent work on their bikes. read more

The people at Lake Cycle have always treated me and my wife good. Kevin is great to work with and easy to talk to. Lisa makes the financing quick and smooth. Jeff in Service really is terrific. Took my CB1100 in for service. Even though it's the beginning of riding season and the Service Dept is swamped, Jeff stayed in close contact with me and is working on getting my bike back to me quickly. I bought my 2013 Honda VFR1200 DCT from Lake Cycle in January 2015. I had a great buying experience at Lake Cycle. The staff were very helpful during our visit to the dealership as well as the buying process. My wife and I travelled ~50 miles from IL to Lake Cycle in IN, since we were looking for a specific model/color that that is no longer in production in the US and only a few were left in the market. On our first visit, we really appreciated the fact that the sales staff, though they answered all our questions patiently, did not push us to go through with a purchase then-and-there like many dealerships tend to do. Once we were ready to buy, we reached out to Lake Cycle over the phone and Kevin from the sales team assisted us with the purchase. He was especially helpful in coordinating the financing process with my bank as there were additional steps involved due to the out-of-state purchase. Lastly, we also noticed that Lake Cycle had an impressive inventory of motorcycle, scooters, ATVs etc. I will gladly consider Lake Cycle for my future buying needs. read more

Called back to tell the owner and he is a awesome guy did everything in his power to make sure I was happy. The owner should get rid of Kevin and get someone who's more customer friendly. read more

I took my 2013 Goldwing there, at my scheduled appointment time. I live quite a ways away so arrangements were made that I would wait for the repair, starting when they opened. That's where I found out that their service department was down to one person, a mechanic. His duties where then to answer the many phone calls, wait on any walk-in service customers, AND work on my bike all at the same time. Needless to say it took hours. Then he screwed up the oil drainage plug, stripped it, with none in stock. Because of their mechanics incompetence and their inability to properly manage the place, (someone else should have been taking the phone calls) I can not recommend this place at all ! ! read more

I have finally come around to reviewing this place. I ride a Honda ST1300 and my husband brought the bike to them after he purchased it in Grand Rapids from a BMW dealership. The guys he bought it from didn't know shit about Hondas and weren't aware that the front tire was mounted backwards until hubby pointed it out to them and got a great deal on my bike, along with some new tires. Okay, so he brings it to Lake Honda and asks the guys to just check it over to make sure everything's okay because I'm going to be doing some serious traveling on this bike. They check it out and everything's good with the bike. They also ran the VIN....the previous owner had purchased an extended warranty on the bike (until 2014), which would have been a great way to charge us at least another 500 bucks on the purchase price, but the dopes at BMW didn't even check! So, I have an honest Honda place to come to when I need something and an awesome bike that the BMW guys couldn't have possibly appreciated! I brought the bike in for an oil change this morning. It's Labor Day weekend (Friday). The service guy took me right away and the oil change was about $68. Not bad. As always, the service is great at this place. They carry some of the best accessories I've come across in all my travels. I bought our Shark helmets here, our Scorpion jackets and today I ordered some soft luggage bags to fit inside my hard bags. They are kind, courteous and respectful, which means a lot to a lady rider. read more

Worst place ever for any service you need for a bike you bought from them. They treat you like a foreigner. They do not recognize you after you spend thousands with them. I bought a 2012 Honda ruckus brand new from there. It was a project for my sons , we stretched it and lowered it and now they say it's because it was "modified" they don't know why it doesn't run. The service department and sales just bash you. Make you feel like a stranger. We paid them to pick it up, work on it and it still doesn't run. Kevin the GM just sits back and says he doesn't have anything to do with service. He will sell you a bike but when it's broke he just looks the other way and says he has nothing to do with it. Well if you want to pay thousands for the bike, hundreds for their accessories department and not be recognized this is the place to buy! They just make excuses. I called made an appt and then was treated like garbage. Worst place ever to buy and service. A 2012 ruckus , moped and they couldn't fix it. The whole staff at lake cycle is the worst to deal with. Buyer beware! But when the GM Kevin wants his daughters 12 year old CR-V worked on he makes sure you know he "owns" Lake Cycle" and wants ans insists on a discount. But when you need something he forgets who you are and blames his own service dept. They couldn't even fix a MOPED, sat there over 3 weeks before they looked at it. I made Appt, paid for pick up and then when I called for an update they were rude, disrespectful, and made every excuse as to why they didn't look at and charged me several hundred dollars and it still doesn't run. read more

I brought in my bike to add a trickle charger, get an oil change and add new tires. After nearly a month I was told that I needed carburetor work - I was hesitant but said ok. I went to pick up the bike to find an inflated bill with double charges (which were removed quickly but come on seriously?) The Trickle chargers wasn't attached to the battery (they put it on after I asked about it), the paint on the frame under my seat was all scratched up (I noticed that days later). The chrome caps for the handle bars were all broken (I received those in the mail from Lake Cycle but come on seriously?). Now my bike backfires when releasing the clutch while down shifting and my battery will not maintain a charge. So I'm pretty sure that I got ripped off. Sadly Lake Cycle seems to be the only place that works on non Harley's in the area. I'm currently looking for a place to trust... Beware of Lake Cycle, they are everything you don't trust about mechanic shops! read more

This is the best place to shop for bikes and related gear in NWI. Their service man Dan was the best when it came to customer service. He told you everything up front and was very punctual. The guy they replaced him with... not so much. Eric the new one is very ignorant and lacks any customer service skills. He has turned me off of Lake Cycle for my motorcycle repair/service. Took over a week to adjust chain and valves, after he told me I could pick it up two days later. Very disappointing. Same visit he told me I needed a new chain, and that he would order it for me and call me when it came in. A week later I call and ask about it, but he never followed through. I miss Dan tremendously. I will not be getting my bike serviced there until Eric is gone or has learned how to treat customers. read more
